    Pastrami sandwich
    john h.

I cane here for a Pastrami sandwich after reading some reviews. I ordered a large Pastrami sandwich with provolone, mayo, lettuce and tomatoes. I asked for a cup for water, she said I could buy a bottled water (red flag#1), it was only $1, so I agreed to it, my total came to $19 and change. I wanted to use the restroom, I did not see one, then i saw the sign, no public restroom (red flag#2). My sandwich arrived, the pastrami was brown like roast beef(red flag#3). I guess it tasted like pastrami, the sandwich was average at best. The interior was kind of run down.

A nice, low key spot for solid grub. Regular sized cheesesteak was good/ decent. Fries okay. Onion rings super crunchy with the perfect onion to batter ratio. Wifey really liked her burger. Soda fountain is a huge plus. Gal employee was all alone but our food came quick and she was nice.

One-way ticket to delicious food. My wife and I took a chance on this local food spot the other day and wow...we now have our "go to" Philly cheesesteak spot and its dangerously close to our home. Funny enough we came here because I was craving some chicken wings but upon placing our order the nice lady working there said it would take about 30 minutes -- being as hungry as I was I decided to opt for a philly cheese type sub since it would only take a few minutes to make. I ordered the Jersey Turnpike Special (sirloin steak, pastrami, mushrooms) and my wife had the Philly Cheesesteak. We ordered two regulars but I think we could have gotten away with just ordering one Large sub (they were huge!) The meats were seasoned well and even the pastrami wasn't overly salty which I appreciated. For my Turnpike, there was a nice blend of both the sirloin and pastrami -- the right amount of cheese too). We'll definitely be back, next time I have to make sure to call ahead so that I can try the wings without having to wait too long for it. Go check this place out, a hidden gem in West Sac for sure.

    Philly with fried zucchini

Not in the mood to cook and craving a Philly cheesesteak, my dad, husband, and I made our way to Grand Central Station for dinner. Our order was simple - three Philly cheesesteaks with everything on them. This included sautéed mushrooms and onions piled high on top of perfectly cooked steak with gooey melted cheese and the softest bread. These were definitely Philly cheesesteak perfection. To accompany our cheesesteaks, we ordered onion rings, fried zucchini, and french fries. The onion rings were golden perfection as were the crinkle cut fries. The fried zucchini were tasty, but all three of us decided they were the least favorite of the three. The restaurant is nondescript, but the service was warm and welcoming. The next time a craving for a Philly cheesesteak strikes, I will definitely be coming back to Grand Central Station.

It's been years since I've been to Grand Central Station but I stopped by this Friday before leaving town for the day and was looking for a quick lunch. I'm glad to see they're still not only doing business, but it seems that, if anything, it's picked up! Despite being nestled away in an inconspicuous business mall, Grand Central Station was packed when I arrived, with no tables left and a few people ahead of me in line. I thought this might affect the deadline I was on, but I figured I gave myself enough cushion to wait longer than anticipated. Luckily, the wait wasn't too long and I was able to order within a few minutes. The lady behind the counter (perhaps an owner?) asked me what I'd like and I decided on the Grand Central Station special - a cold sub boasting a trio of cheeses and even more meats. I believe I'd had the cheesesteak on my last visit and the a lot of their hot sandwiches looked great, but I planned to order the large and save half for later while I was traveling via train. The Grand Central Station Special seems like it would hold up longer, so I went with that and got all of the toppings included, from lettuce to tomatoes to pickles and onions and Mayo and a special "sandwich dressing." I also ordered a Diet Coke and the owner gave me a number to take to my table. All the tables were still full but I grabbed a chair and took it to a sort of bar area along the side of the store. It was a little awkwardly placed but allowed me to sit while I waited. I noticed another patron get up and quickly moved to that spot. Within a few more minutes my sandwich was out - certainly faster than I was expecting with the amount of customers they were serving. The large sandwich was large but not as gigantic as I was assuming, given small, medium, and large sizes, and the $14.99 price tag. That said, it was great! The bread wasn't too crunchy and chewy and was easy to bite through, and all of the toppings were of decent quality. Nothing was overwhelming great in the sandwich, so I'd probably branch out and try something else, but it was fine! I ate the first half there and saved the other for my later train ride. I can confirm it held up well when I ate the second half around three hours later. I was in and out in a quicker time than I was expected, given the crowd, so kudos to the staff for the quick service. Next time I visit, I'll be trying something on the hot menu!

Philly cheese steak with the works! (All the veggies)

This place is soooo good! My best friend & I had just finished a job nearby, & decided to search on Yelp for places to eat, GCS popped up & we are so glad we chose this place to try. We each got the Philly cheesesteak with all the vegetables (green bell pepper, mushroom & onion), & I think this has got to be one of the best cheesesteak I've eaten here in Sacramento so far. The bread on the Philly cheesesteak was so soft, delicious & yet firm, it could definitely hold a lot of meat without the bread getting soggy or breaking, which is a big deal to me. The meat & cheese were seasoned perfectly. The egg rolls are made in house - their egg rolls reminds me of the ones at Jack in the Box but totally fresher. The skin was deep fried to perfection. Curly fries were curly fries, but they weren't burnt & cooked perfect as well. Overall I am definitely coming back & bringing my squad with me next time!

I love finding spots like this! I was in town for a quick visit and this spot was close to my hotel so I walked over for lunch today. I was so pleasantly surprised! The woman at the counter was very sweet and really took care of me. I got a chicken philly, fries, and pork egg rolls (per the recommendation of the front counter lady). Sandwich was delicious. Well seasoned and I added peppers and it was so good. The fries were good, nothing to brag or complain about just standard. They needed salt. The pork egg rolls were also delicious and tasted just as good warmed up hours later in the microwave! It was all for a great price, with no skimp in portion sizes like most restaurants nowadays, and great service. I have 0 complaints about this place. Next time I'm in sacramento, i'll be back for sure.

Hubby said he was hungry for a sandwich and I remembered bookmarking a spot in West Sac. Hence, Grand Central Station. With a pretty high 4 stars (overall) rating and pretty decent foodie pics, I called in our order. I loved the voice on the other hand, she was allllll business; boom - place our order. Arrived early and ended up adding chicken wings to our order (thanks to my sis, Meena!) about 20 minutes pass, and we get our order. Immediately the car filled up with a delicious garlic smell, I couldn't wait to get home. Started with the wings; so I prefer my wings thicccc and breaded. While these wings were okay, I just prefer flavored breading skin over fried skin, "fried chicken" - solid 3 stars for these bad boys. Long Island Expressway Italian Steak - 5 STARS; thin, flavorful slices of steak with cheese, mushrooms, hot peppers, onions - this was super delicious! Try it. The Railroad - bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, American cheese, turkey, avocado; this was BASIC. 3 stars. Garlic Fries - 4 STARS. Crispy, crunchy and FRESH cut garlic sprinkled on top. Yum! I would highly recommend this hole in the wall spot. Don't judge this book by its cover, because after your first bite - you'll want more!

Our usual fare is a box of dark meat, pieces of 8 for just under $18. Always good in the past, except for this time it was so bad. How bad? We will never come here or any other Krispy Krunchy again. It's just not worth making the drive home, then expecting to sit down to a enjoyably tasty meal after we take care of feeding our dogs and then end up getting sick over it. Not the nauseous throw up kind. The oil irritated my wife's throat and caused her to get a scratchy throat the next day and made her sick. As soon as I got one bite in, I realized a fishy smell, the breading was hard, fused to the meat and the meat itself was dried out. Now mind you, this is dark meat which is supposed to be way tenderer and juicier than white meat. My wife used to work at KFC years ago and she knew that one of the issues was it was cooked in old oil. The other issue was this was old chicken (cooked days prior) that has been sitting under the warming lamps for way too long. We love to support the private and small business operators but we expect to get what a professional food business advertises, good food and won't get us sick from their negligence in straying from their Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). That means knowing when to dump the old oil and use fresh oil. The other is to throw out meat when it's no longer suitable for human consumption. For us, it's KFC here from now on. I've never been so disappointed from getting food from a gas station. This is from a person who loves the hot dogs at 7-11. I have also bought many times home cooked Tacos and Tamales from a gas station and never have been disappointed in all my years of driving 40+ years into a gas station. You've been warned...
