Had one of the best variants of eggs Benedict today at an old school family run kitchen. I ordered eggs Benedict, our waitress Rebecca asks "do you like avocado?" Then "what do you think about "bacon marmalade?" And steered me to the Malibu.... English muffin with avocado, bacon marmalade (yes marmalade), topped with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce. Just had a great breakfast at Bullard's American Cafe on Saturday morning. It took me by surprise that Warrington possessed what I enjoy most from a early day meal - old school charm, slightly worn yellow Formica counter, deeply involved husband and wife ownership with the former on the grill and later working the front of the house making customers feel like valued members of the family. And, let's not forget, exceptional food and warm friendly service. We sat on a couple of spinners at the window end of the counter. Paige approached us with a bright smile, bobbed blond hair, and menus. She and the two other young women in black worked non-stop to keep up with the rush that seemed to follow us in and quickly filled up the booths, tables and stools. Luckily, we ordered ahead of the tidal wave, and received our platters in a few minutes. I went with a short stack of french toast covered in strawberries, bananas and blueberries (red, white & blue). A smear of butter and pour of syrup (maple?) and I was a happy guy. The taste of the egg/vanilla mix saturated the bread and was grilled to optimum; cooked through and through with caramelized edges. Loved it! Our other dish, Famished Farmer, was a special egg mix with potato, onion, ham and tomato, with a side of homefries; also solid and enjoyable. A black pepper shake or two brought up the flavor. We would ask for Tabasco next time to set it on fire. The homefries had great texture and taste. We learned Bullard's offered dinner Thursday and Friday evenings. Meatloaf? Yes! Stumbled upon Bullard's through Yelp. My daughter and I wanted a quick lunch, and considered Turning Point (which she loves) and iHOP, but I wanted to try something local. Very glad we did. I had corned beef hash with eggs and hash browns, while she had two of the largest pancakes we'd ever seen (chocolate chip, no less). The service was friendly and fast, the food was hot, fresh and perfectly prepared, and the prices were very reasonable. It was so good that we went back the next day. On the oral recommendation of fellow Yelper, Cousin Steve, we popped into this little cafe for breakfast this morning, and it exceeded our expectations in every way. The litmus test always is the coffee: Here it was hot, fresh, bold and plentiful. Not quite La Colombe's level but unassailably superior to the other local breakfast joints. Mr. M and I each had omelets. Mr. M had the Californian, which even though meat-free, was declared delicious and inhaled with lightning speed. It was obvious that all of the ingredients were fresh. Mine was a "make your own" omelet with raw baby spinach, tomatoes and feta. The omelet was light and chock full of ingredients. The feta was so fresh that I discerned only a pleasant, salty note and none of the sometimes-sour/gamy nose associated with feta. The home fries (made with redskin potatoes) were extraordinary, managing to have a crispy exterior with a lovely creamy interior that readily yielded to the edge of a fork tine. Even the rye toast was terrific: it clearly was from a good bread bakery and was perfectly toasted, as evidenced by an even caramel color throughout. Bullard's has a good-sized counter on one side and a series of cozy booths along the other wall. The floor was spotless; always a positive sign whether in a restaurant or in a home. The service, largely handled by adorable, fresh-faced high school kids, was efficient and attentive. We are adding Bullard's to our regular breakfast rotation and look forward to our next visit. UPDATE: Through the course of return visits, we learned that the chef-owner-restaurant namesake is a CIA graduate, unsurprising given the quality of Bullard's product. We also understand some exciting menu changes are upcoming and will reflect Chef Bullard's familiarity with southwestern and California cuisine. Among these will be huevos rancheros, one of the Mister's favs, and for which an extended trip to No Libs or South Street has been required to quell the yen. We continue to be mystified by the critical reviews as we have experienced NONE of the identified issues during our dozen visits. read more

I ordered the red, white, and blue French toast. It came out cold and burnt, not just a little too golden brown, but black. It was terrible. There were not enough strawberries, bananas, or blueberries to go with it either. The hash browns were deep fried and greasy. TRULY AMAZING IN EVERY ASPECT !!! This morning I had the special, Omelette with spinach, sharp white cheddar ,ham , served with homefries O'Brien topped with Irish cheddar.( Delicious and then some) My wife had a chicken salad sandwich on wheat topped with a hard boiled egg. Topped off with a Strawberry Banana muffin. I honestly can't say how delicious this was because there are no words to do it justice. It's been a very long time since I've visited Bullards. Many years ago, I found it to be a decent neighborhood spot for breakfast. I am a big fan of breakfast. Bullards provided a nice meal for a reasonable price. The servers were always very young kids. Truly, the service probably could've been better, but I like seeing young kids taking initiative. What a great find. I saw a local add in our hometown flyer and decided to try this small, quaint place for Sunday breakfast. As we entered the restaurant, we noticed every booth, table and counter space was full. We were greeted by a very nice lady holding a coffee pot who assured us the wait would not be long. My husband and I both noticed patrons getting up from their seats and going from table to table to talk to other patrons. Laughter filled the air as each person was greeted at the new table like family. Although it was obvious these people did not come together, the warmth of this place seemed like everyone was family. The lady who seated us was right, we were seated shortly and we were surprised because as soon as she saw someone get up, she made sure the table was bussed and clean so we did not have to wait extra. She immediately gave us menus and offered us a free mimosa because they were celebrating their 3 year anniversary. The menu was large and we asked our sweet waitress what she recommended. She gave us a big smile, and highly recommended the pancakes and a few other things. She did mention that everything was home made. My husband chose the avocado toast and I had the corn bread with sausage gravy. Both were great and Homemade!! Our coffee cup never got past half empty and always remained hot. Wow. This place was great. This small cafe has fantastic food, prices, and even better service. The owner of the restaurant was attentive from the start seating us, making sure we were served, and bringing around coffee throughout the meal. The food was tasty and came in good portion sizes - you won't get skimped here. My personal favorite part of the meal was the potatoes - and my lovely girlfriend, after saying the potatoes as well initially (I told her she couldn't pick the same thing as me), said the service was her favorite part.
