This place is legendary! You walk into the Buckeye and you're instantly thrown back into a cozy lodge from 100 years ago! The staff are top notch professionals and treat you like guests in their own home. My last visit Christy took care of us and my group had a wonderful time. The steaks are all great but I love the ribeye and the smoked brisket is special! They have a house made BBQ sauce which does great with the skinny cut onion ring hay stack. They have so many dishes to choose from and I haven't had a bad experience yet. Their potatoes side are all amazing. The scalloped potatoes are my favorite but last time I went with the mashed potatoes instead and they were creamy and delicious. Try one of their signature cocktails or have a Pliny the Elder. Had an early Wednesday night dinner at The Buckeye with my mom this week. She had the halibut special. Over sweet corn polenta, with shishito and Jimmy Nardelli peppers. I went marinated skirt steak with chimichurri, sub mash for the truffle fries. We split a Ceaser and the onion (st)rings. 3 Old Fashioneds between the two of us. Then we got the (5) beignets, each had one, and she brought home the rest. The waiter was an awesome dude, they packaged up all the leftovers for us, and we took all the time we wanted to talk and relax. We stumbled upon this gem while driving by, drawn in by the smoke coming from the chimney. A quick search showed great reviews, so we decided to give it a try--and I'm so glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious. For appetizers, we ordered the calamari and bingo oysters. The calamari was perfectly fried, and the oysters were packed with flavor--no slimy texture at all! The spinach on the oysters was balanced and didn't overpower the taste. I would definitely order them again. For entrees, we tried the filet with potatoes and spinach, ribs, brisket, and sweet potatoes. The filet was cooked exactly to preference tender and not overdone. The spinach was delicious, and the ribs were crispy with a perfectly glazed finish. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the sweet potatoes had just a hint of maple, offering flavor without being overly sweet. We all enjoyed every bite, and the service was fantastic it's a shame I didn't catch our waiter's name. If we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely stop by. read more

Make a reservation, it's pretty easy to do and will save you waiting 1.5 hours for a table. This is a fun place to come. The ambience is sort of urban Ahwahanee, fire going in the fireplace, antlers on the wall, the crowd seems to skew a bit older but is lively and relaxed. Some people were dressed up, we had sweatshirts and sneakers, it was all accommodated equally. Ask for a downstairs table if you can, upstairs is still fine but not as grand as the first level. We were split on our food satisfaction. Skirt steak, Wedge salad, Pork sandwich were all loves. Chicken wings and Filet mignon were good. Our waiters were efficient, if not especially personable. My water glass was never less than half full. The appetizers came out very quickly but it was a rather long wait for mains. The parking lot was self parking but apparently sometimes there is required valet, which seems odd as we do not live in LA. Everyone wanted to come back again. We were too full for dessert but they looked tempting and big enough to share. read more

I've come here a few times over the years, and it's usually just OK. Come for the ambiance, which is very lively, upscale, warm, classy yet not too stuffy. It's like you're in a mountain house or nice log cabin. Nice fireplace going. A bar. Although you are right off the highway. The food is a different story. Some items on the menu are good, I would say the steaks and brisket type of dishes. Others are bad. The burger was awful, soaked in grease, tasteless, also not cooked through to the level I asked for. It looked and tasted like it was fried, when the menu says it was wood-fired. The sole and string beans were awful as well, greasy, mushy, the beans had way too much string I would have choked on them. The service is good, maybe too good. Very frequent check-ins. I would suggest getting a booth if you don't want to be bothered by high traffic on the main floor. We had a table in the main area and it was annoying that people were constantly shuffling around me, even knocking my jacket down from the chair. I think it's packed in a little too tight. The prices are decent, not too high not too low. Overall, it's a nice atmosphere, but it's kind of a visit once in a while place, the food and cooking could use some improvement. read more

We came back for another birthday dinner exactly one year later and sadly both dishes we ordered were completely different than they were the year before. My fiancé had the chicken and when we came here in 2024 it was SO GOOD. Super flavorful and moist. This time it was all fat and chewy, not flavorful at all, and quite dry. The Petrale Sole last year came in a delicious white wine sauce and capers (and maybe mashed potatoes?) and this time it tasted bland and dry and was served with boring veggies. Did the chef change? We were super disappointed after having such a great experience before. They're always busy, but it was a little frustrating to sit down and wait 15 minutes before our server came over and all she had managed to ask us at that point was if we wanted water to start. In that time we were ready to order more than water but so it goes. Also not sure why they asked the occasion when we made the reservation because they don't (or at least didn't for us) do anything for the birthday. read more

I've eaten here twice now and have not been disappointed with the service, ambiance, or flavor of the food. The onions rings come in a big mound and are thinly sliced and crispy. The polenta sticks are deep fried and amazing. The tuna melts in your mouth and the dressing on the salad is so tasty. Two of my companions ordered the liver dish and said it was incredible. Others in my party ordered the ribs and steak -- delicious all around. Two of us ordered the pulled pork sandwich. I thought the fries were crispy and salted just right, the coleslaw was really good and I normally don't like coleslaw, and the sandwich itself had a great bun and the pulled pork had good flavor. I didn't have dessert this time, but the last time I came, our group ordered maybe 4-6 desserts to share among us, and I remember everything was scrumptious. I was just overstuffed this time and unable to move forward with dessert. The drinks are great. You won't be disappointed with any of the options! I had just 1 cocktail and it was all I needed. There is a paved lot and a dirt lot out front. If parking is full, which it usually is during dinner, you can park across the street. Bathrooms are clean and at least the women's restroom has an almost full length mirror. The interior of the restaurant has a classic, historical look and feel. The exterior has beautiful flowers and greenery, as well as garden lights that come on in the evening. Make a reservation! If you come i need to remind you GET/ORDER the Polenta sticks you will not regret it, unless ypur lactise i dont really know ingredients in them then take a lactose pill thats how good they are youll miss out. I had been here many times as a child with family, but it's been years. Old school kind of restaurant with a lodge vibe. Classic American tavern style place. Good service. Very attentive. Decent wine options. Ordered the oysters bingo which are oysters covered in something like a bechamel sauce, spinach, and cheese. It's rich, heavy, and tasty. What's not to like? I ordered the brick chicken, which is chicken mostly deboned and cooked under a brick to be flat with a Mexican roadside chicken seasoning. It was pretty good. The chile relleno on the side was fantastic. Grilled chile that still had a good bite and stuffed with cheese. Came with guacamole and polenta fries. We also had a further which was excellent. Juicy, fatty, classic burger with a pile of fries and aioli. Lemon pudding cake dessert was fantastic. Light, custardy, lemony. Solid place. I had a good time here. The Moscow mule was zesty and it actually came in a copper cup. The atmosphere can be loud, but this restaurant is popular. It was busy here, so it did take a little longer for the waiter to take our order or even to give me some water. The ahi tuna was quite good and very filling. But then we got a gift card from our daughter & we returned to one of our favorite restaurants in July 2025. We sat at the bar & had dinner. Jeff, the bartender, made our experience positive from the get-go. He smiled & he was pleasant & attentive not just with us but with the other customers as well. Came here after work to celebrate a friend/coworkers birthday. I reserved our dinner reservation on line from "open table" and it was so easy to set that up. I got a reminder email about my reservation and that's was really nice. We came right after work and I felt as if we were under dressed, but none of the staff made us feel like that. As soon as we walked in we got welcomed and seated immediately. We had a super nice waitress that gave us all great food recommendations. She was so patient with us. The location of the restaurant is so nice, it's almost hidden and almost a very pretty secret. Inside it's an almost completely different world. As soon as you walk in it's the bar (a bit louder and a bit more crowded) then you can go left and that's the restaurant more space and quieter. There's an upstairs part of the restaurant. This was our go-to place to have fun, celebrate birthdays, promotions, and bring business clients for over 20 years. We loved the celebrated bartender, Jeff Burkhart, and miss him. Last August, we were (there's usually 4-5 of us) celebrating a birthday and having a nice time. The waitress they had was very slow and had a bad attitude which was unusual for Buckeye. I quietly said to my friend "wow, our waitress is being bi_tchy". It was said in private to the person sitting next to me. Suddenly, the restaurant manager, Alex Tarantino, went off on us like a lunatic and asked us to leave. We tried to reason with him and he was abusive and unreasonable. His face was red and he was literally having a meltdown taking it out on us (Buckeye's 20+ year customers). We wrote to the owner and he was sympathetic and tried to placate us by giving us a $125 towards another one of his restaurants. We have spent literally thousands of dollars at Buckeye and if you've ever been there, you know $125 barely covers one dinner. We have found alternative venues since last August to bring our business. I would not consider going back there until Alex is fired and the crabby waitress is gone. Apparently she was out to get Buckeye because she supposedly filed a lawsuit against them. In summary, we do not recommend Buckeye until such time that Alex is long gone. read more

And we walk in & my family(of color) & I got seated on the top floor in the far corner... So that's how we started. My cousins came to the table and asked why are we crammed upstairs in the far corner? They've eaten here lots of times, never were seated upstairs (they are not of color) All the employees seemed really nice. However when they split our bill, they added $40 to our bill. Nope, didn't drink enough to not be able to add! Our food was good. Lamb shank was great! We'd never heard of this place before our cousins suggested it. I probably, now, know why. read more

First off let me say that I have been going to this Restaurant for most of my life and I've never had a bad meal that being said I went there with my wife,son, daughter in law and 2 Grandchildren. We had 3 adult meals and 2 children meals.between us we had 3 cocktails and a bottle of wine. I noted n the Menu that there was a 4% surcharge for what I don't know? along with that they've raised there prices again, why I don't know? Because they can? We had 2 different waiters because during the middle of our meal they switched servers on us which actually wasn't bad however the second guy was sort of unaware of what we ordered. But that is not what this is about. This is about a restaurant taking advantage of there customers because we're in Marin and they thought that because of there popularity they could charge us whatever they want. Why is there a government surcharge what is that for? Is that because of tariffs? I'm not sure. The bill was over $500 with tip so needless to say we will not be going there ever again. read more

However, the ribeye steak had a bit too much of gristle for my liking and was cooked a little more medium than medium rare. A few coworkers got the brick chicken and it tasted great. Been to this place a few times since it opened years ago. Very good when it first opened. Just went back and now just ok. Since all of the good restaurants in Marin are gone since the 70's 80s 90s, it is prob better than most. Onion rings ok, ceasar ok, pork chop ok, chicken above ok, skirt steak not ok, too thick for skirt steak which is norm tough anyway so it needs to be cut thinner and I ordered it medium and it was rare. Lemon pudding thing was very good. Service just ok, room is very nice. My guess is the 4 or 5 stars are from people that are too young to know a really good restaurant. My son and I recently stopped here on our way home from a roadtrip. We chose this place because we wanted to support something local instead of a chain, and were hoping for something better than fast food. My son wanted to eat on the road so we could get home faster, so I confirmed with the front desk that they could accomodate a to-go order before ordering. Food: My son enjoyed the coconut shrimp, but my pulled pork sandwich was definitely not worth the price. The restaurant basically just shoved a cheap bun in one container made for soup, and one scoop of saucy meat (mostly sauce) in another container made for soup. I was not provided the chips or potato salad as advertised on the menu. No napkins or utensils were provided. The "sandwich" alone was over $20 and it was mostly just a bun and sauce that tasted like vinegar. This place was an overpriced bust IMO. Ambiance: I can't speak much to the ambiance since we didn't eat in the restaurant, but in the 15 minutes we waited for our food in the lobby: (1) I overheard one staff member talking about how much weed they had smoked recently, lol and (2) a male/father patron waiting for a table with his family snobbily remarked that this was the type of place you stay/sit to eat when he saw we had ordered to go. Parking: Parking was difficult due to limited spaces (most of which were full). There is a parking lot across the street, but you must cross traffic entering the freeway to get there, and there isn't a crosswalk #deathwish. TLDR: Food wasn't that great. Not a place I recommend risking your life to eat at, but that's just my opinion. For whatever it is worth, this place did seem popular. read more

This is my 3rd time at Buckeye and my first time sitting in the bar room. We had reservations for 3 at 1215PM and was seated promptly. Our server was quick to take our orders. We ordered the onion rings to share, split pea soup, smoked beef brisket, wagyu cheeseburger, swordfish (special of the day), creme brûlée and the duck to go. The onion rings was a pile of small shaved onions with dip. It didn't seem like much but definitely filled us up. My smoked beef brisket was excellent, very soft and tender with a little fat attached. I didn't mind much, the beef was very easy to slice through and the mashed potatoes was heavenly! I would prefer to have the sauce on the side and the beef a little more cooked on the sides (the sides were red, and the middle was cooked how I liked). My hubby enjoyed his cheeseburger. Our friend enjoyed her swordfish but we were all stuffed from the onion rings that she and my hubby had to take their meals to go. Of course, the creme brûlée as I mentioned before is still our favorite and this time, it was what I remembered. It stayed in shape after we took it home and ate it hours later. We went around 3 & we checked in with the host, who then asked us if we had any reservations which we said no. The host then told us if we could eat and finish within 45 minutes, we could sit due to dinner reservations. It was also pretty empty when we got there, and still pretty early. In all my visits to a restaurant, I've never been told this which honestly left a very sour taste in our mouth. We decided to try anyways. Wish I could give this place higher ratings. We came here yesterday, had a reservation for 5:15pm, but called to say we were running late. They were able to accommodate us for 6pm, and we arrived on time for our updated reservation. So far things are looking good. The parking lot is a mess, but we were able to find parking surprisingly. Didn't see the free valet that was mentioned in the reviews. So we get to the restaurant, and they have a table waiting for us. Now this is when things go downhill. We have a party of 5 adults and 1 toddler. They decide to seat us at the table on the 2nd floor right at the staircase opening. There's like maybe 1-2 feet between the chairs and the staircase, so obviously can't risk toddler sitting by the chairs closest to the stairs. The innermost chairs are in this staircase balcony area, which appeared at first, to be safe for toddler. So we decide to seat him there. Now, he's a toddler and he wants to run around before sitting, especially as all the other adults decide to go to the bathroom first. The staircase bannister in the balcony area is spaced wide enough that toddler body can slip through the railing. This is super super super dangerous. Good thing I had caught him before he slipped his whole body through and fell (I had only taken my eyes off him for like a brief second so I could put all my stuff down). So now I am shaken up by a near accident and ask for another table. Now I understand that there are other reservations etc, but there was another table nearby same size but plated for 8 guests instead of our 6. They wouldn't seat us there. Instead, told us to give them 5 min and they had another table downstairs ready. So we go downstairs, and the 5 min end up being 30 min. Meanwhile, there were other tables that were open that could have accommodated us - and vacant for at least 1 hr. So after we finally get seated, we order our food. One couple in our party really loved the duck - I thought the duck sauce was odd tasting - not really sweet but not sour/balsamic tasting either. Oyster bingo was pretty good, but on the saltier side. Calamari was chewy... toddler usually eats this but he couldn't chew this and spat it out. On the plus side, kids menu burger was humongous and a good deal for 12$. It was husband's birthday, and per reviews, seems like they provide some candle or dessert, but this wasn't offered - no big deal, but would have been a nice touch. Service itself was really slow, so we didn't ask for dessert menu either since it was getting really late and we still had to make the one hr drive home.
