We ordered the rib combo, and I have to agree with other reviews that the pork ribs were a bit dry- but the BEEF WERE AMAZING. This is usually the opposite of what is true at most places. I grew up eating BBQ in Texas, now live locally, and have eaten here a number of times over the years. Staff is courteous. This food is definitely hit and miss which I think is reflected in the reviews. The ribs are good here. Other items often taste over processed and not fresh such as sauces, dressings, bread and sides. ribs and burgers are good. The brisket is super fatty though some like this. Beans taste like canned pork n beans. Salads are massive and the steak salad is legit. This is a family friendly place, though some kids are left to their own devices in the play area from time to time. read more

Went to this place this weekend and the food was great. I just wished I could have picked my sandwich up wihtout the meat falling all over. They had 4 types of BBQ sauce to choose from. Last Saturday, I wanted to take my boyfriend shopping in Freeport. He really didn't want to go, so I told him I would take him out to lunch at Bucks. He loves BBQ, so he readily agreed to go with me. When we first walked in the door, we were struck by the eclectic decorations and atmosphere. It seemed like a very casual and down to earth restaurant. Although the hostess was a helping someone with a takeout order, she immediately greeted us and told us she would be right with us. After just a moment, we were seated at a booth right in the middle of the restaurant. To our right was a kids play area with a crooked house and to the left was the bar. As I sat down at the table, I took a look at the extensive drink menu, featuring many different specialty cocktails. My boyfriend and I both decided to get a Bloody Buck. It arrived promptly and was served in a pint glass, which definitely made us happy. It also was topped with a lemon, a lime, a pepperoncini, 3 olives, and get this, a BABY BACK RIB. Where else would you go that your Bloody Mary is served with that much food on it? The rib was tender and delicious, and it was a perfect starter for both of us. As we enjoyed our drinks, we ordered some Taquetos. They were crispy on the outside, with a creamy mango and pork filling on the inside. They were gone within seconds of arriving at the table. Next was time for the actual ordering of our food. My boyfriend wanted ribs, so he ordered the Show me Ribs, which has a 1/4 rack of baby backs, a 1/4 rack of St. Louis Style, and 3 beef ribs. It is served with cornbread and 2 side options, so he went with potato salad and a dinky salad. I ordered the Chili Rellano because it sounded good and different and for my sides I chose handcut steak fries and a dinky salad with avocado vinaigrette. I also ordered a Bucks Swamp Punch off the drink menu because it sounded delicious and my boyfriend ordered another Bloody, hold the rib since he would be getting a rib feast any minute. The drinks came promptly yet again, and they were both in pint glasses. My Swamp Punch was a delicious mixture of light rum and fruit juices, topped with a float of Myers dark rum. Though the restaurant was pretty busy, our food came up within 10 minutes of ordering. His ribs were dry rubbed, so there was no sauce on them, but there were 4 different types of BBQ sauce already on the table. I really liked the blueberry bbq sauce and the chipotle style bbq sauce, but he really liked the traditional bbq sauce. His ribs were tender and they practically fell right off the bone. The smoked flavor really came through because they weren't already smothered in sauce. My food was amazing. It was basically a stuffed poblano pepper smothered in cheese. I fell in love with my steak fries, and since I didn't need bbq sauce on my meal, I began dipping the fries in my own mixture of the blueberry and chipotle sauces. After a few minutes, we were stuffed. The waitress brought us over takeout boxes and also got us some sides of bbq sauce to take home with us. I asked what they had for dessert, and as soon as she said Sweet Potato Pie, I knew I had to have a piece. It had a caramel pecan topping and it was smothered in whipped cream. SO GOOD! Everything about this place was amazing. The service was excellent, and the manager even stopped by our table mid meal to ask how we were doing. The food was delicious and we can't wait to go back. Since we moved back to Maine after my husband's retirement, we have craved good BBQ, never finding the place that could come close to the BBQ in Texas and Colorado. We had pretty much given up trying, to the point that we bought a smoker. It takes some time learning all of the tricks to good BBQ, and sometimes you don't want to have to sit and watch the smoker for HOURS, then have the mess after. Thank God we decided to give Buck's a try!!!!! It is the ONLY place that has quenched that craving, so much so that we have returned once a week ever since our first visit! Our son requests it daily! I can't say enough about this place! It is right up there for our all time favorite BBQ, including some of the places in Texas!!! That is no easy task. First, the brisket. My favorite! Tender, nice smoke ring, good, flavorful crust. I get it every single time. The pulled pork is also fantastic! Ribs- amazing! My husband and son get the smoked wings every single time-- the way that they cook them is the secret! The smoked chicken is also great. Really, everything we have tried has been perfect! Smokey, flavorful, tender. What more could you want? How about a good selection of house made sauces? They've got that too. Stopped in for a snack and ended up eating dinner. I started with the blueberry BBQ wings and they where awesome. The wings were lightly smoked, super meaty and finished with their homemade blueberry BBQ which had hints of blueberry and chipolte, delicious. After sitting for a bit I decided to delve deeper seeing as how good my wings were. After a long look at the really big menu I choose the sliced brisket plate for dinner. It was an excellent choice. this was our first visit and last. No tables were available so we happily sat at the bar. The bartender was a super nice guy. We ordered our drinks and food. Drinks were served quickly and were tasty. While we waited, I perused the website with interest in catering as we are planning a wedding for October 2017. And we waited. and waited.... and waited. 50 minutes later still no medium well burger or mac and cheese. Hadn't even been started. I watched multiple people come in after and get served before us. We asked for our drink tab which was one beer, the bartender said dont worry about it as he knew we had waited forever, and we left without our food. HUGE portions and great prices ~ as for the wait staff: I have been there several times and not ONCE has anyone been rude or uncaring, nor have I ever felt the wait was too long for how busy they alwasy seem to be!! Placed a large take out order for a group and was extremely pleased with how the food was packed and prepped for travel. The food looked delicious, fresh and appealing but was lacking heavily in the flavor department. I had the pulled chicken sandwich, chili and corn bread. The pulled chicken was moist and cooked very well but the BBQ sauce was boring and lacked a bold and spicy flavor I was looking for from a BBQ place. Chili was great and full of meats and cumin smokiness, can't complain other than it was super filling and hearty. The corn bread was my least favorite. It just tasted weird or off. It smelled good but when I took a bite it truly tasted like plastic. I'd try this place again for sure because maybe I ordered wrong. Stopped in at 9pm on Sunday night. Slow with few customers. Staff nice and pleasant, placed order of ribs and chicken and waiter basically went to kitchen and 3 min came back with our order. Not a good sign. Means it was sitting there for a while. The ribs were very dry and when questioned the waiter said they're supposed to be and you add the sauces at the table. Problem is you can't moisten meat after it's already been cooked dry. Thought we'd give another chance earlier in day so stopped in Monday before leaving town at 1:30pm. Got seated right away and place less than half filled. Ordered appetizer and salads and sandwiches. No returning of waiter until after 40 min of which I went wandering restaurant to track him down. I'm sure they lost our order. His comment was the kitchen is behind! The place was less than half filled. Others were seated and had their order rather quick. We received our appetizer at 45 min and then our order at 60 min after seating. Absolutely no communication from the waiter or anyone during the wait time. Just simple communication would have helped. They did removed the cost of appetizer. The salad and sandwich was great, service is terrible. There major problem is lack of leadership. There is a possible host but she is rarely at the station and guests have to wait till a waiter walks by to be recognized. Am not willing to visit there again. read more

Buck's is a great place for a laid-back dinner with a fun atmosphere. My family and I have been there a few times, and we make a point to go whenever we visit Freeport. My most recent visit was this past weekend, and they have yet to disappoint. I personally love the "Fooze" selections; my mojito was adorned with a yummy rib on top. The deep-fried pickle appetizer is a wonderful starter. Our food was brought out quickly, and everything was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend the pit-roasted chicken; it was juicy, and even better with their signature sauces (which are conveniently located on the tables). I am always so happy to eat here. The pulled pork or brisket are my favorites. Come with the best sides in town collard greens, coleslaw, beans all the recommended-but the greens are my fave. Some of the barbecue sauces are too sweet for me but you add them at the table. The original barbecue sauce of Bucks is by far the best. Based on the reviews here I didn't expect much. We were staying at a hotel nearby and had our kids with us and the idea of a playhouse within the restaurant appealed to us (esp after a 2+ hour drive). We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. I got a pulled pork sandwich and my husband got a brisket sandwich, both were excellent. The kids stuck with standard chicken fingers and burgers. Which they ate all of (nearly impossible most of the time). Best dang BBQ north of the Mason-Dixon line. My review is based on one recent visit for dinner with my brother. We had a very tough day, as I was in town for the death of a close family member. We were in the mood for some good beer and great food at a place that would help take our minds off the day's events. So, my brother said with an evil grin, I'm taking you to Buck's Naked BBQ. It was a Friday night about 8:30 PM and the place was hopping. We were greeted by a smiling friendly hostess and were seated almost right away. This place is big, so even on a Friday night, you got a good chance at a table without too long of a wait. Our waitress came by, greeted us with a cheerful smile, handed us menus, explained the specials and took our beer order. (We ordered pints of the native brew of course). She came back in about 5 minutes with the welcomed frosty pints. We were still undecided as the menu was robust with all sorts of appetizers and mouth watering BBQ entrees featuring chicken, pork, beef, turkey, fish and shrimp all cooked in ways that is almost sinful. Plus the aroma of BBQ wood smoke gently hovered in the air creating a sense of wonder and anticipation. We didn't order appetizers, as we were focused on beer drinking and wanted to save room for the main event. I ordered a combo plate of pulled chicken and a half rack of (dry rub) baby back ribs and Tom ordered the BBQ half chicken. You get to pick 2 sides and the main dishes also comes with fresh baked cornbread. I did the greens and mashed for my sides. Sometime well into our second beer, out came our full plates of heaping fresh hot BBQ. I felt like a new groom, viewing his bride to be for the first time in her new wedding gown. Both my brother and I smiled and I said "wow" and he said "oh yeah". Are you getting the picture yet? To finally get to the point, my ribs were perfect, tender and tasty and the pulled chicken was the best I ever had. The greens were tasty and not overcooked and complemented the meat and mashed potatoes nicely. Tom's chicken looked delicious, and after several head nods with his eyes closed, I knew he found Nirvana. Oh yeah... the cornbread! Fresh baked and warm with just the right texture, not too gritty and full of that wonderful buttery corn flavor. They also have about 6 kinds of hot sauces and vinegars in little bottles on each of the tables. This allows you to anoint the meat to your preference if your so inclined. Me personally, I'm mucho caliente all the way. This used to be a little hole-in-the-wall a few years back, with long lines standing outside. Business was good, so the owner built this restaurant to accommodate the growing demand. The atmosphere is rustic but very comfortable. They even have a small kid's play area for families waiting to be seated! So I was craving BBQ with a friend and decided to check out this place.The waitress sat us down in these really old booth seats where your butt was almost hit on the floor. It had virtually no cushing or springs but I was starving and didn't care at the moment. We both ordered different meats so that we could share and take in the experience. The waitress was fantastic and prompt. Super attitude and great smile. When we were served the layout was very nice and plentiful. But the foods did have some contrasts as listed below. -The Beef Burnt Ends were cooked to perfection! Not to tuff and were accompanied with sautéed peppers & onions. -Chicken Wings were cooked perfectly on the outside crunchy and not overcooked. But they had little flavor and lacked salt. -Baby Back Ribs were defiantly undercooked and too pink in the middle. We ate them regardless and masked them with the sauces that were provided. -Potato Salad had a nice color from the smoked paprika but again lacked flavor. -Cole Slaw however was very good and fresh. Could have used some more mayo and a hint of lemon juice or vinegar. But defiantly yummy and recordable favorite on another visit. -Baked Beans were yummy and flavorful! But my ultimate favorites of the meal were the side dishes of sauces. One was a tangy blueberry based and the other was Jamaican Jerk Sauce. Both of these I couldn't get enough of. Nice amount of heat on the jerk. The prices were a little expensive but understandable considering being located in Freeport There are a few restaurants out there that I wouldn't consider coming back too. Who needs Superbowl Sunday when you've got a best friend and a cute waiter named Ben? Hardly anyone was here at 7 pm while the Seahawks faced off against the Broncos, so it was easy enough for me and my friend to be sat. Unfortunately, the booths are very high, and both of us are below the 5'3 mark. Despite how dead it was , we waited 15 whole minutes and we were not seen once by our waiter. We were seated right next to the hostess's spot, and she was busy chattering away with a college-aged guy and an older guy in his 40's or 50's. Annoyed, I got up and announced in my most authoritative, future-English-professor tone, "We've been here for 15 minutes and no one has even asked for our drinks yet. So I'm not sure if we'll stay here. Thought you should know." Immediately the younger guy said "I'll be right over." and that was the end of that. He came right over, took our order, and was back, clearly trying to make up for lost time. My friend enjoyed her steak and cheese sub, but I was not too impressed with my own meal. I ordered the New York steak and a quarter rack of ribs, with a smattering of fries, a tablespoon of baked beans, a generous wedge of cornbread, and two pieces of grilled toast. Well. For $23 I expected much more. Hardly any food on my plate. The steak was a little gray and was not brown at all. It looked almost as bad as the steak we were served at the doomed visit to Bugaboo Creek back in November 2013. The ribs were very good once they had a helping dollop of barbecue sauce. The cornbread was dry until it was covered with butter. For the price of the meal, I was very disappointed. At least our waiter felt bad enough about his lack of attentiveness beforehand and offered us free desserts (for each of us). The caramel molten Bundt cake was superb. It was hot, melty, rich, and topped with chopped pecans for a beautiful finish. The gluten free torte cake was a little fudgy, lukewarm, and as equally disappointing as my meat plate that I'd ordered for dinner. I honestly feel bad when I write a bad review..But felt the need to after what my friends and family had to deal with this evening..After hanging around Freeport to see my friends band play..My sister suggested we go to Grittys for supper..My friend then asked me if I liked BBQ food....I said "yes" and he suggested we go to Bucks Naked BBQ in Freeport...He said their pulled pork sandwich was really good....So we all agreed to meet there instead of Grittys. That was a big mistake!!! So we get to Bucks BBQ. We went downstairs to the lower restaurant. It has a pub-like atmosphere..... The music was a little loud as it bounces off the walls, floors and ceiling....Within 5 minutes or waitress came over to us asking how many of us there would be.... We said 10 and she came back with the menus. So far so good.....She asked us what we wanted to drink...within 10 minutes she came back with our drinks......Then everything goes down hill from here.......The waitress took orders from half of us and then never asked the other half of us what we wanted to eat.....We noticed she also asked the table next to us what they wanted......Still not asking us...10 more minutes went by when we realized she only took half our orders..So my sisters boyfriend had to pull her aside to tell her we wanted food.....She then took our oder on what we wanted........I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, the chicken corn soup and some cornbread.......About t10 minutes later...The food started coming out for half of our table.....We still haven't received our appetizers.....We also noticed the table next to us received their food.........10 minutes later....Our appetizers came out...Except my soup......So i told her.....5 minutes later...Somebody came down stairs from the kitchen to tell me they were working on my soup......5 minutes after that...The waitress came up to me and apologized I haven't gotten my soup yet.....5 minutes after that somebody brought my soup down......Everyone by that point had already eaten their appetizers........ 10 minutes later....Our food was brought out.......My pulled pork sandwich was very bland...I aded some sauce to it but that didn't really help much.......The corn that came with my food as a side was bland too...No butter and the waitress was nowhere to be found to get some....The corn bread was average but not worth $2.00. We get done eating and the waitress brings us our receipts.......Every single receipt was wrong. I told her i had the soup which was for $4.00 not the gumbo which was $5.00 and she told me I was wrong.....It says $4.00 in their menu.....(whatever) She then tells me she forgot to charge me for my soda so my bill will be more......Ok...No big deal.....So we are all going through our bills and realizing how off she was annoyed us....I honestly have no idea why people take on a job that deals with the public if you're not a people person....Im sure she's a nice person but don't think the waitress occupation is for her. Since we were all annoyed and put off by how our evening went...2 of my friends went up to one of the bartenders and told them how bad the service was.....They told them how I tolerated my soup being late, being over charged for my soup and then how the waitress argued with me about being overcharged....So the bar manager came up to all of us and said this ( word for word ) " So I heard there's a problem with your list with us and I am here to see what i can do to make it right " ....... " What can I do to make you happy?" ...... That immediately put me in a very awkward position as I'm not the type of person to tell them to "comp" my meal if that was what he was getting at..... He focussed on my soda and my soup not the fact our service was horrible......He made a comment that they were busy in which i then told him I had a little advice for them as well.......I told him It's not just the waitresses fault...I said they were really understaffed and should have known that LL Beans had a huge festival going on and should have been prepared for it.... He came up with bunch of excuses and then directed the conversation back to my side and soup....He told me he would reduce my meal by taking the cost of the soup and soda off my bill.........Now keep in mind...There were 4 other people sitting next to me pissed off on the experience we just had...He made no offer to do good by them.....That being said.....That makes 4 other people that will never eat there again.....I know I speak for my sister and her boyfriend when I say we will never go back..... I don't really feel that the bar manager is going to help the waitress with waitress skills.....I think he just wanted to tell us what we wanted to hear and probably get us out of there as he couldn't be bothered.....I don't know him personally but that is how i felt...... I came to get a quick Take out. First time in this restaurant in Freeport. I've been to a lot of BBQ places but this food was not so good. I ordered the pull pork and it was okay , I've had better. The corn nibblets had no flavor. The baked beans was a sugar fest. My husband had the half rack baby back ribs. It was just ok. If your looking for a really good BBQ place I don't think this is it.
