If your looking for a bike store that has top notch knowledgable and friendly people, great service, great prices then this is the place to go. Being family owned and ran you get service and help that is hard to find at other places. They haven't been in business for over 100 years by chance. Lloyd and Garrison (owner and son) along with Steven are very knowledgeable and will take the time to answer your questions and help you find the bike or part that you need. Trek is their main bike that they sell which has an excellent selection of top bikes. They also have cruisers from Nirve and a wide range of fixies (all the rage right now) to choose from and you can order just about anything. Not sure about the reviewer who rated them one star but I have never had anything but the best experiences all 27 years that I have been going there and as you can see others feel the same. I was so impressed with Lloyd's courteousness and professionalism. He is very honest about giving opinions on the product he sells and he never hesitate giving you the best deal for the money. Great bike shop where I was treated like a friend not a customer. I purchased a Trek 2.1, Lloyd the owner was very helpful he didn't try to up sell me and sold me a bike under the MSRP, they threw in a water bottle and a cage. They help me with the fit on the bike. They even installed a computer, and the heavy duty tubes I asked for. Lloyd took the time to explain how the SRAM shifters work and how they are just as good as Shimano. When I asked a saddle bag/pump/multi-tool kit, I asked if the combo pack was a good kit or should I buy the items individually, he explain it was a good it and only reason I would want something else is because the bag would be smaller. Like wise when I explained my helmet was closing in on 3 years old (the recommended lifetime of a helmet) and I would buy a new one next month, I was told I can keep it longer if my helmet was in good condition. I've been to several bike shops and at most, the employees or owner are really antisocial ad direct. I'm usually afraid to ask a question because they'd think I'm ignorant. Not here. I had an awesome experience at Bumstead's. The family that owns this place really know what's up. Everyone there is friendly and willing to help... even the Iguana! Great shop. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I had them build a wheel for my mountain bike and set me up with a new rotor+adapter for a new fork I put on. If your reading this just go... it's the best bike shop I've every been to in the IE or la county. Nicest staff members who are willing to Help and Explain whatever you want to know. Don't underestimate the size or local feel of the shop either I go here weekly asking for all types of upgrades and replacements trying to find exotic parts that they might not have but I'm never let down. Whatever they don't have in the store they will have for you by the end of the week with the best price as long as you know exactly what you want and even if you don't know what you want or need BUMSTEADS knows!! These guys really treat me like I'm a rider on their team, always keeping me on my bike and you just don't get that kind of care or treatment from other small shops and chain stores. I wasted a lot of time in ALOT of other shops with people who weren't very helpful! I've been going to Bumstead's for several years now. I always get great prices and how's this for great service; I once bent the rear rocker arm on my mountain bike. Normally that would send an older a bike to the grave but instead of trying to talk me into a new bike, Lloyd spent the good part of an hour dismantling and bending the bent part in a vice until it was straightened and the bolts lined up then refused to charge since I hadn't purchased any parts. Or the time when I broke the derailleur arm on my road bike and he spliced in part of an Ultegra derailleur he had laying around instead of recommending I give him $100 for a new one. And it's been working great for several hundred miles since he fixed it. When I walk into one of those bigger places like Incycle or Competitive Edge, it's like walking into a car dealership. They just wanna sell you whatever bike they can, whereas Bumstead's has kept my old bikes running like new. read more
