I love this bakery the bread is super soft and conchas are my fave such buttery taste and delicious but today were enjoying dinner my husband grabbed a bolillo out of the bag and some weird hair looking things were stuck to it . We immediately stopped eating and started checking what it was to be honest it looks like fine animal hair it doesn't look like human hair . I'm not here to cause harm with my review but they need to be careful ! My daughter and I had ate one earlier previously to this matter so it is concerning to say the least . As long as we don't get sick it's all that matters to me . I really hope it's not animal hair or any hair but it really looks like animal hair . One of the worse owners I have encountered . I came about 3 weeks ago to inquire about a special order, spoke to the Asian owner and she said she would call me back to come and get a sample. Weeks went by and I never heard from her. Came back to today after 3 weeks to see her and ask about my inquiry . She said she gave my number to the cook to call me and that can not fulfill my request . What a bad Managment style . Anyways I don't recommend this place to anyone. Shame on me for forgetting about this spot. I went out to pick up bread the other day and the place I usually go to had a huge long line and when I got to the front guy tells me they don't have bread even though I see racks and racks of it already baked behind him. Not going to shame them, they do what they want. My dad had brought me a bolillo sandwich, bolillos, and conchas from this place and I was genuinely confused when he shared their business card. I called him to ask are you sure this is the place. It looks like it's an Asian bakery not Mexican bakery. My dad said yes and I had to come by and check it out myself. I came by on a weekday to find shelves of Mexican bread, refrigerator with soda, a ton of cameras, and items on printer paper. There's no menu but many handwritten signs all over the place. I asked the woman behind the counter if they took Apple Pay and she pointed to a sign that said CASH ONLY. I walked out checked my pockets for any cash because I had to have this Bolillo sandwich again! Found $12 in a pocket and I went back in. I waited for 7 minutes and the lady came back to the front and asked what are you having. I told her the Torta Sandwich and she pointed to which one on a croissant or bolillo. Of course it had to be on the bolillo! This sandwich is extremely basic on ingredients (ham, tomato, lettuce, onion, avocado, jalapeños) but it's so fresh and so delicious! I'm drooling just thinking about it. My order was ready about 5 minutes later and I also added a chocolate concha, 2 bolillos, and a Can of coke for a total of $11.35 The sandwich is magnificent! Absolutely enjoy it and crave it often. 10/10 It's wrapped up like a Banh Mi sandwich. Concha was not for me. The formula for the bread is not good and the topping was not plentiful. It did not have a classic flavor and was a pass for me. The bolillos here are perfect crunchy outside and soft inside. 10/10 The service is very transactional. Not friendly. Basic. The bolillo sandwich is my favorite and so delicious. There is only street parking and there's a couple spots in front. The conchas are not for me. I don't like the texture or flavor at all. I would be open to try other breads but don't have high hopes. The store almost looks abandoned when you walk in but it's a working bakery. No tables to sit inside or outside. Still confused if it's an Asian bakery as they didn't sell anything besides butter biscuits. Either way the sell a delicious bolillo sandwich that I would eat again and again. Delicious! There's a wide array of Mexican bread. French rolls and sweet pastries galore. I got a chocolate concha, ham and cheese croissant, pumpkin empanada and a regular croissant. The conchas are sooooo good and all their pastries were perfectly sweet and fluffy. The croissants, both plain and ham and cheese were flaky and delicious. Bui Phong Bakery (aka BP Bakery) is the epitome of all that is San José: it's a French Vietnamese-owned Bakery that specializes in Mexican Pastries. Did you get all that? No? That's ok. It's a lot to wrap your head around, I know. They're located in the heart of one of San José's most Ghetto-Fabulous neighborhoods -- that's lovingly referred to by some as "Ghetto Glen." They mostly specialize in Mexican Pan Dulce -which I'm not really into- but they also have a few things in there that they do really well. Here's a quick list: Torta Bread- Wonderful Torta Rolls that are a fabulous value at 3-for-$1, and if that weren't enough they're actually quite good too--especially if you catch them straight from the oven! They also sell Torta sandwiches that are very popular with the Day Laborers and Construction Workers that are their main clientele in the morning. I have yet to try one, but maybe someday soon. 5* Cinnamon Roll- Not the greatest Cinnamon Roll I've ever had but for the price it's not bad; it doesn't have a lot of Cinnamon flavor but the bread is spot-on. 3* Croissant- They have two different Croissants: a Pan Dulce version and the standard French version. The Pan Dulce is pretty good, but not really my cup of tea. The French one, however, is very good; not as flaky or buttery as a Flower Flour Croissant but -again- for the price ($1.25) very not bad! 3*-Pan Dulce/4*-French Stuffed Croissant- They have a couple of stuffed Croissants that are excellent but I highly recommend the Turkey, Jalapeño and Cheese! It's as wonderful as it sounds. 5* Banana Cake- I just recently discovered this little gem. It's basically a slice of Banana flavored Yellow Cake, topped with Banana-encased gelatin. While the gelatin wasn't that great the cake itself was fantastic; soft, moist, not too sweet and a great banana flavor. They also have a Pineapple version that I can't wait to try! 4.5* Service & Ambiance- The ladies working the front are very friendly and speak a fair amount of English. The store is "Cash Only" and -as I mentioned before- the neighborhood is kinda suspect so be sure to lock your car. The store itself is kept clean and is usually very busy first thing in the morning and early evening. 4* Value- This is definitely BP's strong suit -on account of their stellar location- their prices are terrific. The most I've paid for anything here is a $1.75-- and that's usually for a huge pastry that could feed two people; most of their items are well below the $1 range. 5* Ordinarily I would never frequent this area, but I -fortunately!- work just a few blocks away. BP Bakery is a real diamond in the rough and I highly, highly recommend it if you're looking for some high-quality baked goods. read more

I feel like a million bucks coming to Bui Phong Bakery (BP). When I first came to BP, I almost walked out thinking I came to the wrong place. Kind of strange, Asian name but no sort of Asain baked goods. It's mainly Mexican baked goods which I don't typically eat. The crossiant filled with turkey, cheese and jalapeño is excellent. Plain Crossiant is also good, doesn't have flaky crust but still good. There pineapple pie, strawberry turnover is good. Coconut Mounds is excellent if you can get it fresh from the oven. Crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. I gotten it when it wasn't fresh from the oven, it didn't have that crispy outside. If your there early, ask one of the ladies for fresh. BP Bakery is located in a stechy area. Serves cheap bake goods, that's why there's always a line. The ladies are very nice and line moves pretty quick. Just a few bucks and you'll have breakfast and lunch. read more

This is my wife and my go to spot for pan dulce. I highly recommend the marble cake, elotes, ojos, the square bar cheesecake if they have it, these amazing chocolate covered cream filled spirals, and they're very well known for their bolillos which are more baguette like in my opinion. They make a great torta with beef ham and turkey if you're hungry. Only downside is parking can be a bit limited if you don't find a spot in front of the storefront. The prices are fantastic. We pay more for less quality in other panaderías (pastry/bread stores). read more

Still loving BP! The bollitos are always fresh, super HUGE and a great deal (4 for $1). I love the big Mexican cookie with the rainbow sprinkles. One of my fondest memories is my father taking me to the pandaria when I was a little girl and I would always pick this cookie out. It's a big, candy coated, buttery, crispy delight! Tp preface my mother and father have been going to this bakery since I was only 3 or 4 years old and I am now 25. Everything I've ever ate here was delicious. Highly highly recommend. And even if you don't like sweet things they have great individual bread rolls. My mom makes scrambled egg sandwiches with them and the bread is literally the best I've ever tasted. They speak Spanish, Vietnamese and English so don't be worried to try it out. If you live in San Jose you should definitely check this place out. read more

Don't let this bakery's location fool you ( located between a bar and liquor store) This bakery is quiet modern in concept it's a Fusion Style Bakery, it's a Vietnamse business that also caters to Hispanics so you get the whole Panderia sweet varieties yum. They offer a wide assortment of inexpensive and tasty sweets and breads 4 mini baguettes for a dollar. In the evening they offer the same French bread but dinner style with a roll textured crust versus crunchy like in the day. They also do fresh carrot and orange juice. If you wanted that feeling of bang for your buck BP bakery will have many 1 $ dollar options that will make your measly dollar feel important again. read more

This is a Vietnamese bakery but most customers are latinos. Workers there are really nice and polite. Their Croissants and Vietnamese breads/French Loaf/Torta Rolls whatever name you prefer are the best in town. It's soft, crispy with very thin skin. This's the only place I buy breads while there're at least 4 more Vietnamese bakeries within a half mile. Drop by at 8:30pm and get their last batch of breads being just out of the oven and you'll truly understand what I meant. read more

I started going here when they only made bollios/rolls and sold them out the back because the front was a mess that needed lots of work. I actually followed the scent of bread and found a long line leading up to a door. Best adventure ever. Great local spot for wonderful pan dulce. Swung by to pick up some bread for our unit breakfast this morning & thought I'd be able to walk right in...not! The line was literally out the door. But, I was still out of there in under 10 minutes. Don't let the line fool you, the ladies are hustlin' in there to get you what you want ASAP. I will have to come back & try more of their goods when I have time. I ordered a dozen bolillos to go with our breakfast. It They were 3/$1. This is one of my favorite places for Real Mexican fresh and warm "BOLILLO" or "French Bread" for many years its been the Best . The sweet bread or Pan Dulce is also good. I sincerely recommend these bakery to you guys in San Jose /Bay Area. ( inside at the bakery it's clean) But.... My recommendation about this place to the owners is to please CLEAN the sidewalk and doors it's dirty and there's also at least two homeless all the time asking for money covering the entrance. . read more

I went the other day and I waited in line for 30min since there was only one person up front and everyone else was in the back. While standing in line I saw flies inside where the bread is sold and the lady was absolutely rude. I asked for bread from which the fly was around and I asked to get another one but she refused to give me another one and I quote her saying "it does not even matter there all the same." Ahi la mueven, 3 empleadas y parece que no dan abasto, en cosa de 3 minutos se crea una fila de 4 personas cuando estas por escoger tu tercer pan ya esta la fila de 6 a 8 personas, dos amigas me habian comentado de lo bueno que es el pan aqui, pero hasta no ver no creer y la prueba fue que probando una pieza cuando me subia al carro reaccione y regrese sin tituvear a comprar mas, el pan mexicano es mas conocido por su sabor peculiar que por su calidad pero este caso es la escepcion, la mayoria del pan mexicano al siguiente dia no es el mismo pero el pan de BP se mantiene muy bien por un par de dias! realmente es muy bueno no puedo generalizar en todas las variedades que tienen pero por lo que se ve y una empleada me comento todo es muy bien vendido, inclusive parece que siempre hay alguien trabajando y si esta cerrado el frente inclusive por una puerta trasera se puede llegara comprar bolillo por la madrugada, impresionante ademas que precios por algo siempre esta ocupado y la gente compra bastante, si es tan bueno y barato quien no va a llegar a casa con los brazos llenos de pan, es una de las fatisfacciones de las tradiciones mexicanas tener un pan dulce por las tardes o las mañanas como primer alimento. Pero que del nombre ?
