One thing that's cool about this spot is that it's open until 2:00AM--yeah you heard that right! Big backs have a new late night home in central San Diego! Anyways, I ordered the single-patty SmokeShack burger combo with regular fries and a large Diet Coke. The staff member who brought me the food asked if wanted sauces and happily obliged my request for their signature Shake Shack sauce and ranch. The food showed up looking very tasty and well-presented. The fries kick In-N-Out's butt any day, though that's a pretty low bar to set if we're being honest. The burger was a little greasy, but it was super flavorful and tasted like pretty high-quality meat. I liked this a lot more than In-N-Out--sincerely. One downside is the ranch. It's kind of not that ranch-y to me. I think it's lacking dill and a bit too heavy on the mayo. The house sauce shreds In-N-Out spread though. The other primary downside of this place is the price tag. It's debatable whether $20 for this plate is justified, but in a world where a Big Mac meal costs about $14 after tax, I guess it's fine.
