    Sushi boxes!
    Elaine C.

This place struck me as more of a takeout spot or sushi snack box pickup than a restaurant, but the quality of the ingredients was solid. I definitely preferred the nigiri over the rolls. Some of our favorite bites were the salmon aburi, crispy tuna rice, and scallop inari. Everything was fresh and nicely prepared. It's definitely a place that leans into aesthetics, but it's a fun experience if you like being able to pick.

perfect to pick up before a summer picnic!!! maybe not as fancy as aii Kiji but everything was honestly good; sushi is fresh and beautifully presented, and the build your own feature is amazing. I must say the price is definitely unfriendly...even for this area IN the Bay Area. Would love to see some deals

Came in 30 minutes before closing to grab a small box. They still had tons of options and it all looked very fresh. It was delicious and it's nice for a solo diner since you get to pick lots of variety. Definitely will be back if I'm craving sushi to go or have any errands in the area to run!

Saw Buri Buri right when we pulled up nearby for paid street parking. It's a great place to get some nigiri, sushi, etc. for a alight snack, since filling up the entire tray box for a filling lunch is definitely going to cost you a pretty penny. Despite this, the quality, freshness, and uniqueness of the sushi offered here and the fact that you're at Burlingame Coat Factory neighborhood makes sense. There's super limited counter seating inside, but you get complimentary water and tea and you can grab soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger. You can sort of sit outside on the bench, but it's super windy, so this is probably more of a take out place than anything. If you're not feeling sushi rolls or nigiri, you can also get some pre-made fridge sandos here (I saw egg salad during our visit), various bentos with potato salad and veggies with a weekly chef special or with classics like unagi or pork katsu, or you can get their homemade soup of the day. For our order, we got the: saba (mackerel), pressed spicy tuna sushi, maguro tuna, sea bream, hamachi (yellowtail), and Sanma fish. I had to get at least one pressed sushi since it's not offered very often and it's cube shape is pretty unique and cute. It's not bad. Had some bonito flakes and sliced jalapeno on it for a kick. I don't usually see sanma fish either, which is nice. All the fish was fresh and had a good texture to it. Altogether this was over $20 and it barely filled up a row for the box, so keep that in mind so you don't accidentally build a $100+ box. Not bad, service was helpful in answering our questions and keeping everything stocked.

I love this place and have stopped by a few times whenever I'm in the area. I really enjoy the assorted sushi selection and the variety they offer. You can pick exactly what you want and how many pieces, then have everything packed into a bento box, which is such a great way to try a little bit of everything. It's definitely a busy spot, and they also offer plenty of non-sushi options like udon bowls, sandwiches, and other items. One thing to keep in mind is that it can get pricey, so it's a good idea to ask about pricing before getting carried away -- otherwise, you might end up with a pretty hefty box! Parking is tricky, you need to park at meter parking, and or close by. That said, the quality and taste are excellent. The shiitake mushroom roll, tuna rolls, and salmon rolls are fantastic. Definitely worth trying!

Stopped by last week to pick up some late lunch and came for the rolls and sushi but the chicken sando was the Star! Everything was good but the sandwich was delicious. It was the perfect crisp with a rich sauce and soft bread. Will definitely be back!

I love this place! Great concept for sushi especially if you want to try a variety of sushi rolls without paying $20+ for one roll! I came here twice so far and the sushi is delicious! The sashimi are fresh! You can order a large or small box. I opted for a small box which fits at least nine pieces with two of them bring nigiri(s). The way it works is they charge per piece of sushi depending on what style you pick. Service is quick as everything is already displaced in front. There are limited seatings from inside and outside. They also have water and tea available for customers, which makes it feel more homey! I work very close by so I am sure I will become a regular here. Definitely will be back to try their miso carbonara udon next time! Note: They offer healthcare workers an automatic discount! Super sweet!

I was actually quite surprised with the quality of the sushi here. I got a whole variety of pieces and I really feel like you can't go wrong with what you choose here. The rolls seemed fresh and the inari were delicious. I also got the chicken teriyaki bento and this milky drink. The value was worth it in my opinion. I liked not having to order a whole role so I can sample many different ones. My kids loved the chicken teriyaki. It looked tender and nicely cooked and the little lotus chips, edamame, tomatoes, and other sides were a nice touch. The parking situation on a Friday afternoon was not ideal, but we eventually found parking on the next street over

I went on an early afternoon, and needed a quick grab and go lunch. The transaction went by so fast, just name what I wanted, pay, and leave. I was actually so excited to try this place, but why was it soo mid?!? It's a super cool concept with a bento of sushi with whatever roll or nigiri you want. Nothing about it is telling me to go back and try this place again :( The prices were expensive, if you're not smart about it you'll be shocked with what you pay for. Service was fast, the prices are either in front of the sushis itself or on the sides. We'll see if I ever make my way back.

Ever since Buri Buri came to downtown Burlingame, I've been here twice and loved it! Yes, it's a bit pricey since you pay per piece. BUT, compared to other "build-your-own" sushi box restaurants, it's more affordable! They have a good variety of nigiri's, specialty rolls, inari's, and pressed sushi. So hard to resist that I had to get almost two of everything! Worth knowing that they update their menu daily and have a rotation based on freshness of the sushi/ sashimi!

I had recently visited a build-your-own sushi box restaurant in Seattle, and was SO excited to see Buri Buri open in Burlingame. My friend and I stopped by for dinner on a Monday evening. The interior was small and casual, with minimal decor and only one real table for seating. They also had a few benches outside, but Buri Buri is definitely intended for takeout. I immediately noticed that the sushi selection was limited. By 6:30 PM, they had run out of many roll and nigiri varieties, so it's probably better to go for lunch. The nigiri was more expensive than I had expected, but the rolls were more reasonably priced. Overall, I really liked the business model of being able to mix and match, and control your own portion size. The quality of the nigiri was generally good. However, the rice was a bit dry from sitting out in the open and kept falling apart into my soy sauce. I had been most excited about the Pressed Tuna Roll, but wasn't crazy about the execution. However, I did enjoy the nigiri and Double Hamachi Roll. Service was quick and friendly!

I finally got to check this place off my list!! I've been eyeing it ever since someone posted it on Instagram. We arrived right at opening and I was so overwhelmed with the amount of options. They all look so freaking good. There were 2 size boxes and I went with the bigger size. I felt like a kid at a candy store. That one, that one, that one. So hard to resist. Good variety of inari, nigiris, and sushi rolls. Honestly it was love at first bite. I devoured all of my food. Food was definitely fresh because I went early in the morning. Staff were super friendly and welcoming. Not a lot of seating tho but they do have foldable tables and seats. I can't wait to come back for more!!

Stopped by for a quick pick up. This area has street parking only. This is a unique concept. Pick a box and select the different types sushi you like in the box. They charge by the piece you want. It is a bit on the pricey side but their quality is good. End up spending a lot without noticing it. Overall great quality and sushi was delicious.

Coming from SF, this is how you know you're in the suburbs. The skewers were delicious. A group of 4, we ordered 4 of each. We tried steak, chicken, takoyaki, fries (which were pretty much takoyaki fries), bacon-wrapped mochi, bacon enoki mushroom, unagi, fried chicken skin, Uzura Tamago (Quail Eggs), and more! Everything was good and flavorful. However, it ended up being over ~$70/person, so not cheap. I will say service was lacking. They didn't bring us the bill for over 20 minutes. We came to Mokutanya for a casual night out. It was pretty late for a sushi spot to be open on a Sunday night (around 8:30 pm), and overall, it hit the spot. The menu has a lot of variety, and it's definitely a good place to share dishes with friends or a group. FOOD: 8/10 The skewers were the highlight for me and, I believe, one of their specialties. They were well-seasoned, nicely grilled, and served hot off the grill. I also enjoyed trying a variety of small plates, which made the meal feel fun and interactive. Some dishes were better than others, but overall it was a solid experience with good flavor and variety. We ordered their Raw Oysters, and it was decent. It definitely was not the freshest we've ever tried, but it was still good, thankfully. SERVICE: 8/10 Service was standard, but the staff was chill and easygoing. AMBIANCE: 8/10 The restaurant has a warm, lively, and slightly upscale-casual feel, great for groups or a casual night out. You can experience zashiki seating, where you take off your shoes before entering the dining area and sit down at low tables. The lighting was pretty dark, lol. Overall, it's a solid late-night option if you're in the mood for skewers, small plates, and a relaxed group dining experience.

Fast forward, it's Mom's Day, kids having meals on their own as parents, our celebration is to go somewhere good to have a meal, no lines (didn't make a res), kinda spontaneous. Hanabi fits the bill. Ordered the pork belly ramen ( looked really good at a neighboring table) and the Mayu-ramen, spicy, with kfc chicken (not what you think, means something else), both with a miso base. Wait was reasonable, time to get a table was 30 seconds tops. Other nights it's been jammed but not Mom's Day, just quiet, enjoyable. Both meals were spectacularly reasonable, serving what you'd want, with enough of everything to want to dive in because you were pretty assured you were going to be satisfied. Not fru-fru or bougie, ingredients that make the dish memorable yet feel you are knowledgeable and appreciated. Pork belly was soft, fatty yet lean, cooked well enough to be tender, yet with a little chew (not disintegrating like some bellies), lots of noodles al dente so you appreciate the noodle was not a mushy mass in the bowl like some places. The Mayu came with 3 drumsticks burning hot from the fryer but oh so good because it's served in a separate dish so it doesn't get soggy. The spicy is good enough to keep things interesting with losing its identity (unlike a lot of places). And they give plenty of ramen because it's that good. We keep coming back because they serve no-frills, you-can-bank-on-it ramen that is satisfying, consistent; staff is friendly without being overbearing. It's not a big place, tables and a counter, but they know how to keep diners happy and coming back for more. What more can you ask for? Thanks, Hanabi, will definitely be back!
