Worst build a bear experience I've ever had. We go to b-a-b at least twice a year. This is our first time at this location and I almost walked out while dealing with the lady at the sound/scent area. She was rude and just didn't seem to fit the b-a-b experience. Then a guy helped us with stuffing and he was so mono tone and had no energy towards of giving a proper b-a-b experience to a child. Again thought of just leaving the stuffed bear and walk out. Decided to stay and get clothes and accessories. Got to the register and the lady was amazing, she is the reason this is 2 stars instead of 1. The only problem coming to the store is you'll end up buying clothes and shoes and all kinds of things for your stuffed animal service is pretty good. I always went to Build a Bear when I was a kid, and this was very nostalgic going back! I took my girlfriend here for a date, and we customized bears for each other. It was a fast and easy process, and you first start by picking your animal! We chose a brown and purple cow, haha. We then went to get accessories and clothes for our cows; I luckily found a 49ers shirt for my little guy. Go, Niners! My favorite part was making voice memo buttons for our cows. If you squeeze its hand, there's a voice memo message. The next step was to fill our cows with stuffing. We did a ritual for putting in the cow's heart (satin heart tag thing). The gal working was very conversational, and we talked about bowling with her. Overall, it was a memorable experience, but we will not return for a while, just because we don't need to! We got the dollar bear for our baby's first birthday. It was so fun for us and she enjoyed it too. They have a birthday bundle so our bread didn't have to come home naked we paid 29 dollars for a skirt, shirt, birthday hat, and our voice recording telling her happy birthday. This place annoyed me. They had about 6 or 7 employees. Very crowded. Only one person working the stuffing station so that was almost a 20-25 minute line. My son did a voice recording from his phone and they lady told him it would be ok. We couldn't test it there because of the noise. When we listened in the car, all we heard was background noise and the employee talking. When I called customer service, they said "oh sorry. You can bring it back....." AT MY OWN EXPENSE. No. This is ridiculous. If she would have said that the recorder was not isolated and back up noise would be louder that the recording, we would have used the websites. My daughter had a few BAB gift cards so she was able to get several characters during the visit, and even with a busy store, Tabitha took the time to make the visit special for my daughter and had her grinning from ear to ear. At a time when many people do not seem to care about putting in 100% effort at their jobs, Tabitha put in 1000% effort and made my daughter feel like a princess during the visit. This past weekend my daughter celebrated her 6th birthday. She wanted a party at Build-A-Bear. I booked the party online on March 1 for the Cerritos location. On Tuesday leading up to the event, I called BAB to make sure everything was in place for the party. The lady over the phone stated she didn't see my reservation and couldn't help me. She told me to call customer service and said they closed at 9pm. I called no answer. I attempted to call BAB Cerritos several times after and no one picked up the phone. BAB Cerritos did not try to fix the problem or even offer me an alternative. I will never step foot in a place who's job is to make children smile when their employees cannot even handle a mix up on their part. Now Nat at BAB Del Amo, her team saved the day. They accommodated me and serviced my 14 children. Nat stayed after her shift after hearing my situation and handled my daughter's party with grace and ease. I am truly greatful for BAB Del Amo. From my past two experiences, a year apart I would rate this particular build a bear workshop a 5! Located inside Los Cerritos Mall, closer to the mall entrance by Macy's. This build a bear is nice and clean, the lighting is bright and very inviting for children and adults. The line for stuffing and filling the animals can get quite long and the wait takes a while because each customer gets to pick songs, add a heartbeat etc to their bear at an additional charge. There are 2 workers max to fill the bear depending on how busy they are. Each time I've been here, the bear stuffer was very nice and kind to my daughter. They're very enthusiastic and caring towards kids. Unlike another build a bear I've been to. Afterwards, you can choose clothes and accessories for your plush, head to the station to name it and receive a printed birth certificate and head over to the cashier to check out. Tip: Sign up online at the Build a bear website and when it's your child's birthday month, you go in stores to get their specific "birthday bear" and pay the age your child is turning. Nowadays, people have an opportunity to jazz up that teddy bear and give it more of a unique appearance. Build A Bear Workshop has been around for a while now. You pick the outer portion of the toy and take it over to the machine to get it stuffed. You pump your foot up and down to make it nice and plump. They'll have you say some kind words and some other cutesy stuff before shoving a heart inside of the toy. After that, it's sewn up and given to the lucky recipient. At this point, you can add clothing accessories to spruce up your creation. Now you've got your personalized little creature! Well, I didn't know that they also host parties at all of their locations. So we called their toll free number and booked a birthday party for my niece. Each child would be able to pick a teddy bear up to a certain price point and add one outfit to make it super cute. I really liked the whole setup for the party. There's a large whiteboard in the back of the store where they write a birthday message for the birthday boy or girl. Kids play games with the host and have fun on a little scavenger hunt. It's also great because not only does the birthday kid get a teddy bear but so do all of their guests! The children really enjoyed this opportunity to take part in the festivities. It should be noted that food is not allowed in the store so you'll have to enjoy cake and ice cream at a different location. We had cake and ice cream at a nearby restaurant so it worked out well for us. The party was a success thanks to how well they managed the store. Even though other customers were coming in while the party is going on, they kept the kids focused and together. For the price of the party, I'd say that it's well worth it for kids to come here for a memorable experience. All of the kids were happy and definitely appreciated the opportunity to celebrate their friend's birthday at such a fun location. read more

So all Build-a-Bear Workshops are mostly set up the same way and have a pretty simple layout. What makes this specific store 5 stars is the customer service. I have been to the one at the Del Amo mall and had less then stellar service. The Cerritos one is a different story. Usually it is packed here on the weekends especially during the holidays. They do try to make the lines go fast though and they always seem to have a smile on. We came here since my son wanted a chase one for Christmas. The girl who helped us stuff our animal was super friendly and made it such an enjoyable experience for all of us especially my son. She was really interacting with my son and everyone who I seen that went before us. It's because of her that this store received a high review. I feel like you need friendly and happy staff especially if you are working with mostly kids all day and she made sure to do all of that. read more

We had a great time with the staff member and our child was in Cloud 9 throughout the entire visit. The prices are on par with any experience based purchase, our bear had a base price and with all the add-ons and clothing came out to about $36. Considering that the stuffed animal was custom made by my daughter, I found the price to be well justified. I'm not one that minds visiting Build-A-Bear Workshop periodically with our small one. We were just walking around the mall and my husband decided to take our son to look around hes about to be 2 years old he instantly liked the frozen collection. He picked the olaf. Today, I witnessed this entire team get bullied by a customer, and they all responded with grace and respect. The customer was upset because the team did not drop everything to attend to her and told the manager she was terrible for hiring the crew. The store is rather small so everyone could hear the comotion. I don't see how insults and threatening to call another store to complain helped the customer or what she tried to achieve by bringing race into a children's toy shop but it's so sad to see young people deal with childish adults. It's a stuffed animal shop, people, for goodness sakes.... It's not that serious. Samantha and Meztli were super helpful and didn't deserve to be mistreated. When the manager came out to assist the upset customer, she held her calm and tried to diffuse the situation, but as usual, an unruly customer just wanted to get the last word. If only people would practice patience and kindness, we might not have a labor shortage because I definitely would not put up with that behavior. read more

Ugh, I definitely feel conflicted about writing this review for the pay your age event they had. It was nice that they had a lot of options stock as some stores sold out of their bear skins but at the same time, the line organization was a bit chaotic and I didn't feel like the staff really tried to clear the lines very fast. I brought my family there at 830am and the line was already out the door on the Dicks side entrance of the mall. The line barely moved for hours. By 950am or so, they already closed the line off and sent folks home with coupons for $15 bears at their next visit. Yay I thought, we made the cut off. The line did not move for hours and when it did, we were seriously moving 5 steps or so. Of course it was a horribly hot day which didn't help either. I guess at some point, the staff was then handing out leave the line then return slips which someone with a megaphone then announced was no longer valid at that point. "I repeat, if you leave your place in line, you will not be able to return to your spot. You are no longer able to return to original place." It didn't apply to me since I never got any slips or anything. A couple hours later, we hear they are trying to clear the dicks sporting goods line because it is still blocking their store. No movement in line for another 4 hours. Finally reached the point where Dick's is and waited another 6 hours. Right when we thought we were almost there because a larger group was let is, the line stopped moving again. The final stretch for us took 5.5 hours. It was 11pm by the time we walked in the store. I guess it would have been worse if they ran out of items to choose from. of course the popular items were sold out but they had almost everything in stock. If I had known it would have taken this long to get a pay your age day bear, I would have NEVER done it. It was definitely a painful experience I will never forget since I had to drag my two little ones with me. Things I felt the store manager should have done: 1) cleared the lines a little more evenly from both ends, Dicks and the Macy's end of the store. 2) the option to pick a skin and stuff it another day should have been giving to the customers in line since the line was so long. *you can pick a skin early and leave or continue to wait and stuff the bear today. 3) they probably should have set a time limit of how long you could be in the store to prevent further delays. Kudos to all the parents that made it out alive that day with a build a bear. Kudos to the workers who had to stay all those hours that day. I wonder if this event will happen again next year lol read more
