Service was decent and quick. The food was alright. The bruschetta wasn't good - it was just garlic bread with diced tomatoes on top. Nothing special, and not very delicious. We ordered the baked ziti, but asked to have the spicy diavolo marinara instead of regular marinara, and they gave us the regular marinara anyway. This was my second time to this chain, first time downtown Chicago. The server was really good. We ordered the mashed potatoes, broccoli, and the stuff chicken breast. Potatoes, great. Broccoli was a little to peppery, and ok. I did expect more stuffing (especially cheese) in the stuffed chicken breast but it was still good. The creamy pesto sauce that came with it was really good, especially when eaten with the potatoes. The Tiramisu was VERY STRONG. The waiter told us it was and he was right, it was def. too much for us. Couldn't complain because he truly was upfront about it. Overall a good experience and value for the money. I've eaten at Buca di Beppo many times and I have never had a problem until I went there with my family for dinner last weekend. As soon as the server came to the table, he started talking about how he didn't like his job and how he was going to get hammered when he gets off work. It was really bizarre. When we placed our order, my uncle wanted a meatball sandwich. He was told that meatball sandwiches are not available during the weekend. They have meatballs and bread, why can't they throw a sandwich together? The manager came to the table and the solution was that they would bring a meatball and some bread, but my uncle would have to assemble the sandwich himself. Since I was the only person at the table that wanted Cesar salad and I didn't want an entire family size bowl for just myself, I inquired if I could get a small side salad. The server said maybe I could get a lunch salad but he would have to check with the "salad chef". Ok fine. My salad finally did come but not until well after the main dishes came out. I told the server that it would have been nice to have the salad before the food came. He apologized but made a point to say that he really wasn't supposed to give me the small salad. Other restaurants bend over backwards to try to give you what you want. I guess that's not the policy at Buca di Beppo. On top of that, I was charged $13 for the salad. What a rip off. The salad was not even good. Barely any dressing, no shaved Parmesan cheese. Just a few shreds of lettuce and some croutons for $13. If I knew what they where going to charge me, I wouldn't have even bothered. I don't see myself going back to Buca di Beppo anytime soon. read more

Came here to celebrate my graduation and ended up going to dinner without eating dinner. The pasta was disgusting. We ordered Penne with Vodka sauce and it was basically extremely watered down with a VERY subtle garlic taste. The Alfredo sauce tasted like all they did was whip heavy cream without any sort of cheese. The Frutta Di Mare was watered down..no seafood flavor. We ended up leaving the plates all full because for a second I thought I was at Olive Garden. This was supposed to be a special night and it makes me so sad that after being with Buca for the last 6 years, we're never coming back. The manager and waiter handled it gracefully and took the pastas off our bill rightfully because we hardly touched the pasta so for that I'm thankful but other than that it was gross and I wish I would've just gone to the restaurant next door to celebrate a special night. We celebrated my brothers moving away party here. All of the food is served family style. So ordering a few dishes that everyone likes and sharing is the best way to go. If you don't you'll have excessive amounts of food left over. The waiter we had was outstanding. He was dealing with our loud crazy party of 12 very nicely. And on that note. This place is not quite, since it is a family style establishment, they have large groups of people dining so it tends to be quite noisy. If you are looking for an intimate dinner for two, this is not your place. If you have a large group or kids, this is a great place to go. Loveee this place! The food is always amazing (when is Italian NOT amazing!?) and the service is even better. Every time I come here they are so accommodating and look like they don't break a sweat. A great experience - I called them the night before my birthday dinner because I could not find anywhere that would take a reservation for 15 people on such short notice (Saturday night of course). They were just so great and easily took the reservation without any problems. That Saturday night we had only 1 waiter for 15 people (and about 10 different checks) and he was the nicest guy. Food - we were a party of 10 people and ordered two small dishes and a large pizza. There was a ton of food. We came in about an hour before closing. Often, the food will be on the lesser quality at that time. Our food quality was excellent. Service - our service was more than adequate. Our server however, was very intrusive. The service stood there and listened to more than half of our conversation during dinner. We had just come from a family reunion and wanted to spend some time together. It felt incredibly awkward. Right away when you walk in you get this feeling... is this planet Hollywood...just in little Italy??? Wait! Buca Di Beppo is owned by Planet Hollywood and you get the feeling right away. Tons of pictures and kisch all over every inch of the walls and the areas are all set up like rooms with crazy things (like the popes head) in the middle of your table. We had never had dinner here before and really didn't get lots of help from our waiter even after telling him this. He said all the portions are big.. and they are you get a TON of food for the two person size. We had starter of a combo of stuffed mushrooms (really good) mozzarella fried and calamari. the last two were really greasy and both seamed to stay in the fryer a little too long. They were extra crispy and dark brown, I now wish we would have sent it back asking for another plate it was so dark. We had shared the lasagna and it was only so-so the meat inside was odd and it did not have enough sauce around it, and a really good lemon veal dish that had great flavor but almost tasted like the veal was reheated and a build your own pasta with things that I got to pick in it. The build your own was by far the best tasting item. The pasta was fresh and the veggies were cooked just right. It had lots of garlic that we love. We had tons of food for leftovers as well. Our biggest problem was we were still eating and another waitress started to vacuum with a shop vac right next to us. It was so load that I was going to video tape it and our waiter came in and the other table next to us complained with us. he went over and she stopped but it was really unprofessional. I was about as hungry as it gets when we pulled into Buca Di Beppo around 8:00 on Friday night. As first time visitors, we were a little bit confused when the waiter walked us through the kitchen to our seat. We quickly ordered a bottle of wine (Chateau St. Michelle Riesling) and some calamari for an appetizer. The calamari was delicious, although they put red pepper flakes in the marinara sauce, so if you don't want your mouth to be on fire after the marinara, ask for them to nix the red pepper. We asked the waiter a few questions about the menu - portion sizes, etc. "Small" sized meals are meant to be shared between two, "Large" to be shared among four, and there are also individual portions. We chose the individual portions. I had chicken Parmesan and my fiance had chicken saltimbocca. As a chicken Parmesan connoisseur, Buca's was good. Not the best, but definitely good. The chicken was very thin and small. The sauce is delish though! I would recommend Buca Di Beppo. read more

I've been to Buca a few times actually, Very good place, i felt the service was good. Food has a lot of flavor, you get a ton of it and it's at a decent price. I enjoy the Bruchetta and their seafood pasta dish. Get the large and enjoy for days! I just went back there recently and was a tad bit dissapointed. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer and you only got 5? For 12.95 i was not impressed at all. The service took forever, 20 mins to get app, 30 mins on top of that to get our entree. I eat a lot and the small size dish was enough to feed us both (and for leftovers). I had a 10 dollar off coupon so our bill was pretty cheap. (about 30 with tip). I ate here over the weekend to celebrate a family birthday. We were there for lunch, so there were hardly any other patrons in the restaurant. Let me start off by saying that the portions are huge. I always count on taking home leftovers when I go to Buca Di Beppo. The food is good too. On this day I had the margherita pizza (spelling???). It was much more than I could eat in one sitting. Our waiter was friendly and attentive to our needs. We were seated in a fairly isolated part of the restaurant but we didn't feel abandoned. He came by to check on us - but didn't keep nagging us every 5 minutes like some restaurants do. Overall it was a great dining experience. The atmosphere is very Italian, even if the music they play is slightly annoying. I should also mention that I went there to celebrate my wedding anniversary for dinner back in June. The restaurant was a lot busier. We got seated in the corner in a really crowded part of the restaurant. To make matters worse, there was an offensive odor lingering in the air. I almost never complain at restaurants, but this time I had to say something. Of course, I was very polite about it. I discreetly asked our waitress if we could move tables. She was more than accomodating and moved us to a quiet area that didn't smell. She was apologetic. Our entire dining experience that night was fantastic. I love that place I have only been there once but i was quite impressed with their food. I ordered take out , chicken alfredo with mozzarella garlic bread. HUGE PORTION!! it lasted for 3 meals lol the mozzarella garlic bread was simply amazing, very fresh and crunchy, just delicious! The pasta was really good too , but i wash't wowed. We came here as a family & friends luncheon after a funeral for a friend. I had never been here before but always wanted to go. The waitstaff were very accommodating, extremely attentive & polite. The food was amazing, everything was good I honestly don't remember disliking anything which is rare i usually have a small opinion on the way something could be changed. Lets see if I can remember what we had... Salad, french bread & garlic bread, fried mozzarella, Fried Calamari,Fettuccine Alfredo, ,Chicken Parmigiana, Ravioli & Italian sausage & meatballs. Me and my gal decided to have our Valentines Day dinner here. I made reservations for 7:30, but weren't actually seated until 8:00. I can understand a short wait, but 30 mins (even on a popular holiday) seems a tad too long. Staff was friendly and the food is pretty darn good. Was bummed to learn they were out of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, so we settled on the next best option on the menu. We ordered mini-meatballs appetizers to start out and they were tasty. My biggest beef with this place is the noise level. We were seated in one of the smaller rooms, and our neighboring tables' conversations bounced off the walls. One member of our group wears hearing aids, and the ancillary noise made it impossible for him to stay in our own conversation. The food was just ok. I really expected more. I went with my girlfriend to a birthday dinner with her friends here. Since there was a reservation made there was almost no wait to get to our table. We were in a fairly large group and were served bread and drinks within 10 minutes of being seated. I felt that it took too long to be waited on to order food... BUT then again there were alot of people in our group and it was a bit complicated to order with the portion sizes. With that said the portion sizes are really big so its tough to just order for yourself, and you'll want to share with other people. This goes against everything I'm about as I hate sharing food hahaha. It turned out to be good though, as I was able to try several different dishes. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. There were many other dishes ordered around me, Penne ala Vokda, Chicken Parmigiana, Baked Rigatoni, etc. Everything tasted really good... not best Italian food I ever had good... but really good. I had some birthday cake at the end to top it off... left very stuffed. It was a tough night for me as my back was in the process of going out on me... but even through that discomfort the food really hit the spot. I was going to give this place a 3 star.. but it is better than average. If I could go 3.5 or 3.75 that would better represent how I felt about it. I'm the type of guy that knows what he wants within a few minutes of looking at the menu, so the 20 to 30 minute wait when I was starving was a bit much. Went in at 1pm, and was served by a server named Leeah. We were one of 5 tables in the restaurant, and even that was split with another server. When taking our order, she began coughing uncontrollably and walked away. That would have been fine if she would have returned shortly thereafter to finish taking our order, but she did not. When we finally saw her again 5mins later, we had to get her attention just to try and clarify if she had even taken our order. She said it was "okay" because she hadn't "even put the order in yet." That was odd, but then after we finally got our food, we never were checked on even when our drinks were all empty, though she rushed by us multiple times. We decided to flag her down in order to ask for a refill for our son, which she actually tried to pass to him OVER THE BOOTH'S WALL, keeping as much distance between herself and us as possible, I presume. When we asked for boxes, she simply put them on our table and walked away, which I only mention because the other 5x we've gone to Buca, they've boxed it for us each and every time. Having a kid nowadays it seems is a very complex process. It isn't just a baby shower and baptism anymore. There are other important events as well. The "Announcement" (just as big a deal as Lebron's Decision) in where you let the whole world know of your bundle of joy baking in the oven. The "Gender Reveal" in which you surprise your family and friends by revealing the gender of the upcoming baby. As our second baby was announced a month ago or so, my wife and her family decided that we should have a second gender reveal party (we had one for our first at Maggiano's). That being said, Buca was the only restaurant that could accommodate our numbers (15 adults and 10 kids) so we opted for it. I had eaten at Buca prior and had a pretty good dining experience so I was ok with it. When we filed in around 7PM on a Saturday evening, we were walked to a back room with long tables. I was a little worried because of the size of our party, that if we were in a packed dining room it would be hard to manage all of the kids. This back room seemed to be for bigger parties so there was room for the kids to roam a bit and there was only one other party (10 or so adults) on the opposite side of the room. We all sat down and got settled in to look at our options on the menu. Pretty standard Italian fare and they have an option for a "family style" layout in which the entrees were portioned large for up to 5 ppl per entree. We ordered the Chicken Limone, Chicken Marsala, Spaghetti with Meatballs, and the Shrimp Florentine. We also ordered 3 apps (Apple Gorgonzola Salad, Calamari, and Stuffed Mushrooms.) First off lets talk food before I reason why I gave them just three stars. The Food itself was actually 3.75 stars. The appetizers were pretty standard and what I would expect from a decent Italian restaurant. Both chicken dishes were seasoned well and super moist. The Spaghetti was also very flavorful and the meatballs were what made the dish. The Shrimp Florentine was bit of a disappointment. When you put garlic in the description, I expect to taste garlic. Didnt really get much flavor at all. Secondly, our server Bradley was phenomenal. I am sure as a server and dealing with a large party with 10 or so kids can be a very challenging experience, yet Bradley handled it like a pro. Even with small mistakes or forgetting a drink, he was quick to grab what we needed and was very attentive and engaged throughout. As far as service it was actually 4.5 stars. Let's get to the meat of why this review became a 1 star review. It dropped because of the way the manager handled the situation that occurred with another group of 4 sitting next to us. Halfway through dinner, one of the ladies from the group of 4 said to one of the ladies in our group "can your kids keep it down? We can't hear ourselves talk." Now, as a father, and a protective one at that, I really fought back the urge to say something back. We simply shrugged it off and put most of the kids in the far corner of the room away from that group's table. At the end of the day though, they are kids. To entertain these kids, one of the fathers in the group had them seated in a circle and was making them laugh and sing along with him. Then, the same lady said "You really need to get your kids to shut up. This is a restaurant and they are too loud." At that point one of the mothers got into some words with her. Here's where the mistake was made. The manager comes out and apologizes to the group of 4. Then continues to our group and tells us that maybe the kids were being a bit too loud. Didn't even acknowledge that the lady talking smack to us was being...well to be honest...rude as f*ck. If I were the manager, I probably would have not sat a group of 4 OLDER people next to a huge group of kids and parents. They looked grumpy coming in and it showed later. Then, the manager should have either moved them or offered them some free dessert perhaps. But the fact that she came to us and backed up the group of 4 without asking what happened or what was said was pretty sh*tty in fact. We selected their restaurant to celebrate our special moment with family, and we did not get any respect or the benefit of the doubt. Needless to say, I am disappointed in two things which will probably never make me book that restaurant again. The manager's ineptness in dealing with the situation and the fact that lady berating us was obviously offended by children's happiness and laughter. All throughout, Bradley, our server kept composed and we tipped him accordingly. I really try to not play the race card because I feel its 2017..but a small part of me feels like there might have been a different result had we been NOT brown. I could be overreacting and that's cool...but either way, I expected better judgement from one who is a manager of a service industry. That's the good- after that though I feel it was very expensive for what was received and have been annoyed ever since. 2 glasses of the cheaper selection wine , 1 salad and 1 entree for 93 dollars? My family has been to various Buca's on many occasions. We usually enjoy it quite a lot. However, last night was by far the worst experience we have had there. We took eight people to the Lombard location and we were very excited because our friends had not been there before. However, that excitement quickly turned to disappointment due to various issues. Here is a list of shortcomings: The bathrooms had no hot water or paper towels. My concern is that if the bathroom has no hot water, does the kitchen have hot water for cleaning the dishes? Our garlic mozzarella bread was awful. It had so many large chunks of garlic on it that it was nearly inedible. The bar ran out of Limoncello so they were unable to make many of their drinks. The spicy rigatoni was so spicy that it made you sweat to eat it. The staff seemed to be very cranky and absent. I had to wait 15 minutes to find a server to get a soda refill, and on a couple occasions when we need it something we had to go find them. As we approached a group of servers, they were swearing using the "F" word repeatedly. We will probably go back to Buca, but last night was a definite stain on their image as far as we are co Well it has been 2 weeks and nobody has contacted me. Had a great dinner! Our server Ray did an excellent job. There were 4 of us and we ordered a large Caprese salad, large mozzarella garlic bread (fantastic), small prosciutto stuffed chicken, large chicken Marsala, small baked ziti and a garlic mashed side. Oh, and tiramisu for dessert! Needless to say we were stuffed but the plan was to have leftovers that we shared. Everything tasted great! We were all fat and happy. Haven't been here in about 4 years and won't be back. Upon arrival, the hostess was rude and could be heard using profanity about being short servers, etc. She seemed annoyed that customers were coming in to eat. We waited about 10 minutes for a table- no big deal. We ordered calamari as a starter. I could tell it was frozen and old...the pieces were small and the little bit of calamari under the breading were dry. We ordered a salad and eggplant parm after. The salad!! Greasy, brown lettuce with old tomatoes and dried out peppers on top. No black olives as stated on menu and the salad pieces were not even consistently cut to bite sized pieces. No salt and pepper on the table to try to even mask the flavor. We showed our waitress the brown greasy salad and she took it off of our bill. I apologized to her because I hate complaining. When the eggplant came, I immediately noticed the amount of grease it was swimming in. It was soggy and greasy. No pasta came with for as much sauce it was drowning in. Nothing about the food is authentic Italian or fresh. We didn't complain about the entrée because at this point, we just wanted to go home. Well, lol, the waitress charged us for another table's bill which was almost 3 times the amount of ours! I brought this up to the hostess who then yelled to our server "so and so, you fucked up again!" The manager finally came over and proceeded to tell me that even though the money was already shown as taken out of my account, he could do nothing at the moment and that it is up to the bank to refund my money in 5-7 days!! He then wanted to charge my card for the proper bill amount on top of what had already posted on my bank statement!! He actually argued with us when I refused to pay more money due to their mistake and blamed it on my bank. I had finally had it and told him the food all sucked and I wouldn't pay another dime until I was refunded. He then said rudely he would "take care" of our meal for the night. It was the only right thing to do as far as I was concerned at this point, not to mention having to deal with his terrible cigarette breath coming from behind his mask. Very dirty and unwelcoming place. Although our waitress was nice, she disappeared after overcharging us. Just yuck. Wish I would have taken pictures but I am sure you can use your imagination. Fried calamari was a hot but some pieces were soggy. The marinara sauce was warm and tasty. We had a Chicken Rigatoni pasta. There was very little chicken pieces and the sauce was sparse. Holy cow has this place gone down hill. We ordered an anti pasta salad that tasted beyond soggy and over drenched in Italian dressing, although that could have been the hi-light of the meal. We then went with an order of Italian meatballs topped with ricotta cheese for our entree (both being on low carb diets) GROSS. The meat had a very prevalent metal taste and was completely inedible. Neither of us could finish even A meatball. We did inform the server that the food was edible and she didn't compensate with any suggestions for a replacement. $100 with tip-it's unfortunate we had such a bad experience and furthermore wasted money and a night out with the family on such a horrible meal. read more

I visited this restaurant last Thanksgiving weekend. The food was good; however, the pasta was a little tough and the bread was a little dry. I had the Shrimp Fra Diavolo. The service was prompt and courteous even though the restaurant was crowded. read more

Bridal shower calamity at the Lombard, IL location. I was shocked when I received the final bill for a party of 20 guests that Buca's charged $18 for a glass of chardonnay and $17 for a glass of riesling! Those prices are outrageous! Especially at a place like Buca's where I had always felt prices were more reasonable than high-end restaurants. I expected Buca's to be more family-friendly with family-friendly prices. With a few other minor mishaps, I'm very disappointed in Buca's We will not go back there! It's really too bad because this had been one of my family favorites but I can't patronize an establishment who took advantage of a situation such as a bridal shower to charge outrageous prices for a glass of wine and then won't call me back when I complained. So my holiday party will be elsewhere. read more
