Really liked the decor and atmosphere. Felt like an authentic Irish pub. The menu is great - lots of traditional choices. I went with a butterscotch cocktail and it was delicious and strong. The service was a bit slow. Our waitress was new and possibly still learning. She didn't bring us water until we requested twice and was just a bit slow to return at various points. My mother and I went with the boiled dinner. So disappointing. The veggies were not boiled enough. The waitress didn't bring us vinegar or butter so we had to ask. It was plain and not too enjoyable. Even the cabbage wasn't cooked correctly. I switched with my dining partner and had the country pie. That was fantastic. I would order that again for sure. Prices were good and I enjoyed watching rugby on the giant screen but it does disappoint me when an Irish place can't do a proper boiled dinner. read more

So why was it 3 stars? Was Friday night and there was unannounced Live music (ok good), Irish folk singer (a still good), his amp was turned up to a Spinal Tap level of 11 and The singer thought he was doing a stadium tour (not good). Waitress couldn't hear us to order, couldn't hear anyone sitting at our table, etc. So - definitely go to Bunratty's but check on the live music first - if you're looking for a loud music scene w good food then it's your place. If you're looking for a pub, good food, conversation and the music being background for atmosphere then don't go on live music nights. read more

Excellent food and equally good service here. Sat at the bar area and never wanted for. My drinks never were empty for more than a minute and my food came out hot. I was asked if I needed anything and I was left to enjoy my meal. The occasional check in for condiments or drinks was there but not overbearing. If I could give negative stars I would never had an experience like this at any restaurant ever. We sat outside because it was nice out. it was my brothers 21st birthday when she checked his id instead of saying happy birthday she called him a noobie the appetizer took at least 20 minutes to come out which they had tried to give us someone else's. finally go to order our food which I couldn't even call it decent when it finally came out. We ordered 2nd drinks which never came but they still tried charging us for. But the last straw was the nice family sitting next to us the grandmother tripped because they had left the umbrella stand in the middle of nowhere. My new favorite local "go-to" spot for hearty meals and great drinks. We have been here twice in two weeks. My first trip I got the Fish and Chips which was just the way I like it, crisp and fresh with an abundance of fries. Bravo ! If you are a successful Irish bar , fish and chips has to be on point and this dish exceeds all my expectations. Brilliant! As my my fellow Irish would say. My second trip I had the steak tips, this was the meal for you if you come hungry. Tips were tender and delicious. One of my favorite items on the menu is the French onion soup. I have never had an experience like I did tonight at any restaurant. Having a satisfied customer should trump just about any other issue as long as the request is reasonable and can be accommodated. Kate, our waitress (if she can be referred to as such) must have been having a bad night. From the minute we sat down we all felt that we were a bother and that she had better things to do. She was short, curt and couldn't care less about us. We ordered drinks and about half of them were not as ordered. We then asked both our server and the manager if we could have three separate checks. We were told that it was impossible as two checks was the maximum. I didn't feel that my request was out of the ordinary and could easily have been accommodated. Remember, customer service! Our food was delivered in a timely manner but our server never once came by to ask how it was, did we want more drinks or just simply "how is everyone doing?" I noticed her sitting at another table talking with the customers at that table. She also was attentive to another table next to us but we got no attention whatsoever. Well, six of the eight people in my party swore never to come back. The last two also won't be back because they live out of state. Too bad Bunratty Tavern. The eight of us were there at my recommendation. I won't be recommending that place to anyone ever again. read more

I ran across Bunratty Tavern while looking for an Irish food restaurant and was not disappointed. The atmosphere is fantastic, music playing, patrons dancing, it really gives the patron a feeling of belonging. Ordering was easy, and the wait staff was patient explained what was what to a first timer, I ordered the trio with a chowder starter and had a Guinness (of course) but also looked at their own impressive regional beers selection. The food came and it was superb. The sampler came with three dishes, beef stew, Shepherd's pie and cottage pie and all three cooked to perfection. Service was a bit iffy at times, with me and my party having to hunt someone in the staff down for drinks, but that didn't really surprise us as they were pretty busy. Great place for lunch or a drink (or few). Very few people were there when we arrived. We chose a table and the waiter/bartender came right over for our drink order. Many choices on the menu, we had the Bunratty Spring Rolls. They were fantastic. I told my wife that if it was socially acceptable, I would drink the parsley dipping sauce, it was that tasty! I ordered Bangers and Mash. Four Irish sausages with a huge pile of mashed potatoes covered with gravy - just the way I like them! The bangers were good, as were the potatoes, but I think the potatoes could have used a bit more salt. Certainly not a criticism, just an observation. About half way through I had to give up, I was stuffed. My wife got a turkey dinner, three generous slices of turkey breast with mixed vegetables and cranberry sauce. It was very good. As an added bonus, there was Irish music playing while we were there. The bartender/waiter seemed to be the only one working the bar and restaurant area. He was hustling to take care of everyone who came in. He was attentive, and not at all frazzled as he went from table to table to bar. We will definitely return, there are many items on the menu I want to try. We have already recommended Bunratty to our friends. read more

I was here on opening night and tonight (6/20/15) and they are having a very good turnout in terms of the crowd. Reaction (from speaking to others and overhearing) seems mostly favorable. The food menu is large (60 items) and entrees are 10-16. They also have gluten free items like corned beef lettuce wraps. For beer they have 16 drafts and a dozen whiskeys highlight their drink selection. Will post their drink menu as a photo later. My Experience: I had a bowl of clam chowder and Irish Curry Chips both were good in taste, portion, heat. My friend has the Bangers and Mash and it came out not hot with the gravy being cold to the touch. NOTE: That item was removed from his bill. The GOOD: Bar and restaurant are a single rectangular space with searing and standing room for 100+. The setup is very open and has a layout similar to a studio art gallery. They also have a patio with 12 tables although they were not open yet at my visit. I am adding in the fact that they only have 2 TVs as a positive, I think a place like this works well for conversation without TV. The BAD: Can be very loud due to one large space. Town of Reading limits licenses to 12am, so last call is 11:30pm on any night. OVERALL: Review is 5 star, due to being the only bar and restaurant of this caliber open past 10pm in Reading or Wakefield. This area is really lacking in anything exciting. Traditional Irish pub food, skillfully prepared! The chicken curry was amazing. Huge portion with onions and peppers that were delicious! The mixed grill was equally as good, and again huge. Amazing steak tips in the mixed grill, and I love steak tips. Did I mention that the prices were very reasonable? Well, they are! The "3" part comes with rather inattentive service. Maybe it was a bad night, but our server was slow, did not check on us to see if food was properly prepared, then was in a hurry to give us a check when we wanted coffee and dessert. Then, in an effort to cut off his nose to spite his face, he didn't give us a pen to add a tip and sign the credit card slip. I did ask for one, however, and appropriately tipped. The way I see it, Bunratty's in Reading is unquestionably worth another trip. This could have been an off night, or other distractions could have thrown the service. We will be back. read more

So, as far as ambience - forget it - but if you bring your kids - heck - let'em have run of the place. Asked the waiter for the brie app - arrived barely heated - usually the brie is under an oven and arrives a bit bubbly and nice. nothing like that here - no care or prep and some under-ripe fruit. Asked again, "so the Irish Plate or the Stew" - "Oh, the stew is my favorite." replied our waiter - hmm... is it because of your penchant for watery broth or potatoes ? Meat in my stew? Must have been confused with the veggie stew right, mate? I think I had three pieces of meat that would have made a scale barely tip at 4 or 5 ounces. All potatoes and carrots - but hey - famine and all that - just being authentic - right? My gal had the Salmon - a decent sized piece that was overwhelmed by the (again) potatoes and vegetables that tried to make it into an entree.
