How do I even put into words the luxury of sandwich selections that are available at Bub and Pop's? I'll start by saying, this sandwich joint stays true to the hoogie, but with modern twists, and worth every. single. bite. We ordered the Chicken Cheesesteak (no onions) and Bolognese Parmesan w/ some homemade iced tea. Both sandwiches were made to order, and came out piping hot with a cheese mountain that dripped in string melt goodness as you bit in or ripped the sandwich apart. I ordered the 'burning fire' pickles before I knew there were sweet and hot peppers available at the prep/juice station. We loaded all the toppings available on our sandwiches, which only took it up another level of food porn. As for the tea, yes it is unsweetened, but they have a bottle of maple syrup to sweeten at your hearts desire whether it's sweet and low or diabetic show levels. Your choice. I had no complaints, as the drink was just for me to wash down the fully loaded sandwich I was focused on. If you're in the area, stop by here for lunch. 3.5 stars Had some time to kill during my staycation in DC before checking into my hotel, so I decided to try out Bub and Pop's since I've had it bookmarked on Yelp for quite some time. It's a small little shop located in Dupont. The menu is pretty extensive and it took me some time to decide what to order since they all sounded so good! I made the decision to go with The Real Obama (half size for $8) - this sandwich consisted of Italian beef, braised brisket, provolone, & giardiniera. I also added some broccoli rabe for $1. I ordered to eat there and it came out pretty quick! I was honestly surprised by how huge the sandwich was! It came loaded with the toppings. But maybe a bit toooo much giardiniera as it seemed to overpower the sandwich. I would've liked to be able to have the meat be the star. Also, even though I ate it there...the bread became way too soggy midway through my meal. I ended up just grabbing a fork and eating the meat & veggies without the bread. It would've been great if the bread was toasted! Overall, the meat itself tasted great and did have flavor to it, but it was hidden under all those pickled veggies. I was walking around DuPont and my friends wanted to try some sandwiches so we decided to try here. I must constantly walk past this place but decided finally to try it. Frankly it was really incredible. Walking in for me felt like I was going home. When talking to the Mom I felt like I should be calling her Mrs. Walker, because she reminded me of the women who I went to synagogue with. Seriously she was awesome: sweet, attentive to customers, and running a very tight ship. Then the food was incredible. The portions are pretty significant. I had a fish hoagie which was delicious. There were two huge pieces and some great hot sauce. I found the best way to eat it was to have one piece first then have the rest of the sandwich. Really delicious. I'm not sure what it is, but there's something about this place. There are a lot of "family run" places that offer "friendly service," but Bub and Pop's has a certain warmth that left a smile on my face as I walked back to my office with a heavy sandwich in tow. But smiles don't fill your belly, right? Well their bolognese parmesan did an amazing job of that. First off, to those who are thinking "$8 for a half-sandwich??" I hear ya. But you have to rid yourself of the notion that this is a sandwich. You could have dumped my bolognese parmesan on a plate over some pasta, and you would have thought $8 was an absolute steal. There was so much juicy meat in that thing, it's a wonder how I inhaled that whole sandwich. The ragout was flavorful and hearty, and huge pieces of meat will keep you full for a LONG time. I'm not sure how they managed to make something as heavy as a bolognese parmesan taste fresh, but I imagine it has something to do with quality ingredients, and taking a lot of pride in your work. I was so excited that I wandered around the office handing paper menus I had picked up to people, telling them that I may have just had the tastiest sandwich I've had in my life. A half sandwich is more than enough for a filling lunch, but it's so good I wouldn't judge if you get a whole. When I ambled over there, my plan was to give it a try, and cross Bub and Pop's off my list. But I'm already pondering my next visit, which, shamelessly, will likely be tomorrow. read more

I have a mixed feeling about this place, but I want to go back here one more time to try out their signature sandwiches. I feel like this place is somewhere in between 3.5 and a 4, probably because I had their mediocre sandwich.I BTW, love that the owner lady is very very friendly and the service is fast. I ordered their beef brisket because it looked like it was that day's special sandwich, as it was written on the board outside next to the entrance. The line was long, and I only had 15 minutes to order food and run back to my car, so I just ordered what I like the best - Beef. Compared to other ginormously beautiful sandwiches that I saw in pictures, my beef brisket sandwich looks pretty sad, doesn't it? I should have put a fried egg on it, as one of the yelpers suggested, but unfortunately I didn't. The brisket in the sandwich was super tender and tasty, but the sandwich tasted like something was lacking because it didn't have any veggie on. I know, I shouldn't complain about it not having any veggie on since that's what the menu description said, but this sandwich definitely lacks that WOW BAM AWESOME Fireworks in the mouth factor. This sandwich was just like that bread pudding I had afterwards. It said it was peach bread pudding with cheese, but unfortunately there was a very tiny piece of peach inside the bread pudding. It was very delicious, moist and buttery, but if it has no peach taste, then it shouldn't be called peach bread pudding. Delicious, but yet lacking something. My co-workers and I came to Bub and Pop's to grab some lunch. I was pretty excited, as I've heard that they serve up some pretty tasty sammies :D Owned by Arlene Wagner and her husband, as well as the kitchen being run by their son (Jonathan Taub), the name of this sandwich shop derives from tributing Wagner's parents. Their menu offers their Kettle-Cooked Potato Chips with homemade dips (French Onion Dip made with caramelized onions, and the N'Djua, with whipped pork shoulder and smoked paprika), soups, wings, salads, pickles, and a variety of sandwiches (comes in half or whole sizes; Bub's Italian Hoagie, Bolognese Parmesan, Roast Turkey, Tuna, Bulgarian Feta, etc.). I tried their Pop's Beef Brisket, which was slow-braised beef brisket chunks, apple-horseradish cream, 5-year-aged Gouda cheese, and veal jus (on the side) - this was pretty tasty, as the brisket was tender and juicy, and even juicier with the dippage in the veal jus; I just wished there was more gouda cheese and more of the apple-horseradish (love my sauces!). My co-workers tried their Roast Turkey and the Cheese Steak, which both thought it was just okay. I was a little disappointed, as they had a sampler of their famous kettle-cooked potato chips with the 2 dips (the French Onion was thick, creamy, and tangy, while the N'Djua was more on the savory side, which reminded me more of a thick cheese dip); I had ordered 2 orders of the chips as well as the French Onion Dip, but those were not included in the order T___T They also have a daily Happy Hour from 5-7PM, offering $4 beer, French bread pizzas by the slice, Philly Style BBQ Chicken Wings (also known as 'South Philly Crab Legs'), Mozzarella Sticks with marinara sauce, wings, and their full menu. I've also heard about their Bub's Sunday Dinner, which is a prefixed, multi-course meal prepared by Chef Jon; it's held once a month, dates being determined by the chef, and only offers 12 seats for each tasting - I'd love to check that out someday! This review is intended for visitors to the DC area, as I was. Yes, you've read the reviews and you are excited to try Bub and Pop's. Maybe you are as anal as I am and even put it on your trip itinerary next to the Smithsonian or something. If this is you, I hope you'll read this before you cement this place in your plans. First of all, know that there is NO STREET PARKING near this business. We thought we had found a spot, only to see that the majority of the time, it is tow away on the street. You will have to park at one of the garages a block or so away. The one we chose had a sign that stated it was only $5 an hour after 5 p.m. but still charged us the $8 per hour and then wanted a tip because they are valet only. I know this is not a reflection on the restaurant itself, but it can certainly put a damper on the experience. Now to the establishment. The front of the shop is small and can be hard to find as it is nestled in between so many other businesses. When you do enter, I know you've read the reviews that say there is a very small seating area, but that is an easy thing to dismiss, so I'll elaborate. I counted 19 seats when we were there. Just think about that for a second. 19 (uncomfortable) seats. On top of this, they are crammed into an area of what I would guestimate to be about 500 sq feet. There was also a table or two outside but unless you want to sit in the cold and be harassed by people asking for "donations", I would avoid those. You've also read that the place is packed and that you have to wait in line, so imagine how difficult it is to get a seat. If you do chose to go here, (and I hope after reading this, you opt for some place else) I would recommend getting your order to go...not that you'll have an option most of the time. The reviews are also mixed on the quality of service; some say it's great and others say it's horrible. It's my feeling that's because there is a woman (Bub I assume) sitting at the register who has some manners (as anyone her age would; people used to be raised that way) who will tell you to grab a menu from the wall or what the specials are, this desire to get people through the line faster comes across as customer service. The truth is, her overall attitude is that of indifference. I will elaborate on that in a moment. The male heading up the kitchen (Bub and Pop's son, I assume) is a big, loud gentleman with no customer service skills at all, so perhaps in comparison people think the female's service is good? Here's the part you've been waiting for; the food. We were VERY disappointed that they were "out" of many of the items we had wanted to try. Being the perfectionist I am, I had already decided before we arrived on the Roast Turkey Sandwich (which was not an option in store, but they have on the online menu) as well as the bread pudding of the day, fried peanut butter and jelly (both of which she said they were "out of" when I ordered them) and the chips I had heard so much about. I was frustrated because the unique desserts had contributed to my desire to come to this place and I can understand running out of bread pudding by 5 on a Monday I guess, but how in the heck do you run out of PB&J?!? I expressed my disappointment and the employee said I should eat my sandwich first anyway (I chose the "Jewish Hoagie" in lieu of what I wanted that was not offered because it was the only thing that looked semi-appetizing) because the sandwiches are pretty big. She said she would use a cookie sitting on the counted to make me an ice cream sandwich if I still wanted dessert. Wow. Thanks. We finished ordering and were able to find a seat. It was uncomfortable and very close to a couple of lovely ladies cussing and carrying on in Spanish. I must admit the homemade chips are 5 stars hands down! Yummy and amazing. That is where the amazement ends. The two people I was with say their sandwiches were 4 stars easy and she was right, they are big portions. I only got a half sandwich and it would have been plenty had I been able to finish it; it tasted horrible. They should have called it a horseradish sandwich. I ended up chugging my Blue Moon just so we could get out of there. I was very disappointed. Although this was not our worst experience in DC, I really hope Yelpers will take my advice and try and find something unique that is close and convenient to try instead. They have many different food and sandwich options while also offering customers various beers to choose from. Being the indecisive person I am, I asked the worker behind the counter (who I am pretty sure is one of the owner's!) what I should get. At first, she was hesistant because she too was indecisive she informed me, but being the sweetie that she was she helped me out! She even told me "I don't do this often, but...." and she helped me pick out the Bolognese Parmesan sandwich that rocked my world, but please do have some napkins at the side! You are always greeted by one of the owners who actually take your order, chat you up, answer any questions you may have, give you free samples of soup and always serve with a smile! The Real Obama is a dream come true in the form of a sandwich. It's Chicago style Italian beef and incredibly fresh tasting. As someone from Chicago, I can say this tastes authentic, but the nostalgia factor has little to nothing to do with the recommendation. It's a legitimately delicious sandwich. The giardinara is perfect. The home made potato chips are a necessity, too. So amazing. It is a very small location with few tables, so take that for what it's worth. My first visit, I came on a Saturday around 6:30, and there was plenty of room for me to sit, but if you prefer to dine during busier hours, be prepared to find no room. Sadly, I've been a few other times close to closing, and sometimes they run out of things by the end of the day. I guess that's a necessary side effect of getting fresh ingredients, but oh well. Bonus points because the staff is extremely nice - the woman who took my order is the female proprietor mentioned in so many reviews, and I'm glad to say she has not let her restaurant's superior food get to her head. She was extremely down to earth, kind, and helpful, and when the whole sized sandwich proved a bit too much for me to handle, she gladly wrapped the rest. And, this is no small feat, but the tight wrap-job contained the beef and giardinara juices perfectly - I tossed the thing in a backpack and trekked home, and there wasn't a single drop that seeped through. It's a cold, wet first day of spring here in DC so naturally I am craving some good ole fashioned comfort food. Ideally I wanted pot roast, but you can't exactly get that around here unless you sit at a restaurant and spend $30 so I tried what I thought was the next best thing, a meatball sub. I'm usually satisfied with Subway's footlong meatball sub with provolone cheese for about $6, but decided to give Bub and Pop's a try since it was closer and the food looked awesome. It's a small place with lots of customers. Waited in line for about 10 minutes, but it's Friday just before 1 so I expected that - no complaints about that. I was planning to order the Bolognese parmesan sub with today's bread pudding (blueberry & cheese), but the bread puddings that were sitting next to the cashier were small and didn't look all that appetizing so I just ordered a full sandwich. Wait wasn't long (maybe a few minutes). I got it to go so it was wrapped up and I took it back to work. I open the wrapper and much to my surprise, the bread is very visibly burnt. I'm sure the guy who hands out the food didn't know b/c it was probably already wrapped. But somebody, him or the person who made it, saw the burnt bread and still served it to a paying customer. Pet peeve number 1! You know something shouldn't be served and you still serve it. That is a concept that baffles me every time I watch Hell's Kitchen and somebody still serves Chef Ramsey something awful. GET IT TOGETHER! I'm a firm believer in giving restaurants more than 1 try b/c you never know if a bad experience was a fluke, but this place purposely served me a sandwich on a burnt roll. Shame! Another pet peeve of mine is when a restaurant has a rewards program (buy 10 and get 1 free type of deal) and doesn't offer it. Yes they were busy, but they also didn't seem to miss a beat with talking to the regulars. Why not take an extra 30 seconds to ask if I would like a rewards card, stamp it, and send me on my way? It wasn't until the people behind me said they forgot theirs and the cashier, Arlene (Bub), said no problem, I'll just sign the bottom of your receipt and you can bring it with your card next visit that I realized they even had such a thing. The sub itself? Well it was ok. It was spiced good and the sauce and onions were good. I didn't particularly like the pork belly. I've had it before at Teddy & the Bull and liked it, but this was just too fatty and chewy for me. I didn't see any kind of brisket and there were a few meatballs. But all the sloppiness made the roll really soggy and extremely difficult to eat. The entire thing just fell apart and I ended up throwing away 1/4 of it b/c I got tired of wiping my hands and face clean after every bite. Luckily for me I'm wearing a white shirt today, but I threw a black sweater around me and used lots of napkins. Next time I'm craving a meatball sub, I'll just head over yonder to Subway and get my usual for $6. It does the trick for much less. Not sure about trying another sandwich (mostly b/c of the cost). I might go back and try the fried PBJ b/c that got good reviews. I noticed they had a tray with some chip crumbs and an empty container of dip. I'm assuming they have it out to sample. Bub and Pop's was underwhelming to me. Maybe my expectations were too high. I got the Al Capone and wasn't a huge fan. The sandwich was super salty-- pretty much all I tasted was salt. Also, the meat had a gameiness to it that I didn't love. Maybe that particular hoagie wasn't for me. Given the rave reviews, I'd be willing to try a different sandwich, but, overall, I wasn't impressed this time around. On the plus side, the service was good. There was a line (it was 1230pm), but it moved quick enough, I want to say only 10 minutes on line, and the sandwiches came out quick enough, another 6-8 minutes. We were lucky enough to get a table, so eating there was more enjoyable, although that table near the bathroom, no, please get rid of this table, it's rediculous. I understand the space is small, but coming from NY, getting rid of this table is not going to affect your business at all. Before going here, we were unsure about how we were going to be treated while on line and ordering due to the INSANE amount of people complaining about the people at the register talking crap about using a credit card, and cash preference, whatever. But, while I was here, I did not hear any of that, thankfully. Because they are 100% right. If you REALLY hate using AMEX, don't accept them, and if you hate having to pay the 1.51% that Visa is currently charging, become a cash only place. You make a good product, do not make your customers go, maybe i wont come back because the pressure/people are overwhelming. You're not Dick's Resort. While up in DC to take in the symphony, this place was number one on our list to check out. A small place and it gets crowded quickly, but was well worth it. I had The Al Capone aka Italian Beef Chicago style with a PBR to wash it down and my girlfriend had the Jewish Hoagie with a Black Cherry Soda. They were both DELISH!!! A little too heavy on the Giardinera but still good. I was a little jealous of the Jewish Hoagie and upon my next trip there I will get that or the Fish Hoagie (which looked awesome as it was being carried to someone else). There's a reason it was voted best lunch in D.C. We got there around 11:30, hoping to avoid the lunch rush, which was probably the smartest thing we did all day. We grabbed a table and then took turns going up to order so as not to lose our prime real estate. I ordered the eggplant parmigiana sandwich, and it was amazing. Lightly breaded, fried eggplant that melted in my mouth, warm cheese, savory sauce. The 1/2 sandwich was plenty, though after discovering a fridge in my hotel room, I was a little sad I hadn't ordered the whole sandwich and saved the rest. Others in my group ordered the beef brisket sandwich and raved about it. One ventured to try the pickle of the day, which was pickled carrots with ginger on that particular day. So after my dental torture, I had to grab some food and thanks to my fellow Yelpers... I stumbled into this little gem! it is easy to miss, like a lot of places in the city, but keep your eyes open, it is well worth the effort. All the food is fresh, the sandwich rolls are amazing and soft, the meat is quality and the homemade chips are to die for!!! I had the Pop's Beef Brisket with apple horseradish cream, 5 yr Gouda, and veal jus... and sea salt and pepper chips with Blood Orange Sanpelligrino soda!! it made my evening better! Then I had a sample of the strawberry basil Italian Ice, one word.... Heavenly... it was the best mix of flavor, WOW... ok that was way more than one word lol... I love this place. How great is Arlene? Always holding down the register with a smile. My boyfriend became super obsessed with this place when he worked around the corner at iron gate. They always remember him. Even when I just say his name. They give some seriously legendary service. I think their sandwiches are SO delicious that I came here for lunch with my parents to celebrate obtaining my masters degree. If you are in the area and are hungry GO HERE! The eggplant parm is my favorite but it isn't always on the menu. If it is. Holy moly is it amazing. It's small. So you MIGHT not be able to get a seat. But don't let that stop you. read more

Was in Dupont Circle last week so I decided to try this place as it appears this is one of only 2 places in the DMV that serves a true Philly style roast pork sandwich (Grazie Grazie being the other). So I ordered two sandwiches - the Italian hoagie and the Philly Special which is their roast pork sandwich. I was really looking forward to the roast pork sandwich as it's my favorite. Wow sooo disappointed. The pork sandwich was so wet and greasy AF. It was as if they dipped the entire sandwich in a pot of oil it was that saturated in grease. I still ate it though but with a fork and out of a bowl. The Italian hoagie was good and is the only reason I didn't give only 1 star. read more

I've worked in the Farragut area since before Bub and Pop's opened, but today was my first visit. If you haven't come here yet, make it a priority! Everything you've heard about his awesome their sandwiches are is true. I checked their daily menu online and decided I wanted the Rich Boy, which has fried shrimp, pickles, tomato, arugula, and sweet peppers (and mayo). There were only a few other people in line when I got there around 1pm on an August Thursday. Ordering was very easy: when you tell them what you want they'll ask directly if you want to make any changes to the sandwich (I didn't). Within 5-10 minutes I had my sandwich and was on my way. Back at my desk the Rich Boy was too good to put down. The flavors were excellent, and the fried shrimp were perfectly prepared. Advice: If you look at the menu and then go to the shop like I did, have in mind 1-2 backup choices in case they've already run out of your first (or second) choice for the day. They make everything in the sandwich, this isn't Subway or Potbelly, so they will run out. Or, go on the earlier side of lunch to reduce the odds of them having run through their supplies of anything for the day. Enjoy! read more

Trying to take advantage of yet another snow day ( Yes, we from the true north find it laughable that we are still not back to work yet but I digress), I decided to attempt a visit to Bub and Pop's, which is only open until 4pm or 7pm depending on the day, making it hard to pay a visit under normal circumstances. I checked their Facebook page (where they also post their daily specials) to ensure they were open today since they were still unopperational the Monday after Snowzilla. After ensuring they were opening today, my friend and I made our way over there on the blue line (Farragut west stop which is not much farther than Farragut north- both just a few blocks from Bub and Pop's) around 11:30, arriving slightly after 12. Upon arrival, the line was already practically out the door, but don't let that deter you, it moved fairly quickly. Although there are only a handful of tables in the place, many people do the carry-out option so don't fret if you can't get a table right away as it clears out frequently. Despite the crowds, I never noticed anyone who wanted a table having to wait more than a couple of minutes for one to clear. Staff is super friendly and helpful! The man that brought out our food also pointed out menus you could look at while waiting in line so you would be ready to order when you made it to the front. At the front of the line, they had free samples of their home cooked kettle chips and French onion dip. They do have beer (HH 5-7 Thursday through Saturday), soda, and unsweetened iced tea (it's DIY with simple syrup next to the container) in addition to water. The toppings bar has a variety of relishes and hot peppers. On this visit, they had no soup or chicken Parmesan sandwich due to delivery issues because of the snow and their special of the day was a corned beef melt, described like a Reuben, with house cured corned beef. While that sounded tantalizing, I was sold once I saw the description of Pop's Beef brisket sandwich! Brisket is one of my favorite meats, and I found the brisket on this sandwich to be flavorful, but perhaps a tad on the drier-than-I'd-like side. I really enjoyed the apple-horseradish sauce, however, I felt that the amount on the sandwich was lacking. The aged Gouda was shaved on the sandwich and plentiful, although I don't disagree with some of the comments that a more melted cheese would be more conducive to this sandwich and would be more absorbing of the veal jus. The veal jus was delicious but more of it ended up in the basket my sandwich came in than on the actual sandwich. My suggestion would be to have it served on the side so the sandwich can be dipped, because it made the bread really soggy and the sandwich fell apart quickly. Don't get me wrong- the flavors here were tasty, but with some minor tweaks, I think this sandwich can go from great to amazing! My friend ordered the bolognese Parmesan- rustic tomato and meat ragout (meatballs, pork belly, and Italian sausage), arugula, carmeluzed onions, aged provolone and pecorino). He thoroughly enjoyed it and offered me a bite; and I concur- it was the best meatball style hoagie I've had the pleasure of trying. The bread used on his sandwich was thick and perfectly toasted. He ended up having to use a "knife and fork" method towards the end due to how messy it was, but hey, aren't the best things in life typically messy? We decided to each get a half sandwich ($8 each) since the whole looked to be a food coma waiting to happen (trust me- it's humongous!) and split an order of the homemade kettle cooked chips ($2). The chips come in a brown paper bag and are easily enough to be split amongst two. They were crisp and fresh and well worth it. I also ordered kosher dill pickles($2). I thought it would be just one pickle spear, but was quite pleased to find a ramekin of fresh homemade pickles. I love,love,love pickles and these were a perfect way to top off the meal! They do have desserts (fried PBJ seemed to be a standout) too. I'm happy I had the opportunity to visit here and will surely return again in the future when my schedule changes to be a bit more flexible in the coming months, if not before that. The atmosphere is very family-oriented and be sure to check out the family pics on the wall! As many of you know, the owner's son was killed in the Middle East right before Christmas, and it touched my heart that a table of three young men behind us went up to the owners' and gave them an American flag and their condolences for their loss. That was really a sweet takeaway from this lovely family-owned business in the heart of DuPont! read more

Very tasty sandwiches!!! I ordered the rich boy. The shrimp was fried to perfection. Crunchy on the outside but moist and soft on the inside without any rubberized texture yo the shrimp. The batter of the shrimp tasted lemony and it was so good!!! My friend ordered the Italian combo and the tomatoes were so well marinated it stole the show from all the other meats in the sandwich. Simply delicious. The prices here could be improved though. $10 is worth it for the "small" sandwiches but bumping the price to $18 for the large (without much of a size difference from the small) is a complete rip off. read more

The days of finding quality sandwiches under $10 in Washington DC is pretty much coming to a close. However, Bub & Pop's is helping to delay and defy this unfortunate reality! Seriously one of the greatest values for a sandwich in the District. Flavors are out of this world and the portions are extremely generous. No need to get a full-sized sub unless you plan to share or bring home leftovers. Would highly recommend the Chicken Parm and Beef Brisket. read more

Working in DC once a month means I get to check out great locations for lunch and dinner. Found this place while looking up a quick place to grab a sandwich and stumbled upon Bub and Pop's thanks to Yelp. Very well marked on M street is this sunken treasure. Not a big place and it gets jumping during the lunch rush hour, so be prepared to stand in a line and order. Good news is they are very quick to get to you and your order and your sandwich is out to you within 5 minutes TOPS. All of the people working there are super friendly and offer up suggestions to help you enjoy your meal that much more. Lots of choices for meals, including their famous brisket and they offer salads and vegetarian options for those in need. I ate here for lunch for the past two days. Yesterday, I had the tuna melt and today I opted for pop's brisket. Both were super tasty and my suggestion would be to try and find a seat and eat on site. Each sandwich walked back 2 blocks with me to work and they were very messy, so I think you'll get a more enjoyable experience eating on premises. If you are hot sauce addict, they have a very hot sauce near the napkins, or you can request a much hotter ghost chili sauce upon request. Probably costs a buck. Excellent pickled options too. Loved the mixed pepper slaw. I did notice the woman at the cashier (I assume Bub) asked one customer in front of me if they wanted a frequent customer card and did not offer this to me on either of my visits. Too bad. I could have asked, but many more places to check out while I am in town the next few months. 3 stars for the fact that $7 or $8 for a half a sandwich is just too much to keep me going back again and again. this place was a great find. It's a cute little place with a very homey atmosphere. The lady who owns it is the mom of the chef and she was the one ringing us up. She was super friendly and you could tell she loved her job. The food was overall ok, I really wanted to like it more but I'm also not a huge sandwich fan so take that into account. We got the Jewish hoagie which was really good but just a bit too much coleslaw for me, the brisket was really good and was my husbands favorite and I really liked the roast prom which was the one featured on drivers, dine in, and dives. It gets pretty busy right at lunch time so try to beat the rush. read more

Perfection in every way. The best sandwich shop in the DC /NOVA region. Everything they offer is fantastic crafted by a CHEF not a line cook. The sandwiches here are great. I'm really upset though that they ran out of the Bolognese Parmesan cause I've heard great things and obviously it's a popular item if they ran out of it by 2:00pm. I did try the Italian and Beef Brisket and thought both of them were fantastic. I do agree with critics when they say that this is the best Italian hoagie. It was very very very good. The flavors worked well and I liked the meat:bread ratio although I could see some people complaining there's not enough meat. But honestly, I don't know if I can justify paying $10 for a small sandwich. It's way too expensive for a sandwich but it was worth trying once. I may come back one more time just to try the Bolognese Parmesan. read more
