I called in and ordered a small pepperoni, sausage, mushroom pizza ($22). They said 10 min so I headed in. It was not ready in 10 mins, more like 16. oh well.. The pizza was ok, nothing outstanding. The crust was good, not some premade disc. It had a good chewy texture. The cheese and sauce were good, but the pepperoniwas not crispy around the edges. They didn't cook it hot enough. The mushroom were large chucks instead of thin slices so they dry out instead of getting incorporated into the cheese. Lastly the sausage was ok, nothing special. My husband used to eat there in 90's. Finally we went together to eat, following him the best Italian food. Since 1975, same menu, the food is not salty, homemade marinara, good service, good price! Very quaint, small, family style restaurant. The waitress and staff are very friendly and attentive. I ordered the chicken Alfredo, which is great, my daughter was disappointed with her ravioli as there were only 8 on the plate which was not enough to fill her up (average sized teenage girl.) We came here on New Year's Eve. We expected to have to wait a while since there were a ton of people in Santa Monica and probably a lot of people going here. Surprisingly, we only needed to wait a couple minutes before sitting down. They give a side of bread and butter but the bread was not super warm and so the butter didn't melt when spread on the bread. Looking at the menu, there were so many different things we wanted to try. We couldn't take any to-go boxes because we were staying out all night so we settled for a couple plates: LASAGNA ($14): Now I love me some saucy, especially on lasagna. I also prefer a cheesy lasagna and this wasn't as cheesy as I was hoping for. I know they have parmesan cheese that you can sprinkle on the top but that just didn't add enough cheesiness for my liking. It was still delicious though, and you can tell the sauce is made in-house, but I think I was hoping for less sauce and more cheese. 4/5 SPAGHETTI/RIGATONI WITH MEAT SAUCE ($12.50): We asked the waitress if we could get half spaghetti with meat sauce and half rigatoni with meat sauce. The girlfriend preferred rigatoni over spaghetti but the star was the meat sauce. I really didn't think it was anything special other than the in-house meat sauce. 3.5/5 There is parking in the back of the restaurant which is nice given that Santa Monica can get pretty bad parking-wise. They also serve beer and wine if that appeals to you. They seem to have a lot of other things to try like the chicken parm, ravioli, and fettuccine alfredo, but I'm not sure if I would make the trip to SM to come back here again. read more

Came here for a late lunch during the week. The entire group was starving, so we quickly devoured the complimentary bread (served warm!) and butter. I ordered the gnocchi with pesto sauce. For the price and quantity, this was a pretty good dish. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the cannoli and spumoni. They both looked delicious, but I was disappointed by the quality and taste considering they cost $5 each. Service was quick enough (the restaurant wasn't crowded at all since we went at an odd hour). The lady who served us was very friendly. Parking can be a pain around here. We finally found a metered spot after circling around for a bit. It looked like there might've been parking available behind the restaurant, but I didn't check to see if the parking was for this restaurant or just for other shops on this block. If I could give half stars, I'd give this place about a two and a half. This is a decent spot to go to if you want cheap Italian food with a homey feel. But I suggest passing on the desserts and going somewhere else nearby after lunch or dinner. read more

I almost never give bad reviews and wasn't expecting to give one here. But I just had the blandest, most flavor free meatball sandwich at Brunos, and I'm truly beyond disappointed. If I didn't know better I'd say I have Covid and my mouth isn't working right. But it is, for everything else, just not this sandwich. Maybe everything else is great?? It can't be any worse. This place is disgusting! Watch the kitchen, watch how much (or little) they wash there hands!!!! They're putting raw meat on the pizza by hand, and then making a salad by hand, no gloves. There is one small hand washing siink, mostly out of view of the dining room, but you can see it when you walk in. I saw the owner milling about and talking to customers who appeared to be regulars. We were seated right away and our server was nice. I got an iced tea, which was good, and my husband ordered a soda. Only canned sodas here, kind of surprising they don't have a fountain. After my boyfriends raving reviews about Bruno's, I had to give it a try to see what all the fuss was about! Craving some pizza, we stopped by Bruno's before our adventure on the Santa Monica Pier, which was perfect because it's only a 5 minute walk away! Immediately walking in, I felt right at home because of the warm welcome of the staff and homey decoration. You know a place is serious about their pizza when they bring out pizza stands for them! My boyfriend and I both ordered our own 12" pizzas. They were pretty quick to make, we only waited about 20 minutes after ordering and we were so impressed by the fresh pizzas than were served to us! We both loved the authentic pizza crust, sauce, and how generous the chef was with the cheese - YUM! Despite how amazing the pizzas tasted, we both could only finish about half. We stopped by this restaurant and I found a strand of HAIR in my gnocchi pasta (not my own since I wore a pulled back ponytail the entire sitting). Also when I told the waitress she blamed me for not finding the hair earlier and telling her about it earlier! SO GROSS! We were seated outside and it was dark so I could not see the hair until I tasted it. Bruno is kind, charming, intelligent, informative and his wife is the chef extraordinaire. My Italian American husband ordered bolognese, I ordered the special tricolored spaghetti with Lamb; our so. I trust him so i was quite optimistic when I stopped to look at their menu. I didn't want anything heavy (pasta) and in reality, it was Gavin that was hungry so I ordered a small sausage pizza. For the price, taste, quality, and speed - it can't be beat. Super friendly and family-oriented restaurant/staff. The ladies made us feel very welcomed and comfortable. The lady was surprised a small pizza was all I ordered and to be frank, I was surprised myself but I couldn't eat unhealthy for days in a row. I did not like how I was feeling. Anyway. About 10 minutes later, the pizza arrived. A small has 4 slices. It is the perfect size to share w/ 2 people (2 slices each). The crust was thin but held its form.
