Some like Handels Baskin Robbin's, Afters, Cold Stone, Creamistry, Salt and Straw, House of Chimney Cakes are all good places but I've never had to line up at Brusters on a hot summers day-- like at Handels ... I like that I can try samples at BR and SS... unfortunately not at Brusters but I already have my favorite flavors. Afters is pricy for a small scoop, Sorry Not Sorry flavors all taste the same, never liked Michoacana, they too all taste the same, SS flavors are a novelty so I can't eat one scoop of the same weird flavor. By far, Bruster's ice cream beats all other ice cream. They have a wide variety of flavors and types, even dairy free, sorbets and sugar-free items. Oh, how I love ice cream. I stop quite often at Bruster's Real Ice Cream. The shop is located at a corner of the street next to the school. The shop is pretty small and there are some seats outside if you want to enjoy your ice cream there. I usually came late at night and the line is long some time. The staff was very friendly and the service was great. I got coffee oreo and strawberry cheesecake. The ice cream was smooth, creamy and not too sweet. The rich flavor of coffee with chucks of oreo was a gooc combination. The strawberry cheesecake was light and delicious. The strawberries gave the ice cream a bit of brightness and that contracted well with the bit denser part of the cheesecake chunks. I really love how they balance so well. Went back to Bruster's the other day and got coffee and vanilla in a waffle cone. It was honestly some of the fluffiest ice cream I've had in a while -- super smooth and light. I called ahead of time and was luckily told that they had one left and at a better price than the other bug name ice cream shops. There's usually a line outside, especially on hot days. Since everything is made to order, the line tends to move slowly. I stopped by the Saturday before Mother's Day. There were only about 3 or 4 people ahead of me, but it still took around 10-15 minutes to get my order. My go-to milkshake is Chocolate Peanut Butter, but unfortunately, they didn't have one on the menu. The closest option was a Peanut Butter Crunch with a vanilla base, which just wasn't what I wanted. They recommended I do a chocolate shake with a peanut butter swirl instead, but the result was underwhelming. The shake was also so thick that you needed to eat it with a spoon. Really disappointing experience at Brewsters today. I walked up to order ice cream and there are multiple windows, but no signs saying where to order. Still nothing. I finally walked farther down to see if they were even open (the open sign was on, lights were on, and it was only around 4 PM) and noticed an employee standing at one of the far windows. I told her, "Oh, I didn't see anyone," and she just stared at me and said she had been calling me the whole time. There is absolutely no way I could hear her with the windows closed, plus there are posters/signs covering a lot of the windows making it hard to even see where employees are standing. The whole interaction felt rude and unfriendly instead of simply helping a confused customer. A simple "Sorry about that, you can order here" would have completely changed the experience.
