Mmmm, it was just an ok experience. Service was fine, but the food was just largely forgettable. Perhaps it was a little unfair for me to ask for a pasta dish that was in one of the Yelp photos but has since been taken off the menu, but I just felt underwhelmed by my Farfalle alla Buon Gusto. A pasta dish that shares the name of the restaurant should wow me, but in the end, it was the artichoke and the black olives that did the heavy lifting. The sauce lack distinct flavor, other than being quite oily. The Chicken Marsala that my dad got was a bit better at least. The chicken breaat was tender, the marsala wine sauce was an improvement, and the pasta tasted good. Lastly, the espresso was fine. A subtle sweet dark chocolate with a hint of bitter that suggests a dark roast. Not a lot of nuance, but a pretty good, straightforward cup nonetheless. read more

Buon Gusto means good taste in Italian. Nice strip mall osterìa. Adequate wine list featuring good Italian wine varietals. Large dining room for our group dining of 21 guests. 1) Well executed Calamaretti Fritti of small firefly squid some that are meaty rings and others that are the head-mini tentacles. Light, crispy batter, and oil that they are fried in is fresh and sweet. Accompanied by a thick Salsa Marinara (mah ree nah rah) and wedge of lemon that I squeezed into the sauce instead of directly on the Calamari to preserve its crispness. 2) Meat Lasagna is big, almost good enough for a meal. Well constructed with almost al dente, chewy, thick, corrugated sheet pasta. Good slug of white Ricotta & stretchy Mozzarella. Clumps of ground beef and an acidic, bright red tomato Salsa Marinara that was a good foil to the heavier ingredients. (Couldn't vouch it was a Salsa Bolognese which is a meat sauce cooked for hours into a brown sauce finish. ) However, Buon Gusto pulled through with a very nice Southern Italian version of an iconic Piatto Italiano. 3) Veal Mona/Vitello a la Mona: The veal is covered with flour and gently pan fried. It's to the cook's credit that the veal was not overcooked into stiff, dry, mealy cardboard. It was moist, firm yet had a plushness. Sauce was a sweet Marsala wine sauce which was OK. Perhaps a light acidic red wine sauce with an herbal infusion would have been a better pairing. Still a better executed veal than at other Ristoranti. Nice medley of carrots, zucchini, broccoli that seemed slightly steamed and then sautéed in a light oil. Capellini d'Angelo/angel hair pasta was the main carb. 1-2a) Montepulciano d'Abruzzo: Red wine with a juicy, high dark blackberry factor with a pepperiness. Light in bitter tannins. Higher acidity to refresh the palate. Good pairing for tomato based Italian food. Food at Buon Gusto may not be Alta Cucina Italiana like Vivi in North Hollywood nor Grano in Duarte, but more than acceptable for those seeking a good meal at a reasonable price that doesn't break the bank. 4- stars read more

I can't believe it took us almost ten years of living in Granada Hills to find this place. The staff is amazing and the food is authentic Italian. Service can be slow when they are busy but the staff and food make up for it. It's a great place to enjoy a meal with friends and family. Was looking for a place that served great Italian yum yums and this place popped up due to the great reviews. Its situated in its own corner, parkingvmay be a little tight but i think you can park on the side street right next to the resturant. The inside is really nice, with a romantic vibe to it. We didnt have to wait at all and were seated quickly. Our server patti was very warm and friendly and took our orders and brought some nice fresh bread, and continued to check on us and refill our drinks. I got the meat lasagna which the portion was pretty big. The wifey got the seafood soup or gazpacho which she said was very flavorful. The kiddos got the picata chicken and spaghetti. A really nice little hole in the wall spot in Mission Hills. We came in for dinner and had the Chicken Marsala and the daily special, which had shrimp and noodles with a kind of licorice-flavored sauce (very interesting and unique!), and both were very good. The chicken was tender, and the Marsala sauce was rich and flavorful. The special was fresh and light. If I had any comments on the special, it would be that I felt a little hungry still at the end of the meal from my order of the daily special. It came with 6 shrimp and about 2/3 of the pasta I would have expected at a family-style Italian restaurant, and I felt like it needed at least a few more shrimp and more noodles to get me a little fuller. The vibe in the restaurant was cozy and inviting. The music was classic and fun. It felt like the perfect backdrop for a relaxed dinner. The service was low-key and easygoing, and they were great about checking in on drinks without overdoing it. One of the highlights was the little heart-shaped breads they brought out before the meal. Unacceptable. Reservation for a 70th birthday celebration made a week in advance. I was not informed of the wine tasting event happening at the same time. Our table was not ready. Party was moved twice. We had to wait for a table liner, we were short place settings, no water or wine glasses on the table. We had to ask multiple times for the various missing items. Servers were pleasant but inexperienced (one of my guests had to instruct on how to cork the wine bottle!) The manager was not particularly available or helpful. He barely helped with getting us seated but didn't check in at all. We have celebrated other occasions at Buon Gusto but sadly this one was disappointing and overall mediocre at best. read more

We knew of this place as we attended a cheer banquet. I had never seen this place even though I'm literally 10 min away. The place is clean and open very nice views, open windows. This is a surprise find in 2024! I can see why this restaurant has been around since 1993 - they have excellent food and their wait staff are fantastic specially Saul! A friend suggested to meet at this location in Mission Hills for her birthday dinner. Her favorite drink when we go out at any restaurant is Prosecco so I suggested we share a bottle since we are eating Italian food! So glad we did for it was the perfect accompaniment to my Rissoto ala pescatore and her chicken manicotti. They started with the yummy bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and butter is available also. Their servings of our main meals does not do justice with the pictures. Typically it is less but in our case, they were massive. The risotto was "swimming" with seafood - shrimp, salmon, squid, clams, and mussels. Her serving of chicken with side of veggies and angel hair pasta was a good size portion (sorry, forgot to take pictures though). To top it all, Saul was so great (forgot the name of other wait staff who was also excellent) for he remembered it was my friend's birthday and they came out with a delicious cream brûlée! Before we left the restaurant, we were both planning to take other friends and our own families here. It is a great place right off the 405 to meet with friends to dine, for a date (saw a couple while we were there) and celebrate with families also. We will definitely return!
