This small only 15 rooms Motel is really nice, both inside and out. Each room has a different name (e.g.: Mona Lisa, Serenity, etc. Mine was Starry Nights though, after not sleeping the night before, my night here was anything but starry). Unlike some of the other reviews, and the pictures that show it, they have upgraded the rooms with flat screen TV and remodeled bathroom (even though there's no countertop, there is a set of shelves that work just as good). My room and bathroom were spotless from what I could see. A very nice place to stay for a few days, if necessary. The Wi-Fi, is free and works well. And, if I remember correctly, it is secured (sorry, but I went about 32 hours without sleep. So, I don't recall exactly, as I didn't use it long). The only problem that I was able to find, is that they don't start serving breakfast until 0800. So early eaters will probably have to go out for breakfast (see my review for the Powderhorn Cafe). And, with the wine classes at they have available, it might make a nice anniversary getaway, too. I'll post pictures later, as I have to transfer them from my laptop to this phone first. read more

Grants Pass has a large variety of motels and it seems I find a new gem every time I visit. The Buona Sera Inn is just that kind of place. It's a very quaint old school motel oozing character. Margaret, the current owner, told me that the motel was built in the 30s and then the other half was added in the 50s to create the motel's current horseshoe shape. The motel has been updated many times over the years and mixes vintage with modern very easily. There are only 15 rooms, but each one is unique, with some having full kitchens and bedrooms. There are painted murals of vines and such on the walls, and the rooms come with bathroom, shower, kitchen (with eating utensils and plates) fridge, microwave and even a dining table. The bed was comfortable if not a bit too squishy. It's all done in the style of the old motels where you parked in front of your room. Jackie, the check in lady, was helpful and kind and made checking in a breeze. It's located on one of the main streets in Grants Pass and is within walking distance of a bunch of helpful stores and restaurants. With all this charm and very affordable pricing, this is my new go-to motel in the Grants Pass area. read more

I love the old fashioned decor, floral bedsheet, mural in the bathroom, etc. It has everything I need....comfortable, quiet, hot shower, good heating and air, a window in the bathroom I can open for fresh air, coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, luggage rack, etc. Reasonably priced. It's good to support local small businesses when feasible. I stayed for 3 nights and would definitely stay here again in the future. Oh and I arrived after hours and was pleasantly surprised to see numbered parking spaces that matches the room numbers! Loved that! read more

From the outside it looks like a typical motel. Inside, each room is individually decorated, with great, quirky taste. The place is squeaky clean. The staff gets two thumbs up for friendly service. Prices are very reasonable. Less than a quarter mile away is the Powderhorn Cafe, an old fashioned breakfast and lunch place. This place is a dump. The best things about it was that it was cheap and clean and that's important at any time, but especially when you're on a road trip. That being said, the bed was extremely old and uncomfortable and we did not enjoy our night's sleep here. The shower was also terrible and the shower head was made for a 5' tall person; we had to bend over just to get our head wet and it made for a very uncomfortable shower. You also can't take any breakfast (just coffee, oatmeal, pastries, yogurt, and juices) out of the "dining room", which was annoying since we wanted to get on the road quickly. The fact that it was cheap and clean keeps it from being a 1 star place, but I would never stay here again. read more

Cutest and friendliest inn ever; I stayed one night in the Mona Lisa Room and I was charmed by all the care they put into every detail, from the key-turn lamp to the hand painted decor to their lovely furnishing choices. I had a 4 day stay. Was perfect for my needs. Very Comfy bed with pecale sheets, tiny kitchen complete with all needs, shower with fluffy towels, air conditioning. Truly a charming old motel, lovely decor, very comfortable and accommodating, a very nearby park to walk my dog, and the owners are absolutely darling. My only problem was a too soft bed for my back problems. Otherwise, I highly recommend the Buona Serra. Also, it is very close to the Historic Area downtown. Great restaurants and wonderful gelato. Very friendly people. We loved The Laughing Clam restaurant. Also toured the town and enjoyed the charming area. I have been coming to this motel for the last couple years and telling my friends about it; however, after today I will never come back here again. They claim they are pet friendly and when I went to check in, I had my little dog on my lap, the owner told me I could not have dogs in the lobby. I pointed it out he was on my lap so I didn't think it was a big deal considering it was just for couple minutes while I get my receipt. He then told me to leave my dog outside chained up on the 92 degrees hot weather. I was furious and was shocked he even suggested that. This is animal abuse and I refuse to come back here. read more

This place is absolutely fantastic! Each room is different! The beds are very comfortable and the shower is exceptionally clean. It has non-carpeted floors, so the entire room feels so much cleaner. I stayed in the Romance Room, king bed, and it was great. The room had direct tv, a microwave, and small fridge. They can also put a coffee maker in your room if you'd like. I checked in late, but it was very easy. I love parking right outside the door. Wi-fi worked great as well! In the morning, they serve pastries and muffins. Stopped here mid way on our road trip to Portland. Very clean and comfortable stay. Super friendly staff and excellent service. Rates were also very reasonable. The room was a little smaller than the pictures would indicate, but that's typical. Lots of traffic noise from the busy street was the only complaint. Definitely avoid the low numbered rooms if you can, maybe the others don't experience the noise as much. Each of the rooms at this motel were a different configuration with a unique decorating theme. You know what they say, you get what you pay for...and this is exactly that! The rooms are cozy and clean! The beds are old and really uncomfortable, but the sheets smelled clean - sanitized. The bathroom was clean and also smelled like sanitized cleaners. I think a final spray of something with a pleasant odor would have been nice. Although the motel is small and sits right on the main drag, you don't really hear it, especially once you put on the air conditioner; which worked great. Conveniently located just before you hit the main part of downtown, this place is good for the price. The older couple that was running it were friendly and very knowledgeable about the city and surrounding area. Get better beds and a few more comfortable pieces of furniture, and this will be a great deal for the dollar. read more

This lovely place is a great value and more importantly, to me, it was immaculately Clean! First impressions upon driving by - might dissuade you, but the reviews here were so positive, I stayed two nights and it was Fabulous. The room was perfect for me, traveling alone, and absolutely clean in every corner with fresh linens and towels. There was a small fridge and microwave if needed. The atmosphere was quiet and private. The continental breakfast was minimal, though enough, if you're on the run to get the day started. The owners, Mardie and John, have been there for just over a year and are wonderful hosts, very helpful and personable. They go out of their way to do all they can to make sure your stay is a wonderful experience. A few small things I would have liked as additions: a luggage rack to have my suitcase off the floor, a shelf for my stuff in the bathroom and a clock in the room, though I used my phone which was fine. The air conditioner was noisy but more importantly the room was COOL as the temps outside were 100+ I absolutely recommend this Inn. I'll be returning on my next trip to Grants Pass. read more

I have to say "You can't judge a book by its cover" is very true here. I judged it by the fact it is an older style hotel. When we arrived I even asked to see the room before I checked in. It isn't a giant chain hotel, it is small, well decorated, very clean and charming. The staff has been exceedingly nice and helpful. What a lovely property. It was originally an old motel form the 30's that has been remodeled and updated. Each room is decorated differently which makes the rooms unique. We arrived in the late afternoon after traveling from Eugene, OR. We were aware of the fires happening all around the area as smoke could be seen but not smelled. The air conditioning and ceiling fans were super to keep the room cool and free from outside smoke. The room was refreshing with a full on tiled bathroom just like home. The Angel Room where we stayed came with two queen size beds with oak decor. I felt like royalty. The light breakfast consisted of locally baked pastries, juice , coffee,tea, milk and fruit. I was looking for a place to stay on the way to somewhere else. Just needed a place to sleep and didn't want to spend a lot. I searched several different cities and finally came across a hotel that seemed to meet my requirements. Buona Sera Inn is a clean, quiet, comfortable, and safe place. It was the perfect resting place. The rooms all have themes and different prices. You can find one to meet your budget. The office closes at 10pm and check in is by appointment only after that. Pay attention to your arrival time. I made it before 10 and check-in was quick and easy. We got room 5 ($64 with tax). I liked the colors and style of the room. It was big and clean. It also smelled really fresh too. They definitely scrub this place and keep things immaculate. The room has a small kitchen with appliances, dishes, and silverware. The bathroom is a little small. This is not a major problem but for a clumsy person like me I'm knocking things over left and right. They also have a breakfast with a few healthy options included. I've traveled a lot and I'm commissioned as a travel writer so I've seen and experienced a lot. The good, bad, and ugly. While this place was comfortable there is a definite lack of diversity in the area (not just the hotel but the city as well) which can be felt. It's not the obvious blatant stuff but the smaller things that do get noticed. Still, the owners try hard and have pride in their property and their work. read more

I'm writing this review right now, eating my complimentary Corn Pops cereal & drinking Keurig brewed coffee w/ vanilla creamer ferried to my room by moi on a little serving tray...& I'm sitting in my small, cozy, clean, warm room. I could hear the traffic outside until it died down after midnight, & there is a very faint musty odor in the room, not bad, & not unexpected for an old building no matter how clean. I'm not complaining: both are to be expected & can't be fixed & I'm ok with that, but I'm telling you in case something like that would bother you. Their little courtyard is convenient, you park right near your room. You can tell the innkeepers take pride in their investment & really try to make a traveler feel comfortable. If you're expecting the 5 star reviews to mean this place has amenities like a pool, gym, laundry, oversized rooms...move on or adjust your expectations. This place is PERFECT for someone like me: on a budget, hoping for a cheap place with no druggies, hookers, or cockroaches. so this very clean & friendly place was an unexpected gem for me. I like the hardwood floor: I have allergies & dusty or old carpets make them flare up. Room had microwave (so I could make my nighttime mint tea, yay!), fridge, hairdryer, & even wineglasses. I was staying in Grants Pass for the night, thinking about sleeping in my car, but um, too cold! Too scary! Called Buona Sera @ 6:15 pm, spoke to very nice John, & booked the room for $59. Fantastic place to stay. Rooms were cleaned and well stocked, and continental breakfasted included. This wasn't your run of the mill hotel, as they kept a careful eye out for details likes the navy blue towels that weren't your trashy quality towels, and decorative sink handles which really accentuated the feel of the room. Warm water, AC and heater, even DirecTV and a flatscreen! Not that I'm the type to use such things, but to have them available was nice. SUPER friendly staff, pleasure to chat with and pleasure to deal with. Very accommodating at the end of a tough drive, and an overall excellent experience. Can't stress enough how willing the staff was to help out, and provide anything they thought the room was lacking. If we pass through this area and need to stop again, we will definitely be stopping at this hotel once more! read more

Ok, so I'm surprised that I am giving a motel a four star rating but here is why... 1. IMMACULATELY clean and comfortable. 2. There was somehow a miscommunication about the arrival date - the Inn rectified easily with no penalty. 3. The desk staff took it upon themselves to open the office a half an hour early on the morning of our departure to be sure we could enjoy the breakfast offerings - which were really good! This is a sweet little hotel that is nice to stay in as it is not like the cookie-cutter corporate places. This is the second time we have stayed here; the first visit, we had a very small room, but this time, our room felt much more spacious, and had a small, but excellent shower (clean and good water pressure). The rooms felt a bit "old-school", but they were very clean and charming. I was tickled to see the sheets on the bed matched ones that my mother used to have on her bed! So, like I said, a bit "old-school" but very comfortable and nice for a change of pace. Also, the hotel is quite close to downtown, so we could walk to shops/restaurants, which was a plus! read more

The bed was clean and comfortable, the rooms are thoughtfully appointed and decorated and the owners are very nice, friendly and welcoming. They offer a free continental breakfast in the morning.
