This is definitely the place that I'm willing to take my 2002 BMW 330i to from now on. These guys are professional, trustworthy, and very friendly. I've been having a major issue of stuttering from my car for the past year, going from mechanic shop to mechanic shop, with no one capable of figuring out the issues with my car. I've been bringing my Mini Cooper to Bullet for years. I got a recommendation for this place from my previous mechanic when I moved to Costa Mesa. I have always felt like they treat me fairly and take good care of me. I've never felt pressured to get a bunch of things worked on when I bring it in for a certain issue. I first called for an oil change on my e92 m3. I got quoted for 150-160 over the phone.. So i drove from Rancho Cucamonga to Costa Mesa for an oil change. The cons- I waited in the lobby for an hour. Mickey comes out and says.. we used 9 quarts instead of 8..a little more than expected. Thus the new price of 189 after taxes.. Although changing the price from an original estimate without the customers consent is illegal. its OK i understand. the 150-160 for an oil change was too good to be true. However, as I have changed many oil changes with the dealer and have myself. I always used 9 quarts. This just made me feel a little uneasy about their honesty. The plus side however... they did a fantastic job. Checked the oil level properly and finished fairly quickly. I know it took 1 hour... but they were VERY busy. full shop repairing on other bmws. All in all. I would come back here again..price is still better than the dealer and the mechanics definitely seem to know more than the dealer. This is judging from a few friends that have worked at a local bmw dealerships.. (they're not that sharp) read more

I feel like these guys have a passion for their work. They are not looking to get your money, they are looking to keep more BMWs on the road. I had an adaptive headlight failure and took it to the dealer. Dealer said I need to replace the whole headlight ($2100+). Bullet Performance looked at my car and said its just needs a motor replaced. Only cost around $375 with labor. Don't take your car to the dealership unless you're under warranty. These guys will save you tons of money and do only what you need done and not give you a bunch of "suggested" fixes. Have had an excellent experience Bullet. I've found that they're more knowledgeable than other bmw indy shops I've spoken to. For example, said to them i had a brake squeal issue. They knew right away that it was a known issue with the brake sensor on my year and chassis, whereas I've gone to multiple dealers whose services reps didn't know or weren't allowed to state it was an "official" problem. Usually able to get an appointment pretty easily, and I like how they just give you a straight price right away over the phone. Labor rates are reasonable. There are a couple of BMW indy shops that will make you come in before you can get a quote. Also like the fact that they don't try to sell repairs you don't need. read more

We are so glad we read the reviews and, based on that, we called and spoke with Terry. Spoke to him about our issues with our 2012 328i Beamer. He immediately knew what the possible problems could be, and gave us a rough estimate on the costs. So, we made a appointment and we later drove by to see their shop. It looked impressive. It was our first time there and everyone was so nice, especially Terry. They inspected the car and the problem was as previously stated. They fixed the car in about an hour and the cost was right on the money. While the car was being worked on, we asked Terry a lot questions about our Beamer, i.e., possible further issues and expenses. Terry was so knowledgable and nice. Going to Bullet Performance is less like going to a car repair shop and more like going to a happiness dispensary. I always leave this place feeling light and lifted. Today I dropped by over my lunch break for a blinker light that wasn't working. The Bullet team was on their lunch break too, but Mickey stopped what he was doing to take on my job. And it turned out to be a job. The bulb itself wasn't the problem. It was the assembly that houses the bulb that had to be replaced, because its plastic was melting and interfering with the electrical signal to the bulb. So Mickey raised my car on the lift, found a matching assembly in his box of tricks, installed the new assembly through my wheel well, and then refused to accept payment from me for any part of this job. Yes really. And that was just today. When I brought my car in one month ago for some oil leak related repairs, I remember leaving feeling similarly amazed at what I had experienced. The cleanliness and organization of the garage and of their receiving lobby (and bathrooms!) alone are something special. I have no intention of going to any other BMW repair shop for as long as I live. read more

I am buying a used BMW X5 from a used car dealer in Orange County and, since I am in Northern California, needed a mechanic to look it over without me there before I drive down to complete the purchase. I was very concerned because the X5 was a New Jersey / New York car that might have rust or corrosion. I found out after calling that Sterling BMW doesn't perform pre-purchase checks on BMWs. Bullet Performance was recommended to me by another shop as the "best BMW shop in Orange County." Having had really bad (and ultimately costly) inspections before from the nationwide used car check companies on the internet (never again!), I wasn't sure what to expect. I called Bullet and Nate got the car in immediately although they were very busy. Before the end of the day, Terry called me back to give me an oral report on the vehicle and to answer my questions. He even gave me his opinion on this particular engine and the types of problems that I could expect to have with it in the future. And he then sent me a very thorough written report on the vehicle. Paint, tires, brakes, everything inside, engine (found a few leaks). I couldn't have been more pleased, and, although I am not a local so will never have the opportunity to use them again, if I was local, this would be my shop. FIVE STARS ALL AROUND. I lived in OC for about 10 years during the 90's. I started coming to Bullet just after they opened nearly 20 years ago and have been bringing mine and my family BMW's to them ever since. Even after I moved 300 miles away 10 years ago, I still bring them my cars. They are the only shop I will let work on my BMW's. Mickey, Terry, Mike, Travis, Peter and the rest the Bullet team are awesome. I just had them do a bunch of catch-up maintenance on an older BMW which my son recently bought and as usual, they did a great job at a fair price and got it done when they said they would. These guys aren't bad, if you have a lot of money to spend on them and you don't pay attention if/when something goes wrong. When you catch an issue (or even hint that there could be an issue by asking a question as a concerned consumer), I found that the people in charge of this place, namely Mickey the owner and Mike (zero patience), are NOT ALOHA AT ALL!!! Took my car into these guys for a timing chain replacement, which (by their own description) required basically all parts from the bumper to the block to come off, which means ya typically replace all the parts since they are already off the car. Well, I didn't mind - not at all, and it cost me thousands to do this. HOWEVER, (as can happen sometimes) something appeared to be not right. It was less than a week later that my "Check Coolant" light came on. So, like anyone ... I topped 'er off and went about my business. After a few weeks, it came on again, then it got more frequent. At about the 3-month point I realized I had to take it back to them, so I called and just let them know what was happening, but that I was low on funds so I couldn't pay to have it looked at. They did NOT invite me to bring it in at that time. They just said "keep an eye on it." By the fourth month, I was carrying a gallon of coolant in my car ... but then ... one day (couple-a-weeks ago) ... I got out of the car and noticed there was some steam coming from under the hood and it smelled ... and indeed, the coolant reservoir had somehow accumulated so much pressure that it burst. So, I called Bullet, and Mickey said "it's easy to replace the collant reservoir, so I'd suggest you just do it yourself." So, I found an auto mechanic buddy of mine to help, and we replaced it. Next day, it overflowed again. I was thinking it was overheating, but my guage inside the car NEVER told me the engine was even hot. Frustrated, I took my car to a place that can do a pressure test - and they did. THey said it passed the pressure test. They also told me that my car had a blown head gasket!!! Yikes! So, I got my car towed BACK OVER TO BULLET AUTO ... and by now I'm thinking that something was not done correctly when they did the timing chain - but I'm not a mechanic and don't have a clue what's going on at this point. I just know I want my car to run for me!!! I had already prepped Bullet Auto on my situation and my deep (legal) concern at this point. The question was, "would these guys back up their work?" Eventually, Mike Chaco returns my email and we talked on the phone. He's one of those guys who, while talking on the phone, makes a "jack-off" gesture to his buddy's watching him on the phone. How do I know? Well, just wait. Mike seemed nice enough, and I could tell he was tempering the situation because at this point I was demanding they either back up their work or I'd sue. Period. I was not happy. However, through 2 nice conversations with Mike, I agreed to have them do their own tests on the engine - and after that, we agreed to discuss solutions. A day goes by and Mike calls to tell me there's NO blown head gasket, no engine noise, and good pressure. That's the good news. The BAD NEWS, as he explained (probably all bullshit), was that (he said) my auxillary fan did not work at all (completely off, which I didn't believe) and my radiator fan clutch was stripped (could have been the case/partially or whatever). I always heard the fans come on, so that's why this was so sketchy to me. Regardless, I agreed to have them do the work, which they said was going to be $1,300. Fine. I agreed to it. And, I also asked them to replace a couple of front end suspension arms (plus bushings). When I got a call from Mike Chaco to hear what my final bill was on this work, I learned the total fee was $2499.99. Who the hell does that? Anyway, Mike tells me that he suggested I replace the two front grills (plastic crap, as well know). I told him I knew they were loose, but not "falling out." But then I asked, "Uh, so did they actually fall out and hit the ground?" Mike said, "Yes." Immediately I was livid. For giggles, I asked him, "So, how much to replace them?" Mike said, "$250." I said, "WHAT?" "No thank you. I think I can find them for cheaper," I said to Mike. He acted like I was crazy not to pay him $250 - pretty much implying I"m the fool. Agian, I said "No thanks." When I inquired about getting a new Thermostat, as the one they put in place during the timing chain replacement was NOT likely any good anymore, there was silence on the phone. Eventually, Mike spewed, "I'll tell you what ... we'll do the labor for free if you pay for the part." I reluctantly agreed. Ugh =((( When I simply googled it.
