I have never left a review for any business but I have to for this one. The food was amazing. The fries are the best fries I have ever tried and I mean it. The mozzarella sticks are the best I have ever had to. They even have a patty just for my dog. I work for a restaurant and I wish I knew the supplier for the fries and the mozzarella sticks. Stopped by after a light hike. Great service! We sat in a cozy booth indoors. There's also outdoor seating. The food was hot and fresh. We ordered the Western Bacon burger with chili cheese fries and it did not disappoint. Sorry! Totally dug into the burger and didn't get a picture. The burger was stacked! Perfectly crisp bacon, meat cooked to perfection, the bun was soft and slightly crispy, crispy onions, and the sweet and tangy bbq sauce= heaven. Would definitely come back! read more

As an outta towner, I was a little hesitant to try this little burger spot out because of the recent reviews. We had a toddler with us and we were exhausted from our morning trip from three Apple Hill farms. But I was adamant about having a western burger, packed everyone up, and headed to this small town. The parking is very limited. Street parking with about 6 spots in the front of the restaurant with additional street parking across the busy street. Around lunch time can be an issue since a lot of people come and go to pick up but we were fortunate to get a spot in the front. With Covid-19, in door seating was not an option but the out door seating was great especially since the weather was perfect (and of course our messy/loud toddler). There was about four large picnic tables and a few smaller tables to push together, if needed. We ordered from a small window in the front and let me tell you, when the waitress opened that window and the smell came out - I knew we were in the right spot! It smelled heavenly. She was nice, polite, and ordering kind of took a while (but hey, it's a small local spot so I'm not expecting fast food franchised ordering). We got our drinks, found a spot, and relaxed. (Note to all: I'm pretty sure the establishment knows that they take some time in preparing food. There's a large sign acknowledging it.) The waitress that brought our food out was a bit rude and dismissive but I could tell that it wasn't within her intentions and we shrugged it off. The Western Burger was awesome! Perfect seasoning and amount of bbq sauce that I devoured every bit of it. I ordered the beer battered fries and preferred it over the regular fries while the chicken nuggets were a slam dunk with my kid. My husbands burger was good but he was a bit salty that we ended up going to this place rather than his option so I'd like to omit his opinion. Overall, we were pleased with the service and the food was great - especially after a crazy day. read more

We decided to stop at this place after driving a ways out of Lake Tahoe since we were in the mood for a burger. Nicole, I thought she said her name was, greeted us quickly, and got our waters and order. I'm not normally a milkshake lover, but we decided to try their black cherry milkshake, as it sounded nice for such a hot day. When we got the shake we were thrown off that it had no color as expected something with real cherries or at least a red color. It did not taste good to either of us and tasted artificial and bland. For food I ordered the Bacon Blue Burger and my guy chose the Philly Cheese Steak, corn dog and fried mushrooms to share. When we sat down were only a few other tables so we were surprised it took as long as it did for the food to come out. My burger was missing the pickles and tomatos, which our server apologized and brought right away. We both thought the Philly had a freezer burnt taste to it, and after a bite of the corn dog my guy ended up sending it back as the menu indicates the hotdogs are beef, and said his tasted like a turkey/bologna. I did like my burger and that along with the fried mushrooms were pretty good in both our opinions. Our server was very attentive and provided great service even though she was running around as they did start to get busy and apologized for the wait, etc. This place wasn't quite as good as we hoped, but if we did ever return would probably stick with burgers and fried mushrooms. read more

Solid burger joint! We drove up to Pollock Pubes to hang out at Jenkinson Lake for a bit with the kiddos. Once we were done with the beach fun and sun we were hungry. Of course I pulled up handy dandy Yelp and burger barn had good reviews and it's so close to the freeway so we decided to give it a try. My hubby ordered a double jalapeño burger, my son ordered a jr. bacon cheeseburger, large garlic fries to share and I ordered the 4pcs fish and chips with a house salad to share with my baby girl. Any who, my hubby said the burger was juicy and delicious, he would give it an 8 out of 10. My son said he enjoyed his burger as well with a two thumbs up! The Fried fish was tasty as well, crunchy and flavorful, no complaints here. My daughter and I ate it all along with the house salad which consist of lettuce, tomatoes, thinly sliced onions, shredded cheeses and dressing, nothing out of the ordinary. If we're ever in that neck of the woods again we will definitely stop by and enjoy their yummy burgers and fried fish! read more

Our favorite stop when passing through Dunsmuir. Great burgers, perfectly cooked. Outside patio with minimal indoor seating. Afternoons in the summer are rough with the sun, I recommend stopping earlier on the day. read more

I'd give it five stars if not for the sad small minded attitude of the owners towards their staff - blaming "government handouts" for people not wanting to work for them. After visiting the apple farms, even though we missed apple picking season by about a month, we found this little place to grab a bite to eat before heading back. It was a bit chilly outside, but not too bad. I ordered a burger with pastrami and it was okay, nothing special. Service was a bit chilly though. Although Burger Barn is known for their burgers, I must give a shoutout to their coffee and chili bean soup. These two items, after a cold and snowy day in the mountains, was the ultimate comforter. One thing I wish was better is their kitchen's ventilation - during our stay, the oil from the potato fryers clouded the entire room. The oily odor saturated our clothes and we left smelling like a grease pan. read more

Hands down the best burger joint in the area. I highly recommend stopping by anytime you are in the area. I usually get the double cheese burger with nothing else. The meat is juicy and crispy at the same time - greasy, cheesy just right. The most recent time I visited I got the philly cheese steak - I asked the waiter for her honest opinion and she said its one of the most popular item on the menu. The sandwich could use more meat and but overall the cheese, bun and veggies works together super yummy. I also had a side of the onion rings and it was freshly fried crunchy and sweet. For drinks I shared an Oreo milk shake with my husband and all I need to say is GET IT! read more

Great fries (beer battered french fries, they also have sweet potato, both were crispy and delicious), good shakes, and OK burgers. 3 burgers and 2 large fry and 2 shakes put us back $47. The price reflects an "upscale" burger, but honestly all our burgers were just ok (got a pastrami burger, mushroom burger, and regular cheeseburger). There was a lot more bun to meat and the meat wasn't as flavored as I would hope, I tasted bun and toppings more than meat. Location: this restaurant is in the small town of Pollock Pines, relatively close off the highway, and therefore could make an easy pit stop if you're in the area. There are not many other food options in the direct vicinity, however in a pinch there is a Safeway next door and you could get something from the deli worst case. COVID Times Considerations: -the waitress who I paid at the cash register had her mask "half on", and I noticed a cook in the back was NOT wearing a mask -they accept phone orders -they do have outdoor seating, but no heaters and it can be very cold (like there is some snow on the ground currently) Parking: -just a few spaced directly in front, otherwise on the street, there is no lot read more

On our way home from South Lake and the kids were hungry. This popped up as an option within a mile of us and had great reviews so we tried it. I usually get pictures but dove right in (sorry). But their turkey melt was so good - and why "so" good? Let's just say they grill cheese on the outside of the bread. It was piled with turkey and had bacon and avocado too. Husband had the Rueben and said he'd come back for it. Even the jr burgers were cooked perfectly and good sized. We'll be back when in the area! read more

A friend dragged me to this place as this was his go-to whenever he goes home from the Rubicon. It now will be my must-stop eatery from now on. Outdoor seating means my dog is welcome. The burger is not huge but the flavor is exactly what I want in a good burger. The fries are super crispy " like they're supposed to be!" And the O-rings are krisp and light. Good job Burger Barn! This was my first time here so my review is based on this single experience: Firstly I would recommend you place in your orders via phone ahead of time to avoid waiting in line. I wasn't in a rush so decided to wait in line and to be honest wasn't so bad. We tried about 2 different burgers, each with a unique flavor. These burgers aren't and don't taste like fast food, they are delicious, juicy, and gone before you realize you've eaten the entire thing. I really like the fact you can choose the number of patties you want 1...2...3...heck make it 4!!!! The waffle fries were crunchy and plenty enough to complement the juicy burger. Unfortunately a shake didn't sound appetizing but we will return and update my review! Ps. Enjoy their Norwegian Rock Garden. read more

Holy Cow! Literally THE BEST Pastrami Double I've ever had, and the prices are unbeatable. We are a family owned and ran business, we use only fresh never frozen meat and preservative free fresh baked breads. We love our customers and try to have a family atmosphere and make you feel at home. We pride our self in giving good quality food and service. Mountain Democrat wrote "The Burger Barn has a sign that says, "Fresh Home Style Cooking and Atmosphere," and it lives up to that by being very friendly and serving good food. Just ask the customers. Walked in, not expecting much, but at least some decent food to feed our hungry belly's. It was Saturday evening around 615ish, front of house was running around, but when she spotted us, showed us to our table, gave menus, and apologized as it might be a minute before our server would be able to take our orders because it has suddenly gotten busier than expected (large place but only about 1/4 full, but with 2 large groups, one of which was just seated before us) she came back with waters while we looked at the menu. Once our server came she was polite and took our drink order, promising to be back to take our food order. Understandably it took longer than usual to come back, so another man came to take our order. He apologized for the wait and said he would be happy to take our orders. We think he was the manager or possibly owner, really nice gentleman. We ordered the tiger prawns and Brussels sprouts appetizers, I ordered fish n chips, my husband ordered the rib eye with Mac n cheese and our friend ordered the salmon. The Tiger Prawns and Brussels came out first and the tiger prawns were amazing! 5 large tiger prawns, a couple pcs of toasted baguette, and in a type of white wine garlic Alfredo sauce type. The sauce was perfection, as I dipped each bite of prawn and soaked the accompanied bread. The Brussels were just as amazing, fried to have a nice crisp to it, but not soaking in oil, so they must've been fried in the perfect temp oil or something, and the glaze was just right (a lot of places just drench them in glaze as they're sitting there soaked in oil, but not the case here!) The ribeye was cooked very well (medium rare) and the hubby thought the salt level was PERFECT. It was a little salty for me, but I don't like a lot of salt. My husband almost always orders a good steak when available, and he thought it was great. The accompanying side of veggies were great too! Heavy on the garlic, but we love garlic so we thought it was perfect. The fish n chips were good, fries were ok, but not my style. They were more like shoe string fries, but that's their thing and a lot of people like that style. The tartar sauce was surprisingly good, and not just that cheap store bought stuff a lot of places tend to give. Friend with the salmon said it was good and ate it all. The gentleman that took our order forgot to add the fish n chips, but quickly rectified it, apologizing and bringing out some fries for me to munch on as the fish was getting cooked. Not a big deal to me, as I was already happy with the other items we had. He also came to our table once we were done and chatted with us for a bit, which was very nice of him. Valerie's service was warm and personalized, we were clearly from out of town and she was very welcoming. She had many stellar recommendations of her personal favorites. The clam chowder was outstanding / phenomenal (and we came from San Francisco so you know that endorsement doesn't come lightly)! I also enjoyed my Goulash with spatzle and kraut, creamy and it really hit the spot. My wife enjoyed her Jaegerschnitzle with potato pancake and kraut. Both delicious options! When I come back in the future, I want to try to Stroganoff and the Baby Back Ribs! And I'll ask for a table in Valerie's section, bc her kindness took our experience over the top.
