I am a happy camper. I wanted to have 2021 X5 upgrade from default plain gear shift knob, multimedia controller knob, start button to crystal finish like M sports package does. I thought it would be 1 day job but we found out the car needs new parts and to be coded by specific files by computer. Micky told me they have close relationship with dealer so getting genuine parts and get it fixed would be no problem. I couldn't have my car back for 10 days but they have updated what they need to do and traveled to BMW dealer for me. I am not tech savvy but they gave me explanation good enough to understand and spent extra time to make sure the car will be picked up without any problem. Picked up a used BMW e90. Had a broken bolt in the caliper carrier I couldn't get out. They removed the bolt and replaced the rear brakes. I can't say enough good things about this place. From the moment they answered the phone I received top notch customer service. They clearly knew what they were talking about, got my car in same day, and repaired the same day. I had been putting off the installation of the Dinan parts I had ready for my car. The dealer wasn't an option for me so I asked around and found Bullet Performance in Costa Mesa. The shop is a great big facility with 10+ Bimmers being serviced at the same time. Very knowledgeable with BMW and a real race car enthusiast. One of my main points is that they're a certified Dinan dealer/installer. The tech bolted on the high flow AIR intake and added the larger T.B. The final step was adding the stage 3 engine performance software. It all came together nicely and my car MOVES now! I plan to be back for more mods. I've been here a couple of times and have a pretty positive experience for the most part, I'm going to keep my review as honest as possible. First trip here was due to a knocking sound in my aftermarket coilovers (yes aftermarket), I was quoted $60 to check the sound and see what was going on, a very fair price so I quickly accepted and came in, they checked the car, and the tech who was working on my car was very professional, very nice, explained everything to me and showed me everything. I've been into cars for a long time and I'm on my 4th BMW the previous being a pretty modified E46 M3, but I was here for my E92 328i that I just bought so it being pretty stock I'm pretty sure they thought I didn't have much car knowledge, they didn't try to jerk me around or anything. In the end he told me it was due to the bump stop missing on one side. I left, went home and sure enough there was a bump stop in my box that I forgot to put on, I put the bump stop back on and it was still making that sound, I really just sort of gave up at that point. Fast forward a few weeks later, ALL the plastic panels at the bottom of my car flew off on the freeway, I worked with a gentleman named Peter this time, Peter was amazing, very helpful, very professional and explained everything to me and did his best to help me save as much as possible by reusing the old bolts that were salvageable. Up to this point this shop was in my mind my new "GO TO" shop, I've been going to Precision Motors but their hours are a bit more limited and Bullet Performance was closer to me as well as highly recommended on the BMW forums that I'm on so I was hoping to switch over to be my go to shop. When I brought the car in for the panel replacement I told them that I brought the car in a few weeks ago with the clunking sound and put the bump stop in and it was still making that sound, I explained to them over the phone if they could take a quick look at it and see if there is anything wrong with it, as in anything else that could be wrong. I made is clear that I did not wish to pay anymore to solve the problem though, I was on the phone with Brett regarding this matter (Brett I see you are replying to yelp reviews so I'm sure you probably remember this incident). I get a call a few hours later from Brett saying that he was pretty unhappy because his tech wasted a bunch of time trying to figure out what the problem was and it ended being that the bump stop was still missing, so he's unhappy that he wasted all this time on a problem they had previously addressed (Brett feel free to correct me if I have anything incorrect here but this is how I remembered it) Brett then told me that because of the "wasted time" he wanted to charge me $90 for the time that was taken to inspect the car, I explained to him that when I told him to check the car I clearly said I didn't want to be paying more money, he replied with something along the lines of "well when someone tells me to do something I get to bottom of it and I do it" while that is a great attitude to have it's a little different when I have to be paying for something that I made very clear in the beginning that I did NOT want to be paying for. In the end we agreed on paying $45 or maybe it was $40, the sum of money is the not the important part to me though, it just sort of left a bad taste in my mouth to be paying for something I very clearly said I did not want to pay for and I didn't want to be "that cheap guy" but I would have appreciated a phone call or SOMETHING to let me know they were going to start charging me for something they were going to do for me to say "OK" or something... In the end the issue was due to terminology, what is a "bumpstop" on a stock shock is different than what is a "bumpstop" on a aftermarket coilover, so that was the reason why I said the bumpstop was replaced (which is true) and why Brett said it was still missing (which is true as well) we were both just referring to different parts on the shock. At the end of the day they did a great job on my panels as far as I can tell and like I said Peter was GREAT to work with. I still call them to get a quote when I need stuff done to my car and will go to them if they have competitive pricing (so far I haven't gone back to them) but in the future I will just make it very clear that I am only paying to what I agree with upfront and any additional fees that are to be added must be Ok-ed by my first. edit: After my review Brett contacted me and we resolved the little matter that I was unhappy with, I'm very pleased with the fact that he reached out to me and although I am only one out of many customers they have that they felt the need to make me happy. I will definitely be coming back here in the future and will recommend it to more friends. read more

Where's the sixth star for their rating? Couldn't have been more delighted to have them service my coupe. I'm totally the type of guy to do all service myself, minor repairs, etc, and even consider it therapeutic. However, time isn't always available nor is space in my garage. I've heard of Bullet Performance a while back when someone asked for a reference, and it pretty much sounded exactly as my description of my experience. Firstly, on the phone they were polite, courteous, and it was obvious that they cared. Secondly, the staff was super awesome! Honestly, they made you feel like you were an old time friend. I can't stress enough how grateful I was to get a tour of their shop and be shown all the fun m projects they have going on. Just brilliant staff. Thirdly, the mechanics here are KNOWLEDGEABLE! Inquiring on future service needs, adjustments, for my S54 engine, etc, they knew exactly what I was talking about; including the service mech shouted out his opinion telling me that I shouldn't even worry about it for another 15k miles. Unlike a dealership that's service and knowledge is primarily based from computerized TSM software. And finally, the price. They aren't the cheapest, but given the location, the quality of their shop, over qualified staff with track and performance experience, the amenities and waiting room, the price is astounding and by far lower than any local BMW dealership. I have been consulting yelp for years, but only signed up today specifically to write this glowing review! A little background: I am a total car nut, used to race cars and motorcycles on tracks, and also used to work as a service advisor at a dealership, so I know when I've received unusually excellent service, and this is absolutely the case with Bullet Performance! I called mid-morning on a Thursday (today), after calling/e-mailing 15 different shops in West LA (where I live) to work on my "new to me" '08 BMW 535xi Sport Wagon. I suspected I had a boost leak (my Cobb AccessPort was showing an "underboost" P30FF fault code), and also needed my spark plugs changed. First, Amber politely and professionally answered the phone and spoke with me about my problems before passing me off to Brett for some more in-depth technical BMW questions. I can't tell you how important it is for someone polite, intelligent, and patient to answer the phone when you call a car shop (most are rude, and in a hurry to get off the phone). This is important, as it's literally your very first impression and first point of contact. I have written off shops before that answer the phone rudely or do not return voicemails. Why would I have you work on my car if you can't communicate with me? Brett, the service advisor, troubleshooted a number of possibilities with me over the phone, and said he could change the plugs today, but wasn't sure wether he would have time to do diagnostics (understandably, and refreshingly honest). I drove the 40 miles down to Costa Mesa and was greeted by Bullet's friendly staff the moment I pulled in. The shop was large, clean, professional looking, and just made me feel very at ease. They have lots (I mean LOTS) of snacks, reading materials, and WiFi. I met Brett and his little pooch which patrols the shop, and he introduced me to Mike, who would be working on my car today. Not only did Mike let me watch while he worked on my car, he encouraged me to learn exactly what he was doing so next time I could change the plugs myself (that's unheard of in the car service industry)! Mike spent hours with my car, taking it on two long test drives with me, and running a score of diagnostic tests. He poured over the entire car, finding a worn suspension bushing here, a small oil leak there. He found two vacuum lines that needed to be replaced, and most importantly, he found that my wastegates in my turbos were not working properly. Keep in mind that I bought this car 2 weeks ago from Rusnak BMW in Thousand Oaks, who assured me the car was in tip top shape. Well I had my doubts, and I'm so glad I brought it to Bullet for a second opinion! Thankfully, my car still has 4 months left on it's manufacturer extended warranty (otherwise this would become a costly repair), so Mike put me in touch with the service advisor and 2 great techs over at Sterling BMW to take care of the warranty work on the turbos, which I will be taking care of on Monday. And when I finally got the bill after Mike had put a total of 3 hours of labor into the car, I had sticker shock! It was much, MUCH LOWER than I expected for all the time he spent with the car. I have no doubt if I took it anywhere else I would have easily paid double, or conversely, the problems that Mike found, wouldn't have been found by someone doing a less thorough job. In fact, most of the quotes I received from shops in West LA were much higher than what Bullet charged me. Oh, and when we came back from test drive #2, Mike asked "Do you want your car washed?" I thought he was joking, all he did was replace the spark plugs, but sure enough, Bullet washed my car (and did a great job of that too) for free! I have had my run-in's with enough bad shops (particularly in West LA), and was just absolutely blown away by the service I received by Bullet. They could have just as easily told me they did not have time to do such a small job on my car today, since all of the service bays were packed, and every tech was busy while I was there. It took me 2 hours of driving today to go there and back, but I would do it again in a heartbeat. The next time my BMW needs service, you can bet I won't even think twice about making the long drive from WLA down to Bullet! I called Mickey, the co-owner, when I got home I was so happy with the service I received, and he was genuinely excited and very pleased to receive that phone call. This is how the car service industry should be! These guys absolutely earned my future business today. Clean, honest, friendly, fair, informative, prompt, helpful, professional, WHAT ELSE COULD YOU ASK FOR!? If you want a shop to go above and beyond the call for you and make sure you are taken care of, without gouging you in the process, GO TO BULLET! The guys at Bullet are clearly experts in repairing BMW's, but unfortunately they completely fouled up in two recent instances: 1. I spent over $1600 on repairs to make my car safe and reliable. I think they did a good job but took 3 additional days then they estimated and another shop found SEVERAL issues they missed. Beemers are expensive to maintain but they DO charge quite a bit more than others. 2. They charged my mother over $100 for an oil change and quoted her $2500 in additional repairs the car would need. Most 82 year old women don't aren't technically inclined and she came home flustered. Bottom line: not cool to try to hard ball an old lady into a bunch of work. The guys in the front office are terse and have an air of arrogance about them. It's great they have racing flags and trophies for bragging rights but it doesn't do much for the customer-experience. I bet they can tear a car apart and put it back together but I certainly cannot recommend them. read more

It was very enjoyable to work with Terry, the service manager who in turn went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure my car was quickly taken care of. This is my second time at Bullet. First was with my wifes old 328i. They performed an oil change and everything was fine. A little pricey but better than the dealer. Recently , I sent my M3 to have my aftermarket exhaust (AP/Megan Racing) installed. Well, they were nice and installed it the best they could. The installer was very cool, but the fitment was not good. The left tips were extending out of the bumper about 1 cm farther than the right side and the left drooped about 1 cm lower than the right side. There was nothing left they could do...and the intstaller tried. So I paid and drove off with a slightly lop-sided exhaust. Mind you. Its not the best or most expensive$$ exhaust out there, but many friends and M3 club members have bought the same exhaust with absolutely zero issue. I personally know 13 people with the same exhaust and it fit almost perfect. So, I yelped a welder. Welding Works, in Orange. They are awesome. They noticed that the connecting pipes were not fully seated and the mentioned that the clamps were not very secure. So they adjusted the exhaust and tig welded the connecting pipes around the clamps to secure them. That fixed 80% of the problems. The tips are now equally flush to the bumper. But... the left side still sat slightly lower to the right. So they cut the entire right tip off, adjusted and welded it back on. The also made sure that the exhaust tips were centered in the bumper cutouts perfectly. They did say that the weld work on the exhaust was top notch and said it looks like a pretty expensive exhaust. I know Bullet is not a welding shop but with there expertise in BMW, they should have been able to install the exhaust better. read more

I needed to get my 2006 BMW 525 serviced (oil change and microfilter change) and Sterling BMW was crazy overpriced. I called around to at least 6 different companies I researched on YELP and through friend referrals. Mickey at Bullet was second cheapest (the first was a local company, but the guy was short with me on the phone and I didn't get a very good feeling about him). So I went to Bullet a couple hours later (also Bullet could take me same-day; the cheaper place could only take me 4 days later). The computer in my car showed my microfilter needed to be changed and it was over -6000 miles. Mickey showed me the microfilters and told me that I could go at least 10-15k more miles without changing it. He advised me to save my money and wait. Who does that?!? NO ONE! He also told me he'd reset my computer so that it doesn't show the microfilter needing to be changed! Awesome. For my oil change, he used the same exact synthetic oil that is used at the BMW dealership. He told me they use the same filters also- in fact, he used to work at BMW for many years which I found to be a huge plus and allowed me to relax, knowing I was dealing with a professional. He also gave me a great deal on the oil change and he ended up matching the price the lowest guy had given me! So it was a WIN-WIN! I just joined YELP now because I had to write a review on Bullet Performance. My whole family drives BMWs and I know i'll be sending them there for their service issues as well. The owner was detailed, concerned and I truly believe I got a fair and honest deal. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. It is no wonder these guys are known as the "BMW Masters". I have been bringing my BMW here for over 7 years, and it's quite old at this point, but they have kept it running like a dream! First, these guys are all BMW Fanatics. They RACE BMWs for a living. BMWs are their life...When I first started going here years ago, I was interested to learn that the entire service team came from professional race teams for BMWs and also from the dealers themselves. They are true experts with BMWs. I would trust my car to no one else. They all have advanced dealer certifications, so you are getting the same quality as the service you would get by going to the dealer, at a fraction of the price! They have all the machinery (Tools) the dealer uses to run diagnostics on BMWs for factory service, so they can diagnose problems the typical mechanic cannot. Mickey, the owner, has always been extremely polite and helpful to me. He and the rest of the staff have gone above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to trying to assist me. Almost every time I go in, they give me a list of what's wrong, and they help me widdle it down to only the "necessaries" that immediately need to be fixed. For example, they will point out something that needs fixing, but will say, "if you want to, you can wait for another 5k miles until you really need to look at fixing it. Not only do they do this, and are very forthright about their service, they have offered me discounts, whenever and wherever they can. I always walk away feeling comfortable. They make me part of the decision process on what will be fixed on my car, help me to understand the meaning of what is broken, and why it needs to be fixed immediately, or alternatively, why it can wait. They jumped through hoops to help me fix my sunroof on my car, even going so far as to search parts vendors nationwide to find a sunroof shade for me, when mine blew off in the wind. It was not a lot of $ for them, but the effort they extended for me was incredible. I would recommend them to anyone that has a BMW, without question. I went to this shop because of all the great reviews. I wanted to take my new 550i for Dinan Stage 1 programming and I don't doubt for 1 minute that these guys really know what they are doing. They are really busy though... I waited for 40 minutes to talk to the expert about the Stage 1 programming. He was very nice and recommended that I put a few miles on the car before I do it. Seems to be very honest, so then I called to schedule an appointment. I was told that they do not have the part for the new 550i for the programming. Ok. He told me he would call me back and never did. I called again and never got a return call.... Sorry guys... had to go somewhere else. Maybe you guys should hire an administrative assistant if you are that busy! Maybe I will give this place another shot in the future because all the raving reviews. Good Indy mechanics are hard to come by. When I talked to Mickey over the phone I knew I found THE PLACE for my BMW if I ever want to have it modified or repaired. I'm part of a BIG online BMW community called Bimmerforums.com and I called up a shop in the San Diego area to see how much it would cost to get my ECU numbers pulled so I could order a ECU performance chip for my 1995 540i, and I was quoted almost $200!!! I told myself "F*** THAT!!!" and stumbled upon Bullet Performance online through referrals and called in to ask for a price. A gentleman came over the phone, who I later found out was Mickey, and he told me to stop by any time and he would pull the ECU numbers for me for free! After I heard that, I felt in good hands. So, I drive down there from Huntington Beach and as promised Mikey was there to help me out and got those pesky codes pulled. Also, while I was there I noticed A LOT of cars in their shop for some regular maintenance, and also a brand new E93 M3 with Dinan exhaust and the one and only E34 M5! (in Hellrot none the less!) After seeing an E34 M5 I felt very secure coming here, as many BMW enthusiasts know that E34 M5's can be some of the toughest cars to work on, and not to mention now becoming more rare than E30 M3's! Not to mention their ridiculous race-prepped E36 M3 haha. So, if you have a problem or heck even a simple question don't hesitate to give these guys a call. Service is top notch and second to none. As I already posted on Google Reviews, I wanted to add my review to Yelp as well . I am a new customer and very happy with the TLC and great workmanship Bullet Performance gave me to make my old car (2000 BMW 328i 4-door manual ) run like new again ! I had been driving almost 20 miles to South Orange County to an independent BMW repair I trusted for the last 9 years. I was devastated when I went there in February 2018 to find they had merged with another repair shop and the owner was no longer there. I thought I would never find another Repair shop I trusted but I was wrong ! My hairdresser recommended Bullet and since it is only 6 miles away I tried it out first two months ago after my car stalled in mid-traffic. Terry was very kind and made me feel at ease and after a few hours and some diagnostics I came back to see his recommendations for the future. Now after more issues I decided to go back and have some things repaired and all I can say was my experience was Excellent ! I really trust these guys. I brought my E34 M5 here for a number of years, between 1999 and 2005. They're not cheap, but less $$ than the dealer would charge. I felt as if they knew the "M" cars better than the dealer anyway. My new car (E86 Z4M) is under warranty though and I have not been back in a while, but I'd still recommend them any day. The only downside to this shop, and the reason I'm giving them 4 not 5 stars is their other line of business. These guys build race cars and I'd sometimes get the feeling they'd rather be working on those than my sedan. read more

These guys are great! Been taking my car to them after my warranty was up. All the staff are very well educated about BMWs and take care any worries you have on your car. When I had an oil leak issue with a bearing near my rear axel, they told me that at the BMW dealership, even with warranty, unless the customer made a comment about it, they wouldn't go out of their way to fix it. Bullet suggests that before your warranty ends at the dealership, take it to them to get it fully checked out and so you can go back and tell the dealership to fix it (all the above) since it's covered under warranty. Only a true mechanic and enthusiast for cars would tell their customer something like that. They've been working on my BMW 5 series for a few years now and wouldn't take it anywhere else! read more

Let's talk about Barry. Barry is my wonderful, berry blue 2004 325i BMW convertible. He's a very delicate creature who enjoys soft rock and a cruise down PCH weekly. When he wouldn't start I took him over to Bullet Performance. A friend of my dad's referred me. These guys went above and beyond to take care of my car. They knew what the problem was quickly, explained the cost and the process over the phone. Put in a new starter while I spent the day at work and I picked up my car that night. I've done business at bullet three times now and have decided to stick with them. I have a newer BMW family car 535IT and an M Roadster. They know their business and I trust them. Unlike the two local dealers they are looking to make relationships and not overcharge you at every opportunity. I know more than a few things about cars. It was a simple thing but it presented plenty opportunity to replace things that didn't need replacement to take advantage of a woman. ***Must Read*** I just moved to SoCal from Las Vegas with my 2010 BMW 328i. I was running misfire & lean codes (Bank 1 & 2) and the dreaded P0015 / P0012 codes. I attempted to fix the problem twice in LV at the dealership with no success. I ended up replacing parts that didn't need replacing ($$$). I moved to Orange County and took my car to Powerhouse German & European Auto (Westminster). They quoted me $1000+ and wanted me to replace spark plugs, coil packs, two parts I had previously replaced in LV, & more. I took my car to Bullet Performance yesterday for a 2nd opinion. They found the source of the problem quickly! Two wires were connected backwards--that's all. No more check engine light, no more error codes. These guys saved me a ton of money and didn't try to sell me on needless parts/repairs. They get right to the source of the problem. Afterwards, I gladly paid for them to do other repairs/upgrades that needed to be done to my car (which they completed quickly). I won't be taking my BMW to anyone else. After 6 months having my car sitting at different mechanic shops including 2 BMW dealerships, Mickey diagnosed and Fixed my cars electrical issues (severe issues) in just 2 days while other places just gave up on my car! 100% recommend I also got a brake fluid flush and transmission fluid flush for very fair prices. read more

I have a 2006 BMW X5 that was getting the error "Inactive Self-Levling Suspension" - meaning my car was riding as low as possible and hitting bottom when I went over speed bumps. I called them around 9:30 AM on a Friday morning, dropped it off by 10:00 and had it back home fixed with my oil changed as well by 4:00 PM. I highly recommend this shop and will definitely go there again for any of my future BMW needs. read more

If you're like me - single guy with a BMW off the service warranty, doesn't have a lot time or energy to think about their car or worry about getting screwed at the shop, I highly recommend this place for your BMW. I had an oil change and a fuse replaced here - they were done within an hour, and I just walked down the street to the cafe to wait. It was reasonably priced. The other day I ran over the curb and shifted the piece of the car in between the two wheels. I brought it in and because it was a relatively simple fix, they didn't charge me, saying just to bring it in there next time for alignment/oil change when it needs it next. These guys are thinking about the long term relationship and reputation, which is what you want in a repair shop. read more

I had my 2016 BMW M235i taken here because it kept misfiring even after another shop replaced all coil packs and spark plugs. I wasn't sure what the issue was since my car is tuned and didn't show any codes. Bullet performance took care of it within 2 hours. No appointment I just called and they handled it same day.
