Our party of 4 went on a weeknight. Parking lot was full even before 6pm. We were not able to book a reservation ahead of time so we were told there was a 20 minute wait for a booth by the bar. We ended up waiting almost 40 minutes. As expected, the bar was loud...but at least we were able to order from the full menu. We ordered a salad, chicken wings and crispy shrimp and calamari for appetizers. Our entrees were rib eye, filet mignon, barbecue ribs, and brisket. We would have loved to try their calf liver but they were out. We had toffee cake and coconut cream pie for dessert. Service was okay considering the place was jam packed. Wait time for the food was reasonable. Taste and quality of food justified the cost. We probably would have had a better dining experience in the main dining room as there's more room and less noise. Next time, we will make sure to reserve a table ahead of time and maybe come earlier than 6pm so we won't have problem with parking. read more

Very disappointing experience, especially for my son's birthday dinner. Two of our medium-rare steaks came out well done. We were seated at a nice booth by the window, but the windowsill was dusty and covered with dead drain flies, making it obvious it had not been cleaned properly. During dinner, one fly landed on my daughter's food, and another fell into my son's drink and was moving around in it. We showed it to the drink server, who simply walked away. When we showed it to our main server, he just shrugged it off. Later, he brought out a complimentary dessert even though we had already ordered two desserts. A sincere apology and replacing the drink would have been more appropriate. We had early dinner at the bar last night. Brian was the bomb. The other bartender who has been there for years treated us like second class women. Good for him. He couldn't be bothered when we asked him for service. No eye contact. But the second his friends came in and sat next to us he was Rodney Dangerfield. Yucking it up. While on a trip in Sausalito we went to a local hangout called Buckeye Roadhouse. The restaurant itself is charming inside and crowded. We preferred to eat outside but we were told it was not available only inside. We enjoyed our meal but we were seated very close to the next party so you basically had no privacy. This place is legendary! You walk into the Buckeye and you're instantly thrown back into a cozy lodge from 100 years ago! The staff are top notch professionals and treat you like guests in their own home. My last visit Christy took care of us and my group had a wonderful time. The steaks are all great but I love the ribeye and the smoked brisket is special! They have a house made BBQ sauce which does great with the skinny cut onion ring hay stack. They have so many dishes to choose from and I haven't had a bad experience yet. Their potatoes side are all amazing. The scalloped potatoes are my favorite but last time I went with the mashed potatoes instead and they were creamy and delicious. Try one of their signature cocktails or have a Pliny the Elder. Had an early Wednesday night dinner at The Buckeye with my mom this week. She had the halibut special. Over sweet corn polenta, with shishito and Jimmy Nardelli peppers. I went marinated skirt steak with chimichurri, sub mash for the truffle fries. We split a Ceaser and the onion (st)rings. 3 Old Fashioneds between the two of us. Then we got the (5) beignets, each had one, and she brought home the rest. I've eaten here twice now and have not been disappointed with the service, ambiance, or flavor of the food. The onions rings come in a big mound and are thinly sliced and crispy. The polenta sticks are deep fried and amazing. The tuna melts in your mouth and the dressing on the salad is so tasty. Two of my companions ordered the liver dish and said it was incredible. Others in my party ordered the ribs and steak -- delicious all around. Two of us ordered the pulled pork sandwich. I thought the fries were crispy and salted just right, the coleslaw was really good and I normally don't like coleslaw, and the sandwich itself had a great bun and the pulled pork had good flavor. I didn't have dessert this time, but the last time I came, our group ordered maybe 4-6 desserts to share among us, and I remember everything was scrumptious. I was just overstuffed this time and unable to move forward with dessert. The drinks are great. You won't be disappointed with any of the options! I had just 1 cocktail and it was all I needed. There is a paved lot and a dirt lot out front. If parking is full, which it usually is during dinner, you can park across the street. Bathrooms are clean and at least the women's restroom has an almost full length mirror. The interior of the restaurant has a classic, historical look and feel. The exterior has beautiful flowers and greenery, as well as garden lights that come on in the evening. Make a reservation! In the past, I call and I am told they forget to remove the ability to order, and they make the appropriate changes to accepts orders for delivery. I called tonight at 5:00 pm, because online the delivery would not happen until 7:00 -7:30. Isabella, who answered the phone, told me to go ahead and place the order, it should be delivered sooner. We stumbled upon this gem while driving by, drawn in by the smoke coming from the chimney. A quick search showed great reviews, so we decided to give it a try--and I'm so glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious. For appetizers, we ordered the calamari and bingo oysters. The calamari was perfectly fried, and the oysters were packed with flavor--no slimy texture at all! The spinach on the oysters was balanced and didn't overpower the taste. I would definitely order them again. For entrees, we tried the filet with potatoes and spinach, ribs, brisket, and sweet potatoes. The filet was cooked exactly to preference tender and not overdone. The spinach was delicious, and the ribs were crispy with a perfectly glazed finish. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the sweet potatoes had just a hint of maple, offering flavor without being overly sweet. Make a reservation, it's pretty easy to do and will save you waiting 1.5 hours for a table. This is a fun place to come. The ambience is sort of urban Ahwahanee, fire going in the fireplace, antlers on the wall, the crowd seems to skew a bit older but is lively and relaxed. Some people were dressed up, we had sweatshirts and sneakers, it was all accommodated equally. Ask for a downstairs table if you can, upstairs is still fine but not as grand as the first level. We were split on our food satisfaction. Skirt steak, Wedge salad, Pork sandwich were all loves. Chicken wings and Filet mignon were good. Our waiters were efficient, if not especially personable. My water glass was never less than half full. The appetizers came out very quickly but it was a rather long wait for mains. The parking lot was self parking but apparently sometimes there is required valet, which seems odd as we do not live in LA. Everyone wanted to come back again. My fiancé had the chicken and when we came here in 2024 it was SO GOOD. Super flavorful and moist. This time it was all fat and chewy, not flavorful at all, and quite dry. The Petrale Sole last year came in a delicious white wine sauce and capers (and maybe mashed potatoes?) and this time it tasted bland and dry and was served with boring veggies. Did the chef change? We were super disappointed after having such a great experience before. They're always busy, but it was a little frustrating to sit down and wait 15 minutes before our server came over and all she had managed to ask us at that point was if we wanted water to start. We came here as part of our birthday weekend. Spent the morning at Muir Woods, then checked in at the Holiday Inn nearby, like three minutes away. Happened on this place on a whim, came here around 5pm on a Saturday and was able to beat the dinner crowd. It might be the way they smoke their meat or how long because when asked about the ribs, apparently the ribs are not fall of tender but more on the authentic bbq side, meaning more chewy. Not necessarily a bad thing so just inquire about the meats so it matches your expectations of what you want to eat. I appreciated the honest feedback to help me make better dinner choices. My boyfriend got the 12pz Ribeye cooked medium and it WAS DELICIOUS! Maple yams were flavorful as well. Carla our waitress really took the time to explain the dishes and checked in often, excellent service. I would definitely recommend this place for a special occasion or a dinner out with friends. The bill was just shy of $200.00 which included Oyster appetizer, table bread, brisket, ribeye, side order of the maple mashed yams , one soda and two glasses of wine plus tip, so comparable of what you'd expect from a steakhouse. I've come here a few times over the years, and it's usually just OK. Come for the ambiance, which is very lively, upscale, warm, classy yet not too stuffy. It's like you're in a mountain house or nice log cabin. Nice fireplace going. A bar. Although you are right off the highway. The food is a different story. Some items on the menu are good, I would say the steaks and brisket type of dishes. Others are bad. The burger was awful, soaked in grease, tasteless, also not cooked through to the level I asked for. It looked and tasted like it was fried, when the menu says it was wood-fired. The sole and string beans were awful as well, greasy, mushy, the beans had way too much string I would have choked on them. The service is good, maybe too good. Very frequent check-ins. I would suggest getting a booth if you don't want to be bothered by high traffic on the main floor. We had a table in the main area and it was annoying that people were constantly shuffling around me, even knocking my jacket down from the chair. I think it's packed in a little too tight. Came here after work to celebrate a friend/coworkers birthday. I reserved our dinner reservation on line from "open table" and it was so easy to set that up. I got a reminder email about my reservation and that's was really nice. We came right after work and I felt as if we were under dressed, but none of the staff made us feel like that. As soon as we walked in we got welcomed and seated immediately. We had a super nice waitress that gave us all great food recommendations. She was so patient with us. The location of the restaurant is so nice, it's almost hidden and almost a very pretty secret. Inside it's an almost completely different world. As soon as you walk in it's the bar (a bit louder and a bit more crowded) then you can go left and that's the restaurant more space and quieter. There's an upstairs part of the restaurant. But then we got a gift card from our daughter & we returned to one of our favorite restaurants in July 2025. We sat at the bar & had dinner. Jeff, the bartender, made our experience positive from the get-go. He smiled & he was pleasant & attentive not just with us but with the other customers as well. We had the baby-back ribs, corn on the cob & perfectly cooked crispy fries & awesome cocktails. All so delicious. The ambiance at the bar also lent itself to a wonderful time overall.
