Well we have seen this chain around the area and travel to Hawaii often. Thought we should finally try it in our city at their new location instead of a date night elsewhere with table service. The ladies there were very nice and prompt with their service. Couldn't imagine more efficient service from another teriyaki or fast food takeout. But that's pretty much what this is. Along with the tip as you pay that starts at 18%... not a fan of that but they held up their part of the bargain. The food was good enough but frankly way over sauced/seasoned and too rich for us to get further than halfway through a pretty small portion. Mac salad in a plate lunch does not need to be this elaborate and salty and theirs can't quite figure out if it's a slaw or Mac salad???Spicy pork was tasty but saltier than most teriyaki joints! The pork left an ounce or two of red grease in my plate. I'm not adverse to fat really but yuck. Maybe they have read the earlier negative reviews citing low flavor and ramped it up? But no room here for their extra sauces. I almost tried their loco moco as my "test" of a Hawaiian place but glad I didn't. Mine would probably be better! We are glad to see more options in Kenmore but like the new pho joint down the street, we don't see ourselves going there much or at all again. If I could give them an extra half star I would for effort but can't give a four star rating to a place I wouldn't frequent myself and mislead others. L and L is still the closest authentic plate lunch around that you'll find in our market while most of them are down south and we ate at the best one in Fed Way last weekend. read more

We were excited to try this place - heard good things from a family member who lives around the corner, the Yelp consensus is 4-5 stars, and we're AAPI, so this would usually be in our wheelhouse... except nah. There is too much creative license going on here: first of all, they serve Jasmine rice. I could stop this review right there, and I would have said enough. But I'll go on, because I'm a completist: Katsu was dry/over-fried (the chicken cutlet was invisibly thin inside the breading); the Katsu sauce was basically duck sauce with some minced garlic mixed in (it was def not Bulldog); the slaw was tasteless (chopped veg with hardly any seasoning); Mac salad was similarly bland (the primary flavor note was black pepper - and they don't use Kewpie, that's for sure); loco moco gravy was practically nonexistent, and the patty was over cooked; huli huli chicken was chopped grilled chicken that was doused in some ginger-forward brown sauce AFTER the grilling; the broccoli side was very crunchy, almost-raw broccoli with some Togarashi-type dry seasoning thrown on top... Absolutely delicious! The people here are so warm and welcoming and they are definitely the highlight of my meal, in addition to the great food of course! The Loco Moco I had was delicious and one of the best I've ever had. The gravy here is very light, which I love. I can't remember how many times I've had heavy gravy from other places and by the end of the meal, I was so tired of the taste of it. The gravy here makes me want to eat more; I do wish there was a bit more gravy though. The Coleslaw was very refreshing and complimented the meal very well. The burger was fresh and charred to perfection (although some may say it's "overcooked", but I like mine well-done and charred for the great smoky flavor). They also have a wide range of hot sauce to choose from, all made in house. Don't forget to grab a slice of pie on your way out. The coconut cream pie we had was divine. What a wonderful meal, and I would recommend this place to anyone. Keep in mind, they get busy during meal times, so do expect some wait time. read more

My absolute favorite. I love their spicy pork. It has a nice bite, chased with the mac- yum! I'll make up some extra rice at home and dump it in the take out box just to sop up the rest of that delicious sauce. I tried the fried chicken, hulihuli, spare ribs, shrimp- but I keep coming back to that spicy pork. I'm not a big fried chicken fan, but theirs is nice. It was a dream come true when they finally opened at this location. We kept an eye for so long when they were still under construction. Burke Gilman Trail is in our rotation of workout locations. So after our run, long walk or bike rides, we just can't help ourselves to stop by here for our post-exercise meal or order a takeout that we can just pick up on our way home. They close on Mondays and Tuesdays, and when they open the rest of the week, they are always so packed. We love their food so much. They consistently cook everything perfectly and it's always seasoned beautifully. Their portion is big and super filling. Truly feeds the soul. We have never ordered any dish that we don't end up loving. Recently we ordered the Spicy Sesame Chicken and Garlic Basil Fried Chicken. As someone who loves spicy food, I thought that I would love the Spicy Sesame Chicken more. While it was incredibly delicious, but the Garlic Basil immediately became a favorite for both of us. Don't let the simple look of this dish fool you, the flavors are bursting in your mouth. Both fried chicken were perfectly fried and not greasy, while the chicken inside is moist and tender. Just absolutely delicious! All around 5 stars! Our only teeny tiny wish is for this location to soon be available on the food delivery app.. for those super lazy days we just want to stay at home yet have our craving for some Buddha Bruddah. I've been driving by the place for a while and finally made the decision to stop. It was the best decision of the day. I got the chicken & beef combo. It's probably the best food I've ever eaten out of a box! The chicken and beef had great flavor and almost melted in your mouth. Sides of rice and mac were solid, and just the right size. I was highly indecisive but the woman at the front counter was very patient and friendly while I was asking questions and talking through the options with my sister. I attempted to go the "healthier" option, but I didn't feel like getting a curry dish (that's the only one listed as a lighter meal) so I ended up going with the crowd favorite, mochiko chicken, and a combo of huli huli and spicy pork. Had I known that the huli huli chicken + spicy pork combo would be doused in sauce (I assume it was the huli huli sauce, very much like teriyaki sauce) I would have asked for it on the side. Since I'm particular about charred pieces, I had a hard time eating the chicken and pork. However both were cooked really nicely, and the chicken pieces were plump and juicy. I was a huge fan of the mochiko chicken, and I would get that again in a heartbeat. They are large pieces that are light and crispy, fried to perfection. Not greasy or heavy tasting at all, and I liked it with the lime juice/fish sauce, which was one of the many sauces they had available, each in a convenient, little to-go container. The last time I had huli huli chicken was from a church group in a Hawaiian grocery store parking lot and it was sublime. The flavor, aroma, and friendly people seared in my mind like the grill marks on the chicken. So I had to try their huli huli and it's excellent although I do miss the seared skin of what I had in Hawaii. I'm sure most (white) patrons prefer the boneless version these guys do. Every piece is marinated seasoned, and flame grilled. Tender and not overcooked. I think some char flavor is lost doing it this way so I would love to see a bone-in version so I don't have to do myself (I marinate it for 3 days). One thing is for sure, this is the real deal and I can't wait to work my way through their menu. And I can't wait to see if an $8 slice of banana cream pie is worth it. read more

I've always wanted to try this Beacon Hill location, but was We ordered the family meal for 2 adults and 1 little ....which left us with leftovers for 2 additional days easily. It was good! The smokiness of the pork which wasn't too salty, super creamy Mac salad (could use a little more umph, but ok). I could do without the slaw and wished it had a little Mayo or citrus. The chicken was great! So were the egg rolls (hubby ate 3, and I got 1 grrrr), we were sad our bag was missing additional sauce, and I didn't think to ask. I would've love to have something spicy . Was intrigued to see a Hawaiian-Thai fusion restaurant and I personally think that the combination works. I ordered the fried chicken garlic basil dish and also tried the spicy sesame chicken. The fried chicken garlic basil dish tasted exactly like the crispy garlic chicken dishes you can find at Thai restaurants, but just battered with mochiko batter. It was hot and crispy so definitely good taste and texture. Looking back, I think the flavor was pretty much exactly the same and I would've preferred to just have had the Thai crispy garlic chicken so that I could get the saucy texture as well. Placed an order for pickup and it was a fast turnaround! About 15 mins. I ordered the Kalua Pork plate and the tempura shrimp. The tempura shrimp was really really good. Seasoned well and fried to perfection. Both sauces it comes with are amazing as well. The mac salad, which I got an additional side of, was nice and salty with the sweet onion finish. I like that they have a bar of sauces for you to choose from! Some are spicy, some sweet, they also have a couple vinegar ones. The kalua pork that I had was mostly fat and gristle sadly, but the meat that was edible was delicious, moist, and smoky. Just kind of a bummer that so much of it was gristle. I'd love to try it again with more meat. They also stock the Hawaiian sun nectars, which I can never find near me! Great spot to check out. read more

Both our dishes came with mac salad that was very delicious. My daughter's dish was the best though, her loco moco patty had a nice char on the outside. New restaurant to Kenmore, and glad they have joined. I ordered take out, and it was quick turn around from when I ordered to it was done, maybe 5 mins. First off, I could eat a bucket of their macaroni salad; so addicting! Had the huli chicken and Hawaiian beef combo; between these two meats, the chicken is the star. It was so juicy and the depth of flavor from the grill made me keep going back for another bite. The coleslaw was light and refreshing, but was definitely outshined by Mac salad. I also ordered the spring rolls--full of flavor, fresh, and crispy. You will definitely need some paper towels, because they soak in grease, but some of the most filling rolls I have had. The only recommendation would be to include two sweet chili sauces for the rolls, one wasn't enough. Can't wait to try some of their other items. read more

We drove by this place earlier and we're excited to stop by on the way back from our shopping at Third Place Books. First thoughts, it feels like a dive from Oahu. We ordered a combo with spicy pork and chicken, garlic shrimp, and vegetable egg rolls. We liked it all especially the egg roll. They also have a sauces station where you can get various sweet, salty, and/or spicy sauces to dip your food into. Also ordered the Thai iced tea with coconut milk, what?! I noticed something was funky a few bites in, but it still really upset my stomach. I called and they gave me a refund, which was nice, but I don't know if I will be patronizing them again. I came in with high hopes for this place, I was utterly disappointed. Everything on the menu sounds like it would be really tasty. I ordered the short ribs and crispy chicken plates. The ingredients did not taste fresh at all. The short ribs were incredibly fatty with almost no eatable meat. The cole slaw salad tasted like it had been in the fridge for a week. Has my first meal from here as takeout while still staying home during the pandemic. Setting aside that it was takeout, the food was sooooooo ono! The machiko chicken hit the spot being perfectly cooked, not dry, and packed with flavor. I'll also give props for their kalua pork (even though it's not quite as good as mine, of course ;)). I opted instead for the fried garlic & basil chicken plate that came with two scoops of rice, mac salad, and slaw.
