I really enjoyed my meal at Calhouns on the river. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you come here, you need to sit on the deck. There are shaded and sunny deck areas.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was as expected. My chicken tender meal was good but [[HIGHLIGHT]]the best part was sitting on the water and watching someone catch big fish.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Will definitely be back if I am ever in the area again.

Calhoun's is a good BQQ and ribs restaurant in a great location on the river. It is casual and relaxed, but nice. We decided to eat at Calhoun's before a UT basketball game. The wait was 45 minutes, but we were able to grab a couple of bar seats pretty quickly. We ordered the Bacon-Wrapped Brisket Burnt Ends as an appetizer. It had really good flavor, but the meat was a little dry. I'd give this a 8/10 rating. For the meal, we spilt the Calhoun's Trio, which had ribs, pork BBQ , fried chicken strips and tater tots. The ribs were really good (8/10). The pork BBQ was good (7/10). The fried chicken strips were cooked well, but didn't have a lot of flavor (6/10). The tater tots were really good and perfectly crispy (8/10). Calhoun's has a full bar and local beer on tap from Smoky Mountain Brewing.

We had a great experience visiting Calhoun's. A lot of the enjoyment came from having a fantastic server. She is one of the managers but was serving when we visited. She was delightful and brought a lot of fantastic energy. I had the oriental chicken salad, which was delicious. My husband ordered the catfish and spinach Maria, which he really enjoyed as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Excellent service, excellent food, and an incredible view of the Tennessee river![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had the Rocky Top potato skins as an appetizer, and they were incredible!

I don't leave many negative reviews, but this one just couldn't be ignored. This particular Calhoun's gets a ton of business because of proximity to campus, and it seems they really just don't care because they know they'll get fans coming in. A friend and I were going to a game awhile back and decided to grab dinner here beforehand. We got a booth in the bar area and placed our orders pretty quickly. I chose the cheeseburger and fries, while my friend selected the chicken tenders. It took ages for our food to arrive, and then my burger had no toppings (lettuce, tomato, onions, pickle, etc) - just a squirt of ketchup. Not even any fries. There was no real remedy to the situation because we couldn't find our server. Because of time constraints, we just ate as is. And then it took awhile to get our check and pay. I'll avoid this place as much as I can. Maybe just for drinks prior to a game next time?

My maybe and 2-star rating is for the food. It was not good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, the view is amazing on the river.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would say stop and enjoy the view and a beer but the beer was barely cold. I got the fish and chips. Barely any fish - mostly breading. The flavor was ok but would not order again because - well, no fish! My husband got the ribs because well, we are in TN and supposedly Calhoun's has great ribs, despite all the poor reviews about their ribs. Well - he didn't like the ribs either and said they were super dry. He coated them in sauce but dry ribs are dry ribs.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]We had such a lovely time at Calhoun's on the River.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a perfect day to sit on the deck and enjoy the views and weather.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu for the deck is more limited than inside the restaurant, but we still got some amazing food items. We enjoyed the spinach artichoke dip, bacon wrapped beef brisket burnt ends, and wings tossed in the sweet and spicy thunder road sauce. Everything was delicious! Our server was quick and friendly. Would absolutely recommend!

Fantastic location near downtown Knoxville on the River. We were greeted immediately by the host and even quicker by our super friendly server. It was a cold non game day so we had a great seat indoors overlooking the water but we were told come game days there could be a several hour wait and that their parking lot is rented out so please keep that in mind. I have the Veggie Burger and it was delicious- they took a different spin with Monterey Jack, Avocado and their own aioli and it was a nice change! (My thanks to the chef) I've been a vegetarian just over 8 years and this meal sat well with me which means the kitchen does a great job with eliminating cross contamination- it's so nice when that's the case! Husband had their house wings and said they were some of the best they have had! We will definitely be back when we are in town again!

Is a reservation required for dine in?

No, we were able to walk on a Saturday night and get a table right away. Maybe only if you have a larger group.

They get busy fast, and they won't seat your party until everyone has arrived, so make sure your whole group is there. We had a party of five and started with an order of the fried pickles to share. They were absolutely delicious--crispy, flavorful, and gone within minutes. For drinks, I ordered the Darryl Strawberry since it featured bourbon, and I figured I had to enjoy a bourbon cocktail while in Tennessee. It was surprisingly refreshing, balanced, and so good that I ordered a second one. For my meal, I went with the Classic Bacon Burger, and it was exactly what I was hoping for. It was big, juicy, and loaded with the perfect amount of cheese, tomato, bacon, and pickles. Every bite was delicious. Considering how packed the restaurant was, the service was solid. Our waitress had a great sense of humor and joked around with our table, which made the experience even more fun. Since they were so busy, we didn't see her constantly, but she was friendly and took good care of us whenever she stopped by. If you're looking for a great burger and a fun atmosphere, this spot is definitely worth checking out!

After last night I'm not sure if we will ever return. We were seated outside at a table that was right in front of the in and out doors. We waited almost 15 minutes before someone came to wait on this. Honestly this would have been longer if my husband hadn't gone in to ask about a server for our table. Mind you, there were plenty of servers walking to help the other tables around us as we were waiting. Finally a server walked up, her name started with an A, and she was very flippant with helping us. I ordered a beer and my husband ordered water and son ordered a soda. We also went on and ordered since we had no idea when she would return for our order. She brought the water and soda but no beer and then we didn't see her (at our table) until our food came out. My beer came out with the food, a good 10 minutes after I ordered it. I know you may be thinking that the bar was backed up but her other table (that arrived after) got their drinks right away and also a 2nd order of drinks before I received my beer. She never came to check on us with our food and spent more time at the table that arrived with her friends. Her attitude and personality was vastly different with our table versus her friend's table. When it came time to get us our check. I saw her roll her eyes and walked towards us. I let it slide instead of calling her out on her actions as I just wanted to leave. We paid our check and left. I truly feel like this will be our last time here because of the service we received. We have many friends who travel to Knoxville for various sporting events (since I'm in that industry) and I always recommend Stock and Barrel. After last night, I'll be recommending some other place.

The calendar is on the web page. But why chase bad BBQ. This wood pellet (Traeger) grill smoked BBQ is dry. The smoke flavor is light to the point of being almost non-existent. The rub is okay, but when a brisket is this dry it's just not worth eating. The other meats are okay. The pork is probably the best thing, and it's just good not great. The ribs were okay too. The sides are about the only reason this has two stars instead of one. The mac and cheese is tasty and well made. The beans are good. Look, I don't write any reviews less than three stars and few less than four stars unless I have visited a place multiple times. Any place can have an off day, and I hate giving lower reviews to small businesses. But this is just NOT good BBQ. And, yes, I know a bit about BBQ, with deep roots in Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, and Italy. I've cooked many briskets. Many. With wood. Cooked many pork butts and ribs. Tons. And so has my family (I have two relatives in the Dallas area who cater BBQ). So, this is not an area where I have no experience. Oh, and don't snicker at Italy in the list. How did your whole goat cooked in a dirt pit turn out? How about that whole pig you cooked? Yeah. Thought so. Sorry, Lloyd's. This is not great stuff. Dang. I wish it were.

I especially want to try the pork belly bites, but those are only on Fridays. I ordered the most popular dish, the gomer. I asked what the freshest meat was because the reviews varied. Many stated that there was a lot of dry meats, others report tender and perfect. My suggestion if you don't want to be disappointed is to ask what is the freshest for that moment in time. Pork was it today and it was delicious. I think next time I would rather get the meat plate as all the sides piled onto the pork was a bit over the top for me. I wanted to taste each item they have separately, but it was challenging being piled together. But that is what I get for picking the popular item and not what I think I would enjoy more. Gomer was $12. I see the cost has gone from $10, then $11 and now $12. I would not be willing to pay more than $12 but I understand the cost of food has gone up. Curious why the nacho is $16. If I understand correctly it is just the gomer with chips and cheese. I don't think that is worth $4 more. Maybe the quantity is more too??? Overall, I am happy with my first trip to Lloyd's and looking forward to pork belly bites in my future.
