Honestly out of our typical comfort zone BUT the views were absolutely beautiful! Service, food, views, music, everything! Theres all day parking more towards the left or parking that closes at 7-8 right next to valet. Crying Tiger Steak was perfectly seasoned and came with spicy cucumber and a onion tomato tamarind side? It was really good though! 10/10 Sushi Tuna Taco was good aswell but definitely small for the price 7/10 We got tuna and salmon sushi and those didn't disappoint. Both were extremely fresh! Salmon was buttery. I like that they used thick slices of protein but rice portion was slightly low to my liking. 9/10 Green Dragon Matcha Cocktail with Sake - If you don't drink often, its not your typical matcha from starbucks. This spot caught my attention, and I was excited to finally try it. I brought my family here to celebrate my husband's birthday, and the place itself did not disappoint. The atmosphere is absolutely beautiful, the views are breathtaking, and the overall setting is stunning. We visited in June, and just a heads up--it did get a bit chilly from the afternoon into the evening. However, what disappointed us was the food and service. The meal was good, but for the price, we expected much more. The portions felt small for what we paid, and we were also not informed beforehand that there would be an extra charge for using a credit card. The service started off great, but as our visit continued, it became less impressive. Some of the dishes and drinks we ordered were forgotten and we had to follow up. Another thing that surprised us was the valet requirement, even though the parking garage is right where you pull in. If I remember correctly, valet was around $20, which felt unnecessary. Overall, while the location and view are beautiful, I personally would rather spend this amount somewhere that offers a better balance of food, service, and experience. read more

Malibu Sake House is such an amazing vibe, classy and sexy. We grabbed a few items to start noodles,cucumber salad, edamame,short ribs, and mochi ice cream which was such a treat. And beautiful drinks to match which was a great concoction of lychee and sake. But we also did tried the filtered sake which was delicious. Rafi the owner is so nice,welcoming and humble. The staff was on top of it and actually helped us with our order of food and drinks to pair the whole time. Cant wait to come back and try more items and on a better day because June gloom was glooming(crying) You do have to pay for parking, which is inexpensive. The ocean view from the Pacific Coast Highway is gorgeous, but if you take a few seconds to glance towards the hills, you might catch a glimpse of the majestic cherry blossoms blooming in Sake House Malibu. From its high vantage point, Sake House Malibu offers a stunning view of the sea and dining ambiance. But aside from aesthetics, this restaurant does not have much good to offer. We were in Malibu for a company event, and decided to hit up a local happy hour. After some searching, we decided on Sake House. We arrived a bit early, but luckily, a hostess was available to greet us. We confirmed with her if happy hour was available and she said yes, but they don't actually open for another half hour. We said that was fine and waited half an hour for them to open. But when the rest of our party arrived, that same hostess tried to tell us that they don't offer happy hour on Fridays. That was completely different from what she told us half an hour ago and totally contradictory to information online. After all, we picked this place because they had happy hour. So we pulled up their website and showed them that they advertised happy hour on Fridays. One of the managers came over and we asked her if they could honor the happy hour because they explicitly advertised it online and because we confirmed it with the hostess 30 minutes ago. The manager agreed to give us happy hour prices on drinks but not food. So already, we were off to a pretty rocky start.  The seating area itself is quite nice. You get a beautiful view of the Malibu coastline and are shaded by the soft pink flowers of a cherry blossom. I would imagine the area would look quite beautiful lit up at night as well. The menu is Japanese inspired and features sushi, sake, and as well as classic accompaniments.  I did not think the food was worth the price point. I don't think the fish quality was very good. My toro nigiri was $24 for 2 pieces, and I was not impressed. Some bites such as the truffle soy crispy rice were pretty good, but they were expensive - $16 to $18 for two pieces.  The cocktails were very pretty, but their taste did not match their appearance. A handful of us got the Happy Sumo cocktail upon recommendation. But I don't think this drink was good at all. It was bland, tepid, and, if you close your eyes, quite unremarkable. The sake was good. We had a few bottles of the Ozeki nigori sake, but they felt like stuff you could grab off the shelf at a Mitsuwa or something as opposed to anything special. Service felt quite disorganized as well. Food kept coming to our table that we didn't ask for. I wish the restaurant would have kept better track of what we ordered. I left Sake House feeling frustrated and unsatisfied. Our encounter with the hostess and debate over the existence of happy hour felt unprofessional and irritating. Service was confusing. The food was overpriced. The drinks were only surface value. At Sake House Malibu, beauty is only skin deep with no substance. read more

1 star | Beautiful view, absolutely terrible experience What a HUGE disappointment. We ordered a lot of food, expecting a great meal given the prices and reviews online, and honestly left wondering how this place gets away with charging what it does. The food: well presented, but that's about where the positives end. The snow crab hand roll was shockingly bland. The yellowtail carpaccio was equally underwhelming. The miso cod was poorly balanced, and the ribs were actually burnt. Nothing we ordered made us think, "Wow, that was worth it." The service: Absolutely appalling. We asked twice for an umbrella to be moved so we could sit in the shade. Nothing happened, so we eventually moved tables ourselves. Our server asked if we wanted ice for the sparkling water. We said yes. The water arrived without ice, so she brought two glasses and proceeded to try to pour the water into our existing glasses. We ended up pouring our own water. Then came the appetizers, except we had no plates to eat them from. When we asked for plates, the reaction made it seem like we'd asked for something completely bizarre. Rather than bringing them over, she stopped to clear another table and eventually returned with the plates. By the time we could actually eat properly, the food was getting cold. Our kids were literally eating food off napkins. Wasabi and ginger didn't arrive until we were halfway through our main course. Basic things that should happen automatically in a restaurant at this price point somehow became a series of requests and inconveniences. The ambience: Beautiful views and a great spot for photos. Unfortunately, that's about the only thing this restaurant has going for it. The price: Completely unjustifiable for the food and service. We should have gone to Nobu. There are plenty of restaurants with beautiful views where you'll actually get good food and competent service. Save yourself the money and the frustration. Go somewhere else. A beautiful view cannot compensate for mediocre food, burnt dishes, and service this poor. One of the most disappointing dining experiences we've had in a long time. read more

If you're coming for the view, this place is worth experiencing at least once. The restaurant offers patio-only seating overlooking the ocean, so you'll enjoy a refreshing breeze, but be prepared for plenty of direct sun since there are no shades. If you're someone who loves soaking up the sunshine, you'll probably love the setting. The food, however, is just average. It doesn't feel particularly authentic, and while it's acceptable if you're simply looking for a casual meal with a view, don't expect outstanding or especially fresh Japanese cuisine. I came mainly for the scenery rather than the food, and that's exactly what stood out. The atmosphere is definitely unique. The restaurant has an almost abandoned, hidden-away feel that makes the experience a little different from your typical oceanfront spot. Nearby you'll also find an interesting temple and a hot yoga studio with multiple soaking tubs, making the whole area worth exploring. Overall, I'd recommend visiting once for the beautiful ocean views and unusual surroundings. The food was mediocre, but the relaxing breeze and scenic location made it an enjoyable first visit. read more

We felt like we were on vacation when we came to Sake House. The staff is very friendly and the decorations are well balanced either the location. Food was a hit or miss but everyone has their own taste buds and can make their own judgement. I just truly enjoyed the view and unfortunately was disappointed when the sun disappeared behind the mountain and we didn't really experience a true sunset. Overall this is a great experience. We visited this restaurant on Mother's Day and had a reservation for 8 PM. Unfortunately, despite booking in advance, we were told upon arrival that we still needed to wait another 15-20 minutes. After waiting, we were offered a table tucked away in the corner of the patio, facing another table instead of the ocean view the restaurant is known for. Since the atmosphere and open patio were one of the main reasons we chose this place, we declined and waited another 5-10 minutes before finally being seated at a better table in the middle of the patio. On top of the already high menu prices, valet parking was $20, and a 20% tip was heavily pushed as well, which made the overall experience feel even more overpriced. The atmosphere itself was probably the strongest part of the experience. The open-air setup was pleasant, the tables were spaced apart nicely, and the music was great. There was a DJ playing throughout the evening, which created a relaxing vibe without being overwhelming. Unfortunately, the food and service did not match the prices or expectations. The menu was confusing and required a lot of explanation from the server. We ordered edamame, seaweed salad, and four different sushi tacos. Each taco was around $18, yet they were extremely small -- you could easily eat two and still feel hungry. Considering the pricing, the portions felt unreasonable. The wait for the food was also surprisingly long, especially for such small dishes. To make things more confusing, the edamame -- which is normally served as a quick appetizer -- arrived at the very end of the meal instead of first. There were also small details that reflected poor organization. No ginger or wasabi were provided, and the soy sauce container on the table was completely empty when we sat down. When I mentioned it to the server, she acted as though she had already refilled it, even though it had clearly been empty from the beginning. At the end of the night, they also did not provide a paper receipt. Instead, they quickly scrolled through the bill on a tablet, making it difficult to properly review the charges before paying. Overall, the restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere and potential, but the long waits, tiny portions, lack of attention to detail, and extremely high prices made the experience disappointing. read more

Omg I was so disappointed My husband and I came to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we end up going to Mastros steakhouse right after. First the host clearly hates her job, the drinks were okay, we ordered the coconut ceviche and we were not impressed, the taco sushi are so tiny, the spicy edamame was delicious. There is parking available on the street but don't risk it like I did. I ended up getting a parking ticket. I recommend valet parking since it is going uphill when you arrive to this restaurant. The restaurant is located on the third floor. This spot is across the street from the ocean. The view from this place was just as phenomenal. If you want something that screams something different, with photo op type vibes, and aesthetically pleasing then this is the place to go to, with their iconic cherry blossom tree in the center of the dining area, the great calm vibes of all the different decor from different parts of Southeast Asia make this very calm and relaxing place to go to the DJ that plays the music played a phenomenal playlist, which was nothing too hectic or crazy that makes your brain go berserk all the music that he played here was absolutely soothing. The staff was very nice. We didn't have reservations till 9 o'clock, but were trying to squeeze in a little earlier and they managed to do so for us so we were seated at a table that are considered like low top tables because of the style and the height of these tables, but we didn't mind. It was still a beautiful experience. So shout out to the hosts for making this happen for us. The owner Rafi was very, very friendly and hospitable. We noticed him talking to all the other guests that were dining in there, and he was very friendly to address some questions that we had for possible future, catering events at this location. The food, however, was not that great the cuts of the carpaccio that we ordered specifically the halibut and the yellowtail were questionable, but overall was not that bad flavor. We also ordered their coconut ceviche, which we thought, for some reason would have some kind of a fish or seafood in it, but it was just vegetables and mango with a coconut type dressing to it, and it came with chips. We also ordered their short ribs which came with rice, some kimchi and a little bit of cucumbers, which was a little too salty. You come here for drinks and the vibes you want something to snack on then these in my opinion are considered snack size portions and because it's located in Malibu, the prices are pretty fair. read more

The quality of the fish is fresh however we ordered the miso cod lettuce cups and it took 30 minutes for it to come out. They also had to remake our smoked salmon hand roll because they didn't put the truffle on it. The server didn't really come around to check up on us even though it wasn't busy. We told one of the staff that we wanted to order two snow crab handrolls and after waiting another 30 minutes, we were told that the order was never relayed to our server so it was never put in. The owner was very kind and apologetic and they took the snow crab handrolls off our tab, which we appreciated. overall, the experience was a bit disappointing given the delays and lack of service, but the atmosphere and the owner's response helped redeem it slightly. be prepared to wait and pay a pretty penny. read more

The food was good -- just not particularly filling. I'm all for model-sized munchies, but on a late Friday night (after a full day of moving), I was hoping for a few heartier options to truly get my grub on. I can't fully vouch for the service since I was admittedly distracted by the decadent decor -- and perhaps slightly lost in my Italian lover's eyes. That said, the space itself is painfully gorgeous. Also: be prepared to valet. I believe it's $20ish just to park, which strikes me as high (but I'm much cheaper than my customer service-savvy companions, who don't bat an eye in the face of expense). However, we were seated in the sun and it was bothering us a lot, kind of made the experience less magical. Tried the shumai and dumplings. Both were typical flavor profiles you'd expect, nothing fancy. However, the prices are insane. $16 for each dish and you get 4 very small pieces. Not worth it at all. Beautiful restaurant with a great ambiance, stylish interior, and amazing views. The music created a very enjoyable atmosphere, and the staff was friendly throughout the evening. Service, however, was a bit slow. It took quite a while for the food to arrive, and even our three appetizers were brought out in three separate trips, which made the dining experience feel somewhat disorganized. The biggest disappointment was the portion sizes. At first glance, the menu prices seemed reasonable, but once the food arrived, the value felt very questionable. We ordered four different sushi tacos, and when the plates came out, we honestly thought they had only brought one or two dishes instead of all four. The total for those tacos alone was around $70, yet the portions were extremely small. The food quality itself was decent, but nothing particularly memorable or unique. Edamame was bland and mushy. Overall, this is a nice place for the atmosphere and views, but if you're coming hungry, be prepared to order quite a bit -- and spend accordingly. read more

I absolutely loved everything about this restaurant! The Japanese inspired architecture and decor are exquisite and truly create an immersive feel! The restaurant sits on a hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, which of course provides amazing views! When you arrive, the entrance is a little bit obscure. At least for us we were dropped off in a parking garage and then went into the lobby of a building. Had to take the elevator up to the third floor, which then allowed you to enter the restaurant. However, once you get up there, it is spectacular... from the moment you step off the elevator you are enveloped in Japanese surroundings. All of the dining is outside under a giant sakura tree.... Which is lit up in a fabulous pink light, making for a very romantic dinner! Our waiter came over almost immediately got a drink and appetizer order and came back shortly later to get our dinner order. All of the food came out quickly, so probably best to order it in stages. We started tonight with the Cucumber Salad, Chicken Gyoza and the Miso Black Cod Lettuce Wraps. Then moved onto Yellowtail Habanero Sashimi, which was presented like a piece of art!! And beyond delicious! My husband also had a few pieces of Tuna and Salmon Sushi. And we finished up with Flourless Chocolate Cake also presented in a truly unique way! ( see photos) Everything that we had was some of the best food I've ever eaten! I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in Malibu. It is such an experience and the food is delicious. The other fun aspect of this restaurant is they have live Geisha girls singing and dancing! Went here for a friend's birthday specifically for the vibes and sunset views and they delivered. There was also a DJ playing an eclectic mix of music. The owner, hosts, and servers were friendly and kind. However, timing of drinks and coursing of food and dessert could be improved. Tuna tartare-tuna and the chips were both bland Shrimp shumai-yummy but small Crispy Rice Truffle Soy Salmon-this was good (each order only comes with 2) Miso Cod Lettuce Wraps-flavors and portions were good Handrolls-tried scallops, yellowtail, and spicy albacore (this one was the best) Kanpachi Truffle Sashimi Special-generous amounts of truffle Pistachio cake-lovely presentation but the inside was slightly frozen (I think they defrosted it?) Very welcoming, a zen atmosphere. The view towards the ocean is beautiful. The service was excellent, from the moment we stepped foot into this beautiful place to the time we left. We received great recommendations on shareable plates and their drinks. The food is high quality, the Sashimi was buttery smooth. The spicy tuna tartar was mouth watering as were the dumplings. Took me back to our trip to Japan. The photos don't do the food justice. I highly recommend this Sushi house and I will be coming back to try other items on the menu.
