This place is so enjoyable! A lil hole in the wall famous for their delicious sandwiches and of course, the atmosphere. I've been here a couple of times and always enjoy the banter of people from up north like me - they're from Philly! Popped in last week to enjoy a quick bite after making a couple of runs in DC since the shutdown. Ordered the "The Porchetta" and a Sprite in a bottle because... why not? I came here after seeing it reviewed by Guy on the Food Network. I can say I was not disappointed but felt I wanted more. I ordered the Philly as that was what the served up for Guy. It was good and tasty. I believe I need try another just to get the best of all sandwiches I ordered only the half size and I'm so glad I did. There is no way I could have finished off the whole size. Also added a side of pasta salad which was a little too much on the oily side but none the less good. It may be full-on Philly, but this is a DC institution. Have had the roast pork, the brisket, and the bolognese parm, and all are fantastic. If you know the girl then you know I'm all about the sandwiches, so I've been told by plenty I need to check this place out! Been sleeping on them for years so I finally decided to come in for lunch and I left pleasantly pleased. I grabbed two half sandwiches; the bolognese parmesan and the roast pork, crushed one sandwich in house and the other at home. They were both pretty good. Really large and filling portion sizes. Of the two, the roast pork was my favorite. Very reminiscent of pork samiches I've had in Philly. I love how flavorful both sandwiches were. I like that they have so many condiments to dress your sandwich up in the condiment area. The restaurant itself is cool, pretty small and kinda hard to miss from the street. It wasn't the cleanest inside, the only reason I dined in for one samich is because it was cold outside and I didn't feel like walking home just yet. The interior is vintage, you can tell they've been around for a minute. The staff was really helpful and patient; they answered all my questions and were really knowledgeable with the menu. The one thing that bums me out about this place is the price. For $10, you get a 6inch?? (looks more like 4 inch) sandwich and that makes me sad, considering how good it is. I just can't wrap my head around $10 for half a sandwich. So if I get two 6 inch sandwiches, I'm out of $20+!! That said, I got the bolognese parm and eggplant parm and they were quite good. The bread was magical. It had that garlic bread like crusty and soft combo texture that is just perfect for a hot sandwich. The sauce in the bolognese parm was also on point. The actual meat- sausage and the meatballs were ok, but not phenomenal. I actually prefer the meatballs from Bozzelli's, so if someone can combine the meatballs from Bozzelli's with the sauce, bread, and other cheesy goodies from Bub and Pops, I'll have a winner! Next was the eggplant parm. I decided to wolf that down right after the bolognese because well, the sandwiches weren't that big and I am perfectly capable of pigging on those kinda portions. The ingredients were certainly good quality and fresh tasting, but somehow the taste didn't wow me enough to actually recommend it to the world or even try it again next time. I decided to come to Bub and Pop's with a friend who suggested this after a colleague of hers showed her! We decided to share a whole Philly cheesesteak, which is always a good choice. Now to be totally honest, I haven't had amazing Philly cheesesteak. I don't know if it's because California just doesn't do it well, or that I was too young to really critique my cheesesteak palette when I was in NY, but Bub and Pop's does it pretty well! The one thing I would really change about it is to make the meat less crumbly? It's hard to explain but I feel like the pieces of meat were so small - I like the thin strips of meat in my cheesesteak, not little itty bitty crumbly bits - I take my meats seriously! The pricing is okay... There's no denying that this place has GOOOOOOD food! Sometimes the line can get long, so I'd suggest not going during peak hours, but it's well worth it! It's a tight little place, but it feels homey. They specialize in sandwiches and you can either get a half or a full. From Parmesans to Hoagies, you can really go wrong. My first one was The Rich Boy, which is a fancy Shrimp Po Boy and it was super delicious. Between the staff and the good food, you can't go wrong with this place. They've got two perks that I particularly like: 1) They accept cards, but they get super excited when you pay cash, so they ring a bell! It lets everyone in the restaurant know you paid cash and it's just a good feeling. 2) Business card lotteries! I actually won this once, but if you place a business card in their basket, you can win free chips and dip, a dessert, etc. It's awesome! I would just say that some of the food can be a little salty, but try the sauces they provide! Adds great flavors. read more

Bub and Pop's is a great local sandwich shop. I was greeted by a very nice woman behind the counter that explained the menu as I looked it over. I decided to go with pop's beef brisket. It comes with an apple horse raddish sour cream, which I passed on as I am not a fan of sour cream. I asked if I could get some on the side to try, but they said they charged extra to put it on the side, which seems a little silly. The woman behind the counter suggested I add some arugula and tomato instead for no additional charge. The sandwich came out pretty quickly and was topped with a thinly sliced gouda. The brisket was nice and tender. It was very thinly sliced and covered in an au jus. The flavor was delicious and even the half portion was quite filling. The biggest drawback here is the price $12 for the half sandwich is pretty steep. It was pretty damn good though. read more

I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak and Potato Salad. The cheese steak was delicious. It was full of meat and I mean coming out of the bun. I like that the onion pieces are nice and thick and don't disappear in the sandwich. The bun did get a little wet, but it was wet with the delicious juices from the meat and melted cheese, who doesn't love that. I ordered delivery and my order was 100% accurate. I did not like the potato salad. It had shredded carrots like a cross between potato salad and coleslaw. It did look like it was made fresh as opposed to buying it already made, but it just wasn't my taste. I can't wait to try more of their sandwiches my next visit to DC! read more

This is a hole in the wall near where I work. Been here a few times, always thought the place had good sandwiches. I also generally get the matzah ball soup here. The Sandwich Gods truly blessed us with this local DC gem. I'm just mad I hadn't found it sooner! I tried the Chicken Parmesan after my boyfriend had raved to me for months that it's the best sandwich in DC (perhaps, even ever). It really was! The bread was perfectly toasted, the chicken was moist, and the cheese was overflowing. I ordered the half sandwich ($10) and it was more than enough to send me straight into a food coma. If amazing food isn't enough to convince you, Bub and Pops brings a special home-made feel to an area in DC thats full of fast casual spots. It's a small venue and you can see all of it's history (and Guy Fieri) hanging on it's walls. Only downside is that they're only open until 4PM and packed during the lunch rush. I'm not sure how I initially heard of Bub and Pop's. I think it may have been here on Yelp. Either way, I've been wanting it for at least 2 years. But because I hate the parking situation in this part of DC, I never went. Until last weekend. Let's just say it was worth the 48 minute ride through traffic. I found somewhere to park about a block and a half away. Not too bad for a 60° Saturday in DC in December. The inside was cozy, which is why they weren't allowing people to eat inside. There are tables out side that people can use if they wish. I ordered a half cheesesteak, a half chicken Parmesan, and a turkey hoagie. Yes, all of them. We couldn't decide. And guess what? They were all delicious! I had given up on finding a REAL CHEESESTEAK in DC/MD, but this is the real deal! The staff was really nice and patient with me, being that I had never been and asked a ton of questions. Only waited about 15 min or so for my sandwiches. I love a great sandwich and I am sad that even though I have lived in DC for a few years now, it took me watching Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives to have to find out about this DC gem. It is a bit of a hole in the wall establishment at the base of a brownstone right off of Farragut Square, but that just makes it that much more homey and special. The staff is outstanding and extremely friendly. One way to help them out, since they are a kind, family business, is to try and remember to bring cash. They do take card, but cash is definitely more helpful for their smaller operation. Now to the food, which is top notch. They have healthy lineup of large sandwiches that are all of the traditional ones you would expect to find at a classic deli. When I went I got Bub's Italian Hoagie which was a pretty large sandwich, with loads of the Italian meat classics and topped off with some hot peppers, to spice it up and bring it all together. They are a little bit off of the traditional touristy path, so you know you'll mainly be dealing with locals, but no matter if you're a local or a tourist, this is a place to make time for in DC. read more

Love this place, the vibe, and most importantly the food! I often come here for a Cheese Steak, if I am super hungry I'll get a full but more often than not a half is perfect. The meat is flavorful and perfectly cooked, and the mixed in cheese and onions makes the entire sandwich a delightful meal. The locals told me this place blew up right after it was on Diner's, Drive-ins, and Dives, so I was happy to try it. Got the Philly Special, and was forewarned that these are giant sandwiches if you get a half, and will fill you up for 2 days if you get a full. That's the best sandwich I've had for a very, very long time. Maybe brings me back to the Italian beefs in Chicago or a poor boy in New Orleans. And trust me, they did not skimp on the shrimp. I guess that's what you call balling on a budget. The coleslaw is on the saucier side and more creamy than vinegary. One of the best parts is the condiment selection near the water. I helped myself to the red onions, hoagie relish, and hot peppers. Although they are not cash only, they emphasize using cash because they can avoid fees. Each person who paid in cash got a nice thank you because every penny matters, especially to small businesses. I was making up for lost time because this place was so close to my school and it wasn't until the closing of my time that I finally decided to go there.
