This is the flagship Bucks in my eyes. Rustic, roomy decor with plenty of parking and right off the Freeport exit. The bar is the place to eat here. A nice roomy bar, with nice wood work and plenty of good drafts. I have written reviews on each of the other Bucks....so the food is well known as is the menu. I find their menu expansive....with plenty to offer for those that are bbq nuts....and an equal number of selections for those that want options. Service has always been solid for me here, and the staff is always friendly. Today....a quick lunch where I just had a bowl of gumbo...it was good, with grilled shrimp, sausage, and a rich sauce that was temp hot and nicely spiced. I love the burnt ends....the brisket is moist and tender.....and they have plenty of great sandwich options. A good spot.....3 1/2 stars....solid good and good value. read more

We stumbled across Bucks by sheer happenstance, being an avid BBQ freak, we had to stop in. First impression, was great, the place was clean and smelled great! We were seated promptly & greeted right away for drink orders. We ordered Fried pickles, Chili Cheese Fries and the Smoked Wings for appetizers and Shipyard Pumpkinhead, the tall ones, as they were the first of the season for us. The apps came out & looked great, the smoked wings are a must get!! the fried pickles and chili cheese fries were very good & well cooked. Here is where it turns!! The Pumpkinhead was flat! no head at all, no bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. We brought this to the waiters attention and he said "Yeah, I thought it looked a little off when I was pouring them, I tried to get a head on it, but it just wouldn't do it." I'm sorry, you 'thought' something was off, but still chose to serve us flat beer? To his defense, he did offer to take them back & replace with something else from their somewhat limited beer selection outside of mainstream choices. OK, beer disaster somewhat resolved..... The main dish comes. Two of us ordered the St. Louis ribs, a half rack. Menu stated: 'Thick cut, marbled and juicy, served up with a dry rub', I agree, there was a dry rub on the ribs and this is exactly as far as the description resembled what we received. You should be able to separate the ribs with a little pressure using a fork, I had to literally pick the ribs up & forcibly rip them apart. They were not juicy at all and very tough to eat. Adding sauce really didn't help much either. ABSOLUTELY the worst St. Louis Ribs I've ever experienced. The side of baked beans were great, if you like Bush's baked beans from a can, because this is exactly what they tasted like and the cole slaw must have been from a can as well. I am very surprised they have three locations still operating with the garbage they served us. Maybe the other locations are better, but I will never know as I will not return, 100% guarantee. First time here. Have to say, we were impressed. The food is very good. Our server was polite. Though the place was busy and she never checked in on us, but I put that to how busy it was. She was able to handle the couple of small issues we had quickly. Fair warning, the Big Buck Combo is definitely more than a 1 person dinner. The only negative for me was the chicken. It was very dry, either from being under a warmer too long or cooked too long. I lean towards the latter because food was flying out of the kitchen too fast for anything to be sitting around. We went here for my husband's birthday and waited for a half hour to be seated and then waited forever to order. Once we finally did we order d ribs and the waitress came back like 15 minutes later to tell us they were out. We decided to leave because we really only came for ribs and she acted very put out that we weren't staying. I knew what 'Naked Barbecue ' was going to be...dry rybbed smoked barbecue without all the gooey sauce that is sickish sweet and nasty..just the sweet flavor of smoked meat... Acoustics are horrible, they have those stupid flat screen televisions , its dark and hard to see at times. The prices are high. and at 1:00 pm there was more traffic at the bar then in the restaurant...not a good sign Which is why a Combination Platter was split between my Girlfriend and myself. A sausage, which was mealy and on dry side. a small bowl of 'braised greens' which means they are overcooked pan boiled Collards in chicken broth...tasted like canned...no salt pork or other grease or spices and a slice of dry mealy sausage thrown in to 'flavor ' it. Corn bread...almost right, if they laid off on the oil...it was heavy and slightly mealy. Pulled pork...meh...have had lots better at Whole Foods of all places... a smoked chicken leg...I believe they brined it..not alot of smoke or spice on it..regular grilled chicken.. the place has only been here for 2 years or so and the bathrooms are showing signs of serious wear and neglect. my girlfriend treated me as she said her friends from Texas that she brought here raved about it...either their not Texans or they were being Proper texans and lying through their teeth to be polite I won't eat here ever again...I may not have a smoker...but hell I can grill better food than this.... I have no idea the history of the so called pit master if there is one...but I highly doubt he ever trained under a real pit master The place came off as a couple of white guys who decided to open a barbecue joint because there weren't many others to compete with..... make your own read more

Just OK. We ordered to go. The twice fried fries were soggy and easily a few hours old... had the previously cold potato flavor and feel... the exact opposite of twice fried fries. Dropped in for dinner and really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. They had a pretty big menu and we all got BBQ sandwiches. Their house sauces were delicious and we ended up cutting our sandwiches into quarters so we could enjoy them all. The only downside to the meals is that fries are not a standard side and you have to pay extra. Oh well. No big deal! read more

Great bbq with very friendly service and a nice kids play area so adults with families can catch a breather. Try the fried okra, burnt ends--the fatty ends of brisket caramelized to melt-in-your-mouth perfection and any of the wings. Everything else is probably great as well but those are the favorites we have tried. Have eaten here with our three kids about 8-10 times and have not had a bad dish yet. Ooooh weeeeeeeeeeee, Buck's is one hell of a place. Like most BBQ joints, Bucks is equipped with booths and picnic style tables. Our party of 5 were seated one of the large picnic tables, pretty roomy. Our friends were raving that this place was the bomb and that their bloody mary comes with a rib in it! Hmm, piqued my curiosity and driving back from Acadia, this was a much need pit stop. There weren't many folks in the restaurants dining, so service was quick and prompt. I ordered a Jah Irie to start off with which is their take on a dark n stormy. This drink was weak. I could hardly taste the rum. It did come with a rib! But not in the drink, more like on the side. The BBQ sauces are ok, nothing that really wowed me. I ordered the take 2 plate and got the cowboy sausage and pulled pork. The pulled pork was melt in your mouth delicious. The sausage was good too, nice and crispy on the outside and went really well with their house mustard sauce. Other people ordered the ribs, the brisket, the sloppy buck which looked incredibly good and totally sloppy to eat. Everything looked good and tasted good for what its worth. Not impressed at all. The name is catchy, but that's about it. They have a very odd menu, not your typical bbq options. BBQ is available and much more such as a cuban sandwich or thai shrimp. We make regular trips (year round) from central Mass to the Boothbay Maine area. One of our mandatory stops, sometimes both ways, is Buck's Naked BBQ. Being an uprooted Texan, we love this place. One huge plus as parents was the kids play area. Everything we ordered was fresh and tasty (pulled pork sandwich, nice creamy coleslaw, tastiest crispy fried pickles, combo half rack & brisket, kids Mac & cheese). We needed a place to stop for lunch quickly on the way back from the outlets and Bucks fit the bill. The food was pretty good, but the portions could definitely have been larger. We left NOTHING on the table and we are, by no means, pigs. The table felt sticky and filthy, even though it had already been cleaned. There were quite a few staff members just hanging around at the door when we walked in and almost seemed surprised and out of sorts when we walked in the door-like they didn't know what to do. Our waitress was fantastic. I just wish I could remember her name so I could mention her. I wouldn't go in expecting a cheap lunch special because it's not going to happen. The Coleslaw reminded me of my favorite show"The Walking Dead", kinda like a Zombie Coleslaw....should have been buried days ago but there it is on the plate looking like it could turn any unsuspecting victim evening into a creature of the night, spent hugging the bowl all night in extreme agony, the Zombie Coleslaw is warm, not like the healthy fresh coleslaw that is cold and crunchy, cabbage is the cheapest raw ingredient, but Buc Naked BBq is into saving a dollar despite what we learned in our food safety course about Mayonaise and prolonged exposure to warm temperatures, there it is A sort of Bio-weaponized cabbage. "Thai Chile Wings and Half Order of Saint Louis Ribs" The jumbo wings ...well, I guess Jumbo is relative to what your expectations are.if your a midget possibly, these were small and rubbery, factory farm wings, you know the ones in the 10% broth of chemicals which I can't pronounce. Nicely stacked up like a small pile of wood, smothered in a red gooey slightly tart and fake lime flavoring, something reminiscent of the crappy high fructose Chile/Lime sauce they sell at SAMs Club. The blue cheese dressing was as warm as it was in the room plus 5 degrees, did not dare dunk my "Rubba" Wings in dat mess..nope not that brave these days. Saint Louis Ribs, ok, they are in fact very uniform looking, they remind me of an attractive looking girl, that when she smiles has rotten brown teeth. Again, this is the type of pork that would be happy to live it's last days in a McRib sandwich, at least it would make some poor slob smile, but alas, it sucked just like everything from the dirty noisy kitchen I sat across from. And the biggest disappointment was seeing my daughters Hamburger, this is a patty from my days in public school, somehow all the bad things I did to the lunch lady have been cosmically reincarnated into this con curve, plastic looking, almost ageless piece of " Farm Raised Angus" my word, I would love to meet the farmer that "raised that hamburger" and insert my foot in his.......ok PG 13. The bun was too small very shiny and looked silly, the whole mess had a large tooth pick through it, why it has this wood inserted in it, I don't know, but you could see that the wood was very disgusted as well as it felt like it had been sacrificed in vain for this abomination. The Sweet Potato fries that came with the "hockey puck" were soggy half cooked, greasy, and had some kind of brown sugar concoction on top, like if you were tripping on LSD and thought it would be genius to mix brown sugar and salt together. My daughter used the piece of wood (from the burger) to scrap the brown sugar/ salt mess off of her fries, as she winced in discomfort as she tried one. She did like the two small pickle circles on her plate. Her desert was Blueberry cheesecake, Buck you and I both know it was not made there, but she liked it, even a broken clock is on time twice a day, right? 63 bucks plus 10 for the waitress, she was nice, hell, I know it's a tough job waiting on the public, service was good, food was just terrible. We had a pretty good meal here. I'd give it a 3.5 stars if I could. We had a sampler dish...the chicken was really good, the ribs were decent, the pulled pork was good although what we received was inconsistent with some of the pork being moist, some dry, some fatty. The brisket was overcooked and very dry. The portions are very large, although the prices for the bbq meals are high. I'd rather pay a bit less and get a bit less food. 4 of us with 3 meals, one appetizer and only 2 drinks was about $100. Also, the music was very loud and we had trouble conversing. This was my first time eating here; came with my parents and siblings. My parents loved it so much when they came a couple weeks ago they brought us back with them. The Brazilian beef sandwich has quickly risen to be my dad's number one favorite sandwich. All the food was great, we tried all of the sauces and they were all wonderful and unique. This was probably the best BBQ spot I've been to in southern Maine. A few buddies and myself stopped by on a busy Friday night and only had about a 15 minute wait for a table of 6... I ordered the full rack of St. Louis ribs with fries and Mac&Cheese. These ribs were absolutely fantastic. I'm not usually a dry-rub kind of guy but I am now! The Mac&Cheese was to die for as well. I have not eaten here in a few years so I thought I would give it a try. The place is pretty large and has a nice BBQ type decor. Lots of beer on tap and a full bar it also has large kids play area which had a bunch of kids playing in. Service was very good and efficient, food was served quickly we had the smoked wings for and appetizer that were OK not great. The second time we visited, I tried the fried catfish with sweet potato fries and baked beans. Again, the lemonade was delicious as were the beans. This meal was preferred over my first (the ribs).
