As an Ontario native, I've always known of Bumstead's and that it's a timeless store in the area. However, I never had a need to go until last week! I decided to finally put my bike (Huffy Helios 21-speed mtn bike) to use, but the bike wasn't shifting properly (hardly at all) so I took it in on Tuesday. Due to Coronavirus shutdown they are understandably backed up, so I went to pick up my bike today (a week later) and it's good to go. Very fair pricing, good quality work, and they get the job done even under pressure and over Memorial Day weekend. Thanks, I will gladly return for any bike maintenance. read more

In the beginning of summer, I really wanted to get a bicycle. The lockdown was driving me nuts and I wanted to find more outdoor things to do to keep me occupied. I wanted a bike. I had a bike. It was old and hadn't been ridden in over five years. There was a bunch of rust on it, and the chain was pretty rusted as well. I thought there was no way in hell that I would be able to revive that bike, so I thought I'd look for a new one. After searching online for hours on end, I came up with nothing. Huge bike shortage. I guess my idea wasn't very original. I thought I'd try my luck at a bike shop. I read the reviews for Bumstead, and really dug what everyone had to say. Sounded like the kind of place I would want to give business to, so I went hoping that they'd have, at the very least, a used bike I could buy. No luck. The owner, who was incredibly nice and helpful, told me that they were completely sold out of bikes and probably wouldn't have any available until August (it was June). I was so bummed. I did mention to him that I had an old bike and wondered if it could be repaired. I showed him pictures. He told me to bring it in and he'd give it a look, so I did. He could've told me that the bike was not worth it and motivated me to wait to buy a bike later, but he was honest. He said most of the damage was cosmetic and with a tune-up, I would be able to get back out there. I really appreciated that. I also mentioned to him that my husband had never learned how to ride a bike, but we really wanted to get him to try - and he gave me some really great and helpful tips on how to do that. side note: he totally learned a month later! This place is old, but I love it. You can tell that it's been in the neighborhood forever. When you come in, you can expect friendly, helpful, and honest people that love bikes. They do get insanely busy, though, so I'd call ahead just to make sure they can take your bike! Prices are very reasonable and you don't have to worry about being upsold on stuff. This place is the best! The owners are so kind and treat you like family. They helped me out with my bike repair 15 minutes after I called to ask if they could do it today-- and they went above and beyond! An employee saw me struggling in the parking lot and immediately came out to help me unload my bike. He even took the front tire off for me because I got it stuck in the trunk the repair was quick and they added finishing touches on everything like straightening my seat and handle bars. I will definitely go back for any future bicycle needs! read more

Super nice Father/son team. They installed my thorn resistant tubes and thorn resistant tire liners within 10 minutes on both tires of my hybrid bike (Yep, Yelpers....I learned that you really need to buy these things if you want to ride your bicycle anywhere. I had flat tubes after riding just 5 miles at a park). Also just to let you yelpers know, the standard rate of changing tubes in tires should be about $5 per tire currently in 2011. Large selection of cruisers but not a huge selection of road bikes/ mountain bikes/hybrid bikes (hence the 4 stars). read more

Come here for all your bicycle needs!!! I just came to get my tire fixed because it wouldn't pump air in it anymore and they knew exactly what I needed and put a new tube in it. I was shocked with how good their pricing was and the customer service was outstanding! The owner even went out of his way to help me find a saddle for my bike in the color I needed and helped me find a good deal. Best bike shop ive been in years. Came in today 1/27/2018 just to look around. I didnt except to walk out with a bike:D. Used but so cute. I didnt get the guys name but he was so helpful and knew what he was talking about. He gave me diffrent options to look at. Saw 1 and instantly fell in love. The basket and size sold me. Haaaa!!!!! I don't know much about bikes so when my sisters youth bike something came off regarding the brakes and it seemed liked it was going to be replaced the gentleman just said let me take a look and put it back together without any charge. Other places they could've taken it to the back and charged me 40 dollars but he didn't.. Can I give lower than 1 star? Low end bike shop with low class , low rent salesperson. Went in there to buy a $100.00 bike saddle. Asked him about a helmet, he just looked in there direction and said "helmets are over there". Well I needed one in my size, I made that known to him and he shrugged it off. Now I have money and I'm in the store to buy something, I'm not here to kick tires and waste time. I let them know that the price of the saddle was a little cheaper at Incycle and I would buy it here if they would match the price. He said good for them, go buy it there. So incredibly rude, I was a little stunned, but then I realized this guy is more Into his biker tattoos and ear piercings than providing a good experience for the customer, even if he didn't price match, be cool about it guy, what's up with the bullshit attitude? We immediately walked out and bought our gear elsewhere. Sometimes I think that stores like this deal with so many fixie crowd kids that are just dumb teenagers that when a cash carrying adult walks in they don't realize it. read more

I just bought a home right around the corner from this place. I always pass it up, thinking, I want to stop and check out their bikes, since I want to start biking. Today, I actually stopped in after work. The place wasn't packed at all. I walk in and no one greeted me, but I definitely was looked at, upon walking in. One of the gal's that work there passed me up, looking very agitated. I walk in a complete circle, thinking someone was going to ask me for some assistance... *waiting* *waiting*.... nope....nothing! A few minutes later 3 people walk in and the guy that works there, pops his head up from helping another customer that was already in there and says "hey how's it going, we'll be with you right now!". Wow.. really? i shook my head and walked out. And to think i was going to drop between $400-$600 on a bike! Pftttttttttt!! Not at this rude ass place! This place just lost a customer. I am absolutely in love with this place. I'm so glad I found it. It's not out in the open and hidden in a little shopping center that's not doesn't catches ones eye, but it's there on Mountain ave and 4th street. I found this place by chance as my girlfriend and I were bored and decided to drive around. We recently purchased a few bikes from a couple of bike shops, so every bike shop we saw; we checked out. On our way home for the day, we noticed Bumstead's. We didn't think much would be there but after going inside, we were very impressed. They're main selections are Trek. They also carried other brands and different types. The thing that caught my eye the most was the prices for their tune ups. For a awesome price of 50ish, I was able to get a complete tune up with my tires trued! I was in shock because I recently went else where and it costed me 150 for the same things. The workers at the time were so helpful and friendly. I asked about the tune up because I couldn't believe it. They didn't have a problem going into detail on the process of tuning a bike. I was impressed and felt very welcomed and taken care of. I recently took my vintage Univega in for a much needed tune up (little brother neglected my baby). I was able to get a full tune up, new seat post, and handle wraps for around 70. I was very pleased. Excellent service and prices. I found my new bike shop!!! read more

We've purchased almost every bike we own from the Bumsteads! They are fairly priced with a good selection. If they don't have what you're looking for they are more then happy to order it for you. Lloyd (the Dad and owner) is very nice and patient. Garrison (young adult son) is great with the younger kids. He frequently gives my boys free stickers when we go in and look around. The wife (Nancy) recently added a "woman's touch" to the shope and added a yummy comfy chair in the corner of the store where the Mommies can sit while their "boys" shop around for their dream bikes!! Regarding follow up maintenance, my sister purchased a bike 2-3 years ago, her rear bearing went bad and Bumsteads honored their guarantee and fixed it free of charge! They are coming up on their 100th anniversary and they are the 2nd old business in Ontario!! Way to go BUMSTEADS!! read more

This place is awesome! Let me start off by saying that I have never left a review for any business. Not even the one I work at lol but made my yelp account just to leave one for here. This place is awesome. Been looking for my first road bike for a couple months and went to plenty of other shops in the inland empire and got horrible service or everything was over priced. Came in this past Saturday, and got helped as soon as I walked in, the son and father who run the place were quick to help me with all my questions considering I'm new to cycling. They explained the bikes to me and all the components. Before I knew it I had a bike picked out and ready to check out. They made me feel very welcome and didn't rush me to make my decisions, in the bike or accessory's, considering the store was closing in 10mins on a SATURDAY. They even sized me on my bike, put on all my accessory's for me and even help me put my trunk rack on my car! The owner was very helpful and polite. He gave me tips and advice and said if I had any questions at all to call him. One of the accessory's I had bought was a bag for under my seat, when I got home I didn't realize that the zipper was not closing right, I called in last night and asked if I can come in today to exchange it, and without hassle or question, they said yeah, come right in and we'll exchange it for you. Perfect! I'm gonna be getting my girlfriend a bike soon and I'm definitely coming back. This is the way you should be treated, all these other bike stores are so snobby and rude and try to sell you stuff you don't need. I recommend this store to everyone! The father and son team work. One is good for traditional older riders and the other one is rather wild looking and more contemporary for the younger riders. They don't have a lot in stock since it isn't REI we're talkin' about here, but this is probably the hippest place in Ontario to get your bike supplies from. I bought a few of those 10 dollar LED lights and my sister bought a cool red bmx-inspired helmet for under thirty bucks. They gave great customer service and really tried to make us happy before we left. They even tightened my brother's handlebars for freeeeeee! Sure, it's probably a few notches below L.A. bicycle shops, but for the area and the prices, it's more than reasonable; it's an oasis for the cyclist culture in the 909. read more

I've been going to Bumstead's since I was 12 (I'm 31 now) although I have been to numerous other bike shops, I always find myself back at Bumstead's wondering why I didn't just go there in the first place. Only complaint I would have is sometimes it gets really busy in there. They don''t ignore you but they do have to get to everyone so it might take a while. My girlfriend and I went in to buy her a fixie and we were greeted by Garrison. He was very helpful and recommended we get their most basic model, the Skinny Benny, since she is new to fixies. After deciding on a bike Garrison even let her pick different rims and threw in a few extras. We spent $300+tax, which was a very good price for the quality and service. 1 year of maintenance is also included! On a different occasion I took some bullhorns to Bumstead's to have them installed and wrapped. I had been told by Coate's Cyclery that I would need to buy new brake levers so I decided to try Bumstead's. The guy there installed and wrapped the bullhorns while saving my brake levers (and money) by using a longer screw. Don't get me wrong, Coate's is a really good shop, but Bumstead's goes above and beyond. "I don't care what people are riding these days as long as it gets them cycling." I've heard the owner say this and it shows. The problem casual cyclists face is that almost every shop has this roadie mentality that can be intimidating and belittling. However I have found that Bumstead's isn't like that; they don't care if you only ride $$$ road bikes, they simply do their best to promote cycling in all forms. I received a semi-old mountain bike from my cousin and wanted to find a local bike shop to get it checked out and tuned up. I have a membership and discount at REI but it's not that close to me so decided to try this place out and I'm glad I did. The prices were awesome and they fixed up my bike nicely and now I'm looking forward to riding it all summer. By far the worst experience I've ever had as a consumer and I never set foot in the store. I was looking for a particular product that I wasn't able to find at either of my local shops, so I resorted to the internet. I found what I was looking for, at the price I was looking for, at Bumsteads and one other online bike shop. I decided to go with Bumsteads based on their store being what seemed to be a small business and the idea that they were located in California. I figured Bumsteads would be the closest I could get to supporting my "local" bike shop. After making my purchase and four days passing, I contacted Bumsteads via telephone to inquire about an estimated arrival date of my order. This is where things got bad. Apparently, the manufactuer raised the price of their product, increasing Bumsteads cost. Bumsteads failed to update their website accordingly, their fault not mine. I was told that if I wanted to proceed with my order, I would have to pay more to cover the difference. I'm sorry, but this is a HUGE load of you know what. It turned into an arguement and the man on the phone had zero regard for me or basic customer service. Bumsteads should have bit the bullet and honored the price that I paid (again, the money was withrawn from my account). The man literally admitted that they wouldn't be making a profit on the transaction, so they refused to send the product at the price that I paid. I ended up making a complaint with the BBB and getting a refund. I wouldn't have done that or be leaving this review if my experience wasn't the worst ever. In turn I purchased my product from the other store and Bumsteads will never see my business ever again. Based on their customer service, they could probably care less. read more

I had a wheel trued here, and I have never seen a straighter wheel! It is even more true then when I first got it! Picked up some other stuff too, good prices and nice staff. Purchased a new Trek 7.2 Hybrid Bike here about 2 months ago and they've been very friendly about providing service whenever I needed a tune-up. I purchased about 4-5 accessories that are provided at a discount when you buy a bike at the same time and they were happy to install it for free even though it was quite a bit past the normal stores hours. Returned a few times with other bikes needing maintenance and general accessories and they've always best friendly. Highly recommend for the service and price. I've spent around $700 here so far and would definitely come again if I needed more service. read more

I've known Lloyd since back in high school days. If I've known five really honest, caring people in my entire life, he is one of them. He'll want to make sure you have what will make you completely happy and satisfied, and nothing less. If I could ride two bikes at once, I'd buy both from him. All I can say is amazing from start to finish. My son is off to college and in need of a bicycle because there are no vehicles allowed on campus it's a bike only campus so we start to look for bike shops from Los Angeles to San Bernardino county walked in to a couple wasn't really thrilled about the price or the service some places didn't even acknowledge that we were shopping and we were just ignored I won't mention names of stores but after reading yelp reviews all the negative and one star reviews were right on point. So after looking trough offer up and discount bike shops with no luck of finding something decent at a good price we ended up at Bumstead's on a Sunday afternoon wich on google said it was open well it's not open Sunday I almost gave up and bought a bicycle at another shop in upland for 700 dollars but decided to wait and check out Bumstead because all the of the good yelp reviews and boy am I glad I waited loyd was awesome my son and I walked in and immediately were greeted I said we are looking for an inexpensive bike that's reliable for my son to ride on campus preferably all black he points at the sales floor and said how is this one for starters it was exactly what we were looking for at an unbelievable price it was the exact same bike I almost payed 700 for loyd said I can have one built by tomorrow. We said that works well back tomorrow when we came in to pick up the bike loyd said I'm afraid we had an issue and I'm like o boy here we go he says we didn't have that particular bike in the warehouse I sold it to you without checking and I'm like o great the search continues but no loyd says I gave you an upgrade for free it was my mistake so the upgrade is on the house this blew my mind I'm like wow we got an amazing bike for an amazing price now that's how a business is supposed to take care of their customers and because of that Bumstead earned my business for life thank you loyd any time I'm in need of any cycling equipment your store is where I'll go read more

What can i say, They are just a GREAT bike shop. Have been going to bumsteads when Lloyds dad ran the shop in ontario on B street when it was a bike/fishing shop.
