Beachy decor, polite cashier, bottomless sodas (but cup too small), no handicapped parking so I just parked at the fence with my placard. It was loud, can't help hearing everyone's conversations. I stopped by Garlands today and picked up a fried pastrami sandwich with an order of our favorite onion rings an a small fries. Also a banana malt. Everything was great. The pastrami was nice and lean and grilled really nice. Was a really nice size sandwich with pickles and mustard. I ended up splitting with my wife and shared the fries and union rings. Haven't been here in years and was doing some business down the street so I popped in. Doesn't look like it has changed much. The women were super friendly. Nice outdoor patio for a warm day like today. I got the western bacon cheeseburger as I've been craving something like that for awhile. It came out pretty quick and looked amazing. The bacon was nice and crispy, the onion ring was probably the best I've had on a burger. I guess I was just disappointed in the patty, it was pretty small, I should have ordered a double. I mean it was the right size for the bun, full coverage, just thin. Fries were perfectly cooked and had a nice light seasoning on them. Located at almost the end of Grand Ave, is Garlands. This burger joint has its own parking and street parking. Next to the parking lot is a fenced in area to eat with tables. Inside, there are about 5 tables. You go up, look at the picture menu on the wall or menu in front of the register. I was greeted and ordered the Turkey Burger, Lg Fry, Onion Rings, and a coke. Self served coke and the guy brought the food to our table. The turkey burger seemed homemade. It was thicker than any turkey burger around, huge plus. Flavorful, well seasoned, with fresh veggies on top. The fries are thicker than the shoe strings, but not that thick. Seasoned well and cooked well. The onion rings were crunchy. The ranch complemented the rings well. They were good. My daughter had a strawberry milkshake that I snuck a few sips, it was Great! I've been going to Garlands all my life. They use to have another one in Nipomo and I use to eat there all the time. This visit to Garlands was a little different. I didn't taste the peppery taste, but that wasn't a bad thing. The burger was cooked great and the new buns are good. The fries are always good and the milkshake is even better. They also offer a lot of non mean items and chicken burgers for anyone who doesn't eat meat or beef. The service was great. I am already craving it again. It is pretty pricey. They have new ownership, as I understand it was sold mid year 2024. I just went back for the first time yesterday and was pleasantly surprised! James at the counter was extremely nice and helpful. The food was great, everything made to order and was hot and fresh and delicious. I got a double bacon burger with some onion rings that were hot and crispy! The prices were reasonable and competitive and in line with any other restaurant. If you've ever been a garlands fan in the past I'd encourage you to go back in and give them another shot! I came in asking to see if they had breakfast options but the associate said they had an egg sandwich burger and that they let my pet schnauzer eat in their outside patio. So my wife ordered herself a patty melt, a pup patty for my schnauzer and an egg burger with bacon. I was thinking it was going to be a egg burger but wasn't expecting a beef patty in it. But wow, that was good and so was the fried zucchini that didn't burn my mouth. My wife's patty melt was big and tasty, she couldn't eat it all so she got the associate to bring out a box. I swore back in 2019 to never return here after the horrible food we got. Fast forward to 12/9/23, and my teenager begged me to try them again. It was not a good idea, and I blame myself, I knew better. 2 cheeseburgers were ordered and a shake. The buns were fine this time, but the burger was not only super thin but also super greasy - so much grease, I blotted it with a napkin. The milkshake was delicious. We had the strawberry one. For what you get, it's definitely not worth the cost of over $9 a cheeseburger. There are other burger joints around here with a far superior patty and less grease at around the same price. And yes, I'm aware the cost of everything has exploded, but for these prices, at least try and match what your competitors are serving. read more
