After moving to the Bay Area, I honestly felt like almost everything I'd tried was pretty mediocre, so I came in with very low expectations. Duan's Kitchen completely blew me away. The meat sauce was incredibly authentic and tasted just like the Taiwanese flavors I grew up with. It instantly reminded me of my childhood!!! rich, comforting, and absolutely oozing with flavor. Every bite felt homemade. I would 100% come back. In fact, I'm already craving it, and I literally just finished eating. I might even come back tomorrow. If you're looking for authentic Taiwanese comfort food, this place is definitely worth a visit. I haven't tried the beef noodle yet but that's on my list next!! read more

Came here for lunch before catching a movie on Friday around noon. They're at the corner of the food court, right next to Ruby Thai, and they weren't busy at all. Order was placed using the self-service kiosk. Two staff were doing the cooking. I had the Pork Meat Sauce Bento, which was a pretty good deal at $9.99. I was presently surprised that the Shanghai bok choy was cooked to order. (It took about 10 minutes to get my order.) The spring roll was warm and not oily. The meat sauce was pretty authentic. I liked that it's on the less salty side, and they provided you with lots of sauces so you could adjust the saltiness/spiciness level yourself. While I wished there's more meat sauce, the meat to rice ratio was decent. The pickles were pretty standard. I didn't care for the bland mantou with condensed milk, though. I wished they provided the option to substitute the buns with more veggies and an option to have less rice, as I was trying to eat less carb. Not a bad choice for a quick meal. read more

I'm honestly surprised this place has such good reviews. I've been here a few times in the past and remember the food was decent, but we went back again today when we were at Oakridge and did not have a good time! The spicy wontons were decent and juicy, but they were extremely spicy so I couldn't eat much of it. Yes, I know spicy is in the name lol, but it was much spicer than I expect from a traditional Taiwanese spicy wonton dish. Popcorn chicken was overcooked and very bland. The beef brisket DRY noodle was perhaps taken too literally because the beef was the driest and most flavorless beef I've ever had in a Taiwanese dish. Like, I could not eat more than a few bites because it tasted like chewy sandpaper. The noodles were pretty good though, mixed into the sauce. It was a very disappointing lunch but based off the many good reviews, maybe it was an off day. We are big fans of the Oakridge mall food court. I have tried almost all the food stalls at the food court except for a few. Now I can cross off Duan's Kitchen off the list. We arrived for a Saturday early dinner at Duan's Kitchen. The food stall is located at the Oakridge mall in San Jose. Parking is easy and accessible in the large parking lot surrounding the mall. We ordered shrimp fried rice, popcorn chicken, shrimp dumplings and shrimp siu mai. Everything is delicious and tasted like they came from an authentic dim sum restaurant. My favorite was the popcorn chicken which was crispy and tender. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Duan's Kitchen. The staff was friendly and helpful. We don't have to just go to a dim sum restaurant to have some legit dim sum food. We can just go to the mall and straight to the food court at Oakridge for some tasty dim sum. Had a good time trying out this place with my mom and sister on a Wednesday evening around 6:30 pm. Not busy whatsoever that there wasn't anyone lingering around waiting for food, so I easily placed my dine in order. They have a variety of soups, bento boxes, and rice based dishes from pork, beef, or chicken. They have a bright lit signs that attract the eyes of shoppers to become diners. It took about 10 minutes for the food, so I was happy with the speed of service. We ordered a bento box, beef soup, and pork fried rice. I was very impressed by the bento box since it was only $10 but had a great variety of kimchi, bok choy, one eggroll, kimchi, 2 fried buns, and meat and rice. The kimchi was refreshing and not too strong. The fried buns were a bit hard but had great flavor from the condensed milk coating. The eggrolls weren't special, reminded me of Panda Express. The whole mall is very new & we really like the original location of DCZ in Cupertino, the ordering process was super fast they had a tablet with the photos of items. We did like that there was the beef noodle soup (which honestly is probably their best dish which NO other food appt and we ended up ordering the pork chop fried rice (get this it's freshly prepared!!) compared to panda tbh this is freshly cooked and panda is just sitting under a heatlamp. First time here at Duan's Kitchen in Oakridge Mall, and unfortunately it was not a great experience. I ordered the brisket noodle, and while the presentation looked decent, the taste was very disappointing. The broth lacked depth and flavor and tasted very bland, almost like it was missing seasoning or spices. A good noodle soup should be rich and comforting, but this one fell flat. The brisket itself was tender, but it didn't have much flavor either, which made the dish feel unfinished. Even adding condiments didn't help much. The noodles were okay, but without a flavorful broth, the whole meal felt underwhelming. For Chinese food, I was really expecting bold, savory flavors, and that just wasn't the case here. Considering the location inside Oakridge Mall and the price point, I expected a lot more quality and flavor. The noodles were perfectly cooked, the beef was tender, the bok choy had a nice crunch and the broth was comforting and satisfying. I slurped it down to the last drop. Is it worth it? I'd say yes considering it's inside a mall. It's convenient, fast and satisfying.
