Here's a sad story. They should call this place the "Morgue". If you need an empty bar to sit in and talk to yourself, here's the place for you. Very cold bartenders, never a hello or smile. The food is the same old fried everything bar food. Nothing special or worth mentioning. We ordered salads and food. Rather than bring us the salads first, we waited forever and then they brought everything all at once. The place was empty as usual and we we're the only people sitting in the bar area. All the servers were sitting together counting their cash tips and waiting to close up. It was 7:30pm? The old place was cozy and friendly, this place is not. I ordered a Patty Melt which is a hamburger with Swiss and onions on rye bread. I get all the way home and there are no onions. I call and was told they would refund my $1.99 for the lack of onions. Seriously? You gave me food I didn't order. Then I was told I would need to drive all the way back and bring the food back if I wanted a refund. Seriously poor customer service. Overall, fine food and service in a comfortable atmosphere. There's a bar with TVs around and looks like a good spot for a drink. There were more than a few barflies about which made it more of a "bar" atmosphere. I had the veggie ravioli which was ravioli with cheese. A lot of cheese. I'm not sure what the "vegetable" was as it was ravioli with cheese inside and a lot of cheese on top. The starter was a small side salad which was pretty average. Apart from all the cheese and the lack of any vegetables, the portion was modest and it tasted good. Interior is really charming in this historic, 1700s, but newly rebuilt, building. Buckeye is a great local spot. We went here for our lunch hour and enjoyed our meals. Our server, Safa, was very attentive and when we told her that while our Buffalo dip was delicious, the chips were a bit stale she was very apologetic and offered to bring us something else. I had the Turkey Bacon Avocado Sandwich and it was really big!! I split it in half and will be eating the leftovers for lunch tomorrow! read more

Caveat Emptor. Buckeye Tavarn's food has gone down in quality and quantity in the past year. I was there yesterday and ordered an Italian Sausage Sandwich. The waitress brought out a 12inch hoagie covered with peppers and onions. When I bit into it, there was NO meat. I opened up the sandwich and looked for the sausage links. There was none. Only little slivers of sausages. I asked the waitress where was the meat. She went into the kitchen and came back........ we gave you a link and a half. Wow a $14.99 sandwich with a link and a half meat. Can you afford to do that ? Eventually your penny pinching mantra will catch up to you. Even the sweet potato fries have diminished in quantity. Why should I pay royally for peppers and onion meal ? I left it without eating it. I was never asked by anyone if I wanted something else or how the situation could have been rectified. Well this regular patron is now a disgusted ex patron. I am sure management doesn't care. Bottom line is the almighty profit line. For people on a diet visit the Buckeye. Stopped in because of yelp reviews and atmosphere pictures. The restaurant was very quaint. We loved the decor/stone walls and atmosphere. They had a great menu of many choices. I had the Buckeye boneless whiskey glazed wings which were plenty of but they had a thick layer of overcooked coating with no glaze on them at all. The so called whiskey glaze was in the bottom of the basket which had absolutely no flavor. I also ordered chili. It was pretty good except pretty much room temperature/on the cool side. The cheese that came on top didn't even melt when I stirred it into the chili. I actually did like the chili but didn't enjoy or finish it because of it basically being cold. My husband had a blt chicken wrap that looked fabulous and he really really enjoyed it. So it was a Hit and a Miss. would we go again.....absolutely. The menu is large and there are way to many options to try to not go back. As for service......we as usual sat at the bar because that is where we enjoy sitting and socializing with people. As for the service on this particular day/early evening it was great but the bartender wasn't the type who had an inviting personality. She was quick to make sure your next drink was ready when your bottle or glass was getting close to being empty but there was absolutely nothing warm, fuzzy, or welcoming about her! Have been there a few times over the past year. Overall, consistent food. On this occasion I ordered the chicken quesadilla. I would rate it as just ok. Nothing special, but also not the worst I have ever had. My husband had the soup and salad combo. The soup of the day was Italian wedding soup. Again, he would rate it as ok. I'll start this with my food being fantastic! One of the best pulled pork sandwiches I've ever had. The waiter was kind, and the food arrived in an appropriate time based on how busy it was. What a great place ! Found it while looking for a 1/2 way meeting point for my friend that lives in Reading and for where I live in the Poconos. The menu offerings were a nice mixture of bar foods & other entree's. We started with the pickle fries...BEST fried pickles I've ever had! Followed up with some tasty soup & a generous side salad. First visit since rising from the ashes My wife and I stopped here for lunch. The new tavern is very pleasant and seemed quite, conversation was no problem. My wife had a burger and I had the French dip, both were very good and came with steak fries. The service from Buffy was attentive and reasonably fast. Went to this restaurant recently only to find out they do not honor gift cards. I had an old gift card from 2013 with the receipt and they said they couldn't use it. That's $50 down the drain. This is extremely poor customer service. read more

Excellent service, I had the perogies which were out of this world. There were enough to have as a whole meal. Crunchy on the outside and perfectly done on the inside. I went there because I lived in Ohio for many years and liked the name. They have a busy bar and all the tables were full. Get there early if you don't have a reservation. (This review is one part from Mothers' Day and one part from last Saturday night.) Trip one was with the whole group for Mother's Day Brunch. Why Buckeye since we live a good 30 minutes from here? I don't really know other than to say that a reservation could be made via opentable.com (more about that later) and the brunch menu had a good mix of choices. Food: B Although things were being made mass produced chafing dish style I can't complain as most offerings were very good. The Black Diamond Steak, the Yukon Gold mashed and the Eggs Benedict were stand outs but the bread filling had no flavor and the Cheese Soup had the consistency of oily congealed goo. Service: D The seating process was chaos. Everybody was getting seated at least 15-20 minutes past their reservation times and once we got inside our server was complaining non-stop about how she said the restaurant was overbooked and understaffed for the crush of people waiting outside plus the full house inside. Was it true? I don't know but there were people everywhere, everything out front as mentioned was at least 15-20 minutes behind and dirty tables getting cleaned at a glacial pace. Apparently there was "a lack of a plan as to where everyone will get seated". Even with all that going on none of chafing dishes were ever empty and the food kept coming out of the kitchen at a steady pace. Trip two was the lovely wife with her sister. Food: A The lovely wife reported that both black diamond steaks were superb temperature/flavor wise and the shared piece of cheesecake (I don't know which one as they offer several flavors) was a perfect ending. Service: B+ Aside of having to flag down their server once for a drink refill everything was solid and there was no waiting as at 5pm everything was still dead. X-Factor: F What's the X-factor? The X-factor is how this place manages their opentable.com system. Each time the host staff was notified that a reservation was made with the name and time given and each time it was noted on their screen yet after both visits I've received an email from Opentable telling me that my reservation was a no show. While it's not an end of the world deal it's still really annoying having to justify to Opentable that the reservation was indeed honored and that the same restaurant was in the wrong on the same issue not once, but twice. The Buckeye is certainly a solid choice but is it five star? Not really Is it four star? Probably but I'm going to be punitive and dock another star for having to waste time with Opentable. read more

Stopped in for dinner Tuesday night. Ample off street parking. Inside nicely decorated (fairly new) rustic exposed stone and natural colored wood. Well lit. Open bar area next to dining area. Nicely lit. A few televisions with various sports broadcasting, but not blaring loud sound. Ordered french onion soup, boyfriend got the chili. French onion was very good. Chili - unfortunately not so much. Tasted/looked scorched. Reported this to waitress who immediately addressed with the kitchen - found out later we were not the only table who complained.... Had the buffalo shrimp salad, he had the pulled pork. Salad portion was very large. Decent amount of shrimp seasoned just right. Nice large chunks of bleu cheese. Had more than enough left over for lunch the next day. Pulled pork sandwich was large with slaw. Very tender and tasty. Have daily drink specials and a large variety of draft and bottled beers - domestic and imports. Waitress was a true pro. She anticipated everything, was prompt, friendly, efficient. This place is amazing!! And especially Tuesday because they have $5 margaritas!!! Yes!! They have the best Margaritas on the rocks!! And All sorts of flavors!! My favorites are Strawberry and their Coconut ones!! Also to top it off they are very generous with there portions of food! French onions soups was so good and I had the Cajun Crab and Shrimp quesadilla and it was so delish and fulfilling!! Hubby had the Screaming Susan burger and that was excellent with a kick! Went there for the first time on Friday night. We knew they didn't take reservations and were prepared to wait. We put our names in and were told it would be about 15 minutes which was fine. We were super excited as the restaurant looked really nice inside and we had heard the "ghost stories" so we were looking forward to the whole experience. Sadly the waitress came up and told us she was going to seat us in "the other dining room" which is just an extra room they use for small events and such. NOT the same ambiance as the main room for sure. Plus if you need to use the restroom you have to walk outside and back into the main room which is inconvenient. She should have asked if we were ok not being seated in the main dining area as we would have gladly waited a bit longer for that to happen. Our waitress was delightful and our drinks were very good. Food came out too quick after our appetizers....we literally had just started eating them when our food was there. Waitress did apologize so it was nice she realize that was a negative. The social distancing boxes were checked although some members of the staff had mouth guards rather than masks, lol...Sat inside with 2 children, drink order was returned quickly, food order took about 45 minutes. Buckeye Tavern! I wish this place was near us because it would be our GO TO place! Everything about Buckeye Tavern is amazing! The decor is some of the best I have seen in a long time. Walls of stone and some of the best woodwork make Buckeye Tavern a welcoming place! The food is the best. Taste, quality and presentation are spot on! The service is top notch! The building burned some time ago and the ghostly impression left in the upstirs window will give you the chills. There is a slight smell of that burn in the lobby as you walk in. Amazing locally owned pub. Great quality food and service Cheyenne our server was so attentive to detail and gave us all differnt options and food choices. To start off it was was busy as expected for a Friday night we had a party of 3 and maybe had 2 more coming so we said we will have any table because they may not come. So when the table was ready we said they would not be joining us. So they gave our table away after waiting 40 minutes. That is why I brought I down to a 3. I ordered the black diamond quesadilla and it was very tasty. The steak was cooked at a decent temperature and there was many nice seasoning although there was it much cheese. First time My wife and I stopped in. The place was great. Very impressive decor. The menu is long but mostly bar food with a few entries. The boss had the Rubin, that comes with homemade chips which she said was excellent. I had a Patty Melt, medium rare that was cooked perfectly not that "the law says we have to burn the hell out of it stuff. By the way, what is this $2 for fries extra. food is amazing but they need to change their Gratitude Rule .I came in with a party of 4 split check and each had to pay 15$ gratuity. I'm not a stingy one but this one got to me. Such a disappointment , I discovered this place as a DoorDash driver, it always smells so good. That's where the good ends, walked in and stood around for 5 minutes while staff just stared at us before being greeted and seated, that's the least of it. The food was by far the worst food I've ever had, I'm not one to complain, I've had bad meals and still ate em. But this food I could not get thru more than 4 bites, unseasoned chicken, waffles taste like birthday cake, and gravy on mashed was basically just thick red wine. I can't imagine how anyone could taste this food and think it's good enough to be served to humans. The broccoli was the only thing edible. Even my iced tea tasted like NyQuil . My wife had the braised beef short rib. LOOKED AMAZING, but yet another failure by the "cook" I would've appreciated the waitress asking if anything was wrong when she noticed we didn't eat but she was nice enough I guess.
