My friend and I met up for dinner at Burma Choice. This is my first time dining here. My friend is a regular here. It's a pretty popular place. Plenty of parking available. The ambiance is modern, clean, and has mood lighting. I don't remember if any music was playing as we were talking and catching up the whole time. We ordered several dishes to share. Crispy Pork Belly: Thinly sliced and deep-fried crispy pork (4/5). It came with a mildly spicy dipping sauce. Tasty dish. Tea Leaf Salad: Romaine lettuce, fried yellow beans, garlic chips, sesame & sunflower seeds, peanuts, tomatoes and jalapenos all tossed with fermented green tea leaf dressing (5/5). I love the different textures, flavors, and crunch in each bite. Basil Lemongrass Chicken: Stir-fried chicken breast with soy sauce, fish sauce, snap peas, red bell pepper, lemongrass, basil, garlic, and chili (4/5). Tender thin slices of chicken breast. The sauce was good too. Burmese Shrimp Curry: Curry cooked with onion, garlic, tomatoes, topped w/Jalapenos (3.5/5). Different type of curry but I am glad I tried it. The shrimp were good sized and not overcooked. The sauce was not as thick as I would have thought for a curry. Super solid Burmese food in the South Bay! We ordered takeout (via ChowNow) from here for a late lunch, and got about 4 items for 4 people which was just about right. What we ordered: + Tea Leaf Salad (4/5) ($18): I'd imagine this to be better in store - the portion felt pretty small, but maybe it was just an illusion from the box it was in. The salad was super flavorful though, loved all of the different textures from the toppings! + Burma Choice Noodle (4/5) ($18): A flavor blast! Wasn't very spicy, super umami and savory. The lemon helped to balance it and add a bit of acidity! + Black Pepper Beef (4/5) ($20): Super tender beef! I thought the snap peas were a nice touch. It was on the bland side, it only got slightly better with the sauce, but it didn't come with the sauce right away, I had to go out of my way to ask for some sauces to go with it. Been here before and though it's not the most amazing restaurant, I do enjoy the tea leaf salad. I also had my dog with me so wanted somewhere with outdoor seating . We ordered tea leaf salad, chicken palata, and salt and pepper calamari. Got thru 3/4 of the tea leaf salad and 1/2 of the palata when I found a (hopefully not pube) hair and tried to flag down the server because we immediately lost our appetite and wanted to cancel the calamari. We found the hair same time calamari was brought out so they said they don't think they could cancel it, we understood because supplies was used and we were willing to pay it, BUT the thing that bothered us was they said "you guys should have told us about the hair earlier" ... like what, how? Lunch vs. Dinner My lunch was fabulous. Our dinner was beyond horrible. I asked for a table for 4, but there was only 2 of us. Still put down everything for 4. I knew we would need extra room for purses and whatever we brought each other. Burmese Curry Chicken- chicken thigh and all fat. No flavor. To make it the best, you put the potato on your fork and dip it in the bowl. Garlic Noodles - no flavor. Noodles are like ramen noodles. We tried another noodle dish that we had to return. The man that asked about it told us that the noodles were not cooked. They very much were gummy. We had a glass of white wine and red wine. We had to leave to get better. My favorite Burmese restaurant closed down, so I've been on a search for another great tea leaf salad, and I think I've found it! Burma Choice is located in a shopping plaza with plenty of parking. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Came on a Saturday afternoon, and we were seated right away. We started off with the Palata with Chicken Curry Dip. The palata is cut into triangles and served with a small bowl of coconut chicken curry dip. There were very large pieces of chicken in it, which I wish were a little smaller for ease of dipping and eating with the palata, but overall the dip itself was tasty. I really enjoyed their Tea Leaf Salad! Fresh, colorful, and delicious, this is what I'll be back for! Consists of romaine lettuce, fried yellow beans, garlic chips, sesame and sunflower seeds, peanuts, tomatoes, and jalapenos tossed with a fermented green tea leaf dressing (the best part!). I love a good eggplant dish, and their Eggplant Garlic comes with a generous portion! They cook it in a wok, so it has that perfect texture and is mixed in a tasty garlic sauce. We also got the Garlic Noodles (can you tell I like garlic?), and these actually come with a sauce on the side that changes the flavor the more you add to it. These were good but not a favorite. I placed online order for Asia fried rice. There is no mention of egg on the description. I still went ahead and made a note that I need vegan version. I picked my order and when I opened at home there was egg in it. I called and the lady argued first that egg is vegan. This review is based on my entire party of three's opinion. We ordered the Burma house noodles with beef, Nan gyi thoke noodles, Burmese curry with pork, crispy pork belly, a side of coconut rice, and a side of jasmine rice. Overall, there were some dishes that tasted good but some that were just "okay" and not really worth the price. You can see the break down below: 1. House noodles - this was probably the best dish we got and it was very flavorful. The noodles were Al dente, which could be good or bad depending on personal preference 2. Nan gyi thoke - very lacking in flavor, and only came with two pieces of chicken. I think the dish could have used a stronger curry base or more curry/seasoning. After mixing everything together the table all agreed that the flavor was very light and the dish tasted bland. 3. Curry with beef - very good, the curry soup is more liquid-y than most but that's not a complaint just something to keep in mind. 4. Coconut rice - the rice itself tasted undercooked as it was still hard/dry feeling but the flavor was good 5. Crispy pork belly - good no complaints. Burma Choice is tucked away in a San Jose strip mall, but definitely worth checking out if you've never had Burmese food before. Without oversimplifying the cuisine, I'd say it feels like a fusion of Indian, Thai, and Chinese flavors--which makes sense geographically. For drinks, I went with the Burma Dream, which tasted a lot like a mango lassi--super sweet but enjoyable. For apps, we got the lettuce wraps and spring rolls. The lettuce wraps were a fan favorite and disappeared quickly, while the spring rolls were pretty average. For mains, we ordered the Burmese eggplant curry (a little too salty for my taste), the Burmese curry chicken (not super impressive), and a fried rice. One thing I'm never a fan of is when restaurants charge extra for a small bowl of jasmine rice--especially when entrées are already ~$20. Feels like that should just be included, but maybe that's just me. Overall, we had plenty of food (4 entrées and 2 apps for 6 people), but I wouldn't say it was the best value. We went here on a random Thursday evening on drive home from LA to SF and found that this place was quite roomy. Well, in regards to SF restaurant standards. There were tons of tables and the service was fast. But, we don't know what this place looks like on the weekends. With that said, we got the tea leaf salad, the samusa soup, garlic noodles, coconut rice, and the sesame beef. All of it was delicious! I would say that if there was anything that I didn't have to get again, it would be the garlic noodles. But that was probably just personal preference (and my preference is for Vietnamese/SF-style garlic noodles). If there's anything I always recommend at any Burmese restaurant are the tea leaf salad and the samusa soup. I go to Burmese restaurants a lot and there are a lot of options here in the Bay Area but it's clear that this location in the South Bay is probably the best options for Burmese food in the area. Overall I like Burma Choice and have enjoyed some really delish items here. However, on multiple occasions there have been disappointing practices/experiences that have kept it from being five stars in my mind. To me, it would be about 3.5 stars. The staff are all friendly and welcoming but sometimes forgetful with things like refilling water glasses or bringing beverages that were ordered. I feel like I've also waited a while for the check to be collected, etc. They used to have a 18% gratuity that I missed the first time I came here and then ended up adding a 20% tip on of that. The experience left a bad taste in my mouth so I made sure to be aware of it for next time. I would have been happy to pay it but would have appreciated being informed. They seem to have changed the policy because I didn't see it on the check during a recent visit. In any case, the food is really yummy as I mentioned above. I've ordered the coconut rice and garlic eggplant or the garlic eggplant with prawns on two separate occasions and also the rainbow salad (mixed at the table). I came here for the first time and didn't know what to expect. The area was very nice and had lots of tables. I came an hour and a half before closing and I didn't feel rushed which was nice. Our server provided a lot of suggestions for us to try which we were so grateful for. I tried the honey walnut shrimp, house noodles, chili beef, and even tried the curry appetizer. Everything was so tasty and vibrant. The chili beef had a nice level of spice, not too hot, which I enjoyed. The noodles were good I wish we could add spice to it. The sauce is light and delicious. Nan Gyi Thoke - This is my go-to entree. I love the coconut curry sauce. I do think it could be spicier so I recommend asking for added spice (medium-hot). If you handle spice well, you should be able to handle it hot. Honey Glazed Walnut Shrimp - SOOOO GOOD. I finally tried this one for the first time recently and as someone who loves shrimp and sweet things, I wish I would have tried this sooner. Eggplant Shrimp with Garlic Sauce - Comforting and the eggplant is cooked really well. The sauce is savory and well balanced. Service: The wait staff has always been super courteous and the food comes out pretty quickly after you order. For reference, I have only been to one other Burmese spot before which was a restaurant up in SF, so perhaps my comparison is unfair. Tea leaf salad (3/5): this was a pretty average salad, not too flavorful in my opinion. I liked the different textures in the salad. Garlic noodles with chicken (2.5/5): I really wanted to like this dish, but it also lacked flavor. We barely touched this dish, and I ended up taking it home and adding salt and chili oil which helped a lot. Burma crispy chicken (4/5): I surprisingly liked this dish! The chicken was crispy and the sauce had a slight sweetness, reminiscent of a fancier orange chicken from Panda Express. Ah, this is tough. I'm half Burmese, and grew up with some really good home cooks within my extended family. Haven't found any place in South Bay that can top their cooking, but this place is not bad, and it is near my house. If rating just for the food, I'd give this restaurant 3 stars. I'm adding a star simply for being a Burmese restaurant in the area (huge plus in my book!), as it can be quite hard to find Burmese food anywhere! My husband and I ordered their samosa, palata with dip, nan gyi thoke (chicken curry noodle), garlic noodles, and fish chowder noodle soup (mohinga). Mohinga is a personal favorite dish of mine, and it wasn't too bad here. I also thought the samosa and palata were pretty good. I likely wouldn't order the garlic noodles or the nan gyi thoke again. Ambience feels a bit like the ambience you'd find at a Thai restaurant -- good for going out for a casual date night, or out with coworkers. Staff is attentive, but not necessarily the most polished. Overall, I would highly recommend this for anyone who either isn't Burmese or hasn't had too much Burmese food. Nice, modern restaurant with quick service. The interior felt warm and organized. I was seated immediately and provided water before I even sat down on a Friday evening. However, my water reached the bottom twice before it was refillled. The menu is extensive! The tea salad was refreshing and had some interesting crunchy kung beans in the mix. The basil lemongrass amassing was very flavorful and had a nice kick to it (not overwhelming, but may be too much for the faint hearted). It was breaded, which I didn't expect. Food leans a little on the salty side, but not overly salty. Paying was easy as they bring the card machine to the table. The bill can easily be split. There is indoor and outdoor seating. I live in this area for almost 3 years and never noticed this place. The food was absolutely amazing. We had the coconut noodle soup, their special house noodles, and the black pepper beef. All were amazing. The coconut noodle soup was similar to other Burmese places. The house special noodles with shrimps was basically pad Thai lol but it still tasted great. They did add a lot of shrimp so a plus! The black pepper beef was the star of the meal! It was sweet and salty. A perfect combination. The house hot sauce mixed with the black pepper beef was perfection! The service was great. They came check on us often and cleared each plate as we finished them. Their food is okay. Their service is bad. I came to this restaurant with my boyfriend in year 2024 on a week night on a Friday. It was packed and they have a waiting list. When they called us and got seated down, this Asian Male waiter/server took me and my bf on a small two person table and gave us menus around 6:30pm. Then the Asian waiter said he will be right back because he had to get two more customers a table. He did and it was these 2 Caucasian customers around their 50's. We are Asian in the ages of 40's. Then we waited to get our order taken for 45 minutes. This same Asian Male Server took the orders of the 2 Caucasian Customers in 10 minutes ever aince they got seated while ignoring me and my boyfriend who has been waiting for him for 30 minutes to get our order taken. Worse of all, he got the 2 Caucasian customers their food right away and he was just ignoring us while we wait for him to take our order. So 1 hour later, I could not take it anymore waiting for too long, I called the waiter and was pissed off. My boyfriend too. We did not yell at him but I asked "Why did those 2 customers who got seated later than us got their order of food first and why did he forget about us waiting their first that we have to wait for 1 hour just to get our order taken and we have to freaking call him?". This Asian Male server said" Sorry for the wait, what is your order? ". We ordered and we got our food in 30 minutes. The food is not that great. We have a bad experience here. We had better Burmese food than here. The one in Fremont called Burma Bay is really good, with great friendly fast service of the servers and are not descriminating. Burma Bay's food in Fremont are 100 times better tasting than Burma Choice. Do not go to this Burma Choice if you are Asian since they descriminate and will serve you last. First visit so Burma Choice, interior is very modern, clean and tasteful. Nice atmosphere. Service very friendly and super fast delivery. My wife and I were not very hungry and ordered two dishes which were plenty, even took home an additional meal worth of food. We had the Garlic Noodles with Chicken which we both found a bit uninspired. However, our second dish was the Vegetable Kebat which we found full of character and very enjoyable. Our first time trying Burmese food. A close friend who is Burmese had recommended it and all the great reviews just reinforced it. The restaurant was packed. There was a wait for two when we arrived, but we were greeted quickly and sat outside on a bench to wait for our table. It wasn't long of a wait and allowed us to game plan our choices by reviewing the takeout menu. Once inside we were sat at a two top on the end furthest from the door. There's not much space between all of the tables so we sat pretty close to another couple who were seated right after us. We ordered the sesame chicken with jasmine rice, garlic noodles and eggplant shrimp. According to our friend (mentioned above) we ate Chinese food instead of Burmese and should have gone for the tea leaf salad, coconut noodle soup, or rainbow salad. The portions were a great size. We finished everything but the garlic noodles which weren't exactly what we were used to, but still good. We took the rest home. I was a little bummed when the server filled up the waters of the table inches from us but missed that ours were empty, but someone else came by within 5 mins to fill us up without us having to ask. Stopped by Burma Choice on the way to a show and boy are we glad we decided to try this place. Let's get into it.. Ambiance - The interior of this restaurant is decent sized and nicely decorated in the dining area. Burma Choice is suitable for couples or large groups. We were sat within 10 minutes for a table of two while a party of 14 were also being seated with a similar wait. Service - The service at Burma Choice was quite good. They came quickly to take our order, the food was delivered quickly (I was shocked at how quickly our dinner came), and the wait staff were good about refilling water glasses as well. Overall, no complaints at all when it comes to the service. Food - The food was great! My wife had the fiery chicken (had a small kick) and I got the eggplant shrimp w/ garlic sauce. Both entrees had a generous helping of food. My plate came with 6 or 7 good-sized shrimp and what felt like an entire eggplant diced up into my dish. The sauce was good and both the eggplant and the shrimp were quite flavorful. I tried a small bite of the fiery chicken and it was just as good. 5 stars for the entrees we had. From top to bottom, this was a great introduction to Burmese cuisine and we're very glad we tried this place out. Came in for dinner with friends and got seated at 530pm which was nice as it wasn't that busy, but as the evening progressed, it got super busy. Service was friendly and very informative as we wanted to know some of the best items to have. We started with the salt and pepper calamari which was super good and so was the chili dipping sauce. One reason I love the bay area is because of so many incredible Asian cuisines that are offered here. One of my favorite dishes from the Burmese culture is the fabulous tea leaf salad. I usually go to Burma Ruby in Palo Alto but because I was staying in the lower bay I was so thankful that my friends and I were able to try Burma Choice. All the dishes we tried were scrumptious and very flavorful with those fantastic Burmese spices that I definitely do not regularly get enough of in my life. On this particular trip, we tried an appetizer of the fried calamari, the absolutely necessary tea leaf salad, and for the main course, the Burmese lamb curry with two sides of rice. The fried calamari came with this really nice sweet-and-sour sauce that had a tangy twist that went very well with the calamari. The tea leaf salad is something that I think more people in the world unfortunately have not experienced, which is a huge crime, considering it is very healthy and very pleasurable to the taste buds. The lamb curry was boneless and had such a hearty sauce that made me want to practically drink the bowl. Well, it is a little on the pricey side, I would 100% recommend this Burmese establishment, as not only is the food spectacular, but the restaurant itself appears very organized, clean, and well-maintained. We stopped by after our 8 mile run for some replenishment on a Saturday morning and came by right when they opened. Service was quick and they seated us, took our order and there was not much of a wait as our three dishes were quickly distributed to us. We ordered the Nan Gyi Dok, eggplant and tea leaf salad. The tea leaf salad was crunchy and fresh with a great ratio with each ingredient. I am also content they did not include nuts that feel they are going to crack my molars haha. The eggplant was packed of flavor and a bit of a kick and the nan gyi dok was the main disappointment. The nan gyi dok was 90% noodles and barely had any other ingredients that make nan gyi dok what it is! I would have liked to have more sauces, cilantro, onion, chicken, etc. Overall, delicious food and would like more than just noodles in the nan gyi dok. read more

We want to give a second chance, we went with our friends. Service was quick. We had ordered tea leaf salad, Palata with Veg curry Samosa soup, and Burma house noodle. I've never had Burmese food but to me it's a peanutty fusion between Chinese and Thai food. This place was so good and the food was quick and fresh! We came for an early weeknight dinner and this place was already lively and packed. Tea salad- very crunchy and fresh. Each bite had a different texture and taste. Very yummy! Chili beef- good portion with good flavor. Tasted very good with white steamed rice Burma choice noodles- my favorite of the meal! Tangy and so flavorful! I would compare this dish to a pad Thai but with a more umami and thicker sauce. Loved how it was paired with cabbage too! Would come here again! My only complaints was our waiter seemed to wander around and miss us a lot. We also noticed that when asking to tip they only gave us the option for 18, 20, and 25%. Not that we aren't good tippers- it can just rub you the wrong way when the option is taken from us. read more

Get the palata and the coconut chicken curry! It's so flavorful! If you've never had Burmese food before, some would describe it as a fusion of Thai, Indian, and Chinese with its own unique flavors. When this restaurant had first opened, I was very excited to have Tea Leaf Salad so near and accessible. The service was spot on, I felt I was dining in a fancy restaurant. The waiter had introduced each dish we had ordered and explained the ingredients. Over time, the service felt short, inattentive, and slow. I had started to do take-out only. Their dishes have been pretty solid, I often order from here for work meetings. Tonight I came with a few friends from out of town. The service has gotten a little better from what I remembered. It wasn't as hard to flag down a wait staff. The food was still great. We all came hungry and too impatient to take pictures of the food. Will do next time. read more
