My girlfriend and I went here for the first time for both of us. Was tucked back in a narrow dining area at the end. Wasn't to thrilled with that but our waiter was very attentive and very funny. We ordered their French onion soup. Tons of onions which I loved. Only a little bit of bread, even better but the cheese melted over it was hardly there. Definitely should use more cheese and have it melting over the crock. Our main entrees were tasty. And the dessert I took home, banana fosters cheesecake was decadent. Upon leaving we definitely noticed social distancing and masks were definitely not enforced. I think it needs to be kept in the forefront of our minds that not everyone is vaccinated and many want to still be out to enjoy our local eateries and show them our support. Overall the four stars was given due to lack of cheese on the French onion soup, being in a narrow secluded room and the lack of Covid concerns. Otherwise it was ok. read more

Ordered takeout and got to the bar to pick it up minutes after receiving a message that the order was ready. The person in front if me got his order (which was actually mine) and left. I was told my order was not ready, and that sometimes the text gets out too early. I paid and waited...and waited. Ten minutes later, I asked for an update and someone was sent back to check...nothing yet. Five more minutes and the original person called because he didn't get his order. The bartender didn't apologize for his error, offer me a beverage, or ask what he could do to make things right - he just ignored me. Another server took care of my refund and apologized, but didn't ask how she could keep my business, either. If you're going to offer takeout, at least have good customer service if there's a mishap. I liked this place, but I doubt I'll spend my money there again. The food is okay, but this is the second time a takeout order was messed up, and they don't care much about fixing their service and taking responsibility for their errors. read more

Last week I tried the Buckeye tavern in Macungie for the first time. I ordered a sandwich to go. I picked it up at the bar and found they added a take-out fee of $2. It didn't make me smile but I figured I would not add a tip at that point. I left the tip section blank and put the total in the total column ($21.06). Low and behold my Credit card company a few days later lets me know my bill had been adjusted with a $20 tip added to the $21 bill. I called up Buckeye and talked to the manager who tried to convince me it had to be a mistake although she said it has happened before more than once...... My contention is someone found a convenient way to make an extra $20 on a customer who had already left the premises. Needless to say always cross out the empty tip section (especially at the Buckeye) where according to the manager, these mistakes DO happen. Apparently, the $2 takeout fee is for the added work of inserting their own generous tips. I would report them to the BBB but they aren't members. (wonder why?) We stop in here every once in a while but we have never had a bad experience. The staff is always very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. It's funny we always seem to end up at one of the same 2 tables every time but we are fine with that. Tucked in the corner and out of the way. We also have never had a bad meal. My wife appreciates that they have some gluten free options. I usually tend to find myself leaning towards the burger menu and they all have been good. The pulled pork is also really good. I recently had lunch here with a friend. It was a pleasant experience. The service was friendly, and prompt considering it was a busy time of the day. The menu has many unique choices. The food was very good. The seating is comfortable with a choice of booths or tables. We chose a booth which provided a little more privacy. It was pub style dining but not overly noisy, likely because of the high open beam ceiling. We will be back. read more

5 star tavern experience! Boom boom shrimp app was perfectly sauced but still crispy. For an app it was larger than I expected! Husband had the black Diamond steak with mashed and house salad. Large salad, great black Diamond flavor and tender steak. I had braised short ribs, mashed and green beans. OMG! Large portion, amazing flavor, seriously one of the best meals I've had in a while. Never had a bad experience here (however I'm still salty that they didn't honor my gift certificate I bough before the fire). The service was clearly short staffed but it was so clear they were doing everything they can to service everyone properly and that counts for something. Stopped on my wife's suggestion. I was pleasantly surprised by the food. My son had wings which were huge and dry without sauce. Some people like a lot of sauce I like them dry and crispy. Next time I'll be getting them. I had the chicken sandwich special with fries. The fries were a little soggy and since I am not a fry connoisseur it didn't matter a whole heal of a lot. The drinks were tasty and price was good. I would definitely recommend this place. Only downfall was the waitress was a little slow to come back for our drink order. read more

This was my first visit to Buckeye Tavern and I definitely will be returning soon!! A group of women I volunteered with at The Elephant's Trunk in Emmaus gets together once a month for dinner. I have been eating at this restaurant since we moved to Pennsylvania over 30 years ago. I never thought one order would make me write them off for good. But as I look back it wasn't one order, this was just the final one that made me call it quits. I placed an order with" Grubhub and there was no place to simple things like "dressing on side". I've had this before and did exactly what I did after hitting place order. I called them up to say I just placed an order there was no place to put notes and I had just a few before they start preparing it. I was abruptly told "We don't do that, call grubhub" I was confused and told her that I didn't think she understood it was just 3 things. "Like putting the dressing and blue cheese on the side of the cobb and no mayo on another item" she once again a little more nasty. "We don't do that call grubhub" I told her to just forget it and cancel the order. Her response was "Name" I gave it and she said "Ok" and hung up. I wanted to call grubhub to make sure I wasn't charged. It took me a few minutes to find the number I needed and called them. After giving them the info and being put on hold I was told that they called the restaurant and the order was already being prepared and they said they wouldn't Cancel it. I explained that it should have never been started. After dealing with grubhub I called the Buckeye, I never expected what grubhub next. I asked to speak to a manager and when she got on the phone the manager to me "sorry, I'll tall to her and make sure it doesn't happen again" I found that less then genuine since she never asked my name and who I spoke with. She desperately tried to rush me off the phone when she said "it's really busy here is there anything else I can do" I told her I'd like to know what she's going to about me getting an order I canceled two minutes after I ordered it and her employee told me that it would be. I told her I had it on tape would she like to hear it. She said it was really busy she would make sure it didn't happen again, could she do anything else? I said I'd just like your name at which point she hung up on me. I always try and be nice but by the end I asked if guys was Wirth losing a customer that had been coming in for over 30 years which was when asked me what I had just said before she hung up. To add insult to injury the food was cold and (which I've hated to admit over the last year) the service and food had been going downhill. But to have a manager hang up and not take responsibility for an employee and not care when I told her that I was extremely allergic to one of the items I was trying to have taken off. They have gone from one of the top restaurants in the area to just another average place that me and all the friends we used to go with won't miss. This is a tremendous looking place inside and out. The service here was equally tremendous. The bleu cheese chips were amazing, fresh, and delicious. The wings were average in my opinion. The cheeseburger club I had was good, but not remarkable. The tuna appetizer with avocado and mango was excellent. The seafood stuffed mushrooms were a little below average, as they lacked flavor. We ordered take out and the food the last 2 times was unappealing. It has gone downhill in our eyes. The burger and pulled pork used to be very good but not anymore. Went here for dinner between Christmas and New Years with my family. Has a ski lodge tavern type of ambiance with high ceilings. The place was filled with people talking loudly, which I didn't mind. Service was a bit slow, but not too bad. Food is your typical American bar food, with some Italian and Mexican dishes. Everyone I was with liked their food which had large portions. You can never go wrong at the Buckeye Tavern. The food is delicious and so are the drinks. It's usually busy, so be prepared to wait to be seated, I do not think they take reservations. I used to love Buckeye tavern but many things have changed recently. The atmosphere continues to be amazing, with a great place to sit and eat. The servers are always on point, attentive, and kind. However the food often leaves something to be desired. I've tried several things on the menu and many of them are not up to par. Over the past few times I had a soggy/fall apart patty melt that was pretty raw in the middle instead of medium. I also had potato skins that were very obviously frozen, and inedible (they used to have the best potato skins I'm not sure what changed). I've also had soupy short ribs that lacked flavor and had too much fat. I'll probably stick to appetizers and quesadillas from now on as they're pretty hard to mess up read more

Love their food but charging a take out fee when the food is already over-priced is absurd. Love going to this restaurant but to my surprise after picking up my order there is a 2.00 take out fee on top of the total. One wrap after "take out fee" was 13.99.... thats insane. Hope that fee goes to their workers as a tip because I've never seen any other restaurant change such a thing when I am literally going to pick up my food myself.
