Seems like things have changed at Buffalo reefs. On past occasions everything was great. Last visit wife found a hair in her fries. I'm bald and her hair isn't dark brown or black. Coleslaw as a side was meh and not worth buying again. Curly fries were buried in salt. Potato salad was creamy and flavorful; yes, I'd buy this again. Wings are plain and simple - no coating, nothing special - fried and drenched in the sauce of your choice or served naked for you to dip into the sauce(s) of your choice (50 cents per small container of sauce.) I have fond memories of this place. But, alas, all good things come to an end. We are visiting from Hawaii and the biggest thing we looked forward to was buffaloes reef. From the past we remember juicy, tangy wings with rich blue cheese dressing. I guess the ingredients changed. The wings are soooo tangy and too rich to eat. The blue cheese has become a saucer of mayo with some poppy seeds (I think) thrown in. Well.... I guess that's one less thing to look forward to when visiting. Wow, I'm completely baffled!!!!! This African American served was just completely discourteous. So pissed, so flabbergasted. She said "how are you" we said "good" ig she didn't hear us. We love to stop here when we're in town vacationing from North Alabama. The home made bleu cheese and celery / carrots are wonderful. What happened to the days of 50 cent wings? If it were up to me, I would never have walked into this restaurant. Alas, sometimes things are not up to me. The wings here are pricey, almost a dollar per piece. Yeah, for a half a piece of a whole fucking wing. Which might be okay if the place was nice. But the place is old and drab and divier than dive. You know, one of those spots where they keep the menu in a plastic holder on the table, and you feel icky just touching the menu? And every other screen displayed for at least an hour, one of those paid for programs on a spandex camisole that will squeeze your fat away. Three easy payments of $19.99 for an $180 value where you can get it in three colors. They did have a daily special of the southern chicken sandwich with fries for $5. That would have been a good deal if the sandwich were good. But it wasn't. And for 50 cents you can get the chicken in a sauce. I got the garlic parmesan and did not taste it at all. So don't bother with that I guess. In the middle of it I dropped the water and it spilled everywhere. Oops my bad. The server told me that she was behind me. I thought she meant to help me clean up as I swept ice and water into the bread basket. But no, she was just passing by and didn't want to be bumped into. No one came to help clean up and I cleaned up the whole table area myself and then sat in a quarter inch of water around my feet for the next 10 minutes. Hey, at least I had thick soles. read more

Was easy to get seating and sat. Unfortunately I was sat downstairs and use a cane. I have seafood allergies and shellfish allergies. Asked the first waitress if they mixed foods in the oil she didn't understand and I asked if the fries are prepared with the shrimp. She said yes. Always the best service. Went here with my daughter for a snack, to-go fried mushrooms. Had a beer while I waited. Great staff and always friendly, im sure they have been this way for years before I even started living in the area. Their buffalo wings are the best I've had anywhere in the country. I've ate at this restaurant multiple times and this was the third time that I had the worst food ever, when we spoke with a manager at the time, we told her that the food tasted of metal and that it look to be freezer burned and it was very dry, she was nonchalant and really didn't care that the wings they served tasted like metal and looked to be freezer burned. We didn't even eat our meal and there was no apology from the manger just a statement that "they " never freeze their wings, which may be true for them but at one point these wings were frozen and definitely were freezer burnt I've attached pictures so that you can see for yourself that this is the kind of food that they felt acceptable to serve to their customers I don't see us going back or recommending this place to any one! read more

I lived in Fort Walton for many years, working across from Buffalo's Reef. When I moved to Pensacola, I was saddened because thy weren't across the street any more. I haven't lived there for 15 years and had a serious craving so hubby and I took a road trip on Friday specifically to go to Buffalo's Reef. I was not disappointed! It had been ages since I had a Chicken Parrot sandwich, so of course that's what I ordered. Experience had reminded me that they cook the food to order so I sat in a booth and smiled, reminiscing about when I was an almost daily customer. I'd ordered that Parrot with a side of medium wing sauce and a side of ranch dressing and I'm here to tell you, that sandwich is just as good as it was all those years ago. The chicken was juicy, the bacon crisp, the cheese melted just so. It was $24 for two HUGE sandwiches (I want to know where these magical chickens with the huge breasts come from) both with a HUGE side of curly fries and two drinks. This is one of my very favorite places to eat and I will definitely be making many more trips to get my favorite sandwich. There was only one thing missing, but I'll confess I was so happy to get a Chicken Parrot and have it live up to my memories that I wasn't upset. I wish they still made their Blue Cheese Coleslaw but even without that, the food was wonderful. Thank you so very much for staying as awesome as I remember. A waitress and The manager on Dec 23 at 4:50 refused to let us be seated until all (7) of our party was there stating it was her policy. Note: there were Only 3 tables full at the time and there were three tables that could accommodate us. Also, there were no people waiting in front nor behind us. when I informed her we had 2 handicapped people she was unfazed. She made us wait by the door for 12 minutes on the coldest day of the year. Locals had informed us that the Reef not only was good but it was the oldest if not the first wings sports bar in FWB. Intrigued, we went expecting to order take-out. I would love to give them a 5 Star review, however, there have been times the wings have been a little "crispy" (over cooked /dried) and even the "super hot" sauce didn't alleviate the aridness of the wings. Yet, their burgers, fries, and other menu items were always on point. We especially love their Southern Style Sweet Tea with crushed ice!!!... so soothing not just on a scorching sunny Southern but anytime. This was our go to place while we lived in Fort Walton and still one of our places we love coming to when we return to town.
