At this Thai restaurant you have to order and pay at the counter, seat yourself and then a server will bring you the best Thai food in New Orleans. They have like 10 tables inside and 3 outside along with a full bar. We usually order the papaya salad, Pad Thai and four other entrees for our small group to enjoy and the owner always passes by and checks on us while dining. No parking lot but usually plenty of parking spots available on the streets around the restaurant. Yum! I happened upon this place by chance, and such a delicious chance it was. I could tell by the smells coming out of the kitchen that this could be special. I have been wanting to try Budsi's since I came across their instagram account back in the pop-up days. Boy am I sad I didn't try this sooner... think of all the delicious food I was missing out on! Budsi will blow your mind. When you look up flavor in the dictionary, you'll find a picture of Budsi's Khao Soi. It's rich, super savory, spicy, tangy - I feel like I need to invent a new word to describe this dish. I highly recommend! I also got the larb balls. They were also good! Warning: this is likely because I got takeout, but the dipping sauce seemed to have separated a bit so the top layer was basically pure fish sauce - be sure to give it a stir before dipping otherwise you might get a mouthful of fish sauce like I did. Thankfully when you get takeout they keep the noodles and soup separate because I could only finish half of it so I got to have leftovers the next day (it was equally delicious as leftovers). Finally got the chance to take the short walk over to Budsi's for dinner tonight. Everything about this great little neighborhood Thai treasure met or exceeded my expectations. The comfortable sidewalk seating, with classy fire heaters beckoned me from down the block. The cool interior space felt so welcoming. The menu tempted me to order way more than I needed. Finally, over a delicious gin cocktail, called the south side, expertly crafted by Charlie, I decided on the dishes I couldn't resist. The Tom kah soup was perfect. The pork dumplings were awesome. For entrees, we opted for the Thai fried rice, with chicken and shrimp (real gulf shrimp with heads & tails intact) and the chicken pad see ew. Both were excellent. My husband and I ordered takeout from here a few nights ago because Thai is my typical pre-test good luck meal. Frankly, I've tried just about every Thai restaurant in New Orleans, and this one blows them all away in the flavor category. Inside the restaurant seemed like a really fun vibe as well! We got an order of pad Thai (duh), which was so flavorful, just a hint of sweet (not overly sweet like some places), savory, not fishy-so well balanced. We also tried the crispy pork with kale and fried egg (this was so delicious, but they did forget to put our rice in the bag unfortunately so we were a little sad about that), grilled pork shoulder (rich, crispy, sweet goodness), and the khao soi noodle soup (awesome flavor, didn't break, with yummy big chunks of meat). For spice level, we got regular on the pad Thai, which was perfect for me. We got spicy for the soup and my husband enjoyed that-he loves spice though so may try the Thai spicy next time. Budsi's is a really nice restaurant in Marigny which has really nice outdoor seating. The prices for all of the dishes are super affordable. I tried Budsi's Noodles with chicken. The food was decent and was made really fresh. However, as someone who really enjoys eating really spicy food, I felt that it was lacking a bit in terms of spice and flavor compared to other Thai restaurants that I have been to. I do though hope to go back and give it another chance and try some other dishes that are there. read more

I had heard many outstanding things about Budsi's. I found the food good, but not great. My husband and I shared the Larb balls, pad Thai with crispy pork, and khao soi with chicken. The larb balls were dry, although the sauce had the perfect "larb" flavor. The khao soi was a good consistency and had a lot of onions and pickled greens. It had a nice initial flavor, but it kind of held steady instead of becoming a more complex/dee flavor. We ordered it spicy, and it was spicy but not overly so. The Pad Thai was the weakest dish. There was not the complex and depth of flavors that is usually for pad Thai. It lacked both the sour and salty aspect. They have me a side of the dumpling sauce (soy and vinegar) which helped a little. We ordered the Pad Thai spicy as well, but it was incredibly spicy- much more than the khao soi. My husband and I visit NOLA regularly and tonight we were yearning for a culinary adventure and we found it here. We walked from our hotel, the Melrose Mansion, on Esplanade through a magical little neighborhood to get to this little hidden gem. The outdoor dining and main dining room was brimming with lively conversation among diverse clientele who definitely looked like they were knowledgeable of all of the great local spots. We knew we were in the right place. I will say that I have eaten Thai food before but this was different. THIS was outstanding as I found the food to have a complexity of flavors that I have never experienced. The tom kha coconut soup is our go-to favorite and it did not disappoint. Made up of a nice thick broth accompanied by a generous amount of chicken and vegetables. The bamboo salad might have been good but it was overly spicy for both of us and we eat fairly spicy foods. The pad see ew with crispy pork was delicious paired with the jasmine rice. We ordered for pick up so I cannot speak to the service or a whole dining experience. About 2 years ago I ceased my allegiance to Sukho Thai (after they raised their prices while their portains and quality plummeted). This is when I (finally) re-discovered Budsi's. Every item on her menu is good, made fresh with love and good quality ingredients. Fresh veggies and things some 'thai' places skimp on like fresh Kafir lime leaves, lemongrass and galangal. Absolutely love her take on drunken noodles with ramen style noodles instead of the typical wide noodles. Try the Thai fried wings - they come with a funky fish-sauce-based dipping sauce with hot chili & shallots & cilantro that is sweet and sour and super umami and I could practically drink the stuff! read more

A great find on our trip to New Orleans. A beautiful inside with a beautiful bar. It was a little crowded when we went, and we were exhausted after a long day so decided to get our food to go, and our wait was impressively short. We got the drunken noodles and Budsi's noodles, both with chicken. Absolutely delicious flavors, good price, and fun to try and compare the two similar dishes. Thai food is probably one of my favorite Asian cuisines. The flavors are unmatched. This place definitely left my taste buds dancing. The portions are good. I enjoyed the drunken noodles, flavor was great. It was made with ramen noodles and not the traditional wide noodle. I also thought the fried rice was very good and flavorful. I did not enjoy the head on shrimp in the rice. I'm sure the heads add flavor but I prefer not to have to peel shrimp in the midst of eating. Will this prevent me from ordering the rice with shrimp, nope, but it is an inconvenience. I will definitely be back to try more items on the menu. read more

Possibly the best food I've ever had!!! My boyfriend and I just tried this place today and everything was amazing. Great recommendations and friendly staff. The inside was quiet, dim, and super cute! We had the drunken noodles, pork shoulder, khao Soi( recommended) and pumpin soup. The Khao Soi was the perfect combination of sweet and spicy especially with the house made chilli oil. The Creamy Tom Yum Soup was my favorite! I love a creamy soup and Tom Yum so this was the perfect combination and the flavors were great. The Spicy Stir Fry was okay, I wouldn't get this dish again. We ate at Budsi's Authentic Thai tonight with a tween and three teenage boys. The place is in a typical absurdly charming New Orleans building on the border of Treme and Marigny. We walked in. It was crowded and buzzy. I saw that it was an order at the counter and bring a number to your table place. This normally makes me walk out. Especially at dinner. I have more than one job and essentially waiting tables does not appeal at this point in my life. Thankfully we stayed. (So after the comment above, I'll sound like an even bigger douche.) I have been in Thailand almost a dozen times. During several of those visits I took cooking classes. I know a Thai food. I find most Thai food in the US (yes except Lotus of Siam in Vegas etc) homogenized, vile and dessert-like. EVERYTHING we had was excellent; Larb Kai, a noddle soup, dumplings, crispy pork with lots of greens, a yellow curry with pork belly (a-fucking-mazing), rice noodles with beef, a dry lemon-grassy chicken and pepper dish with broken noodle bits and an egg rice. Everything was served with the right condiments. Not surprisingly the rice was very well cooked. I always try to model good manners and behavior at restaurants when my son is around (I've given up with my partners's kids who still seem to feed rather than eat). I want him to be able to eat anyplace. At one point my son said "Wow I guess you really liked the food." I may or may not have been scraping plates. read more

There were several tables outside, but we opted for a booth inside. The dining room large and spacious, but that also made for a lot of noise bouncing around. Especially with all the people popping in to order takeout and then waiting/leaving. It was hard to talk at times. Even so, the food was fantastic!! We had Chicken Pad Thai and Chicken Pad See Ew, and both dishes were flavorful and fresh. Portions were large, so we had leftovers to bring home with us. Thai is a special treat, and this is a restaurant we'd come back to. We'd likely opt to sit outside though. read more

After asking for recommendations, the counter person who took our order was so kind to tell us what his favorite dishes from each of the menu sections and I went with the pork shoulder/papaya salad (Bangkok style)/sticky rice since I had never had Northern Thai cuisine specifically and wanted to veer from my usual pad see ew order I'd do in Brooklyn. Well, it was absolutely heavenly! My wife also really enjoyed her pad Thai and we split the coconut mango rice dessert which is a MUST.
