This may be a weird to start a review but get the french fries! I swear they are amazing!! IDK what they do to them, theyre just plain old fries but hot damn, they are so friggin good! It doesnt matter what I order to eat here, I have to get an order of the fries. They come out so hot and salty and just perfect! We had a dinner my daughter got the fish sample and before I could ask her if she liked it her plate was empty, so yeah Id say she loved it. My husband had some sort of shepherds pie dish and he loved it too. I got a steak with chimmi churi sauce and asked for medium well but it was served almost raw, so I had to send it back. When it came back it was still a little under cooked but the flavor was perfect. If you were a devotee of their small and intimate cottage on South 1st, I'm not sure how you'll feel about their new location at the Hill Country Galleria: It's certainly larger, hipper, and a whole lot trendier, but I just don't know you well enough to argue whether bigger is better. But for me, Buenos Aires Café is all about food, service, and their Quatro Leches, and nothing else matters. Two of us sat outside on their patio and shared a Lomito beef sandwich with fries, a Lomito pork sandwich with a mixta salad, and a split Quatro Leches for dessert - both of us thought everything was perfect. You should know their "sammys" are bread, meat, a smear of Dijon, and that's it. I personally go nuts with a side of their chimichurri sauce, and the resulting taste and texture contrast between perfectly grilled meat and warm crunchy baguette is as good as it gets for me. If you look up "Less is More" in a dictionary, you'll see a picture of the Lomito sandwiches from here. I could argue my tab with tip totaling $45 was a tad high for a two-sandwich split dessert lunch, but sometimes, you just have to pay for greatness, and I'm happy to do it. It also occurs to me this may be the ideal place to bring the in-laws, or that weird set-up first date, or even your boss or clients; but in the end, they can fend for themselves - Buenos Aires Café is a great place for you to come and eat. read more

Have been wanting to check out the Argentinean cuisine at Buenos Aires Cafe for some time. Finally made it on a Wednesday night. Walked into to a very inviting, stunning yet simplistic smallish dining room. My husband and I chose to take two seats at the large bar...beautiful woodwork, lighting, and white washed bricks on the wallls. Live music playing in the corner. All nice touches. Was welcomed by Franz, the barkeep. Really nice and knowable young man. Cocktails? Yes, please. When in Buenos Aires, or a cafe with the same name in the Hill Country Galleria, have to go for an Argentine specialty... or rather a few. The drinks - Caipirinha: Cachaca (people often mistake for a rum; however, it is not...it is a cane sugar based liquor but has a more smoky flavor like tequila), lime, and brown sugar shaken and poured over crushed ice, as is tradition. Oh, yum, so incredibly refreshing...one of my new fav drinks for sure! Piso Sour: Piso, egg white, and house made simple syrup (from brown sugar) served in a martini glass with a pretty swirl of bitters on top. The old-fashioned additive of the egg white provided the frothy foam on top. Again, yum. Qulmes: Argentine beer. Extremely light and crisp. Like a summer pale ale, but better. Not hoppy at all. Huge fan. The eats - Started of with a few empanadas. Carne Picante: Spicy ground beef with onions, egg white, raisins, and olives. Just the right amount of heat, great flavor. Vendura: Spinach and ricotta. Really reminiscent of Greek Spanakopita. Good. Both empanadas had the most flaky, buttery crust. A+ At the recommendation of Franz, we order the Parrillada for ONE to share: Great selection, especially if it's your first visit and you want to try a bit of many things Argentinean. Huge chunks of perfectly cooked beef and pork tenderloin. Load up on the made fresh daily chimichurri...I'm in carnivore heaven. Some of the most tasty chargrilled chorizo I've ever had. Two halves of a quall; a little tough; tad overcooked. Melted provolone and spice served in a cute cast iron skillet to smear on pieces of toasted bread. All accompanied by fantastic fried potato squares (extra crispy on the outside, super moist on the inside, not at all greasy; would normally be an afterthought, but we actually noshed on the tators before slicing into the beef) and blanched haricots vert. Great, just great. And for $29.99...plenty enough for two...even took a bit home and made myself a frittata for lunch the next day. While finishing dining, and well into an hour after the restaurant had closed, now having moved onto to wine, we had the great pleasure of meeting BAC's Executive Pastry Chef Reina who sat at the bar next to us. We spoke about travel and obviously all of love for food. Exceptionally nice and interesting conversation. Reina creates and makes all the in-house desserts daily. She insisted we try something...twist our rubber arms. ;) Had to go for the Crème Brûlée. Not like any you've ever had before. Dark chocolate base with hints of flavor and spice from a variety of chilies, including cayenne and pasilla. And of course, the perfectly torched sugar shell on the top that makes all Brûlées so good. Highly recommend trying this fascinating and enjoyable dessert. Thanks for the talk and the dessert Reina! Overall: We will be back, especially for happy hour. After only our first visit, Buenos Aires Cafe feels like a second home. The service is great, the food is wonderful, and the price is right! Tips: HH is Mon-Sat from 3-6pm. A few $5 house cocktails (sadly neither of the two I had), $1 off beers, and assorted food items ranging from $3-10 (including a half Lomito beef sandwich other Yelper's have raved about; only served during lunch and HH). We came here with a groupon. The service was awesome. The server was awesome because she actually gave us her honest opinion and told us straight up what would be unique and what are her favorites. I hate when I ask for a recommendation and they ask me what I like and tell me that everything is good. C'mon, let's be real, not everything is good in a restaurant. We ordered: mussels, pollo al horno, and gnocchi quartet. Mussels were great! Pollo was ok, a little dry but nothing spectacular. The gnocchi was very different. Each gnocchi was a different flavor. So there was one that was pumpkin and that was pretty cool. It was big pieces of gnocchi too. It was a great experience and I look forward to trying new things with some more mussels! read more

This is for the location at the Hill Country Galleria - I haven't been to the original 6th Street location but I sure hope it's better than this. First, the good. The empanadas were some of the best I've had. Perfectly cooked and a great flavor without being too filling. The chimichurri that came with it was very good as well. The wine prices seemed a little high for malbecs but the selection was very good as well. Sadly, the same cannot be said for our entrees. All the food we received was incredibly bland. The green beans had no seasoning and were akin to those microwavable French green bean bags you can find at HEB. The mashed potatoes were loaded with butter to the point that it overpowered the yukon gold's flavor. The chopped sweet potatoes were completely unseasoned as well. The chicken was dry, unseasoned, and frankly hard to eat. The pork tenderloin's saving grace was that there was a decorative smear of sauce on the plate; there was no other seasoning without it. We've heard rave reviews about the 6th street location and were incredibly disappointed with our experience at this location. With the exception of the empanadas, everything was incredibly overpriced for what it was - large, bland, uninspired portions. read more

I attended a small dinner party with five of my Asian lady friends at the Buenos Aires Café on the evening of April 19, 2018. We have just finished the Hill County Galleria Wine Walk and simply asked the receptionist for a table for 6, though we had previously called in a reservation. We were seated in a separate room from the main area and away from other customers. We liked the privacy, but did not expect such isolated accommodations for a small group like ours. After being seated, things went to hell in a hand bag. It was 20 minutes before anyone came in to take our orders. A lady claiming to be the manager said she would be our hostess and took both our drink and food orders at the same time. One of our groups ordered out of turn and was quickly reprimanded. The manager reminded me of my grade school teacher who threatened to paddle me for speaking out of turn. That action alone turned what was a fun occasion a bit sour for most of my friends. A little more friendliness could have gone a long way, I said at the time. We actually thought she didn't like Asian women and seemed to be a bit put out having to wait on us. Our drinks came out first and there were several mistakes; The 2 glasses of Chardonnay for starters, with an order of red wine "with the meal" all came at once. No coke or appetizer as ordered. She left after we told her what was missing and didn't come back until after 40 minutes with the food and the appetizer. Still none of the soft drinks were brought. My friend who ordered the appetizer was quite irate, understandably so, and told the manager that she wasn't paying for it. The appetizer should have been served prior to the main course. Tension started to build up. Instead of owning the mistake and giving us the appetizer as a compliment and an incentive of visiting again, the plate was removed from the table in a hostile way. Throughout the meal, no one came to refill our water or checked on how we are doing, but where I was sitting, I could clearly see that people sitting in the main section of the restaurant being served appropriately. Our fun evening of girls' night out had turned into horrible dining experience and tempers were boiling. We finished our meals and when it was time to pay our separate checks (which took forever) the cokes that never came were charged on the bill. And to add insult to injury, the appetizer that was taken away was charged. We are residents of Lake Travis. Three of us moved here 20+ years ago. 2 recently moved to their new homes in Lakeway and Steiner Ranch. We think something about our appearance might have made this manager think we were the help and somehow did not belong in her restaurant. And honestly, she succeeded if her goal was to keep us away from Buenos Aires Café again. We have already told all of our many friends to avoid it like the plague. The food was good, but the service has much to desire if your skin is brown. Since this experience, I have made 3 attempts, without success, to contact the owner to express my dissatisfaction over the service my friends and I received. read more

Folks I am addicted to this restaurant and the dish I highly recommend is the Pollo Al Horno delicious. I wonder how the chef always gets it right. They can't even make any mistakes fixing this dish. .....no joke. Another favorite is the Fettuccine Alfredo to die for ....real deal. Empanadas a must don't forget to order the Carne Picante and the Tuna and dont leave without ordering dessert ahhhhhh.......a Tres Leches cake to die for. I truly can't say enough good things about this place. This is a pretty relax place so waiters are taking there time serving you but ....always there if you want or need someting. Simply put, the French Fries are the best that I have ever had! The baguette they use for the choripan sausage is awesome! Same is true for the lomito sandwich. Salads and soup are also amazing. The ambience transports you to Argentina and you expect Evita to make a grand entrance at any moment. Booth, table, bar, and outdoor seating are available. I'll start off with the good: empanadas with the chimichurri are fantastic. I always enjoy their BLT and lomito beef sandwich as well. Now regarding the not so good: their booths are disgusting.. seats are all ripped and need upgrading and their tables have gunk/dirt/crumbs embedded under the glass cover. Lastly, the terrible: I've never had a good experience with the wait staff. Many of them are not personable, awkward and bad at their jobs. I always have to flag someone down for a refill when the restaurant isn't even that busy. Overall, I'll be back for the empanadas and not much else. read more

Very nice restaurant -- a nice addition to mix things up in the Bee Cave dining scene. Hubby and I went for the first time this past week and to our surprise there was live music. It was a really nice instrumental trio, great for still being able to have a conversation while enjoying the music. The service was very pleasant from the gentleman who seated us and from the waiter. I notice a few of the reviews mentioned not being impressed by the employees. Maybe they have made some changes because we didn't notice any issues at all. Now for the food -- it was extremely yummy (except for the caesar salad which I will mention in a moment). We ordered 6 various empanadas to share and two salads. It was plenty of food for two people. I had the spinach salad with candied pecans, apples and feta cheese. I really enjoyed it and the dressing that it came with complimented it nicely. My husband got the caesar but it was poorly executed. It was not tossed with the dressing. Somehow the dressing was pooled up at the bottom of the plate with a pile of plain romain lettuce strewn atop with some cheese and croutons. It was a strange way to serve a caesar salad. Toss it in dressing, for cryin' out loud. Oh well. Get the spinach salad instead--it was really good! As for the empanadas, we shared the following: the chicken, the spinach and the ground beef. They were all really good. I would eat them all again. The outside was flaking and crispy and the inside was savory and delish. The ambience is casual yet nice enough yet upscale, I'd call it. There was a live band that kept us entertained while we waited to be seated. We decided to order a few different empanadas, (Carne Picante, Carne Suave and the Pollo) all were rather small but delicious. For an appetizer I shared an assortment of empanadas. They were all delicious! The sauce that is served with them is phenomenal!! I also shared the arugula salad which wasn't anything special but it was tasty. For the entree we were recommended the Lomito Beef sandwich by the waitress. It was very good! The steak was cooked perfectly and the French baguette was very soft and fresh. I would recommend trying this at least once, very good. For dessert we had crepes and the spicy dark chocolate creme brûlée. Both were yummy but the crepes were the winner! We love the food here, but the last 3 times the service has been terrible. We had reservations and it took 30 minutes to get sat. No problem, we can be flexible. Then we were sat and waited 15 minutes for a server to come by and take our drink order. It took another 15 minutes to get any water and we had been there a total of 45 minutes before my first drink was finally served. I would say it's a fluke, but the same exact thing happened last time. I doubt we'll return now matter how good the food is. read more

Stopped in for an Argentine Empanada and an Argentine equivalent of our margarita - Caipirinha-It has Cachaca, fresh lime, and brown sugar. It was very good! Service was prompt and they were able to answer my questions regarding food and drink. The Empanada was so good I had to order a second one! I had the Carne Picante. Delish!! The dipping sauce (hand prepared Chimichurri) really brought all the flavors together! It's a small, intimate restaurant with a full bar. Off the beaten path, you'd miss it if you weren't paying attention! Great place to bring a date...if only I had one.... They have a patio, for those gorgeous, cool, spring afternoons. If I could review the hostess and waitress, they'd get 5 stars. Delightful. Ok - the shrimp prosciutto wrapped shrimp was tasty but dry. Fairly overcooked. The beef empanada's pastry was fantastico! Amazing! Light, airy, divine. But, the ground beef was actually grissely. Kinda gross. I had the petite filet and it was just meh. Slightly seasoned - my tenderloins on the grill are better. My family ate here a few days ago. It was not up to our expectations for a restaurant with the prices that we paid. The service was bad; from being seated to the food to the drinks. The food came out within 10 minutes of ordering it, not long enough to fry the Milanesa Con Fritas that I ordered. My broccoli was barely blanched and I couldn't cut it with my knife or stab my fork into it. The mashed potatoes were barely warm. The Gnocchi and Canelones Caseros looked like they were under the heat lamp with my meat, none of it was hot. The broccoli and tomato pieces were fresh. When we were almost done eating I finally got the waiters attention by actually flagging him down. We had not received our cocktails that were ordered at the same time as the meal. Then he only brought two over instead of three. We waited a bit and I had to flag him down to get the third. My Long Island tasted like lime water, the Mexican Martini was too salty to drink and the third drink had very little bourbon in it. The manager/owner walked by several times and you could not catch her eye. We ate the food. It was edible and goes against our grain to simply waste it. Lest you think that we are simply picky, we have been taking our son out several times a week since he has been here. He has been here about 3 weeks. Well it's definitely time to call it quits here. Been coming here for years, the quality is just getting worse and worse. They only have a few beef items on the menu and the quality of beef is now absolute $h!t, remarkable arrogance by ownership and leadership. Frankly, the owners should be embarrassed however that too is not probable. I have two stars due to great service.
