Calhoun's on the River. I think I liked Calhoun's... actually, I know I did. Great day with oldest daughter Jordan and the Granddogs, Elbert & Sally. I learned that Knoxville hosted the 1982 World's Fair, so we walked around the old fairgrounds and then down to the river. Beautiful area and a perfect day to just hang out. At Calhoun's, I loved our waitress, sitting out on the deck, my blackberry margarita, and the chicken tenders with honey mustard. The bacon-wrapped burnt-end brisket was tasty too, although a little dry. Maybe that's just part of being burnt ends. Honestly, I thought most of our food leaned a little dry for me -- except those chicken tenders. Maybe in Tennessee, the barbecue sauce is supposed to do more of the heavy lifting. Either way, great food, great weather, great company, and a very good day all around.

I really enjoyed my meal at Calhouns on the river. If you come here, you need to sit on the deck. There are shaded and sunny deck areas. The service was as expected. My chicken tender meal was good but the best part was sitting on the water and watching someone catch big fish. Will definitely be back if I am ever in the area again.

Calhoun's is a good BQQ and ribs restaurant in a great location on the river. It is casual and relaxed, but nice. We decided to eat at Calhoun's before a UT basketball game. The wait was 45 minutes, but we were able to grab a couple of bar seats pretty quickly. We ordered the Bacon-Wrapped Brisket Burnt Ends as an appetizer. It had really good flavor, but the meat was a little dry. I'd give this a 8/10 rating. For the meal, we spilt the Calhoun's Trio, which had ribs, pork BBQ , fried chicken strips and tater tots. The ribs were really good (8/10). The pork BBQ was good (7/10). The fried chicken strips were cooked well, but didn't have a lot of flavor (6/10). The tater tots were really good and perfectly crispy (8/10). Calhoun's has a full bar and local beer on tap from Smoky Mountain Brewing.

I don't leave many negative reviews, but this one just couldn't be ignored. This particular Calhoun's gets a ton of business because of proximity to campus, and it seems they really just don't care because they know they'll get fans coming in. A friend and I were going to a game awhile back and decided to grab dinner here beforehand. We got a booth in the bar area and placed our orders pretty quickly. I chose the cheeseburger and fries, while my friend selected the chicken tenders. It took ages for our food to arrive, and then my burger had no toppings (lettuce, tomato, onions, pickle, etc) - just a squirt of ketchup. Not even any fries. There was no real remedy to the situation because we couldn't find our server. Because of time constraints, we just ate as is. And then it took awhile to get our check and pay. I'll avoid this place as much as I can. Maybe just for drinks prior to a game next time?

We had a great experience visiting Calhoun's. A lot of the enjoyment came from having a fantastic server. She is one of the managers but was serving when we visited. She was delightful and brought a lot of fantastic energy. I had the oriental chicken salad, which was delicious. My husband ordered the catfish and spinach Maria, which he really enjoyed as well. Excellent service, excellent food, and an incredible view of the Tennessee river! We had the Rocky Top potato skins as an appetizer, and they were incredible!

My maybe and 2-star rating is for the food. It was not good. However, the view is amazing on the river. I would say stop and enjoy the view and a beer but the beer was barely cold. I got the fish and chips. Barely any fish - mostly breading. The flavor was ok but would not order again because - well, no fish! My husband got the ribs because well, we are in TN and supposedly Calhoun's has great ribs, despite all the poor reviews about their ribs. Well - he didn't like the ribs either and said they were super dry. He coated them in sauce but dry ribs are dry ribs.

We had such a lovely time at Calhoun's on the River. It was a perfect day to sit on the deck and enjoy the views and weather. The menu for the deck is more limited than inside the restaurant, but we still got some amazing food items. We enjoyed the spinach artichoke dip, bacon wrapped beef brisket burnt ends, and wings tossed in the sweet and spicy thunder road sauce. Everything was delicious! Our server was quick and friendly. Would absolutely recommend!

Fantastic location near downtown Knoxville on the River. We were greeted immediately by the host and even quicker by our super friendly server. It was a cold non game day so we had a great seat indoors overlooking the water but we were told come game days there could be a several hour wait and that their parking lot is rented out so please keep that in mind. I have the Veggie Burger and it was delicious- they took a different spin with Monterey Jack, Avocado and their own aioli and it was a nice change! (My thanks to the chef) I've been a vegetarian just over 8 years and this meal sat well with me which means the kitchen does a great job with eliminating cross contamination- it's so nice when that's the case! Husband had their house wings and said they were some of the best they have had! We will definitely be back when we are in town again!

After last night I'm not sure if we will ever return. We were seated outside at a table that was right in front of the in and out doors. We waited almost 15 minutes before someone came to wait on this. Honestly this would have been longer if my husband hadn't gone in to ask about a server for our table. Mind you, there were plenty of servers walking to help the other tables around us as we were waiting. Finally a server walked up, her name started with an A, and she was very flippant with helping us. I ordered a beer and my husband ordered water and son ordered a soda. We also went on and ordered since we had no idea when she would return for our order. She brought the water and soda but no beer and then we didn't see her (at our table) until our food came out. My beer came out with the food, a good 10 minutes after I ordered it. I know you may be thinking that the bar was backed up but her other table (that arrived after) got their drinks right away and also a 2nd order of drinks before I received my beer. She never came to check on us with our food and spent more time at the table that arrived with her friends. Her attitude and personality was vastly different with our table versus her friend's table. When it came time to get us our check. I saw her roll her eyes and walked towards us. I let it slide instead of calling her out on her actions as I just wanted to leave. We paid our check and left. I truly feel like this will be our last time here because of the service we received. We have many friends who travel to Knoxville for various sporting events (since I'm in that industry) and I always recommend Stock and Barrel. After last night, I'll be recommending some other place.

Steamed mussels? half of it arrived cold while the other half was tepid. This is not good since these need to be piping hot! and they were weirdly in a heavy marinara sauce that overruled any seafood flavor. Grilled octopus? very disappointing mainly since I have had great octopus and this did not come close. Also came tepid....not good! Did not taste good. Caesar salad with grilled shrimp. Now the shrimp was decent but the salad was not great and the dressing seemed like it was out of a bottle like Krafts. Did not taste good either. I did not finish any of these three terrible dishes. It was very quiet becasue we were well past the lunch rush and before the early dinners. I needed something more than a salad or bowl even though several were tempting. Not always a burger guy, but a bison burger will draw my attention. You don't see bison much in TN. Delicious. Juicy enough I needed an extra napkin. The second reason I chose the burger was for the carrot fries. I don't ever remember having them before or even seeing them. Their good, no reason they can't be a replacemnt to traditional fries and they don't "sag" as much as sweet potato fries. In my case, the kitchen put potato fries on the plate rather than carrot fries. Our server, Daniel noticed it and brought out a separate plate with proper side. Great service there. Another upgrade is that seasoning on the fries. There are several different ones and they differ byt the dish and fry. It was fun to compare the difference on the plate. So, cazzy's is not at diner but a fine gastropub.
