A Rochester friend, Lauren, mentioned that Buckeye Donuts was a good breakfast and donut spot. However, I had my doubts based on its proximity to the OSU campus. I thought it was just the campus "hotspot" and perhaps its merit was unwarranted. What do college kids know anyways? Well I was wrong. Buckeye Donuts definitely deserves its 4-star rating and I am now a fan. I got a sausage egg cheese breakfast sandwich, a side of tater tots and a medium iced coffee. All for around $7.50. Pretty good value there, I can see why this place is always packed. The quality is also there. Like others have mentioned, their coffee is good! Unlike some of the precooked meats and eggs used in chain restaurants, The sausage and egg tasted like it was freshly cooked on a grill top. The tater tots also came out nice and crispy without being oily. My only regret is not getting donuts. People were buying donuts in dozens while I was there. Went here a few nights ago and received terrible service from James at the counter, who had such a piss-ass attitude. He was so rude to both of us ordering. What a cute little retro style shop. I'm a total sucker for the vintage diner bar with the red stools etc. We kind of wish we'd had a breakfast in it... but alas. Only a doughnut. I LOVE this place. My friend initially introduced me to Buckeye donuts when she had them as her wedding reception dessert. The variety and quality of the donuts are incredible. Unlike duck donuts, these have flavor but aren't overwhelming with toppings and don't get soggy. They are SO GOOD. The guy that helped me with my order was so kind and very personable. The only downfall to this place is that the location doesn't have much parking nearby. I drove around and couldn't find parking so I had to park quite far and then walk. Once while working for a radio station we did a tour around OSU's campus for a promotional video that was announcing my arrival at the station as the new MC host for events and TVU station. As a part of the tour we pit stopped here, gave them free promotion for their shop and the owners remembered me (obviously). But they always said hi every time i went in while in school there. They always asked how school was, family, etc.. They had great chicken fingers that were always FRESH, like burn your fingers HOT. Haha but i remember many good times at this location. Aside from the radio tour - i remember always going to this shop. Once it was raining so hard that my friend and I, soaking wet, tried to wait it out inside and they gave us hot coffee while we did. The rain never let up and we ran all the way to Hudson *gasp*. I remember always going here after our last project in design school, celebrating friendships here and once sitting on the curb out front kicking it with some friends before one of us moved West for graduate school. It's crazy busy on game days and Friday/Saturday nights when drunk students get donut cravings so I would avoid it during those times if possible! This was my first time going to buckeye donuts on north high street as I usually go to the one on south high! This restaurant is really really really small!! There was about 20 people in the restaurant and you couldn't move or walk anywhere!!! They had some food items like gyros and breakfast items and the fountain drinks are self serve! Good luck on finding parking your best bet is to have someone run in and place your order because there is NO parking and if you do find somewhere to park I hope you don't get towed!!! I was out visiting Ohio State University and stumbled upon Buckeye Donuts on N High Street. It's a small little donut shop on a busy road across from OSU, very close to the dorms. I got a couple dozen mixed donuts, a breakfast sandwich of bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant and a cup of coffee. The donuts are very good and tasted freshly made. We were visiting Columbus on a Christmas shopping trip and couldn't resist a drive through campus. Dan and I had both spent a bit of time at The Ohio State University (as partyers, not students) so it was a bit nostalgic for us both. Dan wanted to take me to Buckeye Donut. I went classic and ordered just a glazed donut. I wasn't disappointed, but I also wasn't impressed. It was just a donut, with a sort of chemical aftertaste that I still can't explain. Dan tried a red velvet, Buckeye, and chocolate crème and said all 3 were kind of dry. It was about 4 pm so I imagine they weren't the freshest. We paid $5.50 for 5 donuts, so the price is right. It hasn't changed much- maybe rearranged a little? It is small, clean, welcoming. There's a big display of mouthwatering donuts, and a short menu of breakfast sandwiches. I grabbed a gyro and a half dozen donuts to go. Prices are good, service is friendly and fast. The gyro was big and tasty. Plasticky tomatoes, sadly, but it is February. I will go over what I got this time: Crumb Cake: This is the must get at Buckeye Donuts. It's basically a donut covered in donut crumbs. It is a dense and sweet donut with a nice crunchy shell. Blueberry Cake: I enjoy the blueberry cake, a nice and thick cake donut with blueberry dots inside. Custard filled chocolate glazed: I hadn't had their custard filled and it had a nice pudding consistency to it. it was decently filled and was nice and soft. Chocolate filled powdered donut: The chocolate filling.... that alone made this a great donut. Also, a soft donut and a good amount of filling inside it. Lemon filled powdered donut: Lemon filling can be hard to do as it can either be too tart or too sweet, and they had the perfect mix in here. It was a great treat. Suffice to say, if I need donuts in Columbus, I always visit this place, and highly recommend you go there too!!! read more
