But these high school girl love to mutter mean things in Spanish about anyone that ruins their Spotify playlist or gossip time. I've experienced poor customer service and unfriendly staff all four times I've been in. The ice cream is decent but doesn't compensate for the service. Tonight we arrived several minutes prior to their listed closing time, their door was still open, and the open sign was lit. But the staff member was reluctant to serve us because she had "already mopped the floor". She was visibly annoyed that we still wanted to buy ice cream and was rude through our whole transaction. They're the only ice cream shop downtown but we'll still opt to pick up our ice cream at Safeway from now on. read more

I really have no idea what happened when the other reviewers visited. My friend and I came in around 12:30 on a Friday, were served immediately and were obscenely impressed. There aren't a lot of old fashioned soda fountains in business these days, and this one has been around (under various owners) since 1948. My friend had her old fashioned strawberry milkshake served in an old fashioned glass *with* the silver cup with the extra that couldn't fit. She loved it. I had their 2 scoop sundae and it was magnificent. Real Hot Fudge so thick that you needed to lick the spoon several times to get every last drop, creamy ice cream and thick and creamy whipped cream. All Topped off with nuts and a cherry....I was in heaven. It was humongous too. I've never seen the likes of a sundae so big and tasty. Pretty good price too. Everyone who came in after us was welcomed warmly and served promptly. They seemed happy and content as well. Three cheers for this old fashioned soda fountain and five stars from me. Bud's Ice Cream is in serious need of a cleaning. Better yet a remodel to bring it from 1948 to the present. The place is dirty from the walls and floors to the refrigerator and garbage can. There are glass ice cream dishes on shelves on the wall, yet they serve sundaes and banana splits in plastic dishes. The 3 servers spent their time giggling and laughing instead of cleaning the place. I felt like we were eating ice cream in a third world country. read more

It's hard to make bad ice cream, but this place has managed to do that. Both the ice cream and the milkshake we got were bland. Beyond that, their staff were pretty careless, we were the only ones ordering, but they still failed to make our milkshake with malt as we requested. So the vanilla shake just tasted like water with a hint of milk. Let me start by saying that I will never go back to Buds again. I have never reviewed a business prior to now, however I felt that it was my civic duty to warn all who enter that this place deserves zero stars. My wife and I went in for dessert after having an excellent meal down the street. It was 9:56 and the doors were unlocked and people were inside eating ice cream. There were two employees working who were maybe in their late teens, early twenty's. As we walked in one of the lady's looked up and told us in an indifferent tone that they were closed. Being that the sign on the door said that they were open until 10:00 and my cell phone said that it was 9:56 I was somewhat taken aback. When I made sure that she was aware of the time she responded (in a snotty tone) that they had a long day and I could just come back tomorrow. I told her that if a business said that they were open until a certain time, then they should gladly serve guests until said time. At this point I did not want to give them my business and we left. A word of advice to the business owner...Unless you, too, just don't care about the success of your business, you should be responsive to any input you have regarding your business, be it from Yelp or whatever. Otherwise your employees can and will run it into the ground. ( Mine is not the first post of Buds mentioning poor employee attitude.) my wife and I were talking about the fact that Buds has incredible potential to be a great hangout for locals and tourists. They.were.out.of.rainbow.sprinkles. I could just end my review with that. Seriously. How can an ice cream shop run out of rainbow sprinkles? How does that even happen? Aren't the toppings stock piled and ordered in industrial-sized buckets? If not, they should be. Seriously. So, the rainbow-sprinkles-let-down wasn't even the first and last strike. This place has been here as long as I can remember. Everything else was closed when we were looking for some dessert. Folks close up shop early in these parts I guess. We ordered a banana split for 2, and an ice cream sundae. They were decently good. Oddly I ate the marachino cherry, and it tasted old and bitter. Yuk. Then I had to wonder how old the ice cream was, but under all those toppings how can you tell anyway. This place is a great thing to have in town, but I really do feel it's time for a little love. Oh Bud's, where to start. So, I went to get some ice cream there one day and I ordered my favorite flavor - chocolate peanut butter. After I was about halfway done with it I realized that THERE WAS NO PEANUT BUTTER And then, I told the staff (a teen who didn't seem too enthusiastic about the job) that it was just plain chocolate and she said "Oh yeah, it's a new tub so the peanut putter chunks are usually at the bottom" and completely dismissed me. She didn't offer to put peanut pieces on top or anything. She just walked away. CRAZY RIGHT?! Yeah, the service isn't very good, they don't seem too happy to have customers. Anyway, I've been there a few times since (and not ordered chocolate peanut butter) and the other flavors are alright. Nothing out of this world. This is a cute little ice cream shop located right in the strip of restaurants and shops. The other reviews mention it is dirty, but I think it is just old. We got a chocolate dipped banana that could have been dipped a couple more times. But they are very generous on their scoops. My daughter loved the peanut butter chocolate. We sat inside and ate it.
