    California mess and fries
    John H.

Burger Village in San Luis Obispo is a standout for anyone who loves variety--whether you're into classic meats, exotic proteins, or plant-based patties. Here's my take: Proteins for Every Palate * Organic Classic Beef: A reliably juicy, grass-fed patty. Goes great with cheddar, roasted peppers, and their signature sauce. * Exotic Meats: Think elk, bison, lamb, turkey--and yes--boar, salmon, and even ostrich. A reviewer said their ostrich tasted "like a gamier turkey burger" and enjoyed the creative toppings pairing . Several folks name the elk burger "amazing." * Chicken, Salmon & More: You can also go with a chicken sandwich or salmon, each customizable with loads of toppings. () * Vegan/Plant-Based Options: Includes black bean, cauliflower, gluten-free veggie, and Impossible patties--with vegan buns, cheese, and spicy veganaise. Vegans love the flexibility: "Have multiple options on what type of vegan burger you want and you can put any toppings on it." Toppings & Build Your Own The topping game is on point: sautéed onions, mushrooms, pico de gallo, guac, fire-roasted peppers, jalapeños, fried eggs, applewood bacon, vegan mozzarella--the list goes on. There's also wraps or lettuce/ gluten-free buns, making it easy to build a burger that fits your vibe. () Beer Bar & Aesthetic Step inside and you're met with a bright, open layout: a sleek bar lined with a dozen-plus taps and a fridge of bottled beer. Draft beer lovers will delight--over 30 on tap, including local craft selections. One Yelp fan put it simply: "Huge on‑tap beer selection... can't wait to go back." Wood accents, brick walls, and big windows give the space an airy, relaxed feel--perfect for a casual date night or post-work hang. Sides & Extras * Fries & Tots: Hand-cut fries, waffle fries, tots, and sweet potato fries--crispy and well-seasoned. * Appetizers: Vegan cauliflower tenders, loaded fries, falafel, even Impossible tenders. * Salads & Shakes: Hearty salads (like the signature tostada salad) and organic shakes round out the menu. () Atmosphere & Service The vibe is friendly and laid-back. One SLO local noted that service was "super friendly and attentive," and that it's usually easy to grab a seat--even on weekends. Final Verdict Why it rocks: * Stellar protein variety--classic, exotic, vegan * Topping freedom meets creative combos * Great beer selection in an open, inviting space * Solid sides, shakes, and eco-conscious ethos (organic, peanut-free, gluten-free) What to note: * Exotic burgers can be pricier * Buns (especially brioche) can be a tad dry--ask for vegan or gluten-free options Rating 4.5/5 - Burger Village strikes an excellent balance between adventurous eats and comfort classics, all served in a welcoming, beer-friendly atmosphere. Whether you're craving elk or an Impossible stack, there's something to elevate your burger game. Next time you're in downtown SLO, pair your custom build with a cold craft brew--your tastebuds (and Insta feed) will thank you.

    Big boy supreme burger

Bitchin best beefy big boy burger brioche bun - a little alliteration before tastin. It's organic, don't panic! Grass grazing steer patties fresh onto the Village Burger grill - get ready to burger build your way. My way - big boy supreme burger with cheddar cheese, lettuce, pickles, sautéed onions, signature sauce, grilled jalapeños and bacon. Hand cut hot hot hot fries and crunchy coleslaw. I had help on the order by Maria "the Greek Burger Goddess" taking my wife and I on a scrumptious sounding tour of the menu. I wanted everything! I much appreciated Maria's chit chat charm and friendly smile taking down the order of the best burger in town. Then, my eyes poppin, gripped that burger with both my paws, open jaws - took down that burger bite by bite with the burger juice and toppings drip drip dripping down my cheeks! Delish feast for this burger lover! Wife and I are Portand foodies - we're impressed with the Village Burger quality/taste, vibe and service.

Good lunch/dinner spot if you're craving a burger. Our waiter was super friendly and took time to explain their menu which had a wide range of patty and topping options. The food came out super quick and we were happy with the portions. My patty was a bit bland/lacking seasoning, but overall I enjoyed the flavors of my burger. The sweet potato fries and onion rings were a hit, but we thought the regular fries were just okay. Our waiter brought over a ton of condiments and we enjoyed the chipotle ketchup and house sauce. Although this is a casual burger spot, it's definitely not a cheap meal (~$30 per person with fries and a bev). For that reason, we would maybe choose other cheaper burger spots, however we thought the quality of the burgers and service still made this a solid choice.

Meant to review this sooner but totally forgot, lol! Was there a few weekends ago when we were visiting SLO. Totally a college town, it was quiet here at noon...the crowds only started showing up after 1pm, so we had the undivided attention of our server Aidan, haha! The selections here are extensive and quite interesting, with meats like bison, elk & boar as options, as well as non- meat like the Impossible or Beyond burger, and gluten-free is marked on their menu. They also had a variety of fun fixings to pair with their burgers. Other thing I liked was that pretty much everything was organic & as natural as possible, which was great! My only concern was that the prices were a bit steep for burgers, & the menu was a bit confusing, so it adds up quickly the more you customize. When i substituted my fries for coleslaw, it added $3, & getting my burger "dressed" with the I-M-Possible dressing added another $, resulting in my burger being a whopping $23! But the food did taste quite good! Since I can't eat beef, I was just glad to get the Impossible & still enjoy the burger taste!

I was surprised with how much I ended up liking this place. Service is slow and ketchup tastes a little different, but the burger and fries are so well seasoned and the different combinations they have all sound delicious. I made mine cali style and it was so so good with the red peppers and avocado

Organic food in downtown San Luis Obispo. They specialize in burgers made with specialty meats. We had the elk burger and the wild boar burger. Both were very good and the meat tasted fresh and not gamey at all. Good sized portions. You can make your own burger with toppings or order one of the suggested combinations which cost more. If you check in on Yelp, you can get complimentary fries. With everything added up, it was not a cheap meal (it was about $30 at least per person with the burgers, sides, soft drink) for lunch. We wanted to try the ostrich burger but they were out of it this day.

Wide variety of vegan burger options!

Such a great find. Very wide variety of burgers, but most notably a whole selection of vegan burgers plus other vegan noms like vegan wings and vegan tenders. At most restaurants, there is maybe one vegan/veggie burger on the menu, but this place has a whole slate of them. Ambiance is good, with windows to the street and fresh air. Service was good (server Onor was very knowledgeable) and prices were about what you'd expect for a place in downtown SLO. (Not cheap, but out of line for the market.) Will be craving their vegan chkn tenders and definitely come back again.

Bison Jalo Pkwy and fried pickles
    Jordan K.

Came here as part of a Yelp event and had a chance to peek at the menu on the walk over. They have many types of meat and meatless options. If you're a vegetarian or vegan they do have a lot of choices for you. After deciding on the bison burger Jalo Pkwy style we also got a side of fries and fried pickles. The fried pickles were so good since it had a kick of spiciness to them. The cornmeal batter was perfectly done with some red chili flakes. The bison burger came out perfect and was so juicy. The Jalo Pkwy toppings made the burger over the top with the fried egg and smoked mozz. Gloria, our server, was great! She did an excellent job checking on us and made sure everything was going good. Overall A++ from service to the food. I will definitely be back to try the other burgers on the menu.

I got a regular beef burger with a gluten free bun, no special toppings just cause I wanted to taste the basics for what it is. I wasn't too impressed, it's an okay burger and nothing really stood out. For the price I feel like I could've gotten a much better burger elsewhere. The fries were also only okay, not that crispy and a bit limp/soggy as I'm sure you can tell in the photo. The food also took a long time to come out. Which is fine, I understand it get busy, just something to note. Our waitress was really friendly though, since it was our first time she explained how everything worked and how to spruce up our burgers. I just wish the food had been a bit better.

Beer! The best part of our meal.

Awful service. Food was okay, but they messed up our order, and we waited for an hour to get our food. Ridiculous.
