I certainly have visited my share of unique eateries and this one falls in that classification. You walk into an antique store that certainly takes you back in time with all the nostalgic items and then you go upstairs where you can enjoy great food and drinks. You have your option of sitting inside or outside - if its nice out the deck is recommended. Very friendly and welcoming staff take great care of their customers. Food portions are large and tasty. Very good! I stopped here for a break during a long drive and it was a great stop for both myself and my dog. The staff are great and I'm a big fan of anyplace that accommodates dogs. As for the food, I went with the moonshine BBQ chicken and I would totally recommend it. I'd love to go back and explore more of the town and the canal. read more

Such an eclectic place just off the C&O Towpath! I stopped by after cycling from Brunswick on the C&O and this place is so outrageously good. Service: The first floor is the retail section. I asked the kind lady up front if I could store my bike nearer the building because I didn't have a lock. She said I could, which was a big plus and peace of mind. The waitress (Meghan) was attentive and timely with all I needed: From ordering, to clearing finished dishes, to refilling drinks, to asking and delivering take-home boxes and then with the check. Super great ambiance and people at this place Food: Amazing! Some of the best chicken wings I've had in my life. The mac and cheese was on point as well, cheese lathered and baked. Out of this world. I would dock half a star for the chips and dip, since the dip was pretty mild. It would be a step up if they just sprinkled in some chili flakes to up the heat somewhat. Ugh. I'm so torn. I love so much about this place (the antiques, the decor, the people, the drinks...) but I just did not like the food. It says a lot for me if I don't want to take the leftovers home (and we had a lot), but I didn't want to keep eating it. Everything looked great in the menu, but just didn't measure up. The strawberry salad was overwhelmingly bacon-flavored, which kept it from feeling light and refreshing. The Mac and cheese was the most non-saucy mac and cheese I've ever had; it felt like a sheet of baked cheese on top of plain macaroni. This place is Amazing! Dog Friendly doesn't even begin to describe how Welcoming Buddylou's is to your fur babies! Water bowls for your pup plus the fur babies get their own menu!! We had one of each for our pups. Salmon ,chicken livers and a burger. The other pup preferred rice with veggies and a burger! They licked their plates clean. The hubby and I ordered the crabmeat fries with garlic aïoli. If I could have taken a bath in that plate I would have. We both ordered the pickled brine fried chicken sandwich it was so so moist and also very yummy. While on a 5 hour car ride to Western Pennsylvania to do some backpacking we needed to stop for lunch in Western Maryland. Western Maryland of course is not a very populated area and great restaurants are few and far between. We knew we would be in the Hancock, Maryland area and started searching on Yelp. There are several places in Hancock to choose from, and the best seemed to be this place, but there were some serious issues with slow or poor service according to some of the reviews. Luckily we did not experience this at all. We arrived about 11:30 on a Friday morning and were quickly seated in the outdoor dining area which was very nice and looks over the Chesapeake and Ohio canal and the rail trail that has been converted for bikes. The menu was not extensive but it was certainly enough for most people and there are several specials. Three of us opted for the chicken club and one went for the barbecue sandwich. All of the food was well-presented, and tasted great. Our server Beth did a wonderful job and kept our drinks filled and was always checking on us to make sure we were happy. My rating system is three stars for restaurants to which I would return, four stars for restaurants at which I would like to be a regular, and five stars for restaurants to which I would drive out of my way. This restaurant is a solid four star in my book and I wish we had a similar venue where I live. read more

On the fourth of July, we stopped at Buddy Lou's (Buddy and Lou where the owner's dogs) for a late lunch. We were seated on the back deck, but I thought we'd be forgotten about if we were away from everyone inside. Didn't happen at this little kitschy restaurant. Anyway, this place is an antique shop on the bottom level, restaurant in the middle, and the top floor is a more modern shop, which I'm not even sure how to describe (they sell poo-pourri!). We mainly went there to eat, so that's what we did. I ordered the Dirtwolf Double IPA to start, and we also got some water in waxed paper cups. I thought the paper cups were a little wasteful, but whatever. We ordered some hot chicken wings to start, and they were very good. The sauce was definitely buffalo, but some thing about it made it taste better. Maybe because we weren't camping anymore. For our meal, I ordered the pork belly sandwich which was like a BLT with arugula instead of L, and with a nice juicy slice of pork belly in there too. Yum! I subbed an order of the apple jalapeno slaw, which wasn't spicy, and they gave me roughly a cup of. In my picture, the wetnap is for scale. The dressing on the slaw is a little heavy for me, but tastes very good. My wife got the Buddy Burger I can't remember the toppings, but it was a very good burger. Sandwiches come with pork rinds and housemade chips. I didn't get pork rinds, so I asked for some and got them. Winning! After dinner, we waited a bit for the staff to bring the check, but when they did, they informed us that we pay up front, so we walked through both the top and lower stores. The lower one had actual antiques, but I didn't see anything too special. The upper floor sold the Buddylou boa, which, if you notice, the curtains are made from shirt sleeves. Apparently the backs of the shirts were used for rags or something, and the boa is what's left. They also want to be on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, but I don't think they are really any of those. The food there is remarkably good (thanks Yelp) and it's a very unique place. Highly recommended if you're in the area, or even down in Berkeley Springs. read more

Our group of 19 motorcycle riders spent a long day on the road driving and visiting places and then driving through severe storms for the last hour. we were beaten, soaked and tired as we arrived late for our reservation. The staff at Buddy Lou's was incredible. They helped us get comfortable, and immediately helped us have a great time. Amber and Paul were a fantastic team. They were fun, patient, very helpful making dinner choices. The entire staff did an excellent job serving and hosting us. They have an extensive menu and the food was great, every dish! For an appetizer we got the fried green tomato's, when they came out we were shocked by how small it was, 4 pieces of tomato the size of a quarter for 11 bucks? On a trip from Washington DC to Columbus we stopped for lunch. I ordered a delicious burger and scrumptious Mac and cheese. We had to wait for the mac and cheese to bake but it was worth it. Generous side dish for $3. Sweet tea topped it off. My Mister has the fish and chips which he declared as average. Not particularly crispy crust or flakey fish. He had to ask for malted vinegar. She also never asked if he wanted a refill for his drink. Pretty good service for a Monday afternoon overall. I would go again, but the Mister would try something else. Having been to the restaurant twice (one time prior to my Yelping day's), I can say with certainty that the food is absolutely splendid! I've had the burger (today), a salad, wings, and their fries, and all of them are excellent. Truly, one cannot go wrong here. I went with my uncle, who is a through and through vegan, and even he found a scrumptious meal to devour; furthermore, the chefs and waitresses worked with him and were easygoing to accommodate for him. Stopped here on a Friday night for a late dinner. I had no idea this place existed until I saw a couple people post about it over time and decided to throw it out as an idea. We ordered loaded fries which were honestly MASSIVE and could have fed a family. We forged ourselves on those for a good time while sitting on the porch which was very nice. Not to mention downstairs is an antique shop which would be cool to have found something to buy as well. For the meal since the fries were so large- I went with the salmon salad. It was also incredibly large that it was almost overwhelming. The salmon was very tasty and the other salad toppings were good as well. The faces are friendly, the food is good and the merchandise is unique. I feel like I step back in time when I'm shopping upstairs/downstairs--in a good way. Such a warm, comforting feeling. If you go for the food, at least three stand-outs are the cream of crab soup, fried chicken sandwich, burger and crab cake. I'm picky about cream of crab soup, because mine is amazing, but theirs is legit: right amount of Old Bay (yes, real Old Bay) and creaminess. There can ALWAYS be more crab, so I won't hold that against them. Was happy with the chicken sandwich because it was perfectly crisp and had the right amount of salt. I like that the toppings didn't smother the chicken breast, as I appreciate tasting the chicken itself. Was there another time and jonesing for fried green tomatoes, but alas, they were out. TL;DR: poor service and bad food, and quite expensive. Would not recommend. Locals don't dine here because they know it's terrible Unfortunately had an extremely unsatisfactory meal at Buddy Lou's. We came while riding the C&O canal trail and this establishment came highly recommended on both Yelp and Google maps. My first impression was already negative. I asked to charge my bike battery on the patio and the hostess said it was prohibited. Despite this interaction, we opted to eat here anyways. Big mistake. After I'd plugged my bike in elsewhere, we went back in and were told it would be a 10 minute wait because "there's only one chef and he doesn't want to seat any more people". Weird. For appetizers, we ordered chips and salsa. The store bought chips were good, but the salsa left a bit to be desired. My partner ordered the fried calamari which he said was acceptable. For entrees, I ordered the double-patty cheeseburger medium rare with a side of fries. The burger came as a single patty cooked medium well to well done. The fries were almost charred on the outside but soggy on the inside. My partner and his mom both got the crab cakes which looked inedible and were full of filler. Their fries were likewise charred and soggy. For drinks, I got two cups of coffee both of which were extremely weak. I asked the waitress for room for milk, but was given a completely full glass of black coffee with a small side of creamer. The bill for our meal with tip for our server who was fine came to $106, which is absurd for the poor quality of the food. In retrospect it was very expensive and poor tasting When we foolishly tried to get an ice cream, we went downstairs to the ice cream counter which was completely vacant. The woman behind the counter greeted us, then disappeared. By the time we'd chosen which ice cream we wanted, there was no one to be seen. We decided to leave and right before we left the store, the woman popped out again and asked if there was "anything I can help you with?" I was so fed up that we just left. In sum, I cannot recommend AGAINST this place enough EDIT: we stopped by a local business and spoke someone there, who said that Buddy Lou's only caters to out-of-towners because all the locals know it's a bad restaurant. It wasnt too crowded at 130 on a Monday. Took us 10 mins to get seated and we had to ask for refills. Food: 4 stars Duck salad : duck was kind of chewy but not bad. Salad was a good portion of food. 3 star salad was overpriced at $17 Fish and fries 4 stars as the breading reminded me of funnel cake and was on point but be aware the fries may be soggy. Good/large portion size. Get this if you're coming. Burger and chips 4 stars the chips were crunchy and fresh. Crab sandwich $16 with Brussel sprouts 4.50 up charge. Was ok. Fresh crab was good but didnt have substance or crunch. Brussel sprout bacon and apple was delicious. Get this for a semi healthy side. Ambiance: 3 antique smelling inside and lovely outside seating options. They broadcast a radio station here. Fun to see all the antique decor but there are flies buzzing around. Stopped by to have a meal here on Sunday, August 9. Ate outside with my wife, due to the pandemic. Server was attentive and wore a mask. Crab fries very good. Crabcake sandwich very good although bun fair. My wife had the chicken wings seasoned with old Bay and Thai chili. The wings were excellent. Probably the best wings we've had anywhere. We finished the meal with soft serve ice cream which was OK but not that great. Soft serve was not very flavorful. Overall a very pleasant experience in a very enjoyable atmosphere. This is a charming restaurant. The cream of crab was delicious, but not as thick as most cream of crab. My husband enjoyed the special fish & chips which came with a large piece of haddock. I got the chicken panini & upgraded to the fries very tasty. If you are stopping by for the antiques you will be disappointed. The restaurant is the main attraction with a few antiques in the basement. The restaurant is decorated with cute antique decor & old pictures of the area on the table. Prices are on point for the quality of the food, but could be considered high for the area. Great place for a date night. I enjoyed my Simon BLT with a side salad. The fried green tomato was a bit small so in relation to a traditional BLT it was a bit lacking. The salmon was cooked well and it wasnt over dressed. The aioli was good a definitely brightened the sandwich. Cute atmosphere, they had the soccer game on which was a plus. A fellow guest felt the biscuits & gravy were bland, like a can of cream of mushroom. The other guests at our table got the hollandaise eggs and the other shrimp & grits. Both liked and felt were seasoned well. The only disappoint I found was that a glass of milk was $3.90, basically the cost of a gallon. Being from Buffalo, the Buffalo style wings are all that!!!!! Pretty comparable w some of the great wings in Buffalo, NY

1. "Limited" Menu is not the same price as online. 2. Wanted to substitute my meal fries with crab fries and they said no because they were to busy. 3. No ranch dressing 4. Chicken sandwich was flavorless. 5. Crab cake sandwich was mediocre. 6. Mac and cheese not recommended. 7. Pulled pork was a bit bland. Two stars for atmosphere. Normally I'd like to give Buddy's 5 stars but our last visit had a couple issues. On the positive side, most of our food was very good. Two of us had the Buddy's Burgers which were hand made and they let you build and substitute to make it "your way". The accompanying baked beans were OK, likely out of the can. One of us had the Santa Fe salad with chicken and it was outstanding and enough for a couple meals. The loss of a star was due to the Potato pancakes which is one of the items we went there for (as well as the unique atmosphere and great service. Unfortunately our server forgot to put the order in which she did profusely apologize for. When they did come (after we got our other food) we were very disappointed. I know there are lots of variations of Potato Pancakes, however these were basically your shortcut version, made out of leftover mashed potatoes, grilled with some toppings. Definitely not what we remembered from the past. (Great Potato Pancakes should be made with shredded fresh potatoes, at least in my personal opinion). Overall, I would highly recommend eating at Buddy's Lou's. The combined flea market basement, indoor and outdoor seating, unique drinks (including adult milkshakes), reasonably priced and very good food and pet friendly makes this a "must visit" restaurant in Hancock. read more

The food was excellent! We got the cherry BBQ sandwich and it exceeded our expectations. The BBQ came with beans, Mac and cheese, and cole slaw. It was a lot of food and I took some of the Mac and cheese home. The Mac and cheese was bloody amazing. This place also is so quirky and cute!!! We came for the food but was happily overwhelmed by the decor and all the antiques for sale. Would highly recommend this place for cool vibes and bangin' food.
