Went to GP Italiano for a family dinner. Our group ordered the calamari, garlic bread, vodka sauce rigatoni, margarita pizza, and chicken parmigiana. The food sadly was not up to par. Our pasta was very undercooked and it was hard. The calamari was very fried, the flavor profile became was more fried dough than the flavor or the calamari. The chicken parmigiana was good however the pasta was undercooked there was well. The service was very very good. And our waiter was very kind and attentive. The ambiance was very beautiful. Everything was clean and it was very nicely decorated. Unfortunately our meals were not delicious and the flavors were not as rich as we expected. Just wanted something not far from home so I took a ride to LaGrange and decided to go to GP italiano ! From start to finish, this food was delicious! The honey ricotta app was incredible! I got the shrimp and crab risotto I ate it ALL (yum!!!) My husband got the sausage and pepper risotto- he couldn't finish it because the portion was large! So we took it home. We came here for Father's Day and everyone had a great experience. read more

We found a lovely spot in La Grange called GP Italiano. We sat at the bar chatting Emily who was warm and welcoming! She is also co-owner along with her husband, Chef Joe. After some wonderful recommendations from Emily, we ordered a few dishes and enjoyed each one more than the next. And you absolutely have to order one of their delicious pizzas, cooked in their beautiful brick-oven pizza. We're thrilled we found this gem of a spot and highly recommend you visit asap! read more

Fried calamari was the best we had in a long time and waitpersons were helpful telling us what wine to order, also order the pizza Diavolo that's a must to try.. will go back again just for there pork chops..its a great place to have a great tasting food and service was excellent too! Pre-meal: Reservations are through website though place not crowded on an early Sunday night. Room: Clean and modern. Nice light fixtures and green wall. Pretty bar area but it's set up for eating. AC was very cold. Picture-taking: A bit dark but doable. Beverages: Didn't look. Menu: Contemporary Italian. Apps, a few salads, a large number of pastas, wood-fired pizza, some entrees. I didn't look at desserts. It's not your "traditional" Italian spot. Food: The beet salad was great. Caesar salad sported an ice-cold, fresh tasting combo of chopped romaine and baby arugula, delicious dressing and lots of parmigiana. All very good except the croutons were stale and I had to pull them out. The carbonara seemed fairly legit but the guanciale was strangely bland. The radiatori pasta with Nduja, shrimp and tomatoes was also not nearly sauced enough. We did not have dessert. Service: Fine. Price: Moderate. Value: Could be better. Joined the GP staff for Valentine's Day this year and was not disappointed! Upon entry, the restaurant has a modern, fresh look to it. Every table was practically taken which was a great sign. We started off with the fried calamari which were good, but seemed to have been sitting for a little. The texture ate a little soggy, but overall, the pairings of the dipping sauces were great. All pastas are made fresh for the day and you can tell! For the entree, I ordered the lasagnette which was excellent. The portion was hefty too, definitely good for a hungry soul or a take home baggy for leftovers. I definitely recommend ordering any of their pastas; they all looked divine when placed on my neighboring tables. My boyfriend ordered the n'duja and ricotta pizza which was good too! Wood-oven pizza cooked in a proper oven, you can tell the dough sits longer than most pizza places. The dough ate light and fluffy, and very easy to go down. We finished off with a special black forest cake (valentines day special) which was good, but a little sweeter than anticipated. We'd like the try the olive cake or the pistachio pie next time. Overall, we enjoyed our meal! Worth the trip for a really good pasta dish; make the trip in and enjoy dinner here. read more

This restaurant is over rated and over priced. My husband and I went there on Sunday June 29th for our Anniversary expecting a nice quite dinner and with good service. it was not! Way too loud in this small restaurant. Only 2 servers making drinks, taking orders, delivering food and busing tables. No manager around! I had the shrimp scampi with fire roasted cherry tomatoes. What I got was 4 small pan saute'ed tomatoes and shrimp that was so tough I had to cut with a knife. The Gelato pie was nothing but a block of frozen ice and tasted the same. We had the Gelato pie before and it was amazing! It was not our first time at GP Italiano. This time everything changed! And not for the good. My husband and I drive past often, and have been meaning to give it a try! Tonight was the night. We are always skeptical when trying new Italian restaurants because we have our tried and true staples. I must say, we were delighted with GP's selection and quality of food. We ordered the bread service, meatballs, and grilled calamari for appetizers. The calamari had a yummy risotto in the middle! The meatballs were yummy, but it was not our favorite vodka sauce. For our entrees we had the agnolotti and the gnocchi, and they were both so flavorful. Our whole order came to about $110, and I feel that is a fair price for the quality and quantity of food. We will certainly be back, and we hope to dine inside next time. When I went to pick up our food, the inside of the restaurant looked so beautiful! Good food, lovely place. We had the pizza tonight--delicious. The spumoni pie was delicious, and our daughter loves the bombolonis.

Whatever you order there - DO NOT make it the (laughingly called) "Mushroom Raviolo"!!! It's also supposed to contain (according to the menu) egg yolk, truffle butter and pine nuts. It contained none of the above (including MUSHROOMS!). Instead, I got some kind of dumpling (with thick dough) - apparently the raviolo. It did have some kind of yellow circle on top (presumably a little smear of beaten egg yolk, that you couldn't eve taste) and was filled with bland ricotta cheese. Then came the "best" part - the raviolo was surrounded by some mystery items (still no idea what they were). They looked at first glance like long, rectangular slices of cheese, but that was wrong. They were all very stringy, nearly impossible to cut with the knife provided and extremely hard to chew (I had to discretely spit out some pieces. No way could I finish this! When I came home, I felt very sick to my stomach and vomited the few mystery pieces. I recommend the restaurant either bother to make this dish edible or remove it from the menu! read more

This was our first time coming to this restaurant. We were the first people to be seated and had terrible service, the waiter did not check on us after we put our appetizer and meal in. A second waiter stopped by our table and asked if we were ready to put our food order in we informed her that we had already put in our order. I watched her walk over to the order area and speak with the person expediting the food and saw him shrug to the waitress question. Three other groups came in after us and received their food before us. It took 50 minutes to get our meals and I had risotto that was not cook all the way. we were a group of two people the food should not have taken that long to get to us. Once we received the check the waiter picked it up and proceeded to chat with a table that was not assigned to him without processing our payment. When we asked for a manager we were informed that a manger was not present at the moment on a Saturday night. We will not be returning ever. read more

Visiting Chicago and stopped in for supper. We loved the menu, the food was excellent, the servers were very knowledgeable and the owners were extremely nice and personable. We are both La Grange residents and enjoy the variety of restaurants La Grange has to offer. We decided to try one of the newer restaurants with local owners. GP Italiano exceeded expectations by far! The Cesar salad had a generous amount of Parmesan and some arugula for a bit of a kick. I'm usually hesitant to order carbonara because my husband makes a wonderful version and this did not disappoint. Unable to get attention of my server, so asked other server for water and she seemed annoyed and reached out to our server to come to our table. Not sure why I felt we were being ignored. I love this place. And it has consistently stoked my need for some home cooked carbs. The homemade pasta is hands down some of the best I've ever experienced. Perfectly cooked - the texture and bite one should expect. My daughter got a wood oven pizza last night and it too was authentic and delicious. Service is attentive. My son and I went there for dinner on Saturday night. Service was very good. My son's dish of carbonara was excellent. I ordered braciole. The neck bones were excellent. The braciole itself was dry and so over seasoned with black pepper that it was practically inedible. It was served with orecchiette and marinara which was just ok. For dessert my son had creme brule which was delicious. I had the chocolate mousse cake. The mousse was very good. The cake itself was very dry. There is a charge for bread service which I have never seen at an Italian restaurant. This is an expensive place and not worth it one bit. We will never return. read more

Food is okay; overall experience is not worth the price. Some dishes are good (my husband's cappelletti was tasty, although small) but some are really not good (like focaccia bread that was somehow both burnt on the outside and raw in the middle). I would not recommend coming here if you have any sort of dietary restriction. When a member of our party couldn't eat dairy, there were basically no options; the waitress told us there were zero pasta entrees that could be made without dairy, just maybe plain pasta with olive oil. On a precious visit when one of us was pregnant and asked about a mocktail, the waitress told us "we have juice, we could put grenadine in juice if you want." So... we won't be back. My drink while perfectly strong tasted like it was poured from a sugary pre-made mix (it arrived neon green). We have been here 10+ in the past year, and still could not recommend it more. The food is always perfect, and am always pleasantly surprised with how seasonal their menu is. The house-made bread, the calamari, and their GP chopped are all must-haves, and then we'll typically add a pizza and a main or pasta - honestly we have never gotten a bad dish. The service is always great, and it means a lot to see familiar faces each time, since that alone gives it such a communal feeling and a sense of the neighborhood. Will continue to make this a regular stop, and will always choose this as a location to bring family and friends who are visiting from out of town, as a highlight of the best of La Grange/Western Suburbs. read more
