Our first time here. Service was horrible, more like non-existent. Food was not that good. Please let me explain. Understand this was our very first time at Bubbalou's. (1) We walked in thinking we would be greeted by a host or server with a smile be seated and given a menu. Instead we walk into two people behind cash registers and a menu behind the cashiers' heads. Like I was ordering from McDonalds. I told the gentlemen behind the counter this was our first time there and we did not know the process. He did not greet us with a smile or really cared about giving new customers a positive experience by offering a little help explanation of Bubbalou's process and maybe some recommendations. Or at the least a smile and a welcome. He handed us some pink paper menus and told us to sit in the other room and when we knew what we wanted come back to the cash register. (2) We came back to the register and started to order and the first thing we wanted was fried mushrooms. The gentlemen told us it was no longer on the menu. I was looking at it on the menu, LOL. No biggie they 86'd that item, so we ordered a different appetizer and the rest of our lunch. Then we found a table and seated ourselves. (3) The food runner brought us everything at once. We ordered and appetizer. If I am not mistaken the appetizer comes before the main meal??? (4) The food. The baked beans came in condiment cup and my french fries were under cooked and still white. The pulled pork was ok, nothing awesome. (5) We sat in front of the kitchen window where I could see one of the cooks eating while preparing food. Also, under the window where the food is expedited was a broken basket where someone had written saying "please do not take napkins...Thank You..." (6) I wanted to take pictures of the scowls on the employees' faces and post them here, but Sherri talked me out of it. I understand people have bad days, so need to make this review worse. This whole experience reminds me of the scene in "My Cousin Vinnie" where Joe Pesi needed to buy a new suit, but "the whole store got the flu." In this case "the whole staff was miserable." Lastly, on our way out the door, I told both cashiers to have a nice day too. Bear in mind, no one said a word to us on our way out. Love this place. Ever since we were introduced to it by local friends, it has become a family favorite. My 3-year-old son loves the pulled chicken sandwich. He became a fan when he first tried it at 2. We miss this place when we come back home. Food is great, prices are great. Looking forward to our next visit in a month! I am new to the area so I am working my way around trying new restaurants. How can you pass up a place with the word Bodacious in its name? I recommend you do. As soon as you walk in the door, you approach the counter. I am okay with this order before you sit type of restaurant. The gentleman taking our order seemed very rushed and had a hard time focusing on what we were trying to order. He answered the phone mid order and than want ahead and asked us for our order all over again. The atmosphere is nice. The booths are nice and roomy. I like that all of the flavors of sauce are available at the table but I don't like the jumbo roll of paper towels at each table. Most of them were covered in barbecue sauce put there by someone else. The wait staff who brought the food and attended to our needs was fantastic. Except for the man taking our order, everyone else was over the top friendly and helpful. I ordered the sausage dinner plate which comes with fries, baked beans, slaw, and garlic bread. I asked for texas caviar instead of slaw. My partner ordered a brisket dinner with cabbage instead of beans. When the food came out we both had cabbage instead of beans and we both had slaw. The cabbage was actually quite good. It had a good texture and lots of flavor. The sausage reminded me of any kielbasa that you could get from the grocery store. Nothing special about it at all. The fries were pretty decent for crinkle cut fries. The bread was pretty dry and I can't speak to the slaw as I don't like slaw..that's why I didn't order it. I did taste her brisket and it had decent flavor but it was definitely on the dry side. I agree with another reviewer that this place has a LOT of potential. The black guy at the cashier space/counter is very rude not only to customers but also to his coworkers. I visited on 4/21/20. Telling them to put things back. Yelling at them really. Saying that he'll send them home. Saying that his coworkers are being ridiculous. Correcting customers on their order because it doesn't fit his terminology very rudely. I ordered black eyed peas, "greens" (which turned out to be cooked collards), green beans, "cowboy caviar" (a cold black eyed pea mix with onion and vinegar) and 4.99 worth of fried pickles considered an appetizer he told me. The guy who took my order was nice, pleasant voice, patient as I decided and told me since I ordered so much he could save me some money and give me a vegetarian plate price as well as include a piece of cornbread. Excellent service I thought! The check presented on a clip board had a place for a tip. I rounded my bill to a total of 15.00 with a 58 cent tip. (Hey I'm not working and this bill to me was a bit pricey for vegetables, but hey he was throwing in cornbread). I was asked to pull up the pickles weren't done - no prob. The packaging was the second most impressive thing. But OHhhhhh So Much Plastic. Each teeny tiny side in a small plastic container 4 plastic containers total one in a paper bag - 3 containers then on top of a plastic plate with a plastic lid.. another paper bag with this tiny fist sized portion of pickles... in a paper boat. No sauce for pickles. Never asked me. They were very well done and average but wonderfully hot. I wonder had they been put thru the fryer twice so to heat them back up? What could be a very solid 4 stars drops to a 3 due to consistency issues. The pulled pork is always on point, it's the sides and service that suffer. One night the sides will be top notch and the employees charming, then the next the employees act as though they could care less about customer service, the beans will be super watered down (literally tastes like water was added), the sauces on the side will be missing entirely, and the sweet tea and Mac and cheese will be just OK. The quality of employee seems to correlate with the quality of food we receive. Manager(s)/Owner(s)- you have have a great thing going here, but take second look at maintaining a consistent customer service and food standard from the minute the doors open until the minute they're locked at night. Very underwhelming experience. I would advice everyone to stay away from the pulled chicken - it was drenched in a ketchup like based sauce. I would have preferred it a little less wet so I can add my own sauce on top. Also, the side portions for Mac and cheese and beans felt like they were from the kids menu. Mashed potatoes and fries have larger portions. I might have went in expecting too much based on previous reviews. There seems to be a 4R v bubba comparison everywhere you look but it's all about what you look for in BBQ, it can be very polarizing. If I had to choose, I would go with 4R. The look and texture were fine but taste was bland. No seasoning in the meat at all and the BBQ sauce didn't help it all because the sauce was bland also. My sides were green beans, Mac and cheese, fries, and beans. During a recent visit for our office team quarterly birthday lunch, we visited Bubbalou's. Unfortunately it failed in the service again and again. 5 of us were on one check, my order got skipped over somehow. I was second out of the five, got my drink when I ordered, but my food never came. The server came back to show us the receipt that we were never charged for my meal, then made my boss go and pay for it before they would serve me. I get paying for the meal, however, it was obviously their mistake and there were 20 of us there for lunch - you'd think the management would have stepped in to make things right. My personal favorites are the sliced beef and their spare ribs. I love BBQ so it pains me to say that I don't love their BBQ. There have been times when the food is "good" but that's rare. More often than not, I'm getting dry barbeque and who likes dry barbeque? The quality is never consistent and I'm not willing to take the risk especially for the price! I'd much rather go to Keller's BBQ because I've never had a bad meal, meaning I've never gotten dry meat! I frequent in the Altamonte area monthly and passed by this place 20 time and decide to give this place a try. I can say this is the best BBQ in the Orlando area. I had the sliced beef sandwich with fries,baked beans and a side of hot BBQ sauce. The food came out in 5 mins. The baked bean had smoked pork mixed in it. The sandwich was fantastic. This was one of the highest rated BBQ places around Orlando / Winter Springs and for some unknown reason I decided I really wanted to try Florida BBQ. Thinking that it's close to some of the good, southern BBQ states, I believed that the qualities may have rubbed off here. I don't live in the south, I've never lived in the south, hell, I lived in Ohio most my life (I suppose on the Ohio/Kentucky border though...but still). Anyhow, I have had better BBQ in the middle of Pennsylvania. The place was okay - it had that BBQ feel that many places like this have - kind of cluttered, a little country. The menu was on one of those boards high school sports stadiums have for their snack stand. It's fine - nothing special - but it's not trying to be. If anything, the place felt a bit dirty because of this. We ordered and the food was fairly pricey for what we got - 2.30 for 2 small jiffy corn bread muffins. Meh. Not worth it. Our food came fast, and while my pulled pork was warm, my husband's brisket was cold. The pulled pork was the best thing - while not the best pulled pork I have (mosey on down to the Spooky Cat for some awesome pulled pork on waffles - it's much better) - but the brisket was pretty awful. Salty, cold, and just not very good whatsoever. The macaroni and cheese was okay - it was a bit more buttery, but it was what BBQ mac and cheese is supposed to be - not super amazing (in my opinion). The corn bread was pretty terrible, especially for the cost. The sauces, which are set in clear ketchup bottles on the table - mostly just taste like generic sauces with additions (like brown sugar, spice, etc etc). Also the sauce isn't warm which hurts the meal itself ( I prefer places that either warm these bottles up for each customer or give you small sides of your preferred sauce.) This place has been a staple for years in Altamonte Springs. I went here this evening for the first time with my son. It was alright. After eating their food, I had the sausage platter with fried. My son had the pork sandwich. The sausage was good, nothing special. The fries looked as if they were old. My son's sandwich was good, the pork was tasty. Their selection of sauces left a bit to be desired. 5 choices are good, but three of them were Mild, Hot, or Killer. So it's the same sauce with varying degrees of spice. They also had sweet and honey mustard. After tasting how sweet the honey mustard was, I declined tasting the one labeled Sweet. The menu has a vast variety and the service was lightning quick. Of course, this was a Thursday evening around 7, so it wasn't peak time. Overall, I much preferred Mission BBQ for the taste and variety in sauces. However, Bubbalou's offers a bigger menu. read more
