The people were wonderful and the location was pretty, but it was the greasiest breakfast my husband and I have had at a diner.

Really upbeat atmosphere and service, great food and drinks, definitely recommend! My table of 5 ordered kids pancake that came shaped like Mickey Mouse, chicken friend steak, Old Mans Bfast, Classic Bacon Cheeseburger, a Reuben sandwich and Bloody Marys. Our experience here was over the top! Me and my wife came here on our honeymoon and absolutely loved it! The food was super delicious and locally sourced I have never tasted eggs with such flavor! They treat you like family here and welcome you back with a smile. Joe and Britta were so great to us and made us laugh every time we came in. This is a classic American diner with the most delicious food. You have to try their pancakes because they don't even need syrup they are so crunchy and fluffy. Especially out west, you don't see nearly enough diners. The world needs more restaurants that serve a wide variety of foods quickly at good prices. BPD definitely fills the bill. I came in with my sister mid-week during the middle of a couple of days spent celebrating family milestones. We grew up in this neighborhood and always enjoy coming back. It was quieter, coming in for a late breakfast on a weekday. Still, multiple tables full of moms with kids, and one full of retirees talking about how old their cars were and how many miles they'd gotten out of 'em. A few people seemed to know each other. Just what I want to see in my old community. I am sure it regularly gets way more packed than this. We had a couple omelettes and a couple coffees. The usual fare at a place like this. We had the sweetest, friendliest waitress, too. She definitely helped reinforce the impression of a welcoming diner. She had the food out pretty quickly, and the water and coffee never got low. Tab came to under $30, which is awfully nice for what we got. There's a decent amount of seating here, mostly in booths with a little peek of view at Commencement Bay. It's a great setting, and I'd eat here more regularly if I didn't live over an hour away now. read more

Stopped in on a Monday afternoon after an exhausting day looking at houses and needing some real food. No one but us in the place and we were worried they were almost closed but were assured not and that we could get breakfast or lunch. We opted for lunch but watching when others came in later and had breakfast, I think we should have gone with that. Hubs had a pulled pork sandwich that came with the requisite slaw on the bun with the pork and it was a knife and fork kind of sandwich.. He got fries which looked yummy but turned out to be a little limp and not all that great. I had a BLT which is my favorite sandwich and it was ok, nothing special. However, my onion rings were yummy, nice and crisp and not a huge amount of batter masking the onion. I asked for tarter sauce for them and it was so good. Lots of dill and a bit different from the regular tarter sauce you get in a jar. Server was very nice although we didn't see her again after our meals were delivered until it was time for the check. The waitress working the bar area should have took today off instead of bringing negative energy to me and my lady all we were trying to do was have a bite to eat and a drink and soon as we step thru the door she gives us a dirty glance and tells us she has to make drinks before seating us. We're in the bar area, just point to where you want us to sit damn..! We left, she just looked and acted like she would have made us the worst drinks ever.. My suggestion. Hire people who don't make your customers feel like they're being racist here.. read more

The diner was closed but the bar was open. I was a little apprehensive because there appeared to only be one person waiting on about 20 people at several tables. The bar tender/server Tiffany was amazing! She promptly greeted us and got our drink order. We thought we might be waiting for a while but she came right back and took our orders. I watched her efficiently move about the bar, checking on people, delivering drinks and food. The food was good, but Tiffany's service really knocked it out of the park for us. read more

There's such potential here. Good atmosphere and a good location in a relatively affluent neighborhood, but they'd have to try and they don't seem willing to do so. So sad. On any given day the fare is the American diner average. It could be inspired. It could be extra special. It could be unique, but all that would require more effort than anyone seems willing to put forth here. If that weren't disappointing enough on its own, the staff is rude. It was 7:55 AM on a Sunday and we stopped in because we're always hopeful. We love to support local businesses and we hope they'll step up their game and reward our patronage with what we know their potential to be. We walked in but the waitperson stopped us to say they're closed and open in 5 minutes. There's a waiting area just inside the door. It was a cold and rainy morning, so we asked if we could wait inside. The cook - without even bothering to face us and direct this statement to us - facing her stove all but growled "we open in 5 minutes". It was shockingly rude. Still, we were ready for breakfast and noticing a sign at the register that today was "Cash Only", asked where the closest ATM was. Neither replied. Dead air. Just waiting for us to leave. Maybe they'd tell us in 5 minutes?? But seriously enough is enough. We left to find breakfast elsewhere. I doubt we will return. Truly, it kind of breaks my heart. There's SUCH potential here, but the effort is entirely absent. read more

If they're busy, just go somewhere else. We were told there was a 35 minute wait. We were okay with that. But we didn't receive our food for over an hour and a half. Another table came in after us and left before us, despite order the same amount of food. We were forgotten. we asked about our waitress, and we're told that the bar in the back was busy and they were staggering orders. Suddenly someone arrived to actually take our drink orders. We ended up spending more than 2 and a half hours. Thankfully our 3 year old is a super chill kid. Food was delicious, but definitely not worth the wait. By the time we wanted to leave we'd already put in some of our orders and didn't want to ditch on a bill when we had no cash to put down. read more

Got a Togo order. It was sitting on the counter while. Waitress figured getting cash for a completed togo order was worth less than taking orders and pouring coffee for 15 minutes. Insulting after she rings up the white lady in front of me but makes me, the very next dude in line, wait another 10-15 minutes for food that was sitting in a bag on the counter from the moment I walked in. Tried to step up the process to just putting money down but the waitress refused to accept it. Insisted I had to wait. Got home to cold food and complaints from the hungry family why it took 30 min to get food from a restaurant not 5 minutes away when we called ahead. Food tastes like shit. Not planning on going back. Don't recommend you do either. read more

I'll start by saying the food was and always is great here. I grew up in Browns Point and have been coming here for 20 years. Came in on a Sunday morning and was maybe 75% full. We asked to sit in the bar, which has a completely different atmosphere from the main restaurant, has better views, and has TVs (I wanted to watch the Mariner's game). The host told our waitress we wanted to sit in the bar and she said "it's full" to the host, without even looking at us. Then walked away towards the table she wanted to seat us at. I followed and asked how long to wait for the bar. She seemed annoyed by this question and said "I don't know, 30 minutes?" She put our menus down and walked away. We then walk into the bar and there were three open tables. We asked another server and he said yeah the bar is fine. So we went and sat down. We had a 5 top but easily squeezed into a four person table without problem. The bar waiter came and explained that she was pushy because they tried to not overwhelm one part of the restaurant, which I understand, but if a customer explicitly asks to sit in one section, especially when it's essentially a different restaurant from the other section, you should allow that. And we're okay waiting a bit longer if we sit in the bar, but that option was never presented Up until that point, I wasn't going to write a review, but then the original waitress walks into the bar and tells us we were completely out of line because there was a 10 top in the bar and that we need to listen to her whenever she tells us something. We told her her boss said it was okay, and she said that it doesn't matter if her boss said so, we need to listen to her. Then she stormed off. I've never experienced a ruder server in my life. I've worked in restaurants, my family has worked in restaurants and none of us have seen such rude behavior go without consequence. There was a half-hearted apology from our server, who I don't want to take this out on, he was really nice afterwards, but this original server was able to continue on with nobody really saying it was out of line. I love this restaurant, but if servers are able to be openly rude to customers and even follow them to their new table and continue to explain how wrong we were, I have no desire to come back. Also side note: the bar was down to only three tables within 10 minutes of us sitting down read more

I like it here because it's close but the service is so slow. They basically have one kitchen to serve both the diner and sand bar and it takes forever to get your food. We literally sat there for over 45 mins to get our food (an appetizer and a burger) and it still came out cold. Sorry I want to support this business but they need to make some changes. Such great food. I had the corned beef hash... eggs done perfectly and the corned beef was fresh (not from a can) and excellent. Burgers were awesome. Pancakes were almost an inch thick. Server was delightful and took care of the entire place by herself. Impressive. read more

Not the best but not the worst diner I've been to. There is also a large bar area behind the diner, most of the area is kid friendly. They have some local beers on tap from around the area. For dinner I had the French dip. I opted for the side salad, some of the salad was wilted and brown, not very appetizing. The French dip was alright. The meat was good but the actual bread was way too thick. This made the sandwich seem like all bread. A thinner bread would have helped the sandwich out greatly. Pretty awesome breakfast place! Great for kids and good size portions! Very well priced roughly $6 per kid and that includes a drink . The Greek scramble was bomb! The server was awesome and very accommodating ! She got our orders in quick and we were in and out in about 30 minutes which is perfect for 3 kids and just a mom (dad was a little jealous that he missed out ). Lack of care + inattention to details = 2 star meal at Brown's Point Diner. I'm not talking about the service, which was good; I'm definitely talking about the food. I lovelovelove diner food, so it's not the style of food at issue. The kitchen failure is partially a result of inertia. We were the only customers eating at the time of our visit. Sometimes a stagnant kitchen leads to poor execution. Starting with this plate, the 2 Eggs Your Way: http://s3-media1.ak.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/AM2JwE3L_diuf2nPW4_4uA/l.jpg. There are problems. Notice the toast in the left corner, if you can see it. Barely toasted (no browning, limp) and unmelted butter on one half of the toast, then smacked next to an unbuttered piece. In theory this should lead to 2 hot slices of toast with butter...uh, not if they're not toasted! The hash browns are not "browned" - if you can see the picture, it is blackened. This means one of two things: an unseasoned grill, or a lack of butter or oil. The biscuit in the foreground was under-cooked as well, with a slightly playdo texture and smell to it. A sirloin steak - unpictured - smelled on the edge of freshness, which is to say it had a slight odor. It came to the table barely warm. $52 for 4 people isn't bad, if your food is good - ours was about a C. The location is nice and the space is a "new diner" in a strip mall - unremarkable but neat and clean. Bottom Line: I wouldn't recommend it. read more

A suprisingly good diner in Tacoma! This place is nice and clean but has some fun, charming quirkiness from the staff. Steve got a hamburger which was very good and I got a very fine sized taco salad which wasn't too big or too little! It was just right! They have a full bar here as well and I got a nice, cold IPA from off the tap. Steve got a Strawberry Margarita which had a good fruity taste to it but I thought it was a little on the weak side but Steve had no complaints. If there was any "issue " it was that but it wasn't that important really since Steve did not see that as a complaint. We topped it all off with a slice of apple pie to share which was great! read more

When my brother and sister-in-law said at 8 AM let's go get some Bloody Mary's and breakfast... I was thinking where are we going to go? We were in Tacoma suburbia. I've never had a Bloody Mary in the morning before. I was on vacation so why not? We got lucky and there were no lines. The servers were very nice and the portions were huge here. It's a nice cozy diner. They have outdoor seating as well and a backroom for parties I'm guessing too. There's a nice view since it overlooks the lake. Now about my Bloody Mary. Let me say it was one of the best I ever had. It had a pickled green bean, asparagus spear, cherry tomato, pearl onion, green olive and celery to go with it. You could hardly taste the alcohol in it but it's definitely in there. I could feel it a bit after. Btw why does dad get an omelet and mom gets a mess??? Well it was certainly a delicious mess! Mom's mess came with sausage, bacon, mushrooms, onions, green and red peppers, hash browns and cheddar cheese all scrambled together with your choice of toast. All for $10.95. The portion was huge and was scrambled well. I can never decide what I want so so this mess was perfect. And I personally like my omelet ingredients mixed in with the egg rather than just in between the egg folded over. I was stuffed but my sister in law said I have to try the cinnamon roll. Luckily we just got one cinnamon roll to share between four adults and one child. It wasn't too sweet. The frosting was good, it was a cream cheese frosting so not too heavy. Very nice ambience that's the reason for the three stars along with a courteous customer service. Otherwise overpriced and so so bland. I ordered a croissant toasted with egg white and Swiss cheese but I didn't know I'd also have to specify hey could you put some salt and pepper on those eggs- silly me. I also asked for the salsa to be inside of it but of course it was on the side but it wasn't cut in half so even though they knew I was going on a road trip, I couldn't really eat it or dip it in the salsa. Five minutes down the road, I had deconstructed the sandwich and was eating pieces apart. The croissant had completely lost its crispiness because the eggs were so wet with condensation inside of this nonbiodegradable plastic container that it made the entire experience disappointing. I spent 12 and change and tipped of course and it'll be the only thing I have time to eat all day until I get home tonight. Not my best first impression sadly. read more

This is one of those hidden gems. They cooked all of our food to perfection. It ALL came out fresh and HOT. The hamburger meat was really good compared to a lot of other places. We are starting to really enjoy this place! I can see why our neighborhood loves it so much. However, the food and service seem to depend on who's working that day. Sometimes it takes forever, and sometimes it's super fast. Today my favorite waitress was working. Super happy and helpful, food came out hot and fast. She checked on us enough but not so much that we were bothered. This is also a great place to take your little ones for a meal. They are always very patient and there's a nice neighborhood to walk around with your bouncy toddler while you're waiting for your food to arrive. read more

Cons: Long wait time, a disorganized kitchen [with cooks running around with your yet-to-be-cooked food in their hands - not a plate, or a glove, but bare hand! - dropping some of it on the ground]; a "basket" of fish & chips that was both burnt to crisp and way smaller than you are used to having it served; and a $10 Mediterranean wrap that is so tasteless it is hard to call it either Mediterranean or a wrap. And, no sir [this is for the Head Cook], scolding a waitress in the hearing of her customers neither makes you big nor powerful. It only makes you a douche. And very unprofessional. read more

Chicken piccata made with artichoke hearts and capers on top of fettuccine sounds pretty good right? It would have been, if my chicken were cooked correctly. Not only were a couple of pieces under done, but the breading was not browned. They must brown the flavorless breaded chicken on the flattop grill, because it had minimum markings of being cooked. Very unappetizing! The staff agreed that my chicken was questionable. The waitress asked if there was anything else I would like to order or have the piccata remade. I thought I would try the crab cakes. As I waited for the crab cake entree, she offered a side salad. The salad was a nod to those that despise iceberg. It even had baby spinach and ridichio chillin' in there like "Yo where's the croutons?" So, my crab cakes were a huge disappointment! They were flavorless, mushy and filled with shredded carrot. I have never left 2 whole crab cakes on my plate before. My 2 sides were broccoli and baked potato, accompanying a dinner roll. I finished the potato, since it was the one thing I could improve the flavor. I'm sure this diner is spot on at breakfast and maybe lunch.
