I spent the last several months preparing my backyard so that I could install artificial turf. I needed to build a small retaining wall and finish installing pavers for the fire pit area. I went to Yelp and search the reviews of turf companies. I choose three companies to get bids from and of the three, I selected DuraTurf. The best decision I ever made regarding landscaping. Olivier was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. He wasn't just a salesman. He was truly interested in providing me with the best product and service possible. With the other two bids, I felt as if I was dealing with used car salesmen. When I finally had my backyard prepped and ready, I received very sad news that the owner of DuraTurf had passed unexpectedly. Olivier graciously returned my deposit and informed me of a few other companies that could do the job for me. A couple of the companies happened to be ones that I had previously checked out and I was not satisfied that I was getting the best deal. When I found out that Olivier had managed to find new jobs for his installers at BuildCal, I immediately called them to give me a quote. Not only did they match the quote from DuraTurf, they sent the exact same installers who were originally scheduled to do the job. These guys were great and wow do they know what they are doing. There were six of them working all day in my yard. Each one of them worked as hard as the next. You can always tell when folks take pride in their work and these guys were no exception. They meticulously manicured the base layer until it was perfect. They clean up everything afterwards and left my yard looking beautiful. Unbelievably poor customer service experience. Everything started out great but unfortunately there was never any follow up from Arin. I spoke to Arin on 12/21 and made arrangements to have him come out to our property on 1/4. On 1/4, I reached out to him to see whether or not he was coming by as we had discussed since I had not yet heard from him. He called me to let me know his brother would be coming by instead of him. That was fine. His brother was punctual, professional and seemed very knowledgeable and nice. His brother advised that Arin would be following up with us in a few weeks time as he would be away for his honeymoon. Totally fine... fast forward a month and I reach out to Arin because I haven't heard from him yet. He called me and asked me about what was discussed with his brother, I brought him up to speed and he said he would get back to me with the quote. He never got back to me. I followed up with him once again and he has not so much as bothered replying to my inquiries. I've attached a screenshot to validate my claims. Really poor and undeserved customer service. It's too bad because we still need someone to do the work and clearly it isn't going to be BuildCal landscape company. read more

I had high hopes for this contractor, but the company did not deliver. They were rather quick to come for an estimate. The final estimate for the job was submitted rather quickly as well (some new lawn, and update for sprinkler system). We received a first approximate period for the start of our project . No set date, just a "in 2-3 weeks". When the week of the start of the project rolled in, I still had no update. I contacted the owner by email, and was told "2 more weeks". After 2 weeks, I asked for another update... and then I was told "by the end of next week". When the end of that week came by, I was rather annoyed by the lack of scheduling and follow up from the company. I waited few more days into the weekend, and contacted again the owner to actually cancel the job. The last I heard from the owner by email was that his house was threatened by the recent fires, and he was guilt tripping me for canceling the job on him. I can certainly have some compassion when such event happen, but even just before the fire started, I was still in total darkness regarding the start of my project. He agreed to cancel the project, and I asked him for a VOIDED contract, but that still hasn't happened. Maybe my project was too small, or not interesting enough, but that was too bad because I had some bigger & juicier projects to get quoted on... Anyways... Good luck if you deal with these guys.... read more

This review is for the estimate process, and not actual work. Olivier is very warm and very professional, with great ideas. He is also very quick in response time with estimate and any follow up questions. The job is a dog play space/daycare at a kennel under complete renovation, and his knowledge of materials to keep surfaces cool (protect dogs' paws) and implement efficient drainage was impressive. When I didn't understand what he meant about perforated underlayers, he took the time to go take photos with his own phone and send them to me so I could better grasp the diagram. His estimate was the highest though, and a cost control consultant managing the renovation process for us ultimately decided that EcoGrass, whose proposal total was significantly lower, could install sufficient drainage and a good hose-down turf just as well. I would absolutely consider Olivier in the future for my own projects. I am sure his prices are worth it. And another thing if you're doing something for your dogs, or you're a commercial animal facility: Olivier is an animal person. He has dogs of his own and is good around them. read more

From the first time we met Olivier, we felt that he understood what we wanted. Form the very beginning, communication with Arin was a hassle. Dealing with SoCal Water Smart was much easier. About two months into landscaping project he told us that the government moves slow on approval. After checking with the government agency, I found out that he had not even submitted the application. We were under the impression since he said he had done 50+ projects like this that he would guide us through the process. Half of the time we had to push and prod him to see what was going on. We were under the impression that the government would pay for everything. It wasn't until the bill for $9000.00+ that he demanded payment in full. Also the weed barrier that he promised would keep the weeds out does not work. Savings that we should have from our gardener is lost now. Also, the $9000.00 project took TWO days to complete. If you had 8 employees working at $20.00 per hour for 20 hours that would equal $3200.00 plus a couple thousand more for dump fees, etc. $5200.00 minus $9000.00+ is a good profit margin. The last emails from Arin were totally unprofessional and included words such as: "As clearly mentioned, all documentation is sent to them even whatever extra they wanted (See below). I said please don't create confusion since I'm already dealing with them. By acting on your own and ignoring my request, I'm fully withdrawing from helping anymore on the application. You and owner will be fully responsible continuing from this point". You see here he is accusing me of making confusion. This is after one conversation with the government that he had not done his job! Don't use this guy. All he wants is your money read more
