A SoCal classic. Probably the most renowned location of the Nobu franchise. For one, it's beautifully located on PCH and they have the best sunsets as it's beachside. We came in a big group to celebrate our friend's birthday. She made the reservation and as a large group they were able to accommodate us with an indoor table. Surprisingly, if one or a few cancel last minute there are no cancellation fees unless the whole group forfeits without early notice. I thought this was a plus. Overall, I've been to several Nobu locations globally. This one was one of the most charming and perfect date night, love a coastal scenery. It does get quite busy, it's recommended to make a reservation. Some of the dishes we ordered: Seared Toro Yellowtail Jalapeño Crispy Rice with Tuna Rock Shrimp Tempura Shishito Peppers Chicken Karaage + way more Signature drink: Lychee martini!! A must every time I visit. Definitely one of the top spots I'd bring someone visiting from out of town.

I came here to celebrate my anniversary and it was such a treat! We got a table on the water and the weather was perfect! Our waiter was amazing and curated our entire meal for us. We started with amazing appetizers, then some hot dishes and ended with sushi and dessert. The best dish was the miso cod. I could eat that every day! The uni was the best uni I have ever had with a wasabi relish on top. The high price of the meal makes it feel impossible to come back but I did enjoy every bite. There is valet parking or you can try to find street parking but there isn't much.

Nobu Malibu is one of the restaurant gems of LA. Incredible views, ambiance, food, service, and vibes. From start to finish, excellent dishes, drinks, and atmosphere. Really enjoy sitting on the patio facing the ocean, a true LA dining experience. The seafood is top quality and prepared with so much attention to detail. We ordered apps and the famous black cod with miso. The rock shrimp was so crispy and flavorful, pairing well with their spicy aioli. Every dish was memorable, a true 5-star dining experience at Nobu Malibu!

Nobu Malibu is honestly all about the location. Being right on the beach gives it such a nice vibe, especially with the indoor-outdoor setup. Sitting outside in the dining area is my favorite spot the ocean view alone makes the experience. Reservations can be hard to get, but honestly every time I've gone we've just popped in, hung out by the bar, and eventually gotten a table. It does get busy, and valet is pretty much the move here. The food is what you expect from Nobu pricey, but always fresh and consistently good. Not much to complain about there. The tacos are all delicious (tuna, white fish, wagyu ribeye and caviar), are always a hit. Drinks are great too, and lately I've been getting the strawberry cheesecake for dessert, which is sooo good. You'll almost always see a celebrity here (not something I personally care about), but if you're trying to impress out-of-town guests, this is definitely the place. For comparison, my second favorite Nobu location is Newport Beach it feels more chill with a DJ and slightly less fancy compared to Malibu. Overall, Nobu Malibu is worth it for the views, vibes, and consistently good food. PS just recently they started charging for extra ginger lol just ask your waiter about it before asking for more.

Vibe and ambiance is great, the beach is right there. Sitting outside is wonderful with stunning views. Sushi rolls, nigiri, and other things were in my opinion just alright. They were good but great. Definitely not justified by the price. The value to greatness is lacking. Far better sushi spots in LA. We ordered a collection of nigiri and sushi rolls. The one standout was the yellowtail jalapeño, which was very good. However, I've had similar at many other restaurants that were just as tasty and at a far lower price point. I'd recommend saving your money and going elsewhere.

Nobu Malibu is a must. This location is unbelievably stunning. It was not too busy when we visited, which was great because we could hear the waves, and really enjoy each other's company. To know before you go-- Make sure to book your reservation a month ahead if you want a specific date & valet is required once onsite. We ordered the rock shrimp tempura w/ creamy spicy sauce, yellowtail jalapeño, and the oysters. I have had better oysters, but the shrimp tempura & yellowtail jalapeño were really great. Wish I tried the lychee martini, because I didn't love the drinks we selected. The view alone makes this location a must visit, but stay for a few light bites & I believe it is well worth it. Service was also top notch.

Location and vibe is amazing. Food isn't great. Great service. Would go ahead, but just for drinks and the view

The ambience was beautiful, you can hear the waves and the breeze felt nice on the outdoor patio. We got reservations for 8pm and they did a good job of keeping the guest warm outside. However, one thing that bothered my husband was that the tables were not flat to the ground. Meaning if we leaned too hard on one side, the table would tip or lean. For how much you're paying here, to have the tables quality be like this was a bit off putting. It also felt very cramped. The table next to me was soo close I couldn't really move back my chair to get up. It felt like they were trying to squeeze as much tables as possible, to get more people there at a time. Service: undesirable. Took too long for them to refill my water glass. At that point I had to just ask a staff for still bottled water. The waiter also seemed to have forgotten our table as it took a while for them to even hand us menus. This is a big reason why the stars are low. Food: yellowtail jalapeño (2/5) was too salty. Miso soup (5/5) the tofu tasted very good. Black cod (4/5) I noticed there was a fish bone sticking out. Luckily I saw it before I ate it. It could have been dangerous, this was another reason this place lost a star. Crispy rice and sushi were good quality and good overall, no complaints there. Overall I left feeling very disappointed. For the price you're paying and the effort it took for me to make a reservation, the presentation of food and service was not good. I've been to a lot of sushi-focused, high-priced places in the OC, and I can tell you at least 5 different places with the same quality, better service and better value. I think the hype is what keeps this place busy. Unfortunately, I will not be coming back.

Came here to celebrate my sister's birthday recently! Food: Everything was definitely fresh. I can see why the Miso Black Cod is a fan favorite. The fish is made to perfection. It was so flavorful and melts in your mouth. While I am not a fan of raw fish, my sister loved the yellow tail. It was not fishy at all and very fresh. My second favorite item from our order, surprisingly, is the fried okra! It was so addicting to munch on while waiting for our main courses. We also ordered the California roll (forgot to photograph). I did not feel there was anything special with that. I've had better California rolls at many other places. The rock shrimp.. although is another fan favorite, I did not like too much. It tasted alright at best to me. The flavors did not mix that well in my opinion. Dessert was a form of lava cake. It was decent. Service: The waiters are very attentive. Two of them even offered to take photos for us, which was very kind of them! They were good at recommending items and took their time with us. Parking: It was a $15 valet parking! Very easy and not too stressful. Overall: The view of the ocean where we were sat was beautiful. The restaurant was lovely inside and out. The restroom had a huge mirror, which is perfect for makeup touch ups. We told the waiter we were celebrating a birthday, and they wrote happy birthday on the dessert we ordered. It was a nice first experience! I would come back in the near future!

Top tier Nobu restaurant! We went here for lunch right at 12pm on a Tuesday and it was still crazy busy. We joined a line to check in around 11:55am but since we had reservations and specifically asked for outside patio, they were able to honor it (no guarantees though). We were sat right directly at the waters, out of the crowds. I'd imagine walking in is possible but you may only settle for indoors, which shaves off a bit from the experience. We got a masu nigori sake which is served in a box. For appetizer, we got the monkfish pate with caviar which is quite unique and has a bit of wasabi flavor from the sauce. It's very elegant. We also got the house special cut sushi which had a variety of fresh sashimi inside, and very easy to take bites from the seaweed based on texture. For the main, we got the famous miso black cod. The meat is so juicy and smooth, just that it is a bit on the sweeter side for me. It's still delicious and well worth the hype, especially given the portion size for the price tag. For dessert we got the Qui Espresso which is a tequila version of espresso martini and it's fairly unique since it uses oat milk. We enjoyed it. Price wise it is very spendy but also the service and quality match. Service is great as they check up on you regularly and make sure to top off our water cups so we are never dehydrated.

Was super excited to stop by for dinner, and this place absolutely delivered. It's definitely a high end sushi spot, from the stunning views to the beautiful interior. The whole atmosphere felt elevated but still comfortable. The staff were incredibly welcoming from the moment we walked in, and after confirming our reservation, we were seated right away. Overall, it set the tone for a really great dining experience. Be prepared to spend a bit, as the dishes are on the pricier side, but everything we tried felt worth it. We ordered a variety of dishes to sample, and there were so many standouts. The spicy edamame was packed with flavor, and I appreciated the extra bowl for the shells. The seafood ceviche was fresh and perfectly balanced. I only wished the portion was bigger because it was that good. The sashimi salad was incredibly fresh, the crispy rice with spicy tuna had a great texture, and the spicy snow crab was rich, creamy, and delicious. The beef short ribs were tender and full of flavor, and the dover sole with crispy spinach lived up to its name with an amazing crunch. We also tried the 16oz prime New York steak, which was flavorful, though it came out closer to medium than the medium rare we requested. Even so, it was still enjoyable. We ordered a few other rolls and dishes that I can't remember by name, but everything across the board was really solid. I'd highly recommend checking this place out, and I'll definitely be back again the next time I'm in town!

First time at Nobu Malibu and it was great. Made a reservation for the patio and got sat right when we walked in. They offer a 15 min grace period for reservations and we all know that's necessary with LA traffic. The restaurant also has a valet company but they don't validate. We were greeted right away and offered waters until our server Sapeer came. He was very energetic, knew the menu very well and took great care of us! He made our experience all the more better. Onto the food, I decided to start off with their wagyu tacos and let me tell you, these are not meant to be entrees, hardly an appetizer. I asked Sapeer how big they were and he said they're a bit bigger than the lemon slices we had on the table. I honestly thought he was joking, until a food runner brought the tacos. They were good, but not worth $18 each, with a required order of at least 2 tacos. Not sure how their other tacos are but I want to assume they'll be the same size. It was laughable and made for a great conversation for our table. My group got some classic sushi rolls and said they were great. A bit small for the price, but good. We also got their jidori chicken which came with 2 dipping sauces. This was very flavorful. The dipping sauces were delicious and made the dish 10x better. We came for a birthday, but unfortunately they don't offer any birthday desserts. All in all, service was outstanding from everyone, from the hosts, food runners and even the bussers. And of course let's not forget the beautiful ocean front views and scenic sounds of the waves splashing right in front of you, doesn't get any better than that.

Wow these reservations for Nobu Malibu were one of the hardest ones I worked to attain. I originally tried to get reservations the week before my boyfriend's birthday but when I woke up in the morning 30 days prior, it was already too late. None of the time slots were available on open table. I had to stay up until midnight to squeeze into an opening for the weekend after his birthday. I even coordinated with the restaurant so that his dessert would say Happy Birthday with his name written on. Nobu Malibu is located off the coast. One of their strengths is having a stunning ocean view. The water facing seats are hard to get, but letting them know you have a special occasion helps. Very romantic!! They have valet parking for $15. If you don't like valeting your car, there is street parking or other paid lots between $10-15 in the area. We were very lucky to sit at a table with ocean view. Sapeer was our amazing server during our visit and we can tell he was doing everything he can to ensure that we had a special outing. His exemplary service is one of the primary reasons for this five star review. We decided to do the Omakase Lunch ($135/person) and added on the Monkfish Pate ($30) and the Black Cod ($48) which Sapeer worked into the course for us into the order it would best be enjoyed. My boyfriend also had a Coke ($4) and I had a Hot Green Tea ($3) since the weather was a little chilly. From a taste perspective, this omakase menu is about average to me. The meal started out strong but it somewhat went downhill. The ambiance is definitely more impressive than the food. Nevertheless there were some delicious bites with the tartare, oysters, monfish pate with caviar, toro, and king crab tempura. My boyfriend was really surprised that the famous prep intensive black cod miso was so disappointing. It had the perfect buttery soft moist texture, but it was overly sweet for his palette, as I knew it would be since he doesn't like sweetness. It was also basically just a piece of fish considering I purchased the dish to be added to the meal. It really needs a side. The ribeye they served was also disappointing. Neither the taste or texture were impressive. If it wasn't part of the omakase course, I wouldn't go to a sushi place to order steak. I was still really proud I was able to get my boyfriend a reservation here. The dessert comes out with the custom happy birthday note and he was really surprised and impressed by my efforts. We had a great time enjoying the view and each other's company. Definitely special occasions worthy, and great to try at least once, but not exactly somewhere I would frequent when I don't love the food too much.

Ask the Community - Nobu Malibu

Do they take reservation for the Sushi Bar or is that walk up only?

You need a reservation for any sitting and they are almost always booked and waiting is about 1 hour

Is it true that Nobu Malibu does not take reservations for a party of 1? (I read that somewhere in the reviews)

If you're going solo, you will have a better chance at walking up

Can you order drinks at the bar while waiting as a walk in?

    Yes

How hard is it to get a table for one outside w/ocean view as a walk-in during a weekday afternoon like 2 or 3 pm?

Not too bad for one...however the ocean view can be tricky. Timing is key and are always high demand, but I've generally had good luck with walk ups

How do you reserve the couch seating right near the railing/ocean? Can they accommodate that for 2 people?

You can definitely ask for this over over the phone and confirm they do try to accommodate request. It just depends on how busy they are for that particular night but most of the time they can make it happen.

    Is Nobu Malibu Card only?

No, they take cash as well.

If you reserve over the phone, do they do a follow-up call or follow-up text to confirm the reservation?

They called me 24 hours before my reservation to confirm.

    Is there a happy hour?

It's always Happy Hour at Nobu! I don't believe there is a happy hour. Note: it's the Experience & the sushi, not the price. GL getting in. I go there usually in the early afternoon once I finish an Appraisal out there. I treat myself

    Do they accept cash?

    Yes

    Do they accept walk ins?

Usually no but I did get a table once when I waited before opening during a weekday. Granted it was only for 2 people. Doubtful if it was a larger party than 4. Especially during the weekends.

How is Nobu Malibu in December?

You know they have indoor seating so it's great

Does this place take reservations, if so how far in advanced do I need to make?

Yes 30 days in advance! Call exactly at 10am ! Your wait time is like 20 mins long already !

    Are walk ins allowed?

Yes but be prepared to wait hours just find a seat in bar area

Any good options for vegetarians ? Avacado rolls?

They have a lot of vegetarian options including avocado rolls ask for anything a lot is off menu

Can you order food at the bar?

    At the bar tables, yes

    Is there a cork charge?

    Yes. I think $50 a bottle

Is proof of vaccination or a negative test required?

No, not when I was there.

Can you go to the bar and have a drink?

    Yes, you can.

Is it required for a pregnant women to be vaccinated?

No one asked for vaccination status

Are proof of vaccinations cards required for dining?

Proof of vaccination is required for entry to LA County restaurants as of October 7.

I've been coming here since they first opened, and it's remained a favorite for a reason...it never misses. And if you love yellowtail sashimi, theirs is consistently fresh, delicate, and beautifully done. I always add extra jalapeño's, but do you. We went as a group of five and shared a bit of everything (the only way to do it, in my opinion), and there were so many standouts. The pumpkin tempura was unexpectedly addictive, and the scallops we had prepared two different ways, were absolute perfection... the kind that just melt the second they hit your palate. What really makes this place special, though, is the full experience. The service is warm and polished without ever feeling overdone, the cocktails are crafted just right, and the outdoor seating has that relaxed Malibu charm. Their Happy Hour deals are served until 5pm and are a great value. You can get a sushi combo or a sashimi combo or a 3 hand roll combo for $18. There are also some deals on bowls, beer, and wine. The deals ARE eligible for takeout which is nice. I opted for the sushi combination, which came with 5 pieces of nigiri (albacore, yellowtail, shrimp, tuna, salmon) and a choice of either a California roll or spicy tuna. I got the spicy tuna. It was a great amount of food and the sushi was wonderful. The size of the nigiri was generous without being cumbersome to eat. The ratio of rice to fish was on the lower end as well. I was a little bummed they didn't include ginger in the box but they did give soy sauce and chopsticks. -1* because it took much longer than quoted for my order and because the packaging was cracked and so when I tried to use the top as a "bowl" for soy sauce it leaked and got all over my countertop. Nonetheless, I would definitely go back and would order the same thing. Highly recommend it for sushi in Malibu at prices almost unreal.

You can really taste the quality of the fish, and everything came out clean, well presented, and just really satisfying. Came at around 2 pm on a weekday so was luckily able to find a parking spot and there was no line to order. If it's busy, good luck. Food was delicious and priced well. Shrimp basket - 10/10 Shrimp were fried perfectly to be honest. Got 6 shrimp over french fries (the fries were also great, thicker pieces that were fried perfectly). Tartar sauce was great, the cocktail sauce as well (and I don't normally like cocktail sauce). Filled me up great. Small clam chowder - 7/10 Pretty solid clam chowder. I probably wouldn't get it again, but the first few spoonfuls were great and very enjoyable. Some of the clam towards the bottom was more chewy which wasn't ideal. Got a bread roll as well and it came with oyster crackers. Spent roughly $30 total, around $20 on the shrimp basket and another $6-7 on the clam chowder. Would 100% come here again, highly recommend if you're in the area looking for some tasty seafood.

We've tried the grilled salmon in the past- and it's nicely cooked and tasty - but the star of the show is their fried offerings. What could be better than a crisply fried piece of cod with delicious fries overlooking the ocean? They do a better job frying fish than much more expensive places (looking at you Santa Monica seafood restaurant). The coleslaw is always fresh, and we also love the creamy chowder, chock full of clam bits. My one note is that they do not season their food so you need to add salt and pepper to everything. The coleslaw benefits from salt and a squeeze of lemon or a few drops of the malt vinegar on the table (also good with the fries of course). I'm not sure why they don't season their fish or batter - but maybe they figure it's best to keep it unsalted and people can add seasoning? There is also hot sauce on the table which adds the perfect zing to the chowder. The people who run the place are friendly and the place is especially popular on weekends. I'd recommend coming midweek either before or after peak lunch hours. Highly recommend.

The service was attentive and friendly, and the portions were surprisingly generous. Everything we ordered was fresh and flavorful, but the tuna crispy rice was definitely the standout, it had the perfect balance of texture and flavor. The ponzu yellowtail was also exceptionally fresh, light, and refreshing. There are so many rolls on the menu that we wanted to try, so we'll definitely be back for another visit!

I honestly don't understand the hype around Shibuya Sushi…read more The fish itself seemed fresh and good quality, but that alone does not make great sushi. The rice was cold, packed too tightly, and tough, which really hurts the overall experience. A lot of the sushi was also overwhelmed by sauces, which covered up the flavor of the fish instead of highlighting it. Maybe this works if you like heavily dressed rolls, but it is not what I would call great sushi, especially by California standards. The wait was also frustrating, not just because it was long, but because of how poorly it seemed to be managed. It felt like regulars could walk up, say the right thing, and get seated while everyone else just stood around waiting. That kind of thing makes the experience feel pretty lousy. The restaurant itself is packed, loud, and cramped. The tables are tiny, and there are not many of them, so it is hardly a pleasant dinner experience. To me, this place feels more driven by hype, social media, and people following the crowd than by truly excellent sushi. I wanted to like it, but based on this visit, I would not go back.

I choose outside, and he tells me he'll bring a menu. Ten minutes pass. No menu. He never returns. Another employee - a woman with a long braid - is darting in and out, clearly busy, but never once acknowledges me or says hello. I eventually go inside to request a menu. The same young man asks if I'd like water; I say yes. The water never arrives. The woman with the long braid continues going in and out of the very small shop another five or six times. I'm seated directly outside the door, yet I'm completely ignored. A third employee appears, and it's clear there's confusion about who is doing what. Still, no one takes responsibility. I have to ask - again - if my order will be taken and also request water once more. At this point, I ask the young man directly whether I should just leave and go somewhere else, because it's obvious their operations aren't dialed in. I'm hungry and already know what I want: the blue crab roll and the Mexicali roll. The food comes out fairly quickly, and while it is fine and did what it needed to do, nothing ruins a meal faster than inattentive service. No one checks in to see if I need anything. At one point, the third employee mumbles a quick apology and mentions they want to close the shop door. I won't be coming back. The overall service communicated a clear lack of care, and what they managed to do exceptionally well was leave me with the impression that I didn't matter at all.

No. This isn't that kind of place, and Taisho doesn't have that kind of menu. However, is this a good place to listen to decent music, sip a fun cocktail, and pass around some aesthetic Asian fusion dishes? Absolutely. It's a vibe on the weekends, there's semi-patio seating in the back, and there's valet parking right out front on Ventura Blvd. Taisho is a good option for dinner before a night out, or to catch up with a friend. Seating options are plentiful, too. The bar area is nice, the seats are comfy. The interior can fill up during peak hours. The outside seating in the front is a hard pass for me because it's so close to the street and seems isolated from the rest, but some people do prefer to sit out there. Street parking is available albeit competitive. Don't forget to pay the meter and check posted signs.
