Add me to the growing pile of 5-star reviews! I ate Bua Loy 3 times in 5 days last week! YUM! This is a family run business, and they put mega pride and love into their work. The food is delicious and high quality. The energy is very clean and positive here. It is a shining star on this curve of 30! We've tried the following dishes: Pad Khing (Stir fried with fresh ginger, garlic, onions, scallions, carrots, bell peppers and wood ear mushrooms). Pho Ga (Chicken with noodles in a Vietnamese seasoned broth, onions, scallions, cilantro, bean sprouts, & jalapeños.) Pho Tai (Beef steak slices with noodles in a Vietnamese seasoned broth, onions, scallions, cilantro, bean sprout, & jalapeños.) Green Curry (Green Thai curry in coconut milk with green beans, carrots, and Thai basil.) Late Night Noodle (Stir fried flat noodle with baby bok choy, carrot, and eggs in a shallot chili sauce.) Larb Gai Salad (Laap is the national dish of Laos. Minced chicken salad with scallion, lime juice, chili, and fish sauce.) No complaints about anything, although the Late Night Noodle and Green Curry were favorites. I think I am going to be stuck on that Late Night Noodle for a while (I've already repeated this order), which is kind of disappointing because there is a lot on the menu that I want to try. I just can't bring myself to get over those noodles. SOOOO good! I could go into each and every dish, but there are too many to fit in this review. Let me just say that the meats are clean, fine quality, and expertly cooked for tenderness and flavor. Veggies are all cooked just enough to flavor things, but no more than necessary, to retain nutrition and good looks. Noodles are better than I have ever had in Asian cuisines, especially the big flat ones. The sauces and garnishes are all doing their respective jobs, with no messing around on taste. Ugh, the buzzword (I hate buzzwords), or rather buzz phrase, "on point" would apply here. Yes, every ingredient has a purpose, and a practical presence on your tongue, which is something I am really coming to appreciate the more I explore Asian cuisine. They were sold out of coconut pudding when we tried to get it, so that is my next request. But like I said, I can't wait to try most everything on the menu. The dining room is beautiful and tranquil. The windows let in a lot of nice light for lunchtime. They have a convenient pick-up window right at the entry for takeout, and beside it is an attractive display of traditional Lao cooking artifacts, perched on shelves with little didactic blurbs, set among orchids that look amazing (I promptly kill these poor things any time I've tried to possess one). The smiles on the hosts faces are very genuine and heartwarming. It is great food, and a great vibe! read more

Wow - SO SO good. I love Thai food a lot and there are a lot of mediocre places in the Philadelphia area. Bualoy is one of the best I've tried! They make a really solid Pad Thai - tons of noodles, great amount of peanut crunch, and perfectly crispy tofu. I honestly didn't think I liked tofu until I had it in their Pad Thai. I highly recommend their Panang Curry. It is one of my favorite dishes and really difficult to find a good one. Everyone should add this dish too their rotation! I wish there was a bit more sauce to pour over rice though. Can't wait to try more! read more

This unassuming spot is a must for their Thai food, but the Laotian dishes are really special. Try the sausage with the sticky rice - I don't know what is in their green sauce, but it is righteously spicy and addictive! The bualoy dumplings are homemade and rustic, but bathed in a curry sauce that delivers a tremendous depth of flavors. My wife always gravitates toward the pad thai and their version is consistently excellent. read more

Generally speaking, I'm not the biggest Thai food fan but after months of ordering in from my staple restaurants, I decided to shake it up a bit. I got the Chicken Penang here, as well as the Pad Thai - both medium spicy. Now you know the deal with how these dishes taste. The reason I liked Bualoy so much was because of how perfect they got their spices. There was just enough spice to stand out from the coconut bases here, and the freshness of their ingredients really was shining through. I could genuinely taste several of the ingredients amidst that Penang - which is quite a miracle when you consider how complex Thai cuisine is. Portion sizes were excellent as well, so I had plenty to enjoy the next day too! I got takeaway, and big props to the employee there who literally rushed out to hand off my food to me the moment I entered the parking lot. I hope small businesses like these survive the pandemic - it's genuinely made me give Thai food another chance and I haven't even gotten around to their Laotian cuisine yet! read more

I was really excited to try this place with all the positive reviews that it got, but I was honestly disappointed. My family and I LOVE Thai food, but what we got did not taste like it at all. We ordered the Drunken Noodle, Green Curry, Thai Basil (Pad ka Prow) and Thai Fried Rice. 1) Drunken Noodles - we asked for the spiciest level and what we got were white noodles with little to no kick. How are spicy noodles white in color?! Also, we got mainly vegetables and not as many noodles. I added shrimp on top of this and got only 3 pieces and paid an extra $3 for this. $1 for a shrimp? I could have bought a bag at a grocery store for $5 and gotten a better deal. 2) Green Curry - again, asked for the spiciest and it was disappointing. The curry was super thick with barely any green beans - mainly onions and carrots. Also, they used too much coconut milk that it overpowered the entire dish. 3) Thai Basil - the rice was missing with this dish so we used the small pint we got from the green curry and the fried rice to eat this. DISAPPOINTING. It was all soy sauce like broth and had no basil-ly fragrance. It honestly tasted like something you would get at a Chinese restaurant. 4) Thai fried rice - it was basically rice with soy sauce . Where were all the vegetables that was suppose to be it?! M.I.A. I will say that their COVID-19 curbside pick up and customer service was excellent so deserves a plus which is why I gave it a 2 star. But overall, the food was disappointing. read more

Giving a 1star rating would seem misleading when not having tried this restaurant. We made a reservation online for 6:00 this past Saturday for 4 adults and one child to celebrate a birthday. We showed the host a confirmation that was sent via email. We were told that they had no confirmation of the reservation. After a 15 minute investigation we were told that there was nothing they could do even though the restaurant was only half full. It was clearly their mistake and there was no attempt to correct the problem. Just a half hearted apology. Our Saturday dinner plans were ruined as we tried surrounding restaurants but reservations at the time(6:30) were impossible. read more

I really wanted to like this place because their servers are super nice and friendly. However, their food is terrible. Just to give you some context..., I have had Thai food from so many different places over the years. I have also lived in Asia. So, I know what Thai food should taste like... Unfortunately, what they serve here is not Thai food. I don't know what it is. Their green curry and Panang curry were watery and soupy - no flavor at all. Vegetables used looked like they came from Costco frozen veggie medley. And it's not cheap here. If I were to pay this kind of price, I would expect higher quality ingredients and better taste. We have dined multiple times and have enjoyed every time. Bold spicy flavor of Laotian food is such a treat. Top favorite is the Laotian sausage served with a sticky rice and this lemongrass & lime dipping sauce. Southeast Asian cuisine comes with their individual special dipping sauces. Crispy Duck is plain superb! Very crispy skin and tasty tamarind sauce. TIP, I use the leftover lemongrass-line dipping sauce with the duck and it's just heavenly. Seafood Hot Pot comes in an assortment of fish, mussels, squid and with a light coconut milk broth (not milky or creamy), enjoyable. The only non-Laotian dish, Drunken noodle is very good, slightly less smoky taste than a standard (Szechuan) dish. Mango Sticky Rice (normally we get this from a Thai place) is just an excellent dessert. Love the BYOB setup, every dish we had match our favorite Riesling (Dry). Staff of 2 brothers, mom-Chef and Brendi are super friendly and nice. We can't wait to be back, next week! read more

I waited 4 days to write this. I am that upset. The food was very good but I'm still burning about the service. Don't get me wrong. Every one was nice. But they didn't deliver 3 item we ordered . Yet we were charged for all three. How does that happen? It was a Friday but not busy. Service was slow anyway. They delivered the Pho after we were done and it was chicken instead of beef. We ordered Larb and green papaya salad. Neither came but we were charged for both. The food we received was good to very good but the business is run poorly. I had enough and didn't want to have them adjust the bill. My issue. There were six people and my friends were very disappointed. read more

The Smokey pepper seasoning that comes on the side is very spicy because of the chilie seeds - but we loved it! I absolutely love Bualoy! I've eaten in person and gotten take out a bunch of times now and always have a great experience. For apps I particularly love the angel wings and larb gai salad. Their drunken noodles are delicious but lately I've been obsessed with the seafood hotpot. Can't get enough! Oh and the fried banana dessert is to die for.. BYOB and if you ask they're happy to chill your extra beers/bottle of wine in their fridge while you eat. Nice interior and they have plastic partitions between some of the tables which was actually kind of nice bc it provided a little more privacy/noise control. Large portions and prices are reasonable. Take out orders are always well packaged, which I appreciate. They're located right next to the Devon bowling lanes on Lancaster Ave/Rt 30. There's a strip of parking in front of the restaurant and a bigger lot just beyond the entrance. Staff is always very friendly and professional. I highly recommend for date night, dinner out with friends, whatever! I always bring out of town friends and relatives here and I've never heard a complaint. I've been burned before with Thai food restaurants here in PA where they have a "nice ambiance" + positive reviews on Yelp but their food is not actually good! This place is NOT like that. Absolutely amazing! We went here because of our friends' suggestion and they did not disappoint! I was not familiar with Laotian food so I really wanted to try some items from the Laotian section. We got L1 (Laotian saussage) and L2 (tapioca noodle soup) and both are absolutely delicious. The saussage came with this spicy sauce and sticky rice. We also tried the late night noodle - also very good! We even got a second portion! For dessert, we tried mango sticky rice. The sweetness was just perfect. This brand new restaurant features not only Thai classics but also Laotian specialties. Since we admitted we had never tried Laotian food, our sweet and attentive server recommended we start with the Nam Khao Salad. ( rice like the crispy socarrat of a paella mixed with peanuts, lime, chili and herbs that you can wrap in lettuce) We also ordered Spring Rolls, (delicious and exactly what you would expect when ordering spring rolls) and Som Tum, another Laotian dish, thin strips of green papaya with tomatoes and more peanuts and lime. My husband liked this one, but I absolutely loved it; it is almost like a super light, chili vinaigrette dressed coleslaw. It was delicate and refreshing. Pad Thai is one of my favorites and Bua Loy did not disappoint. The chicken was moist, the tofu crispy and the bean sprouts were plentiful and not bogged down by sauce. It was, honestly, one of the best I've ever had. For as much as we enjoyed every dish, the star of our meal was the fresh Laotian sausages. Usually served with cucumber and lettuce, on our server's suggestion, we added a side of sticky rice to make it an entree. I'll be honest, I'm not usually a big fan of sausages, but I have never had a sausage like this before. The texture of the meat was perfect, no lumps of fat or gristle. The vegetables were large enough to give bursts of flavor without being obtrusive or distracting. The casing was browned perfectly giving that perfect bite. I normally find sausages heavy, but these managed to perfectly balance lemongrass, lime leaf and the veggies to leave them tasting light and fresh. All in all, the restaurant is clean and brand new. Our water glasses were never empty and every recommendation we received was fantastic and better than the last. We ate way too much, fell in love with Laotian food and were amazed by how reasonable the check was. I very highly recommended Bua Loy for something new and exciting or your favorite traditional Thai dishes prepared perfectly. read more

I was there pre-pandemic and it was pretty good Thai and Laotian food. But went there the other evening and ate in the dining room and, unfortunately, the food has gone downhill. I had chicken satay - the chicken was cooked well but the peanut sauce was -bland- not peanuty or spicy at all. Then the tom yum soup with tofu, again -bland- and only one piece of tofu. Then shrimp pad Thai, again -bland- and the shrimp were the tiniest I've ever been served and the dish was swimming in a watery sauce that I've never seen in this dish. It seems like every was "Americanized" and no more authentic Thai tastes or seasoning. The people are really nice and the service was great so I hope they get their act together soon. read more

This place not only serves Lao food made from scratch (in the Khao Piak, they make their own tapioca noodles) with fresh ingredients, but they serve delicious Thai and Vietnamese options as well. Best food I've had in a long time. My wife and I tried the pork satay, homemade sausage, one of the salads and the seafood hotpot. Everything came out somewhat fast and was super delicious. I could really tell the ladies cooking really enjoy what they do. We then tried the poached banana and the coconut pudding for dessert. Both were a pleasant treat and a good way to end the meal. Wow! Just had dinner here tonight because I was craving Thai food. I figured since it was a Thai/Laotian mix that the flavors would favor Northern Thai cuisine. And I was SOOOO happy that it did. Having lived near Chang Mai for 6 months, I missed some good sticky rice and som tom(papaya salad ) This place has the best I have tried in 20yrs! I visit a good amount of Thai places and am quite used to what flavor their traditional foods should have. Unfortunately the classic Tom Yum soup from this location was close to flavorless, and was made with chicken broth which was unpleasant. The Kra-pow was also missing flavor and a substantial amount of Thai basil. Instead they added cauliflower and carrots which screams Chinese take out. The Papaya salad was ok, not amazing. read more
