We tried this place STRICTLY because they carried Humble Sea and my boyfriend is a fan. I split the River tacos with my boyfriend and they were fantastic. We will be back because we camp next door and this place really is good. The portions are great also. I don't understand why some reviews complain about the price? Half tempted to leave this review because I don't want anyone to know how special this place is. Ambience, super cool with a chill vibe and the outside is covered with bistro lights, music playing and relaxing. Food: Incredible! Chips are made to order...what?! So fresh! And the salsa is perfection. We got 3 regular beef tacos and one River on the side. Not to take away from the beef tacos but the shredded chicken in the River was stupid good! We live an hour away and can't to come back and support these awesome owners again soon. Hats off! read more

The best tacos I've ever had in a fun and well decorated environment! Keep in mind that, even though the menu doesn't say it, (and it should) you'll get 2 maybe 3 tacos for whats shown. If you only want 1, just ask. And if I had to make any suggestions, it would be to keep the bathroom cleaner (they didn't change this since last review a year ago) Everytime we go it's messy and out of supplies. Nothing special. Ground beef tacos the same size as Taco Bell at 4 times the price. Tastes about the same, too. Chicken tacos are better, but still, $15.75 for 3 and not huge. Glass of wine about 4 ounces, tops. Don't even know the brand. Bartender didn't either, and he poured it! Don't know the price either. Drink prices aren't posted, and we were guests of a friend. Ordered chips and salsa didn't come until after our food was served. We would rather drive 10 miles to town and eat at Jimboy's or El Foresteror 75% less and get better tacos! read more

Just got off the River? This is your place to go. Came here because they had a patio area to bring our dog. There were misters in the patio area and water bowls for dogs. This is not authentic Mexican food, more of an American twist to it but it was delicious. I got the gorilla burrito which had white rice, black beans, shredded chicken, cheese and salsa. Came out fresh and delicious. My husband has the tacos and enjoyed the lime crema on top with the avocado. We both got the shredded chicken and agreed that it was nicely marinated. read more

The food here is fantastic!!! I ordered the Gorilla nachos and was blown away by the sheer flavor and freshness of the chicken and pinto beans. Honestly, they were the best I have had in California. I hope that coming to Coloma becomes a yearly trip and Gorilla Rock Tacos is going to be on my "must" list. The staff is so friendly and kind. As a sole diner it was fun to take in the decor while I munched on my light and crispy chips. I can't wait to be back to share the gargantuan nachos with my family and to try their tacos. Was in here awhile back & was extremely surprised @ how they updated their food! The presentation was beautiful, the taste was awesome and menu very expanded! I am a local so Gabriel knows me as Modelo Negra ( very few places carry it & chilled to perfection!) I also noticed the tables & condiments were cleaner as well. I always enjoy my meal there (I am a slow eater as my taste buds enjoy eating). Just a wonderful eating experience. Mama if in kitchen Always waves or comes out to say hello. read more

Those were the best tacos I have ever had. I am so stoked to get tacos but good ones are hard to come by. I was incredibly impressed with the kindness of the staff and how quickly we got our food. The bar is amazing with too many beers on tap to choose from. It is such a beautiful place right near the river. If you are a local make this your new go to and if you are a tourist make a detour for some life changing tacos. Luckily the weather was nice enough to sit out on the gorgeous shaded patio. Best tacos ever and at a perfectly fair price!!!! I LOVE GORILLA ROCK TACO!!!!! Special thanks to the young ginger for recommending the river tacos. I am so glad to know that Gorilla Rock Taco is still open during this tough time!! Not gonna lie, when I first heard about them I thought it was just going to be boring vegan tacos but thank god I was wrong! These tacos are AMAZING! I'm really picky with my tacos and these definitely hit the mark. They aren't too full where it just makes a mess and not too little where you leave feeling still hungry. They have that "homemade Mexican" taste to them and are just plain delicious! If you order the River Tacos and the Gorilla Tacos you can't go wrong. The staff is very friendly too and brought my food out quickly and checked us often. I got to knock it down with a cold beer and for a while it just felt like things were back to normal as I sat on their patio and enjoyed my dinner. Gorilla Rock Tacos takes its name from Gorilla Rock, a distinctive feature on river left of the South Fork of the American River. And every boater that visits Coloma to run the American should visit this locally owned and operated place. In the age of COVID,you order in front after waiting in a socially distanced line (complete with cooling misters!!). A friendly, masked person takes your order from the now-limited menu and a bit later the kitchen staff delivers your freshly made order either to go or for eating on their open air shaded back porch (more misters!). The food is California-mex, with fresh veggies, salsas, and tortillas (versus tex-mex, which is terrible). Signature dishes are the fresh river tacos, with avocado and sour cream, and the heartier gorilla tacos, with black beans, rice and all the fixings. Choose your meat, adjust your toppings, either way 3 tacos sets you back about $15 with tip, and I have to give one away every time because it's a bunch of food. Burittos are good too. I honestly haven't tried anything else. Pick your beverage from those on the register table, and don't be mad because COVID care keeps them from handing out glasses of ice water. BEST NACHOS EVER!!! Our party also loved the tacos and the hot wings!!!! Everything was great. Just visited this past weekend for a mini get away and after going white water rafting we popped in to Gorilla Tacos for some late lunch. The employees were all friendly and professional and the food was amazing!!! Amazing enough, we had to come back the next day for more. They have a lot of great beer on tap as well for the adults. I highly recommend making a stop here when you are in the Coloma area, you won't be disappointed. read more

I was in the area and stopped by when I saw the banner flag who could resist tacos? I ordered the vegetarian burrito, beef tacos, chicken tacos and the gorilla nachos! Hands-down my favorite was definitely the nachos. However all of it was very tasty. The service was amazing the staff legitimately seemed like they really enjoyed their job and they really enjoyed being there which makes a huge difference. Very polite and just a great place to be. I will definitely be returning when I'm in the area which will actually be very soon!!! read more

First time in!! Excellent beer selection and the tacos were the bomb!! We got "River" tacos and they were amazing!! Three HUGE tacos with chicken, avocado and a creamy cilantro lime slaw!! We shared our three tacos between the two of us and it was plenty while we watched a Warriors game! Katie is excellent with her beer knowledge and gave recommendations based on our likes!! Stopped by because we drove through each week working between Placerville and auburn. We were pleasantly surprised with atmosphere and renovation. It was clean and organized and looks like a nice draft selection too!! I enjoyed the Barbadoa Keto bowl and it was excellent!! My co worker had the burrito and he raced about it!! Needless to say I highly suggest swinging through or even making a day to go visit this beautiful location and sit outside and enjoy our surroundings!!! I will be back!! read more

There's not much service aside from ordering at the bar. Don't forget napkins as you walk back to your table with the buzzer. A lovely, well lit outdoor patio venue, with outdoor heaters and or fire pits available at or near some tables (bring a warm jacket if not). A nice stage and local gigs from various musicians add to the ambiance. Bathroom is a semi permanent porta pottie ladies. They also have an old camper that serves desserts. We will definitely be back and this time I'll have an extra warm jacket.

The service was great, too. Rachel was super friendly and laid back. We bought several bottles of 2019 & 2020. It's awesome to get wine that's six-seven years old at this price point. Super glad we stumbled upon this gem. We will be back for sure. Highly recommend.
