It's heartening to see the guy behind the counter grab a steaming-hot chunk of roasted pastrami and use the slicer to guillotine off a pile of sliced lean meat to pile atop a bun. The meat is generous in quantity and is lacking in the gristle and fat of many other sandwich places. It'd been a while since the last time I ate here. Thankfully, I noted that a winter visit was much nicer, temperature-wise, in the cafeteria-style dining area. Having the noontime sun shining in the front glass of the restaurant was kind of nice. For all but the largest appetites, a half sandwich is enough for lunch. (Keep the other half for a Hobbit-style "second lunch"4 hours later!) The Best Dipped Roast Beef sandwiches. Sure do wish they were in a small shopping center they would would be packed all the time.. I used to go to them at least once a week for lunch when I work downtown near 10th Street omg their food is so good no matter what you try they're always great they have fresh roasted meat that you will just love juicy tender so worth it sandwiches are served on different types of roles and they are magnificently stacked with meat. They have daily specials which are magnificent combination plates that everyone would want to go in on their special day when they have the dish that you like. No frills or fancy decorations, cafeteria style, cafeteria trays, and school lunch lines form every weekday as the many State and local peace officers line up to partake in a feast of freshly cut meats and sandwiches. Just to name a few of there specials: Meatloaf, Lasagna, Diablo (Spicy), French dip with Au jus, Hot Pastrami, and Beef stew I use to come here when I was a kid with my Dad and grandpa and we would share a sandwich at one of there long folding tables. They have the traditional deli sandwiches as well as some new items on the menu which they change every week. The price is reasonable, but it has gone up over the years and due to the economy. You can get a Sandwich for $6.95. This place is awesome!!! I went for lunch with a friend. We were really hungry! There's a lunch line, we were waiting by the door, that's how long the line was, but the wait was worth it, it goes by fast. We just got one sandwich the roast beef on white bread with french dip and they add all the other veggies for $7.99. We also got a side of mash potatoes for $1.50. Lunch for two was less than $10. Oh man, I recently had lunch at Buds and it was everything I remembered it to be! You never know what you're missing until you work in Roseville and realize Buds is only open M-F during lunch... I even recognize the workers there! Nothing has changed, yay! The roast beef (my favorite) with the au jus is still good - but I don't recommend it for people who like their meat cooked past medium-rare. Bloody and still moo-ing is how this carnivore likes it, so I was in heaven. A bit more pepper and it would be my ultimate sandwich. We also ordered a pastrami sandwich, and that was good too - not too salty and great taste. There was a LOT of meat on both sandwiches. Macaroni salad was kind of bland, I'd recommend skipping it and ordering the mashed potatoes with a gravy-filled crater (perfect for dipping my roast beef). Since I haven't been back in 3 years, I had to get the whole sandwiches. HEAVEN, but I was about to burst after - so worth it. This is a cafeteria line for making sandwiches. But they carve that roast beef right there. Other than that its a basic sandwich with lettuce and tomato's. They even swipe the bread with the au-jus sauce... They also have daily specials with Wednesday their chopped steak and all these lunch deals with an extra $3 for a fountain drink and a side. Delicious... mmm... I want to go back today for lunch. My coworkers and I made the trek down to Bud's on Furlough Friday thinking since we had to work, we figured it might not be as busy with all the state offices nearby closed for the day. Well we got there and it was still busy, not like line wrapped around the block busy, but busy. The line moved very fast, and I ordered a roast beef with a side of gravy and mashed potatoes. Holy geebus, it was delicious. Maybe it's because I'm pregnant and craving loads of beef lately, but I'm telling you, even if I wasn't prego I would be craving that super tender and flavorful roast beef and gravy. I can't wait to try the pastrami, my coworker got one and said it was super delicious. I ended up not even being able to eat all my potots or half the sandwich, you better believe it I ate it later that night. This hole in the wall is tucked away on 10th between K and J streets, this lunchtime gem never fails to amaze me. They mostly do sandwiches with a few plates. The mashed potatoes were nice and creamy. The gravy by itself tasted a little bland, but was excellent when you put them together. The interior decor is old, and you can smell the age. Bud's is cafeteria style and the line moves quickly which is a plus when you're in a rush or have a strict timeline. Since it was an incredibly hot day (over 100 degrees, ugh), I ordered a cold sandwich "The Hero"-- ham, turkey, salami with provolone cheese and it was massive and perfect. The french bread roll is the perfect consistency and the portion of meat on the sandwich is great, much more than what you'd get at Subway or anywhere else. At $7.99, it's a good deal. I want to go back to try the hot sandwiches, because they looked amazing. My friends also ordered the mashed potatoes, which on a not-so-hot day I would have ordered for sure. They also have daily specials-- we were there on lasagna day and it looked good, too. The specials are a little more at $10.99 but considering the portion size and the prices of food at other places in the area, it's reasonable. Because whenever I come to here, I feel like I was Ryan Gosling in the movie, a starving musician trying to make it in the world and although life is unfair, full of bumps and bruises, disappointments and deluge, but at least I'm at Bud's Buffet, scarfing down a mountain of meat (that's what she said), my belly full, and my mind at ease, ready to trudge along again, like a Corgi who's just wolfed down its second bowl of kibble after its parents put it out because they forgot that it ate already this morning. They have the "normal" deli fare, sandwiches, soups, salads, pastas and they also have daily specials like meat loaf and lasagna but what I always get when I go there is a full plate of roast beef, hot and freshly sliced right before your eyes, on top of a mound of mashed potatoes and gravy. I can never finish it because their portions are enough to feed 2, but that just means I have dinner for later that day. I tried this place about 3 months ago and I keep going back. I buy the hot pastrami and roast beef sandwich. They give you about 10-12 slices of each. The price is reasonable for what you get. I would actually pay a few bucks more because it's so good. I highly recommend this place for a good meal. The seating area is set up like a cafeteria, but that just makes it easier for me to scarf down my sandwich without anyone staring at me. I will continue to frequent this place. Service was friendly and quick. Seems a bit pricey but maybe I ordered the wrong thing here. Got a hot ham sandwich with cheese and veggies. I think it's worth noting that my sandwich didn't have nearly the same amount of meat that people are posting pictures of. Not sure what that's all about but the sandwich was nothing special and it came to $10.89. One of the best sandwiches you can find in Sacramento - and I dare say the largest sandwiches. The meat is sliced right in front of you. I usually go for the roast beef - rare and juicy. Add a little beef dip and you are set! I am always so happy with the sandwiches, I haven't ventured onto other parts of the menu. But friends say hot items like the lasagna and meat loaf are amazing. And once again, huge portions. No wonder the line goes out the door at lunch. So, if you are downtown and what great sandwich that will fill you up, stop by Bud's. You won't be disappointed. The name "Bud's Buffet" might be a bit deceiving because it's not technically a buffet. They do, however, make one helluva sandwich. My favorite is their roast beef. The sandwich itself is a good size, but it is kind of pricey for the size of the sandwich, but you're getting quality roast beef here, ladies and gentlemen. They will literally carve off the roast beef right in front of you right after you order it. Now, that's subway fresh! Ha! You can either dine in or take the sandwich to go, but during the hot summer days, I prefer to take it back to the office and eat it there because it is very warm in there. Granted, they've got a few fans running up in there, but it's still a little too warm for my liking. I've been going to Bud's once a week, every week, since 2006. Shave it down to 40 weeks a year that's still a total of 320 sandwiches for this kid. Additionally I'm normally picking up for at least 4 other people who share my deepest addiction. Bud's roasts their own meats which are still hot when they hit the deli slicer. As most folks mention the portions are fantastic for the money and I normally skip breakfast on Thursdays in anticipation of a killer lunch. Standard sandwich comes with mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato and onions. You've got to ask for cheese (Swiss, Provolone, Pepper Jack and Cheddar) and they've also got pickles, jalapenos, horseradish and spicy mayo for which you also need to ask. The onion rings are very good but you'll want to shout your fried orders to the third guy behind the counter before you've even ordered your sandwich. They have a single serving fryer which will take a few minutes to prepare your batch. The following sandwiches are the most popular with my crew and the Diablo is the hands down favorite. Pastrami Diablo (Spicy Mayo, Pepper Jack Cheese, Jalapenos) French Dip Roast Beef and Provolone Ham and Swiss Roast Pork and Swiss The two guy who slice the meat and build the sandwiches provide a very high level of service and they'll even remember your regular order. Show up before 11:30 AM if you don't like to wait. I would say, however, that even if you come in at 12:00 PM and the line is wrapped around the inside it still moves pretty quickly. Seating, though, will be a problem. There isn't an eatery in Sacramento that I would recommend higher. Enjoy my friends. P.S. This place is a Sacramento institution across from where I work. Slight greasy spoon atmosphere but reasonable prices and delicious food. They have hot roast beef that they slice made to order and au jus. Everything I've had here was great and the staff are really friendly. I also like the retro lunch counter feel. read more

I ordered the infamous french dip. The guy carved it up and placed it on a delicious roll. The roll was soft and delicious. The roast beef was peppery and flavorful. That's all you need.
