The pizza is really great and unique here. I say this meaning that instead of slicing them in triangles like your average pizzeria, they cut the slices into rectangles. It's a small difference, not effecting the taste at all, but it's something aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. The inside of the restaurant is extremely nice and has a warm, friendly environment. They serve alcohol, foods other than pizza, and has plenty of space for large groups of people wanting to eat dinner and converse. I've never eaten anything else other than the pizza. It is in a good location on the landing near Nine Irish. They smother the pizza with tons of cheese, so for people who don't like overly cheesy pizza, I would find another business to purchase pizza from. read more

Bruno's used to be the bomb. These days, it is hit or miss on quality. They have increased prices and the bruno dough has definitely been taken down a notch in quality. The problem with their pizza is that it is cut in these long strips. Not party cut, and not wedge cut. Long strips which make it hard to pick up and eat with your hands. The dough they have makes it impossible to cut with just a fork and a butter knife, too. You need a serrated steak knife edge to cut through that dough. If you order a beer there, it's one of the smallest beers I've seen. You will still pay as much as anywhere else for a beer there, though. It's not low cost pizza either. I just don't feel the value there anymore like I used to. OK to have higher prices if the quality doesn't slip. Bruno's has got to do something with the men's room, too. That place smells like an outhouse even when no one is using it. I don't know what is wrong with that men's room. It has smelled like that for many years. read more

We came here after a football game. Thankfully they took and then honored our reservation for 12. We had a fabulous time. Our server was friendly and even though they were packed with hungry football fans the owner stopped making pizzas long enough to say hi and check in on his patrons. I have been going to Bruno's for as long as I can remember. I'm pretty sure they have some of the best pizza ever. The baked lasagna is also pretty amazing, but a bit greasy from all the cheese. I appreciate that they have a quality house salad that is more than just lettuce and a cucumber slice. Visiting my daughter at Purdue she recommended and always wanted to eat at Bruno's pizza. The food did not disappoint and was some of the best pizza this far from NY. I appreciate the decor here, it's a real experience for a Boilermaker nut I suppose. My mom loves coming here, so that's cool. The pizza was okay, decent flavor by a little bit overly gooey cheesy for my tastes. Definitely decent quality. Their house side salad was really well thought out and had lots of different ingredients, a very welcome change from the side bag-o-iceberg and shredded carrots many places serve. Service was efficient and friendly, which is great especially in a college town. Noise level wavered between acceptable and intolerable. Basically one loud table such as we're about 25 feet from us can really make it painful for the rest of the dining room. read more

Bruno's is a mainstay of Lafayette, and is still ran by the original owner as of this posting. The pizza and pasta are pretty good but Bruno likes his dough and cheese so it's all pretty greasy and awful for you healthwise. The "Bruno Dough" is basically...greasy dough, but since we're all wired to like stuff that tastes of animal fat it's awesome as long as you ignore what it is probably doing to your arteries. I haven't had everything on the menu but the word from friends/family/random strangers is that the lasagna is great. The pizza is pretty doughy with a lot of cheese and sauce, and is cut into strips rather than pie-slices like most places do. Good stuff. The service has always been good when I've been there, but I'm the type that's happy as long as I'm sure no one spit in my food. The restaurant is intentionally "old' looking since the guy running it had to move from his previous location due to a state construction project and he really loved how the old one looked (this restaurant used to be "Bruno's Swiss Inn"). read more

Last night was my first time at Bruno's. The Fried Dough was a very interesting experience for me, nice flavor and texture. Service was phenomenal and the hand tossed pizza was just perfect, the ingredients of our choice were: black olives, fresh basil and bacon. I highly recommend this place. I think they have the best pizza in the Lafayette area. Very good salad with lots of different items on it, such as egg, raisins, carrots, green peppers, beets, topped with pine nuts, but sometimes they leave off one or two of these and then I'm not as happy. We like to order a fourth of the pizza as peanut butter, about like having dessert. If you don't go there for pizza, I think there are other restaurants in the area that are better. Bruno's Pizza and Big O's Sports Room, or as the locals affectionately refer to it as, Bruno's, is a West Lafayette hotspot worthy of the affection from the locals. Located near the Purdue campus, the restaurant is a good fit for both college students and local families to merge. On my visit I saw firsthand the blend of these two classes. The restaurant was loud and bustling when my roommate and I came to eat. The service is fairly prompt and friendly. The gentleman serving us was ready to talk and get us comfortable with the menu.It was a while before we saw him again after we were asked about beverages, but understandable given the crowded nature of the restaurant. However, one thing that I did find a bit inexcusable about the service was how long it took for the food to arrive. We were still assured it was coming and we were not forgotten. The service was uphill once again at that point: He checked up on us in the typical fashion and we received our bill in a timely manner. The bill for two meals at Bruno's is not alarming. However, it is not particularly friendly if you are a college student living on a tight budget. Though Bruno's is not particularly excessively pricey, it would be wise to treat yourself to Bruno's for worthy occasions. Other than whatever specials Bruno's may run, the price for any adult meal is greater than ten dollars, with the exception of sandwiches. Kids can eat at a cheaper price though, with meals ranging from four dollars to seven dollars. I ordered from the sandwich section of the menu, simply because I need to monitor my spending. I do invite anyone to explore the menu at Bruno's if given the chance. The selection gives an upscale impression that makes the prices seem less a problem. If you look at the menu, you will see categories for veal, chicken, pasta, salad, and seafood. Of course, there is also the pizza portion of the menu covered with specialty options and options for making your own pizza. There is a fair wine selection, which also helps give that classy feel to this family restaurant. I stuck to the sandwich section of the menu and ordered a scrumptious $7.50 Submarine, a "Bruno's classic" made of ham, salami, pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, and pizza sauce. The sandwich was delivered to me warm (and evidently not sitting under the heat lamp while we waited, thank goodness) with my side of chips. I would have preferred fries, but a substitution would cost another $2.50, but I felt fine having chips instead. Aside from just being hot, the sandwich was delicious. It may only be a personal thing, but I love when the cheese is visibly melting over your dish. Bruno's had me on that, because the cheese made this sandwich much more tantalizing than I would have imagined a meat and cheese sandwich to be. It also serves as a fair portion for what you pay for it. I only ate half my sandwich and all my chips before giving in and requesting a box from our waiter. The bill came and it came time to leave Bruno's my roommate and I contributed to a fairly worthy tip and the waiter happily acknowledged us as we left the restaurant, asking us to come again. Bruno's has very mediocre pizza, bad Swiss-German food, and Bruno's dough (which is apparently an acquired taste: if you live in Indiana long enough, I guess you grow to think fried dough is good). The service is generally awful, and the atmosphere is some weird combo of Bennigan's and fake-chalet. Avoid at all costs, especially with Nine Irish and Puccini's next door. Hell, you'd be better off going to Scotty's or BWs. There are better places for pizza (but still no great pizza) in the Lafayette area, like Puccini's, Hotbox, Arni's, and, well, honestly, Dominos and Mad Mushroom. read more

The pizza is decent but not great. The pasta is pretty good but way overpriced. The Brunos Dough is completely gross and disgusting although I have a friend who thinks it is the greatest thing ever. One plus for Bruno's: it is a family-run restaurant which is my preference for dining over a franchise any day. Bruno's is a local favorite but most must go for the memories and not for the food. I enjoy the decor (lots of local sports history) and everyone is in a good mood when they are eating at Bruno's so it is fun. We went there on a very unbusy night. Service was typical for college kids. We were given a very awkward table in the center of a large empty room and asked to change seats. We were then moved directly behind a table with 5 screaming toddlers/babies. Ordered cheese garlic bread for an appetizer. It tasted like frozen microwaved garlic Texas toast with some mozzarella on it. Then we each ordered our own pizza and the mushroom ravioli. Pizzas were bland... Just a step above frozen baked at home... Though we did like the crust. Pizza sauce tasted like flat ketchup, cheese was tasteless and clumpy (looked like melted plastic) toppings were not evenly spread out, so one bite was a mouthful of sausage, next bite was cheese only. The mushroom ravioli was swimming in a creamy soup of again, very bland sauce and far too many mushrooms. It was not made well at all and after three bites we chose not to finish it. Our goal bill for four sodas, three pieces of cheese garlic bread, three personal sized pizzas, and inedible mushroom ravioli came to $90.00. The next morning we all looked forward to cold pizza only to discover that what was bad when it was hot became god awful cold. I would not recommend this. Go to Sylvia's brick oven pizza off Columbia street instead. read more

This place is known for exceptional pizza, but for a Chicago native, I'd say it's good compared to other pizza chains --- but nothing like back home! I have only dined in once before today, but today the service was mediocre. I ordered a house salad and after about 10-15 mins I noticed the girls at the table sitting next to me got their house salads. Another five minutes and the pizza came. The place was busy and our server checked on us regularly, but by then l was too upset and full to even ask for the salad. Also, I felt as if we were rushed out because he asked us about packing up the pizza and we really weren't done eating! Anyways, my salad never came and we even got charged for it! Before we even told him about the mistake, he said, "you didn't get a salad, I apologize but this check is wrong," and came back promptly with a new receipt. He never asked me if I wanted it to go. Tonight showed how weird the atmosphere can be for me so I will not be dining in ever again! If you like "traditional Purdue/sports themed" eateries this is the place for you. read more

Bruno's has a ton of character. It is a Purdue institution and we love the Purdue memorabilia as well as the Boiler Up feeling of the place. There is a quiet, kitschy but romantic bar area where you can also eat dinner if you want. The pizza is old fashioned and really good. Love their old fashioned pasta dishes, too. Restaurants with character and a long history in any area are hard to find, so this gets a 5 from us. We visit every time we go to West Lafayette. read more

Have been here over the years and never had an issue until one day when I went with my husband; he speaks with a heavy Latin accent. He ordered ONE beer and when he requested another the waitress refused to serve him a second and stated that her manager told her he was too inebriated...when we questioned the manager he claimed to have no idea what she was talking about but stated that if she thought he was too drunk that was good enough for him. (not quoted but you get the picture). While we were talking with him, the staff that was working in the kitchen were glaring at us. I have NEVER known people to be blatantly prejudice until this day. Needless to say we will NOT return. I just could not get over how rude they all seemed to be and could careless that we were offended by how they treated us. read more
