I went in today after almost 2 years without a professional cut. Selda has been my stylist the few times I've actually made time to do my hair and she is always wonderful. Today she went the extra mile and a half for me. She was so excited to help me get a fresh new look and took her time with each step. I saw Grace for years before COVID and got to a point where I tell her the length I wanted then let her choose a style she thought would suit me. Post-COVID it seems like Grace is no longer at the salon. But, having had several good experiences, I decided to take a chance and go back. Wrong decision. I recommend avoid the woman with reddish medium length hair that doesn't look brushed or combed. My hair was below my bra strap when I went in and the stylist and I discussed that I wanted the cut to be about 2 inches below my shoulders, aka no higher than my armpit. We get done with the cut, I go home to look at it more closely in the mirror and realize my hair is now barely brushing my shoulders. How the stylist managed to cut 3 extra inches off my hair, I have no idea. Worse, when I confronted her about it, she didn't really seem to understand the impact of what she had done. I have an event planned in August where I am going to have pictures taken. I was going to curl my hair to look like Liv Tyler in Lord of the Rings, but I can't do that now, thanks so much. And every time I see the pictures from this time forward, I will always remember the messed up hair cut I got from this stylist. I give credit to the manager for refunding the cut, but I am never going back. Sadly,there is absolutely nothing that can be done to make this truly right. I will now have to wait months until my hair grows back out and will feel ugly that entire time. Adding to this - washed my hair, removing the style that had been applied. It has been completely butchered. Found a ton of strays that had not been cut with the rest, it's uneven, the fact that my hair has a funky wave to it is more pronounced, and the broken strands are much more visible. A simple straight cut folks - and this is what happened. read more

This was the first time at Bubbles. I booked online with "any" stylist. I was assigned a "level 8" stylist who wanted to charge me nearly $300 for a partial highlight and cut. Really? $45 for toner, which every other salon charges $20 for. After nearly walking out (which I should have) we agreed on a price, which was still around $230. She said she wouldn't charge me for the toner- and she didn't- but she also didn't tone my hair, which she said she'd do. So, it took an hour and a half for the stylist to do highlights and lowlights and cut my hair. The highlight job is patchy, meaning I literally have patches where the color took better rather than a blended look. The cut is probably fine but it doesn't match my face shape, so I'm back to wearing it up all the time. I do not recommend this salon at all. It was the worst experience I've had getting my hair done in NOVA. read more

My daughter visited the salon today for an appt that was booked online for cut and blowdry. We were told that the charge would be $48 for the service. When my daughter was seated they told her because she wanted some layers in her hair that the service was now $66 plus tip. Talk about bait and switch... Called the salon and requested that they issue the $18 credit.... crickets........ I do hope they issue a credit for her, and make things right. read more

I went In for a full cut and color. Kelly took really good care of me. I went in with a picture of what I wanted and came out with something way better! She painted in my color and blended a few different shades of red to get a real multidimensional look. I couldn't be happier! I had highlights done at this salon by Becca today. Becca was really nice and fun, and she did a great job on my hair. She was very professional, and always kept me up to date on what my tab was running. I could tell that she cares about her work and I'll definitely go back to her. The reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because the Bubble's menu has changed. This is not a reflection on Becca or even this particular location, but the whole franchise in general. I understand that you need to charge more to keep up with the times, but when I used to go to Bubbles a blowout and finish came with your color. I understand that a blowout (especially on my curly mop) takes up a lot of the stylist's time. I would prefer that they include that into the cost of getting color done, because I seriously feel like I'm at Haircuttery getting nickle-and-dimed when every little thing is an extra charge. I would rather see one big number up front than get to the end of the appointment and have it be $40 more than I budgeted for. Overall, I would recommend the salon, especially Becca, but I would also recommend that you plan on spending $30-50 above the price on the menu. read more

I called and made an appointment for only a haircut, no blowdry/styling, hoping to save some money (and knowing I was going to work out and mess up my hair later anyway). On the phone, I was told the starting price for this service would be $35 (not bad at all, especially for this area). Other area salons charged $50+ for a haircut without styling. My stylist, Mary, was super friendly and chatty (in a good way). I told her I'm trying to grow my hair out super long, but want to freshen up my style. Also since I got an ombre a few months ago, my hair has been tangling a lot and feeling dry. I told her I'd be okay with taking off up to 2 inches to get rid of my split ends. She told me I'd only have to lose an inch and asked if I wanted more layers and angling (I said yes, please). She also agreed that my hair was dry but told me she'd use a good conditioner to help with that. Also before shampooing, she told me the cut would cost $40 today (I assumed that was with a blowdry, so I didn't mind). Mary recommended the salon's shampoo and conditioner, as well as a deep conditioning/repair treatment, but she was never pushy about it. It felt like she was just making suggestions rather than trying to sell me things. She gave me exactly what I wanted: freshened up layers, angles in the front, and no more split ends. My hair texture felt a lot smoother too. I'm moving from the area but will definitely book another haircut with Mary when I'm in Sterling again! read more

First time at this Bubbles, I found Grace based off of previous reviews and loved her! She was very thorough and took her time to listen to me and what my goals were. Did a great job on the cut and color! I would definitely recommend. The only reason I didn't do 5 star is because $145 for cut and color ($170 after tip) seems too high for a Bubbles salon experience. But admittedly I am frugal, so maybe that is just me! read more

While I am going to refrain from posting the stylist's name on this review because she is very kind, and despite visiting her 3 times in a row for color....and struggling to get good results from her services each visit.... it is my fault for coming back. Yesterday's service took 3 hours - she was excited about the photo I showed and spent 3 hours on my hair - as you can see from the photos not only does it not look like the picture but it just looks like my roots have grown out for over a year. $140 and 3 hours later plus a tip...I wound up having to get a color correction from another salon in Ashburn and had to pay there too - now my hair looks nothing like I had wanted of course. I did not ask for my money back, I don't like confrontation and discomfort, I would love to get a refund and to urge anyone thinking of going to Bubbles 28 to think again - this is not a job that should ever come out of a professional hair salon anywhere. read more

Selda butchered my hair! I spend years growing out my very fine and straight hair. While my hair is thin, I have a lot of it but it still took years getting it to look good. It was half-way down my back and I asked for a healthy trim - no more than 1-2 inches off and long (very long) layers in order to keep the fullness. Well...when she was cutting, she turned my chair away from the mirror and when I finally saw my hair again it was 6 inches shorter. Not only that but she did horrible layers! The layers go from my cheek to 5 inches below! So now, my once long locks that made it look thick now is flat to my head making it look like I have no volume - better yet it looks like I have two level to my hair! One at the cheek (straight across) and the other at the bottom right below by shoulders. This is going to take 1-2 years to grow back - and in the meantime I get to look like a modern day mullet in girl form. I can't believe she is allowed to work there - she has no idea how to cut hair! Avoid at all costs! read more

The staff was perfectly nice over the phone and quick to get me an appointment, as I had been there before. After my appointment for a bang trim, which took LESS THAN 5 MINUTES, I was very surprised at check out. I asked if I owed anything for my BANG TRIM, and the woman behind the desk said it would be $10. I was VERY surprised considering all previous times I've come into Bubbles for just a bang trim, it has been free of charge or the occasional $5. I couldn't help but show my surprise and discomfort, and explained why I was surprised at the price. The woman behind the counter seemed like she couldn't care less, and didn't even address me with a response besides asking if I wanted my receipt. I went there to get a shorter hairstyle from Selda and was thoroughly disappointed with what I left with. Along with coming in with a picture, I explained exactly what I wanted (minimal layers, I didn't want my bangs touched because I wanted my hair longer in the front going into an angle in the back) and the first thing she did was chop 2 inches off my bang, then added choppy layers.
