We made reservations for dinner while visiting Malibu. Our seat had amazing views overlooking the water, it was nice to have the heaters as it was a bit chilly the day of our reservation. Our server was great with good wine recommendations based on the steaks we ordered. We started with oysters, I loved the East Coast oysters, they were so flavorful and perfectly shucked. We both ordered steaks which were perfectly cooked and had such great flavor. It was a lovely meal with amazing views. We visited Geoffrey's in Malibu for Father's Day and were seated for their three-course prix fixe menu. Unfortunately, the experience did not live up to either the reputation or the price point. The meal started on a disappointing note with the watermelon salad. The watermelon was underripe and lacked flavor, and no salt, pepper, or fresh ground pepper was offered to help improve the dish. In fact, condiments were not brought to the table until the main course arrived. My tofu entrée was well prepared and was the strongest part of the meal. For cocktails, I ordered a Manhattan served up and was surprised to find it garnished with a bright red maraschino cherry, something I would expect from a casual bar rather than a restaurant of this caliber. My second drink, an Old Fashioned, was served with a more appropriate cherry garnish. The service issues were more concerning than the food. Our bill for three people came to just under $500, with each guest having only two drinks. The check included both a valet fee and a service fee, which led us to reasonably assume gratuity had already been included. After payment, our waiter chased down the gentleman in our party to inform him that an additional tip had not been added. He then added a gratuity on top of the service fee and valet charge. The situation should have ended there, but while we were waiting for our car, another staff member approached us and insisted that he had taken the wrong receipt. He explained that he had only taken his customer copy and that the signed receipt had been left behind. She continued to insist otherwise until I told her that the waiter had already taken the correct receipt and that she needed to speak with him directly. She eventually acknowledged that the waiter had not communicated the situation to her. Being approached multiple times over a settled check was uncomfortable, unnecessary, and left a poor final impression. Adding to the disappointment, the restaurant was aware that we were celebrating a birthday. The hostess acknowledged it upon arrival, yet there was no recognition during the meal--no complimentary dessert, no birthday message, and no gesture of any kind for the guest of honor. Geoffrey's undeniably offers beautiful ocean views, and that is the restaurant's greatest asset. However, for nearly $500 for three guests, the food and service did not justify the cost. Between the underwhelming opening course, confusing billing interactions, and lack of attention to a special occasion that had been noted in advance, the experience felt overpriced and surprisingly subpar. Overall great restaurant. Nice place to eat for some seafood by the beach. If you're lucky, they'll seat you closer to the edge so you have a better view, otherwise it's not a great view of the beach or anything except the sky haha. Food was decent, a little pricey for what it is but you're here for the vibes more than anything. Cant complain about service, the hostess, waiter, and valet were all nice. Unfortunately the only parking option will be valet so have that extra cost ready. They do allow you to pay for validation with your bill, so that's convenient. So, I was hosting two very beautiful models from Texas. They had asked me to enjoy some time at the beach and to have a very nice early dinner. Obviously, I knew just the perfect spot. I took them to Geoffrey's and it was the best experience for both of them! So, while I waited, they went and did their photos at the actual beach access. During that time, I had the absolute pleasure of interacting with Geoffrey's best server, Miss Arkia (please forgive me if I didn't spell your name correctly). She had a full section and yet, made time to offer me water and provide an amazing level of customer care. She is absolutely INCREDIBLE! I also had the honor of meeting two of the Managers, Allan and a lovely blonde Manager, who I'm afraid that I didn't her get name. I'm so sorry, as both of them deserve proper recognition. So friendly, professional and welcoming. Our server was Marci and she was very nice. We loved everything that we ordered. This included the carb cakes, fried oysters and a chicken Caesar salad. One of my guests had some very specific dietary restrictions and Marci made it happen. Shout out to the entire Geoffrey's team, who made my visitors understand why Malibu and their restaurant is so special. Arkia, you are the absolute best representative of the entire organization! I'm hoping that Allan gives you the recognition that you deserve! read more

Of course the views are unparalleled. Food is delicious. Disappointing to be told "we have a 2 hour limit on seating" and then not move the service along at all. We basically had to race at the end and still couldn't get out of there in the 2 hour time limit becomes it took almost an hour from handing the waiter the credit card right after we ordered dessert to when he finally rang us up. Super disappointing to be asked to honor a 2 hour time limit when the staff clearly doesn't. I guess they expect us to deal with it. read more

The appeal of Geoffrey's is the view that makes all your problems dissolve, and the buzz of comforting chatter. My party had made a reservation and had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated, which we spent at the bar. For such an upscale restaurant, the bar was underwhelming and had limited chairs. Highlights included a phenomenal lychee martini and the bread. May be a bit unfair of a rating, because other members of my party enjoyed their mains. As for mine, the paella was visually beautiful, but it did not taste as I expected. One unexpected moment was when my waiter lost my credit card. Although they tried to remedy the situation, it was very unprofessional, especially because I was traveling, and it put me out a bit. We also had a family brunch here last year on Father's Day. Geoffrey's is still the best, especially on a beautiful, clear, sunny day in Malibu. I had the seafood paella and a cappuccino, and my boyfriend had an omelette and a mimosa. The paella portion was very large, but honestly it wasn't that tasty. But the ocean view is absolutely lovely. (3/19/2023 - Sunday Brunch) I also came here with my parents for a Father's Day celebration. We had lunch here on Monday, June 13th, 2022. I took a day off that day, and it turned out to be such a great day. The view and the music created a wonderful ambiance. The atmosphere was perfect. The ocean view and the short walk to the beach were amazing. I especially loved the ocean-view seating. My dad had the crab cake eggs benedict, my mom had the tofu salad, and I had the chicken piccata with a strawberry lemonade. All of the food was good, but honestly I think the chicken piccata at The Cheesecake Factory is better. Oh... and the dessert, crème brûlée, was so good. This place is great for an upscale lunch or dinner with a beautiful ocean view. It was such a lovely time. He also passed away in October last year. It was an incredibly difficult time for me. I cried a lot, and for a long time I couldn't even look at the names of the restaurants we had visited together. It made me emotional and very sad. This is another place that holds many memories of my ex-boyfriend. Geoffrey's Malibu, along with Moon shadows, holds so many memories with my ex-boyfriend. This seaside restaurant has incredible ocean views. We've always had great food here, but on this visit it missed a beat. We've never seen it as busy as this visit and I will show them grace as they were completely full with graduates. Service by Austin and his associates was polished. My food was especially disappointing. The crab cake on the Benedict was flat as a pancake and barely warm, so were the roasted potatoes. The accompanying fruit was fresh. The salmon looked amazing, as did the scallops. Chicken piccata was a bit dry and didn't have much lemony flavor. Geoffrey's was wonderful! We had an ocean view outdoor table that was cozy and intimate to celebrate our engagement. Staff was very kind and prompt with service. We didn't feel rushed or pressured to order anything. Our server was very helpful when modifying menu options and responsive to questions. He even gave us a cute candle to celebrate and took our photo. Food was exceptional! The portion size was very reasonable and all our food was prepared well. The bread that came out before the meal was delightful. The bar made some of the best cocktails we have had. I really enjoyed our celebratory meal! I would highly recommend checking this place out. The most amazing experience I had for my birthday as a seafood and ocean lover that it had me crying at the end. The servers were so professional and amusing as they tried to guess my age. We were seated outdoors where the patio was lit by bonfire and fairy lights, giving it an intimate and comfy feeling. When our kids are home for the holidays, they always choose a place to take us for brunch. They have great memories coming to Geoffrey's since they were toddlers so it's quite nostalgic for them. Needless to say, the husband and I were so happy that they chose Geoffrey's this year. With the recent rain we were a bit worried that it would be too wet or overcast. It was not! It turned out to be an absolutely perfect sunny, clear day. It seems that many people were worried about the weather as well because the place stayed fairly empty for our entire visit. We have not had this experience for years. The menu has remained consistent -- we all selected our favorites. It was all quite delicious although everyone agreed that the rosemary rolls have gotten smaller and a bit denser. Marcie was our server -- she was exceptional. She anticipated our needs and handled the smallest details. With no crowd, fantastic weather and the glistening ocean as the backdrop -- we had an absolutely beautiful time! read more

I've been coming to Geoffrey's for years, and my friend recently took me there for my birthday. Unfortunately, the experience left us feeling unwelcome. As soon as we sat down, we were greeted with, "You have two hours to dine." It wasn't the warm welcome we expected. We told our waiter we planned to enjoy a couple of drinks before ordering and would happily take our meal to go if time became an issue. He was very accommodating. While we were still enjoying our first drink, the manager came over to remind us of the two-hour limit and that the kitchen would close at 3:00. Since we arrived at 1:00 and there were plenty of empty tables, the reminder felt unnecessary and made us feel rushed rather than valued. We were so uncomfortable that we asked for the check before ordering, although the manager later convinced us to stay. Geoffrey's is about more than just the food--it's the atmosphere, the views, and the experience. It was disappointing to feel that, before we had even ordered, the focus was already on when we would be leaving. Save the two-hour limit for tables that have finished ordering and are simply lingering. If guests are still ordering food and drinks, they shouldn't feel pressured to leave. Our bill was $255, plus a $45 tip, and I expected a much warmer, more welcoming experience. read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was bad enough that I felt compelled to write one. I'm sticking to the facts and letting others draw their own conclusions. We arrived for our reservation and still waited about 15 minutes past our reservation time before being seated. We were then told that the only available table for a party of two was all the way in the back of the restaurant. Normally, that wouldn't be a huge issue. However, while we were waiting and after we were seated, we noticed several open tables toward the front, and it appeared that the non-white guests--including us--were consistently being seated in the back. My husband and I are both of Indian descent. I'm careful not to accuse businesses of racism without good reason, but the pattern was difficult to ignore and made us feel uncomfortable. Our waiter was genuinely kind and professional. Once a few waterfront tables opened up, we politely asked if it might be possible to move. He checked with the host stand, then returned with the host, who immediately told us that they "don't usually move people after they've ordered," before saying she'd make an exception. The comment felt unnecessary and came across as rude. We thanked her anyway and moved. Unfortunately, the food didn't redeem the experience. The mussels smelled and tasted overly fishy--far from fresh--and the meal overall was disappointing. The final interaction was what sealed this review. When we went to retrieve our car from valet, my husband asked if the valet needed the ticket. His response was, "Yes--and gratuity." We had intended to tip, but we didn't have cash and would have happily paid electronically. The way it was demanded immediately rubbed us the wrong way. As we drove away, he said, "I'll see you next time, boss," in a tone that felt more intimidating than friendly. Whether that was his intent or not, it left us with an incredibly uncomfortable feeling. We left disappointed by far more than the food. Between the seating, the dismissive attitude from the host, the mediocre meal, and the unpleasant valet interaction, the entire experience left a terrible impression. The view is beautiful, but that's the only positive thing I can say about this place. I'd much rather brave the Nobu crowds than return to this spot. read more

Honestly one of the worst experiences I've ever had with completely awful food. I refused to eat here again after our first time here, but my girlfriend is more forgiving and tried to give them a second (and recently to my dismay, a 3rd...) chance. This is the final straw for the both of us. Her last time she ate there (this past week), there were literal pieces of shell in her eggs (pic below). The steak was made medium well instead of medium rare as requested and after she showed them the eggs with shells in it, along with the overcooked steak, instead of recooking both the steak and eggs, they only recooked the eggs. She noted that her avocado had some strange artificial lemon flavor added to it that made it unappetizing. The pico de gallo lacked flavor altogether. Upon this ridiculous mishap messing up the steak preparation and shells in the eggs, you'd think they would offer something as a condolence to this, but they shockingly offered nothing, which was pretty bewildering. There are a ton of great places around the Malibu area, this one should be AVOIDED at all costs, as they clearly only care about your money and not about the experience you have dining with them. This place would be a 5/5 and let me explain. We were here for valentines day celebration and all the food and ambiance was nothing short of amazing. We ordered 3 appetizers which were delicious and topped it off with the 16 oz Ribeye that was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Near the end of the dinner when the plates were collected the knives and forks fell from the plate and spilled over me without any apology or comment after. I would just recommend that the service here doesn't rush when things get busy, as I had to go on the day with the stain caused by the incident. If you are reading these reviews management, just know that food/ambiance is great, but its not worth rushing to compromise the quality of service. read more

Personally, I wish they had a lobster option or something else dealing with Seafood as they were right next to the beach. Service was good upon arriving but felt rushed and unpleasant towards the end. Manager mistakenly thought I took both receipts as if I was trying to dine n dash. I pulled out the "customer copy" receipt out of my pocket- the one with the smily face and she still had to look through it for a couple of minutes just to be thorough. My wife and I went to Geoffrey's for a Valentine's Day brunch. The service was amazing-- our sever was attentive, kind, and very friendly. He made us feel very welcome and was the best part of our experience. The ambiance and view was also great -- an ocean view with lots of plants and greenery was a very pleasant setting for a Saturday lunch. The food was not very good at all -- we got the tuna tartare, which was ok. A little bit too much sauce and the tuna wasn't very fresh tasting. I got the Chilean sea bass, which was also just ok. The fish wasn't very high quality and the pineapple on top tasted like it was from a can. My wife got the filet mignon with Chimichurri sauce. The filet was really bad -- it tasted boiled. The Chimichurri sauce was more of an oil than a Chimichurri -- you could get something much better from the local grocery store. Title: Extremely Disappointed After 20 Years of Loyalty As a local and loyal customer of Geoffrey's for over 20 years, I've celebrated countless milestones here with family and friends. However, my experience today, on my own birthday, was deeply disappointing. This was the first time a birthday celebration was planned for me at Geoffrey's, and sadly, it turned out to be a disaster. We were seated at an uncomfortable table with minimal ocean views and heavy foot traffic from the waitstaff. When we noticed a better table available, we politely asked to be moved but were told it was being held for a party of five. That party later turned out to be a group of three, waiting on two more guests. When the table next to us opened, we asked again, but it was given to a tourist family instead. Despite asking multiple times, no effort was made to accommodate us. We brought our concerns to the manager, Sharon, several times. Each time we were met with excuses instead of solutions. For a restaurant that has built its name on exceptional service, this was incredibly disheartening. We waited over an hour for our food, while the table seated well after us was served before us. When we asked why, the manager said we had ordered too many appetizers, which was simply not true. We had only ordered one watermelon salad and had specifically told our waiter to place the order right away since the children were hungry. Later, we were told the delay was because my salmon had to be remade. The explanations were inconsistent and dismissive. We ordered pasta and chicken for the kids, my salmon, and French toast. The food was good and helped offset the experience slightly, but it did not make up for the poor service and lack of hospitality. What was most disappointing was that after everything, nothing was done to acknowledge my birthday or make the experience feel special. Not even a dessert was offered or comped. When I mentioned that I would likely leave a Yelp review, the manager simply said, "Go ahead and Yelp," with a dismissive tone that showed zero care for guest satisfaction. As someone who works in hospitality and understands ADA and fire hazard protocols, I was particularly disturbed by the excuses given for denying a simple table change. I hesitated to write this review because of how many wonderful experiences I have had here in the past, but this one cannot be ignored. Management needs to be reevaluated. The level of service we received today does not align with the standards Geoffrey's was once known for. At this point, I don't think I would go back. And to my Malibu family, we may need to reconsider this place altogether. read more

For years I've wanted to try Geoffrey's, and we finally made a day out of it while celebrating a graduation. Located right next to the beach in Malibu, you'll get a gorgeous view of the water - wasn't too hot with just the perfect breeze. They have a nice bar with a good alcohol selection. Bar was open seating, so we grabbed a seat to enjoy a drink while they prepared our table. We came for brunch, and they had a nice menu selection. Their Paella was good - packed with tasty seafood and meats - I was pleasantly surprised by how much they put inside. And the broth was delicious - complimented the dish well. Their Grilled Hangar Steak was terrible. It was like the steak had been kept frozen, improperly defrosted, and quickly cooked ... Definitely not enjoyable, especially considering how much you're paying for their meal. Plus, the chimichurri was some of the worst we've ever had. It might have been busy, but that's not an excuse for poor food preparation. Parking is valet only. You might be able to find some form of street parking, but it's not going to be easy, and it might not even be close. Definitely make reservations. They do take walk-ins, and if it's not busy, not an issue. But we came right after a local graduation, and the restaurant was busy. Overall, I'd come here for the view and ambiance. Drinks were good and worth it, but not so fantastic I would come back here for them. For the price we paid, I would've expected the food to be a bit better. read more

This is definitely my go to place for a romantic dinner. The views overlooking the ocean are just as you would expect when dining in Malibu. This was our 4th visit and just as with previous visits, the food did not disappoint. We started with a pair of martinis (Raspberry Lemon and Passion), to accompany both, Seared Ahi Tuna & Crab cake dishes. We then proceeded to enjoy their signature Paellas! I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was frustrating enough that I feel it's important to share. To start with the positives, because there were some, the service was outstanding. Every staff member we interacted with was kind, attentive, and professional. Our espresso martinis were excellent, and my fiancée's food was genuinely great. She had the seabass, which was perfectly prepared, and oysters that were fresh and enjoyable. Unfortunately, my meal was a completely different story. I ordered the hanger steak with scrambled eggs, and both were overwhelmingly salty. The steak was over-seasoned to the point of being barely edible, and the eggs were so salty they were simply not edible at all. I tried to push through because I know I'm someone who watches sodium and restaurant food can sometimes taste saltier, but this was far beyond that. This was excessive. The guacamole and pico de gallo also tasted like they had been sitting out far too long, clearly not fresh and likely from the day before. I ended up sending the food back, something I almost never do. I wasn't expecting a full refund, but I was surprised that there was no effort made to offer any kind of discount. To be fair to our server, I didn't make a big scene, I simply said the food was too salty to eat. In hindsight, I probably should have taken the offer to have it remade, but at that point my appetite was gone. What made it worse is that I left the restaurant still hungry and really disappointed. It's especially unfortunate because we had actually been considering this restaurant for an upcoming graduation reception. After this experience, that's completely off the table. We won't be returning. It's frustrating when a place can clearly execute well in some areas but completely miss the mark in others. I truly hope this was just an off day, but based on this visit, I can't justify giving it another chance. read more
