There's always the question of which is better. Burma SuperStar, or Mandalay. I enjoyed both immensely, but I think I prefer Mandalay a little bit better, but not by much! We started with the Lettuce Cups, which I enjoyed very much. I love water chestnuts, and you can really taste them in this dish. Now that I look at the menu, I might have wanted to try the Egg Rolls, but for some reason, I passed them by. Not next time! For our entrees, we had Beef Kebat, which had onions, mint, basil and green chile but I would have liked it to be spicier, but it was still good. We also had the Garlic Noodles with Pork. They were very tasty, but I think I prefer the Garlic Noodles from Sunflower better. I know they are different types of cuisine, but that's my preference. We also had the coconut rice, but the coconut was more pronounced at Mandalay. Lastly, we had the Platha, which is layered, fried bread, maybe like phyllo? But what do I know, I'm no baker! It would have been better served with something ... ala Blaada! All in all, it was very good, and I had lots of leftovers to go with my dessert pizza! See below. If I were to eat at Burma SuperStar every single day... I juuuust might be able to pull of being a vegetarian! I don't know if I've ever had such tasty, meat-free food! It's always questionable when dining with my mom (aka "The Vegan"... Scott Pilgrim reference... Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Haha) where and what we'll eat. Not to mention, it's always questionable whether it will be good or not. Thanks to my handy dandy iPhone 4 and it's oh-so-useful apps, Yelp told me that there was a 4 star restaurant right next door to us! After getting our nails done, we walked two doors down and sat down at a window table in a very cool setting. So many choices on the menu! The best part is that you can order almost anything you want, and just substitute out the meat for tofu!! Awesome!! With our unlimited choices we went with Vegetarian Samusas for an appetizer, Spicy Tofu Noodles and Burmese Veggies for entrees and a Ginger Lemon Drop cocktail for dessert. Everything was delicious! I aint no Mary Sunshine. Bagan is a small establishment. It was a crowded Saturday night. There was a good chance we would wind up SOL. Luckily I was with Pollyanna and the Yelp Machine. Solids we were done: The host remembered me walking in about twenty minutes before and put us atop the queue... sweeeet. Our magic water glasses never emptied. The leftovers were taken away to be boxed for our departure. Claaassy. Fooooduh: Tea Leaf Salad - deceptively simple mixture of vegetables and dried goods that provided contrast in texture and intense taste; Chicken w basil - crisp snow peas, chilis and chicken; Duck noodles - subtle garlic infusion w a spicy sweet sauce on the side; Coconut rice - fluffy, moist with a subtle hint of sweet coconut flavoring and toasted shavings on top. Oh, and a lychee julep `a soju, nicely mottled. Tz'all good. Given that Polly and the Yelp Machine have an ethnically incongruous aversion to heat, the food was fresh and spicy enough to excite my taste buds without sending them outside to run the fire hydrant on their tongues. Best restaurant in Alameda when you consider price and quality. Out of town friends and family (even in town) are always impressed. The tea leaf salad was a revelation. House special beer made by local brewer Ale Industries is light and refreshing and a great pairing for their dishes. The dishes are flavorful but not overly spicy, so don't be afraid to venture deep into the menu to try new things. It's a small space, so get there early to get a table. Or wait next store at Tucker's, Alameda's famous ice cream stand and eat desert first! read more

The first word that comes to mind is EHHHHHH... Let's be honest, this place is nothing special. I came here when it first opened back a few years ago and I was just super unimpressed. Nothing jumped out at me and made me want to come back here. Fast forward to 2010... I'm going to say that the food was better this time, but nothing that, again, made me think i have to come back here to get that. The tea leaves salad was good. Everything was good, just not memorable. I will say that the biggest turn off for me was their rice. Maybe because I'm Chinese and rice is my staple but mushy rice is not ok. No one else seemed to mind but I had a really big problem with the consistency of the rice. How can you serve rice that is mushy? ICK!! As I had said, I really felt this place way just ehhhhhh... i barely remember the decor. i barely remember the service... and i just barely remember their food. I must admit...the only Burmese food i've had is when i was in Burma last spring. The food was absolutely amazing!! We went w/ my bro & his gf (whom i might say are quite picky) and they really enjoyed it as well! Very nice ambiance i must say...as i was expecting more of an low-key asian restaurant type of environment. For appetizers, we started off with the infamous "TEA LEAF SALAD" which was incredibly DELICIOUS!! sounds weird...but it was sooooo good. Great presentation too, btw. They have the ingredients (fried garlic, peanuts, sunflower seeds, tomato, romaine, dried shrimp) arranged separately on the plate, and the waiter gives you a run down of the items on the plate for you, and then tosses it for you! Next, we had the "RAINBOW SALAD" which includes 22 different ingredients, mixed again at tableside, which was also very good. For entrees, we ordered family style: 2 servings of COCONUT rice ( the taste of coconut is not overbearing), an order of garlic noodles (not as great as crustaceans, but it worked). We also had the WALNUT SHRIMP & SESAME CHICKEN, along with the BURMESE CHICKEN CASSAROLE (with cardamom, cinnamon, braised chicken & shrimp baked with berryani rice) which resembled indian cuisine. And if that wasn't enough, the waiter brought out another dish on the house for us to try, the BAGAN VEGETARIAN NOODLES, which was also good, although we were totally stuffed by this time. I love you, Burma Superstar. I really do. I never have a bad experience here no matter which location I visit. The service is always stellar. The food, the drinks...can't say enough about either. This location is much more spacious than the SF location. I'm so happy I don't have to cross the bridge when I'm having serious Burmese cravings. Burma Superstar is a trendy little restaurant that has good service and decently priced food. I wasn't blown away by anything I ate, but it was nice to try something that you don't typically get in the Bay Area. Food: I'd give it about 3.5 stars. Some dishes are a hit or miss, and unfortunately I was very disappointed with the garlic noodles. There was NO garlic flavor! None whatsoever.They seem to count crushing up bits of fried garlic over noodles as "garlic noodles". The noodles weren't bad themselves but they certainly were NOT garlic noodles, and more like a blander version of Pad Thai. The mango chicken was pretty decent, I'm not a big fan of sweet sauce in my meat but the mango wasn't too over powering. The chili lamb was my favorite out of the bunch, it was slightly like Mongolian Beef but had a really good spice to it. Ambiance: Even though the outside is pearly white, the interior is a different story! It's dark and quite loud inside, but it's definitely a part of the experience. It's a fun place to go with friends or on a date. Service: The waiters were very friendly and I like the fact that they will bag your leftovers for you. Price: The lunch specials come with soup or salad, rice, and an entree, and they're around $12-14, which is a very good deal for all of the food you get. Burma Superstar is one of those hidden restaurants nobody really knows about because it's on the crowded Park Street in Alameda and its restaurant sign can probably be read by only a handful of people who actually are paying attention to each and every storefront. With that said, don't pass up on this place if you get a chance to check it out. I've never had Burmese food until after coming here and I'm rather impressed! It's not what you expect when you think of Asian cuisine (I was expecting it to be similar to Thai food). I enjoy the salads here (Rainbow Salad especially) and any of the chicken and curried dishes. Their Garlic Noodles are good here too. But whatever you order, make sure to order a side of COCONUT RICE. I'm not a fan of coconut at all, but their coconut rice is so fragrant and tastes so heavenly with any dish. Definitely recommend to order a salad (to split) and a main dish that will go well with rice. I recently came here over spring break for dinner and the service was impeccable and food was great as always. Really do love this place. Ordered a few drinks and were satisfied with them, the Burma Cooler (Breezer? Forgot what it's called) is really, really good. I'd recommend that over any of the other drinks. Come with a small group, 4 I say would be the max since it's a small restaurant. Dimly lit and nothing has changed over the past couple of years. Still the same great food and ambiance. read more

I loved their food and their service and I've been their loyal tea leaf salad eater since the mid 90's while residing in Alameda. That's why its so hard for me to write this review. But I feel its necessary for yelpers to know its not healthy to eat their tea leaf salad too often. I stop eating their tea leaf salad since my visit to Singapore in 2006. A friend of mine from Singapore advised against eating it; saying it causes Cancer because of a certain dye they used to ferment the leaves. A few years later, both Singapore and Malaysia banned the import of fermented tea leaves from Burmese. Burma SuperStar's version of tea leaf salad is very good and its worth a try if you've never had it before. But please eat in moderation, as with anything that taste this good. read more

I'm a huge fan of Burma Superstar - this location is a tiny big smaller than the one on Telegraph, but it seems like there's less competition with crowds of folks in their 20s all deeply engaged with their mobile devices here. Many vegan options - and they are happy to accommodate and remove any non-vegan items from most dishes. My favorites are the dry wok string beans, pea shoots, sesame tofu, and the tea leaf salad (sans fishy bits). They will even make a thai tea with coconut milk if they aren't slammed -- and they always have excellent beers to go with the food. Downtown Alameda is super cute - I always seem to manage parking - and haven't had to wait here ever. read more

To all the fans of the tea leaf salad at Burma SuperStar, go try it at Mandalay in San Francisco or Nan Yang in Oakland to see how it is supposed to look/taste. The version at Burma SuperStar, while admittedly still tasty, is "translated" for the American palate by adding a pile of lettuce and cutting back on the spice. I don't want my food translated - if I go out for Burmese food, I want Burmese food, not an Americanized watered-down version of Burmese food. Some other things worth mentioning: - Props for good heat level on the spicy dipping sauce for the samusas, but points off for the stiff prefab wonton dough used for the samusas. -Garlic noodles with pork, typically one of my favorites at Burmese restaurants, was chewy and a bit bland, but not bad. - I'm always happy when I see a place carrying Navarro grape juices, which make me drool just thinking about their luscious grapey grapiness, but it says something when my favorite thing in the meal wasn't even made by the restaurant. - Service is super-rookie. I don't want to jump all over them because a lot of the servers are clearly green, but be sure to be in a patient mood before you come to Burma SuperStar. Overall: Fine, generally tasty but nothing amazing - everything is almost right but missing some little something to make it special. I'd go back if someone else was keen on eating there, but otherwise I'll be heading elsewhere to satisfy my Burmese cravings. read more

We hit up Bagan last Saturday after hearing from a friend that the peeps from Burma Superstar had taken over so we had to check it out and I'm so glad we did. Sigh. I was so excited for this restaurant since I've heard its the BURMA SUPERSTAR of the East Bay with NO wait, and so me and the boy skipped on over to celebrate a new promotion. Anticipating the yummy meal I was about to have with glee, I was even more excited to see BURMA SUPERSTAR on the door instead of Bagan. As a matter of fact, I was so excited we missed the restaurant TWICE before we realized that we had passed it! :) Still, we walked in to a nicely decorated but freaking TINY TINY little restaurant. I mean seriously I had to SQUEEEZE through the little cracks to get to my table. And, for someone with a huge ass, that is NOT an easy feat. Plus the stupid people at the table next to us had a corner of their dish STICKING out and in order not to send it crashing to the floor I had a hard time getting in and out. UGH. Okay, but I can deal with that. After all, the Burma Superstar in SF is TINY as hell too, right? So, we order: 1) Patha - No, no, no, no, no. NO! No! This was an oily mess of bad "1000 layer" Bread. It should be soft, fluffly and the layers should be visible, and not heavy. I love carbs, and tried to stomache half, and then left it sitting alone on the plate, alone in its oily mess. ZERO stars for this. 2) Lychee Martini - This was good, but it tasted like fruit juice. There was no balance between alcohol and the mixers; I totally get the fact that a lot of places don't overload on the alcohol, but come on, it was like 9$ give me something that tastes like alcohol. 3) Pumpkin and Pork Curry - This was so bad. It was borderline inedible. I had the same dish at Burma Superstar in SF and it was sooooo good. In this case, the pumpkin skin was UNPEELED, hard, and just nasty. The "curry" was watery and flavorless. 4) Tea Leaf Salad - This forever ruins my image of Tea Leaf Salad. It wasn't unbearable like the Pumpkin dish, but still the flavors of certain ingredients were SO overpowering that it took away the subtle flavors of the salad. I was VERY VERY disappointed in this dish. Probably the straw that broke the camels back, since I loved this when I went to the SF location. 5) Nan Pia Dok - coconut curry flat noodles, if I remember correctly. I wasn't a big fan of this either. The curry actually tasted like PARMESAN cheese. At least the texture - and boy, was it pretty damn G-R-O-S-S. The flavor was alright though, but.... really... Sorry Bagan/East Bay Burma Superstar, I really tried to to like you like I like - no, LOVE the SF version. Its just that neither service, atmosphere, or - most importantly - the food was there. And, I am, afterall, a foodmonster. Sorry, but 2 stars. I would not put my money on this place, even if it is "called" Burma Superstar. So sad, too bad! :( read more

Burma Superstar was as good as my friend said it would be. Warning: Its really hard to find if you don't already know where it is. It has a hella small ass sign, so make sure you have the address. Heres a rundown of what we got: Samosas-Excellent,not greasy, nice light outer fried shell Tea Leaf Salad-Freaking amazing. I don't usually order salad when I eat out, as not to waste stomach space, but the flavors and textures were so intense, its a must try. I'd come back for my own order of salad. Sesame chicken-This was ok, not really a knock your socks off plate..I think we ordered out of context. but as my fellow foodie said, its like mochiko chicken..yum. 1000 layer bread-Also just alright for fried bread, I prefer roti I've had at other places. Its a little too dense, and almost undercooked in the middle. Don't get me wrong, If its bread that's fried, I'm still eating it. cinnamon rice-Awesome. So different than any other kind of flavored rice I've had. The service was ok. Not bad, not excellent. I am a vegetarian and there were plenty of options for me. For starter we ordered the tea leaf and rainbow salad. They both had a colorful presentation and were good, but I liked the rainbow salad better--I though it was more flavorful and liked the noodles in it. We also ordered the samosa soup which I thought was tasty and of course the garlic noodles because I am an avid garlic lover---they were yummy too! We also had the vegetable curry which wasn't too spicy so people who don't like spicy would enjoy this, it too was delic. I highly recommend trying the coconut juice which is especially fun for kids because it comes straight from the source. The ginger lemonade was very refreshing and had a kick, but OMG the coconut and mango ice cream was one of the best I have had so don't pass it up. read more

I really wanted to give this place a good review. Maybe we just ordered wrong, I don't know. But the food here was average. I guess all the Yelpers hyped it up too much that my expectations could not be met. For an appetizer we ordered the Samusa... which was no different than an Indian Samosa (is it supposed to be spelled differently?) except smaller. Not bad. The red dipping sauce was a sweeter version Sriracha sauce. I ordered the Fiery Beef with tofu and rice. Was not fiery, but very salty. The beef was way too rubbery as well. I was kind of disappointed in this dish. The BF ordered the Nan Gyi Dok (Coconut chicken rice noodle curry) which had a very nice presentation, and lots of goodies on the side to mix in (boiled egg, cilantro, fried onions, crispy wonton noodle stuff?, etc). This dish was better than the Fiery Beef, but it lacked a certain amount of kick I was expecting from a curry dish. It was all pretty bland. The noodles were definitely over cooked as well. Food service was slow although it didn't seem too busy on a 2pm Thursday lunch. The servers were quick in refilling our waters though. My biggest disappointment was when I found a long piece of hair in the Fiery Beef that was most definitely not mine. Unfortunately, my discovery came too late, as I had already taken a mouthful of the food. Definitely the best place to eat. I've been several times and it's the most delicious Burmese food! The lamb kabat is the best and most tender lamb! The spicy chicken balls are to die for and make sure to get the coconut rice in multiple orders! I've recommended several people to go here and they have had the same experience. We walked the MLK Shoreline and worked up an appetite. Since my friend was willing to try it and Burma Superstar has been on my must try list for ages, we decided to stop by for lunch. The gods must have been smiling down on us. We only circled the block once before we scored a parking spot in the lot behind the restaurant. I expected a wait but a table became available as we walked in. Tiny place. Our table was in the hallway right by the bar and the kitchen pass through. We enjoyed watching dishes come out as we waited for our own meal. Cozy atmosphere. High ceilings. Tall windows let in lots of light. Enjoyed both but loved the rainbow salad more than the tea leaf salad. The tea leaf is an acquired taste. Imagine drinking just poured tea at a Chinese restaurant where they don't filter out the leaves vs. a British tea. You ingest some leaves by mistake because you are too impatient to let the loose tea leaves settle before chugging the whole cup. The salad tastes something like that. The rainbow salad seemed to include everything but the kitchen sink. Crunchy, sour, sweet, salty, refreshing. Mmmm ... Mmmm good. We were feeling really healthy after the walk and 2 salads for lunch. I've never had any Burmese dishes before until my first visit to Burma Superstar. I guess the dishes my party and I ordered were pretty "superb." So from the chalkboard display on the wall, I learned that Burma is located in the border of "China, Laos, Thailand, Bagladesh, Malaysia." So their dishes are a little bit of everything- Fusion style. Pretty darn cool. Okay, I read and heard that their "Tea Leaf Salad" is a must! I ordered it and I thought it was only a-okay. I do like all the peanuts and everything in there but the dressing wasn't what I expected to be though. Maybe it needs more dressing. The "Platha Dip" was good. I like this appetizer. Multi-layered bread with their coconut curry dipping sauce. Delicious! The "Pork Curry" was amazing! I enjoyed my entree. I ordered their "coconut rice" with it and the "coconut rice" was AWESOME. It smells like coconut and tastes like coconut rice. HAHA. Anyway, "coconut rice" is a MUST and Mandatory. So darn good. Although the "coconut rice" is a bit pricey, you really cannot go wrong with your dishes. The "Garlic Noodle" tastes like garlic with egg noodles, but I'm pretty sure it goes well with the soup - which my friend ordered. Seems like it's a type of curry soup. I will definitely return back to Burma Superstar. I loved their decor, it's very simple and comfortable. The wait might be a bit long so prepare yourself with a light jacket while waiting outside during dinner time. You can also walk down the street for some early desserts at Bambu. Parking is a bit difficult here, if you're lucky, you may find street parking.. if not, I guess you just have to circle around the area. read more

I love this place! We came here for dinner during the week, knowing that this smallish little place gets crowded on the weekends. Our 5pm arrival was just in time to eat the dinner crowds. We got a nice table in the back of the main room. I still can't believe how teeny-tiny this restaurant is! After checking out the menu, we decided to order a few dishes and share them family style. Okay- if you've been to Burma Superstar, you already know that getting the fermented tea leaf salad is a must! To that, we tried to round out the offerings by getting the fried honey glazed tofu cubes, the firey wok seared beef, the curried lamb, the deep fried crispy chicken nuggets, and a honey glazed walnut prawn dish. Of the items we chose, the hit had to be the firey beef. Tender, succulent pieces of beef, small slices of pressed tofu, and veggies made the dish sing on your mouth. The tofu cubes were addictive - very hard to eat just one. Love the way they stayed crisp - and the honey sauce? So divine! Misses were the flavorless lamb curry and the honey glazed prawns. Yes, I knew it was a mistake to order a Chinese dish at a Burmese place. It didn't compare to the Chinese version at all. The lamb dish was a bit overcooked - no real taste or flavor to the lamb - just a newspaper-y tough texture that wasn't very good, The curry was lacking as well - I could not detect any curry spices at all. When eating there, you have to try the Burmese rice - rich with spices and raisins. It went well with all of the dishes, and is worth trying out. I'm giving it 4 outta 5 stars - I've been a fan of BS for years now, and I don't really see a reason to stop being one. read more

I ordered the yellow bean tofu as an appetizer and the consistency was grainy and the sauce was way too salty and tasted processed. Then I ordered the Burmese style beer which was good as always. I've had Postmates deliver Burma Superstar from the SF location, but for the first time got to eat at the restaurant in the Alameda location. The food as usual was superb! They definitely have some of the best burmese food in this Bay Area. We got the rainbow salad (a must try!), the shrimp curry (looks bland but the flavors are on point and another must try), and the mint chicken (this was okay -- good but there are better things on the menu). If you're looking for burmese food -- this is a must do! Just don't try and eat at the SF location, the wait can be up to 3 hours long. In the Alameda location you can get a table in less than one hour. read more

The Good: * Unlike anything I have ever eaten, the Tea Leaf Salad was delicious and aesthetically pleasing. The combination of flavors were creative and unusual and we loved it! * The Tofu Vegetable Kabat comprised of squash, tomatoes and pepper, then accented by tiny poufs of tofu was delightful. * The Coconut Rice was so tasty my two year old felt the need to shout at us because we couldn't feed it to him fast enough. In all fairness our server warned us that this was an "authentically fishy" tasting dish and if we did not LOVE Catfish we should try the Shrimp version instead. Given that I love fish, especially Catfish I thought it would be okay. She failed to mention that the fish is served with the bones. Also, the accenting Curry had a thick gloppy-ness that when combined with the fishy-ness of the bone in Catfish=gross. * Again, in all fairness I am not a fan of deep fried incredibly oily food so the Platha is probably not something I would ever like. It was just so so so oily, we each tasted a piece and couldn't continue because of its overly greasy texture. Yelp, you've let me down. How could you? I trusted you. I came with such high expectations, only to leave with a bad taste in my mouth. Literally. I don't understand what the hype is about their Tea Leaf Salad. Seriously. Yes, it was on the Food network. Yes, the tea leaves are from Burma. Yes, the presentation is pretty. But none of that matters if the taste is bad. I guess I fell into the trap of ordering this dish because I wanted to see if it really was as amazing as everyone makes it seem, but after that first bite, I realized it was all just a pretentious act. This is going to sound mean, but you know that smell when you first walk into a petting zoo at one of those county fairs? Like, a mixture of dried hay, sweaty animals, and poop? That's exactly what the Tea Leaf Salad tasted like. Now excuse me if I don't know what fine dining is, with all these magical tea leaves direct from Burma, but I'd never order that dish again. The other three dishes that I had that night were passable though. The garlic noodles with duck tasted exactly how it was described. Like garlic and duck. That's it. I don't know if I should praise them or not. The winning dish was the Mango Chicken, which was cooked perfectly. The chicken was very tender and not dry at all, and the mango was a perfect companion to it. The last dish I got was the Coconut Rice, which I was a little apprehensive about ordering since I don't even like coconut. But, it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. For all my fellow Filipinos out there, the coconut rice tasted very similar to biko. I felt like I should have been having the rice for dessert, not along with my main courses. Service was a little awkward, especially around the time when it came to mix up our Tea Leaf Salad. They squeeze a lemon into the salad and then proceed to toss it for you. Simple process right? Not for our waitress. She took the lemon and squeezed it, and completely missed the salad. Lemon juice all over the table. She then tossed the salad with so much energy that it started spilling over the sides. My girlfriend always likes to tease me for being the messy one at dinner, but for once, I wasn't the messiest. I really do want to give this place another chance, but I don't know if I'll be able to bring myself to spend my money here again. My friend recommended this place and now i love it!!! 3 of us each got different foods and they were all good. ( beef, chicken and soup ) And all the food looked very presentable! Service was pretty good but nothing too spectacular, i had to ask for things couple times from our server but i don't care because the food was delicious! I think it was always a popular restaurant but I've just recently heard of it. And I'm glad i did! It seems like reading from other peoples reviews, sf's location is super busy. The location in alameda didn't seem as bad so go there. Cant wait to go back! read more

I love love love this restaurant. I think the food here is really delicious. I'm not the most adventurous eater but I always feel a little more exotic after eating here. I brought a foodie friend here the other night. We tried to go to the Oakland one but the line was out the door! So I headed over to the Alameda one where we were sat right away. The service was awesome. Our server 'Kenny' was really nice! The food came out very fast. The girl who brought out out tea leaf salad was also great! I always love going out to eat with this friend because she's always down to order a ton of food! This time was no different. We ordered: Tea Leaf Salad (yum!) Calamari (just okay) Garlic Chili Shrimp (yum!) Garlic Noodles (just okay) Coconut rice (soooo good! A must order!) The last time I came here I ordered the Pumpkin Shrimp curry. It was amazing! I was impressed that there was no line (used to the SF location and the mother of a line it has!). But we came at the end of their lunch hour, so maybe that contributed to the lack of a line. I was unimpressed with their food and service. We ordered the sumusas. The sauce had a nice kick. I ordered the tofu and green beans with brown rice. It was pretty dry. My husband had the fiery chicken dish with brown rice and he also found it pretty dry. We both thought that we should have ordered the curry instead. Also, the service was a bit slow, considering we came at the end of their lunch hour and there was only one other table. Anyways, I'm not into the whole Burma Superstar hype. If I could give 10 stars I would. So I work for uber eats off and on and this spot is the best. A customer was waiting on the uber eats driver but kept getting canceled on for over 2 hours. Not only did they re make her food and offer a free meal because of someone else's fuck up they also hooked me up with this bread and dipping sauce and OH MY GOD this is the best dipping sauce I've ever had in my life. Fantastic! We rolled in at 9pm on a Thursday and got seated right away, plus parking is a breeze on the weekdays! Thanks to fellow yelpers, we went straight for the ginger lemonade (tangy!) and the tea leaf salad (very interesting mix of ingredients -I'm going to crave this regularly now i think)! We also tried the Burmese beef curry, which is like a spicy beef stew - slow roasted beef with potatoes, yum! And the spicy crispy chicken, which was the table favorite. We also got the garlic noodles with duck, which I liked but might not order again in lieu of trying some of the other amazing sounding dishes next time. Good beers on tap and whatever you order, get a side of the coconut rice to sop up all the yummy sauces! read more

oh balls, i'm in trouble. now i have a recurring dream of adrian brody in a wet, skin tight burma superstar logo white tee, hand feeding me fleshy, juicy slices of mango as he holds the seed with his bare hand. the juice drips down his forearm slowly as he leans down and asks me if i wanted another mango lassi? i quickly reply, "oh well, yes yes... of course... yessssss." and when i finish, he pulls me towards him in one fluid motion. i'm hypnotized in his intense eyes. i am drunk with lust, flush cheeked and floating away with the same ocean breeze that combs through bending palm fronds, making an almost inaudible whistle. kinda like the sound of falling in love. with bated breath and heaving chest, he takes me in even closer and and whispers gently to me through clenched jaw, "damn girl... you have foul ass chunky peanut garlic breath". boo hoo wah. -------------------------------------------------- --------------- yeahsooooo... the famous tea salad is absolutely yummy, but don't plan on mackin' and attrackin' anyone after your meal unless you have a toothbrush, a water pic, a tongue cleaner, and some certs. i'm stoopid in love with their mango lassis. CLEARLY. their cute logo ain't too shabby, either. though i've tried both kinds, i prefer the veg samusas over the chicken. both kinds are above average. winner winner? chicken dahl dinner! second place/first loser? pork curry dish that resembled filipino adobo. not bad, but wasn't what i was expecting from the menu description. still yummy paired w/ coconut rice. slurpy, not sloppy? garlic noodles with shrimp extra credit: both the alameda and oakland locations are consistent in food, service, and timeliness. because of this, i'm posting the same review for both locations. fyi, i've added my pics to the BSS in the alameda listing. read more
