We visited in June, and just a heads up--it did get a bit chilly from the afternoon into the evening. However, what disappointed us was the food and service. The meal was good, but for the price, we expected much more. The portions felt small for what we paid, and we were also not informed beforehand that there would be an extra charge for using a credit card. The service started off great, but as our visit continued, it became less impressive. Some of the dishes and drinks we ordered were forgotten and we had to follow up. Another thing that surprised us was the valet requirement, even though the parking garage is right where you pull in. If I remember correctly, valet was around $20, which felt unnecessary. Malibu Sake House is such an amazing vibe, classy and sexy. We grabbed a few items to start noodles,cucumber salad, edamame,short ribs, and mochi ice cream which was such a treat. And beautiful drinks to match which was a great concoction of lychee and sake. But we also did tried the filtered sake which was delicious. Rafi the owner is so nice,welcoming and humble. We visited this restaurant on Mother's Day and had a reservation for 8 PM. Unfortunately, despite booking in advance, we were told upon arrival that we still needed to wait another 15-20 minutes. After waiting, we were offered a table tucked away in the corner of the patio, facing another table instead of the ocean view the restaurant is known for. Since the atmosphere and open patio were one of the main reasons we chose this place, we declined and waited another 5-10 minutes before finally being seated at a better table in the middle of the patio. On top of the already high menu prices, valet parking was $20, and a 20% tip was heavily pushed as well, which made the overall experience feel even more overpriced. The atmosphere itself was probably the strongest part of the experience. The open-air setup was pleasant, the tables were spaced apart nicely, and the music was great. There was a DJ playing throughout the evening, which created a relaxing vibe without being overwhelming. Unfortunately, the food and service did not match the prices or expectations. The menu was confusing and required a lot of explanation from the server. We ordered edamame, seaweed salad, and four different sushi tacos. Each taco was around $18, yet they were extremely small -- you could easily eat two and still feel hungry. Considering the pricing, the portions felt unreasonable. The wait for the food was also surprisingly long, especially for such small dishes. To make things more confusing, the edamame -- which is normally served as a quick appetizer -- arrived at the very end of the meal instead of first. There were also small details that reflected poor organization. No ginger or wasabi were provided, and the soy sauce container on the table was completely empty when we sat down. When I mentioned it to the server, she acted as though she had already refilled it, even though it had clearly been empty from the beginning. At the end of the night, they also did not provide a paper receipt. Instead, they quickly scrolled through the bill on a tablet, making it difficult to properly review the charges before paying. There is parking available on the street but don't risk it like I did. I ended up getting a parking ticket. I recommend valet parking since it is going uphill when you arrive to this restaurant. The restaurant is located on the third floor. This spot is across the street from the ocean. The view from this place was just as phenomenal. If you want something that screams something different, with photo op type vibes, and aesthetically pleasing then this is the place to go to, with their iconic cherry blossom tree in the center of the dining area, the great calm vibes of all the different decor from different parts of Southeast Asia make this very calm and relaxing place to go to the DJ that plays the music played a phenomenal playlist, which was nothing too hectic or crazy that makes your brain go berserk all the music that he played here was absolutely soothing. The staff was very nice. We didn't have reservations till 9 o'clock, but were trying to squeeze in a little earlier and they managed to do so for us so we were seated at a table that are considered like low top tables because of the style and the height of these tables, but we didn't mind. It was still a beautiful experience. So shout out to the hosts for making this happen for us. The owner Rafi was very, very friendly and hospitable. We noticed him talking to all the other guests that were dining in there, and he was very friendly to address some questions that we had for possible future, catering events at this location. The food, however, was not that great the cuts of the carpaccio that we ordered specifically the halibut and the yellowtail were questionable, but overall was not that bad flavor. We also ordered their coconut ceviche, which we thought, for some reason would have some kind of a fish or seafood in it, but it was just vegetables and mango with a coconut type dressing to it, and it came with chips. We also ordered their short ribs which came with rice, some kimchi and a little bit of cucumbers, which was a little too salty. You come here for drinks and the vibes you want something to snack on then these in my opinion are considered snack size portions and because it's located in Malibu, the prices are pretty fair. read more

Both were typical flavor profiles you'd expect, nothing fancy. However, the prices are insane. $16 for each dish and you get 4 very small pieces. Not worth it at all. I'm all for model-sized munchies, but on a late Friday night (after a full day of moving), I was hoping for a few heartier options to truly get my grub on. I can't fully vouch for the service since I was admittedly distracted by the decadent decor -- and perhaps slightly lost in my Italian lover's eyes. That said, the space itself is painfully gorgeous. Also: be prepared to valet. I believe it's $20ish just to park, which strikes me as high (but I'm much cheaper than my customer service-savvy companions, who don't bat an eye in the face of expense). We ordered four different sushi tacos, and when the plates came out, we honestly thought they had only brought one or two dishes instead of all four. The restaurant wasn't busy at all, yet our tall server with a pixie cut gave us some of the worst service we've ever experienced. She was checking on her guests often and looked like she genuinely cared about making sure everyone was having a great experience. It really stood out and showed that excellent service is possible here. we just unfortunately didn't receive that same level of attention. The food portions were honestly shocking. We're more than happy to pay premium prices for great quality and reasonable portions, but spending nearly $200 for four small rolls was a huge disappointment. The only highlights were the miso soup and getting a good laugh out of the experience with my boyfriend on our anniversary. Overall, I'd recommend saving your time and money. I absolutely loved everything about this restaurant! The Japanese inspired architecture and decor are exquisite and truly create an immersive feel! The restaurant sits on a hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, which of course provides amazing views! When you arrive, the entrance is a little bit obscure. At least for us we were dropped off in a parking garage and then went into the lobby of a building. Had to take the elevator up to the third floor, which then allowed you to enter the restaurant. However, once you get up there, it is spectacular... from the moment you step off the elevator you are enveloped in Japanese surroundings. All of the dining is outside under a giant sakura tree.... Which is lit up in a fabulous pink light, making for a very romantic dinner! Our waiter came over almost immediately got a drink and appetizer order and came back shortly later to get our dinner order. All of the food came out quickly, so probably best to order it in stages. We started tonight with the Cucumber Salad, Chicken Gyoza and the Miso Black Cod Lettuce Wraps. Then moved onto Yellowtail Habanero Sashimi, which was presented like a piece of art!! And beyond delicious! My husband also had a few pieces of Tuna and Salmon Sushi. And we finished up with Flourless Chocolate Cake also presented in a truly unique way! However the food is just okay, it took about 25 minutes for crispy rice to course out and additional 15-20 minutes per dish. Happy sumo cocktails were just meh. What I think is this place needs more experience waiter, cause the 1 I had really don't deserve any stars...if you want a 20% standard tips then you should at least meets the standard of customer services.. The waiter I had didnt meet minimum standards customer services. Let me say this rather u valet or not if you want to park your car in structure it would be a $20.00 charge all day if you pay cash and with credit card theres an xtra fee. Difficult to write 2-3 star reviews because this restaurant/location could be so amazing if they work on a few things. The view and ambience is 4 stars in my book. The view across the street from Nobu is nice up on the hill. The view at sunset is great if you're focused on that element. We walked in sat in the section waiting to be seated and we ordered drinks that never came. We eventually reordered when we sat down at our table later on. The service at the table was also extremely slow and they were not even really busy there. The food is what stands out the most to me. We ordered several different things that quite frankly I would've probably returned back if given the chance. the short ribs were like beef jerky. They were so chewy. I think I could've cooked better short ribs at home in a microwave. The portion of the ribs were small and thin. .The forbidden rice with spicy tuna was bad too. The rice was under cooked and really gummy. Also were portioned in a small tiny way. Value is a huge thing for me and this wasn't nobu across the street quality wise. The lettuce wraps were actually somewhat decent. Good flavor, but the overall portions were so extremely small and you're paying 20 to 30 depending on the plate just doesn't feel like the quality and value are there for the price and area. The sake black bowls at the table were dirty. The one I had in front of me had a crusty spot in it. The menu booklet was a print out and not the same visually at each section of our table. I mean half fast done I'm sorry to say. Once again the lack of value and quality is everything here with so much competition out in Malibu. The view and setting is great, but besides drinks late nite here, I don't see it at least right now. We received great recommendations on shareable plates and their drinks. The food is high quality, the Sashimi was buttery smooth. The spicy tuna tartar was mouth watering as were the dumplings. Don't come here hungry. Our dinner ended up taking nearly three hours. It took about 10 minutes just to be greeted, and since we were walk ins we were seated at a large shared table, which was fine. But appetizers took almost an hour to arrive. The edamame and crispy rice tuna were good, but the hot items (wings and shumai) came lukewarm/cold, and our edamame had salt despite requesting no salt. Our dumplings were also mistakenly given to the table next to us and had to be remade. After that, it was extremely hard to get our server's attention to place the rest of our order. Sushi didn't start coming out until another hour later, and I had to confirm that our order had even been put in. The table next to us had the same issue and asked to rush their food because they had a flight. We were told there were several chefs working, but the pacing was still very confusing. The sushi itself was fresh and made well. Unfortunately, the shumai were not good and the wings would have been fine if they were hot. I noticed other tables cocktails looked great and came out quickly, but the kitchen seemed disorganized and the staff visibly stressed. We asked for the check and the whole process took 30 minutes to get out of there due to service delays and were given the wrong change and another table's receipt. All the waiting and mistakes really added up to the three hour experience. The space is cute and very photo friendly with a beautiful ocean view, though the concept felt a bit corny. What we ordered: - Mocktail (can't remember what it was called but it was the only one on the menu) very good, nice tart refreshing flavor - Chicken soba noodles, it was good, not great but it was good, probably my least favorite of the night. - Spicy tuna crispy rice, this was one of my favorites top 2 for sure, wish they gave more than just 2 though - Salmon crispy rice, also very good but not as good as the spicy tuna in my opinion - Short ribs, sooo good! Cooked perfectly, flavor was amazing, I enjoyed the cucumber salad that it came with as well - Shrimp dumplings, I like the texture but it was sort of fishy -Chicken gyoza, very good, soft with a slight crust texture - Chocolate cake (flourless) it was okay, would have been amazing if it came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream We came around 4:30pm, the views were amazing, great for taking pictures, even saw someone purpose when we were there. The service was very good as well, our server was very sweet, and other staff members also checked up on us to remove old dishes and such. I wasn't a huge fan of the music they were playing it was mostly usher (let it burn), boys to men type of music, but they were likely playing it because it was the day before valentines, not my favorite but the volume as very good, you could still have a nice conversation. Stopped by Sake House, and the ambiance alone already sets the tone. The ocean view is incredible, and the whole place has a really nice theme that makes it feel like a special spot, especially if you're there around sunset. We started with chicken karaage, miso soup, and yakisoba noodles with chicken, then moved on to the albacore crispy onion and salmon sashimi. The food was a bit hit-or-miss for us. The chicken karaage had a lot of batter and honestly leaned more toward chicken nugget territory than karaage. The yakisoba was slightly too sweet for my taste. That said, the albacore crispy onion and seared salmon handroll completely exceeded our expectations, easily the standout of the meal, and the salmon sashimi was solid. Service was great throughout the night, and the staff were attentive and helpful whenever we needed anything. If you're coming for the view and a relaxed Malibu vibe, this place definitely delivers. From the moment we arrived, the entire experience felt intentional and beautiful. The setting alone is something special. Perched up with ocean views, glowing under the night sky, with that stunning blossom tree creating the most romantic atmosphere. The music was soft and tranquil, adding to the experience without ever being distracting. It all just felt right. And then there was our server, E'myri. From the very beginning, she didn't just say she would be taking care of us. She said she would be taking *good* care of us, and she truly meant it. She was attentive, intuitive, and incredibly helpful in guiding us through the menu. She took the time to understand what we would enjoy and absolutely nailed every recommendation. She also shared a beautiful story about the owners of Sake House opening their space to help house displaced families during the Malibu fires last year. Hearing that made it clear that this place is not just about great food and atmosphere, but about people who truly care about their community. One of the things that stood out most was the owner walking around greeting guests and making everyone feel genuinely welcomed. It created such a warm, personal environment that you do not find everywhere. My drink was nothing short of amazing. It was a lemon and lavender cocktail with a hint of rosemary and a strawberry garnish. The balance was perfect. The sweetness, the froth, everything about it was just chef's kiss. And the food... wow! Every dish was so good that we ended up ordering more of the same after we finished because we did not want it to end. That says everything. Just to start I want to say this place made me create a yelp account when I previously did not have one just to let the public know how horrible this place is. This place is the biggest joke I've ever been to. They charge you 20 bucks for some burnt chicken nuggets and call it chicken kaarage. They charge you 18 dollars for a "sushi roll" and then it comes out as one "sushi taco" that's bite size. Unbelievable, will never be returning here ever again. The only thing you are truly paying for is the view of the ocean. ANDDDD on top of everything there was hair in my sashimi! The sashimi I paid top dollar for. You honestly can't make this up. And on top of everything the water looked so polluted it's actually incredible how even the most simple thing they could mess up. Please please please never come waste your money here. read more
