European food is pretty tough to come by, especially German-Hungarian, which is what this place specializes in. And that's what piqued my interest as I visited this place. The staff are very friendly - even if you've never been there before, they treat you like a long time friend - a welcome way to break the monotony of the daily grind! The waitress serving me was very thorough in explaining how the menu worked - and there was quite a lot that caught my eye, from the salads to the entree choices. Ultimately, since it was chilly, I opted for soup - a kind of pea or lentil soup, and it was pretty good. For my entree, I ordered the fish schnitzel with rice. It wasn't bad, but it seemed a bit like just regular fried fish like you'd get at a fish-and-chips place. Nothing I'd write home about, and probably not something I'd pay $22 for. Overall, I'd recommend this place if you're looking to try something different. They have a rotating menu, and there's definitely more I'd like to try out like the Hunter's Chicken and the cabbage rolls, as well as the pasta, potatoes, and salads. Stay for a quick chat with the owners or some espresso, and maybe even visit the little market-like shelves they have - I got myself a rather expensive box of chocolates - though to be fair they were filled with brandy!

Ordered cabbage rolls, green apple lemonade, and Jager schnitzel. Owner didn't seem to be in a good mood when we came, since we got there a few minutes before they were supposed to open. Food was very homely. Will remind you of your grandmother cooking for you when it's raining. Portions a little on the small side.

We came here for a late lunch (~1PM) on Saturday. Only two tables were occupied. All three lunch sets were the same price - $12.99, containing an entree, a soup/salad and a carbs option. I ordered the chicken paprikas lunch set with goulash soup and garden salad (subbed the carbs with the salad). My friend ordered the cabbage roll with goulash soup and spatzle. Usually chicken paprikas is marinated chicken thigh with spatzle but here they listed the chicken and spatzle separately. The food was delicious. Both the goulash soup and the chicken paprikas had authentic flavors, but I wish they used a bigger piece of chicken thigh. The desserts we ordered were okay - too sweet for me. My friend found a piece of mold in the chocolate dessert we had (he tasted it first then spotted it). Elizabeth (the owner) offered us a free item at the same price of the dessert. If it wasn't so far away I'd definitely be back :)

Flavors were ok. For $19 this beef goulash was way overpriced. The portion barely covered the bottom of the takeout carton (see picture). Cucumber salad was good, but nothing special. Would not go back.

I ordered beef goulash to go. I couldn't eat it. Was way too salty and the meat was tough. So disappointed.

The food and presentation has remained a solid 10 out of 10. We enjoyed 2 appetizers, 1 salad that we shared, 2 entrees 2 deserts, 2 coffee's and 1 bottle of a very nice Southern Rhone wine for a price that was at least 1/3 less the cost of their value. Lamb shanks and duck breast in a reduced cherry sauce that was perfectly prepared, presented and served. I am very particular about duck even if you can find it on a menu. It was a 12. If you miss this dining experience you lose. This is European chefing at its finest. In Parkland no less. A 3 or 4 times a year type of fine dining place. Yes, we eat out often and know our stuff.

There is an excellent selection in every course - even toting es cargot, which is not easy to find in these parts. The bread with the leftover garlic butter was heaven! We enjoyed a little of everything, sharing dishes and having plenty left over to take home! The bistro ambience was wonderful and inviting, if a little cheesy (in the best way). We will be back to try more of their menu soon! Can't wait!

Looked at the website prior to coming. It consisted of a 90's looking PDF and the words "lefse,…read morelefse, lefse, FRESH LEFSE, everyday." I was in Starwood a little early for a Dr's appointment and had an hour to wait until they opened so I went to a local park and walked around. Upon arriving the open light wasn't on. I waited 15 minutes until someone finally came out. I get out of my car and am greeted by whom I assume is the employee telling me "are you here to look" and "oh you can go in then". Glad I had permission to enter a shop that should have already been open for 20mins. As I look around the tiny closet of a shop she begins asking me "what am I looking for" I tell her lefse for sure and maybe a gift if I find the right thing. I can't say for sure but I got the vibe she thought I was stealing. This shop is so tiny she literally has merchandise on the floor for lack of space. There's no way it is ADA compliant or up to fire code. I don't find anything I like and proceed to the counter and inquire about the Lefse. She explains it comes in packs of 6 is 10.50 a pack and asks how many I want. I request 2 and then watch as she clears merchandise off of a freezer and removes prepackaged Lefse. I debate internally whether to get it or leave and get the ingredients to make. Ultimately considering the labor it takes to make I opted to buy. I get my card out and she proceeds to ask if I wanted a 3rd pack because she "doesn't do card for less than $30. If not I'll have to calculate the tax." I let her do her calculations and leave with my frozen not "fresh" lefse. In my car I look at the lefse in question to see where it came from. Some place in ND called Freddy's. Further inspection of the package and I see no indication as to when it was made or when it expires. I check their website to see what kind of markup I just took and surprisingly found it to be close to what I had just paid. Moral of the story is... if you want lefse either make it yourself or look online where you can just order it. Also maybe charge sales tax as it's the law and look into whether a wheel chair can fit inside your fire-nightmare death-trap of a closet. Oh...and update your website so as to not falsely advertise fresh food. As to the employee I cannot say she was particularly rude like many other ratings have said but she wasn't particularly nice either and I got the impression she doesn't particularly care. Uff Da, what a bad experience!

Recently stopped in here for a date night with the wife…read more We've been looking for a decent replacement ever since Tacoma lost the Rhein Haus. Since my wife is of German heritage, brats and kraut are a thing in our life. The menu here looked really good, so we stopped in our 29th anniversary. I will say, there is a parking lot across the street. For those who've been in the area for a while and remember past times, it used to be a used car lot Luckily I found an empty spot on the street right out front, so I grabbed it. But yeah, parking in this area can be tricky. Just be aware that there is the lot across the street on Puyallup Avenue, the entrance is from "Court A", which looks like an alley but is technically a road. Tacoma is fun like that. So let's talk food. We ordered the Brätzel, because my wife loves a good soft pretzel with some beer cheese. This one states that it's a beer cheese soup, and it was a bit thinner than a typical beer cheese. But it had a really good flavor. It was not gritty at all like some beer cheese can be (I'm looking at you Hops&Drops). I'm not a huge pretzel fan, but I will say that I tried a portion of it and enjoyed this one. The pretzel had a good flavor and the beer cheese soup was great. We also split the Landjäger / Käse Platte. Let's get one thing clear, this thing is bigger than it looks on the menu. There's a lot here. I'm really not sure exactly which of the four cheese were which. If you go by the description on the Käse Platte then it should be Bavaria Bleu Crème, Raclette, Emmentaler and Butterkäse. The Bleu Crème is easy to spot. The rest look similar really. But each had a unique flavor and all tasted absolutely wonderful. The cured beef and pork sausages were good, but the cheese stole the show here. We also shared the Berliner Platte for a main. Again, I can not stress this enough, there is A LOT of food here. the two of us had no chance of eating all this. This plate comes with the following sausages; Berliner Bratwurst, Smoked Cheese, Spicy Cheese, Chicken Andouille & Bockwurst as well as being served with sauerkraut and you get to pick two sides. We chose the Spätzle and Pommes (fries). All of this was amazing. The spicy sausage and the andouille were too spicy for my wife, but we knew that going in. If you have a group and are wanting to sample the many wursts here, I would highly recommend this plate. Now, let's talk service. I don't remember our server's name, but she was so great. Very friendly, very tentative, very good at her job. This was exactly the kind of service I look for when I go out to a restaurant. I don't want some tablet where I'm interacting with a faceless machine, I don't want a kiosk, I want a real person who engages with us and helps make our experience the best it can be, and this place gets it. The staff here is on point, they are good, they take good care of you and the experience made s want to come back. This place is for sure at the top of our list for German food here in Tacoma. If you have not been, you need to stop by. It's not big, it's not fancy, you'll drive right by it if you aren't paying attention. But this place is by far the perfect replacement for our missing sausage haus. We are so glad we stopped in.

As we arrived, we weren't sure if needed to seat ourselves but by the time we were about to look at a sign, a kind waitress let us know that we can seat ourselves anywhere and brought us menus. I saw that they had tables with fires which was really cool but unfortunately there were a lot of people sitting there so we just sat at the longer tables. The interior of this place is huge and bright! They have plenty of seating inside and it looks like they do outdoor seating which is dog friendly. We were told that they will have days where they have musicians playing German music and that it attracts quite a large crowd. Our waitress Sara was hilarious, personable and did a great job of taking care of us. She really made the visit all the more memorable and fun! We did order a lot: Berliner Platter with chips and spatzle, Berliner Sliders with fries and a bratzel. We did not realize just how huge the portions were for everything, like the platter was going to be big but we weren't expecting the amount of food for other order. Everything tasted absolutely amazing though! We really enjoyed everything and they do not mess around with flavors cause you taste exactly what they advertised. The house made chips were also fantastic and probably some of the best I've ever had. My boyfriend and I are excited to return and definitely will be sharing this spot to others as we thought we had to drive to Leavenworth for good German food but it is closer to home than we thought!
